I haven't gotten turn by turn directions working, but I don't really care. The company your paying when you buy one is just providing hardware, which all seems to work fine. The software to make it work reliably is stil mostly in a developmental stage though, but it is getting better over time. I've personally seen software updates improve camera function, just over the past few months, for example. I still use my Pinephones all the time. They also make great PDAs with the keyboard. Best of all the keyboard has a built in battery twice the capicity of the one in the phone, which gives the unit a perfectly acceptable battery life.

The idea of the pinephone is great even with its flaws, but their hardware is just too bare minimum for some use cases. They must offer a decent quality hardware level and I don't see it. Not saying to put a 50 MP camera or the latest qualcomm processor, most use cases feel restrained by both software and hardware and that's why I think this first PinePhone iteration was not a great device.

I will als admit the original Pinephone is probably pretty limited by its modest hardware. Loading up Firefox does take a moment for example. As of now the Pinephone Pro is still a little behind on software development comparatively, which seems to make it less ideal as a telephone. I think the GPS problem can be fixed with sofware. Actually, I think theres a good chance I just haven't downloaded enough info from Open Street Maps yet, because it doesn't seem to know any address numbers on my phone, but I know OSM has addresses when I access it from a destop.And yeah, I totally get that its nowhere near being a daily driver replacement for the average nomie, but for someone who has a basic familiarity with Linux and is willing to make some compromises in convenience factors and reliabilty, think theyre a bargain.
>>96102016If you like the idea of eternal suffering, a PinePhone Pro is the phone for you. It is essentially a Raspberry Pi with a screen. The experience is like using KDE on a 7 inch screen. Nothing is truly optimised for it. Choppy interfaces except for in the terminal. I'd rather not use a phone at all than to use that piece of garbage. Look up some walkthroughs on YouTube and see for yourself.
