I'm so tempted bros
TrashSailfish OS exists
>>96102016you'd be SO disapointed
>>96102016how good (or bad) is battery life?
Hijacking your thread to ask about the pinetime watch, I want to replace my dying pebble 2.
>>96102038And it runs on the pine phone.
>>96102016It is shit, a friend was shilling hard for it, bought both versions and now they're just sitting collecting dust because he can't do anything with them besides testing them from time to time, GPS doesn't work properly and there are no essential apps that require an android phone (banking for example). The camera is shit, and I know some people don't care but if you're going to offer a feature at least make it usable.>>96102083Not good, you need to charge them twice a day.
>>96102016Do it. Totally worth it, even if all this>>96102202is true. Except GPS seems to work fine for me. It will reliably pull up my location in PureMaps. I haven't gotten turn by turn directions working, but I don't really care. The company your paying when you buy one is just providing hardware, which all seems to work fine. The software to make it work reliably is stil mostly in a developmental stage though, but it is getting better over time. I've personally seen software updates improve camera function, just over the past few months, for example. I still use my Pinephones all the time. They also make great PDAs with the keyboard. Best of all the keyboard has a built in battery twice the capicity of the one in the phone, which gives the unit a perfectly acceptable battery life.
>>96102782>I haven't gotten turn by turn directions working, but I don't really care. But most of the people do, even among enthusiasts. The idea of the pinephone is great even with its flaws, but their hardware is just too bare minimum for some use cases. They must offer a decent quality hardware level and I don't see it. Not saying to put a 50 MP camera or the latest qualcomm processor, most use cases feel restrained by both software and hardware and that's why I think this first PinePhone iteration was not a great device.
>>96102895Yeah, I get it. It took me a little bit of adjustment too, getting used to the idea of planning my route ahead of time instead of just going wherever Google or Waze tells me to go. I will als admit the original Pinephone is probably pretty limited by its modest hardware. Loading up Firefox does take a moment for example. As of now the Pinephone Pro is still a little behind on software development comparatively, which seems to make it less ideal as a telephone. I think the GPS problem can be fixed with sofware. Actually, I think theres a good chance I just haven't downloaded enough info from Open Street Maps yet, because it doesn't seem to know any address numbers on my phone, but I know OSM has addresses when I access it from a destop. And yeah, I totally get that its nowhere near being a daily driver replacement for the average nomie, but for someone who has a basic familiarity with Linux and is willing to make some compromises in convenience factors and reliabilty, think theyre a bargain.
>>96102016If you like the idea of eternal suffering, a PinePhone Pro is the phone for you. It is essentially a Raspberry Pi with a screen. The experience is like using KDE on a 7 inch screen. Nothing is truly optimised for it. Choppy interfaces except for in the terminal. I'd rather not use a phone at all than to use that piece of garbage. Look up some walkthroughs on YouTube and see for yourself.
>>96102016My next phone will be a Pine. The last straw for Android was that OTG cameras are broken in Android 10. Google knew it during the beta and even received a community-developed fix, yet failed to fix it. I will never purchase another Android device of any kind until this bug is fixed on every Android 10 device in the wild at Google's expense.
>>961020832-3 hours
>>96102016I got oneenjoyed the hell out of itmy kids started at grade school so I have to be more reliably available to calls than a pinephone could guarantee>>96102083bad badI made a script to walk up an auto wakeup sleep timer that increases life to about a day of light usage while getting network notifications, but absolute max 4 hours screen on time
>>96103626>a Raspberry Pi with a screenShut up and take my money, faggot.
>>96102016>$399*Kek, enjoy. I just installed postmarketOS on an old Moto G4 Play. It is one of devices which has great community support. Battery life aside, I just checked out the UI and other features.Turns out, everything is fucking trash. Phosh, unusable trash. Plasma Mobile, better than Phosh but actually crashes all the time. The most usable implementation was unironically Sxmo which is some autistic suckless shit for your Pinephone lmao.I was considering a Pinephone too but after checking the absolute state of Loonix phones, I just bought a Pixel and installed GrapheneOS on it.
>>96102016>stop it>seek helpOr have an extra phone for daily use unless you're name is Terry.
>>96102016if you want a side project go for it but if you need something reliable don't. I have one and it's just collecting dust because it's a gamble for basic things like calls going through. It might connect but then you can hear them and they can't hear you and shit like that. It's a dev toy plain and simple.
