>Panos Panay, Microsoft chief product officer and VP for devices, abruptly announced his departure today after 19 years with the company.

>Panay's most recent role at Microsoft found him in charge of both the Surface hardware line and developing Windows software, an Apple-like dual software/hardware leadership role at Microsoft that was created in 2020. Prior to that, Panay had worked as the chief of hardware at Microsoft - Redmond watchers may recall him as the very enthusiastic Surface salesman at Microsoft device events.

>The reason for the Microsoft executive's departure isn't entirely clear. According to Panay's own statement on X, he's simply "decided to turn the page and write the next chapter," adding that he is grateful for his time at Microsoft. Panay didn't add any additional context or announce additional plans.

>While it's not clear that Panay's departure is related, news broke while writing this story that Amazon is reportedly planning to hire Panay to head up its division responsible for Alexa and Echo devices.

Windows is now ran by some marketing guy, I don't think W12 will follow the trend of "Good > Bad > Good" Windows OS releases.

Maybe you didn't see the news, but MS is ready to leave the console market. They're cutting all sorts of business lines that don't sell to the government because competing is the consumer market is more difficult than skimming cream from uncompetitive government contracts and Indian immigration charities. This guy actually likes tech and wants to do something cool with it, so MS is just not the place for him.

MS-Activision FTC leak. Phil Spencer told a judge that MS was ready to leave consoles entirely if GamePass subs don't increase.

lmao even
What's next you'll tell me that Phil told the judge that he super duper wouldn't stop releasing cod games for the playstation?
That azure data leak had a bunch of timelines and shit for xbox, there is 0% chance they're going to exit the console market in the next decade.

He said that, and you know what? CoD is coming to PS for what, 10 years in the future? Almost like he's following through?

Business make all sorts of plans. Plans are the deliverables of meetings. Which plans gets followed is a totally different question. And MS would keep the XBox brand, just as a streaming set-top box. It's just not a "console" as normally understood.

I'm sure it will have the same level of quality that it always has, and there won't be any issues or delays because Microsoft is a good company full of good guys who just want to give everyone what's best.

Never said it would. Hell, MS killed Halo is about 10 years' time. If you went back to 2009 and told someone that Halo would be dead by 2020 they would think you're crazy. In 10 years CoD will exist in the same place as MoH and other dead WW2 shooters.
