They're great as long as you filter by deals and order from places being subsidized by venture capital.
This is 4 entrees and two sides from a thai restaurant that I ordered the other day with some friends using Uber Eats. 2x BOGO entrees + 2x "free with X purchase" sides + 40% discount + reduced fees and $0 delivery membership benefit. Less than half of what we would have paid in the restaurant and didn't even have to go anywhere.
>>
>>96086323
You didn't really save any money. They bloated the price and then all the "deals" returned it to normal.

>You didn't really save any money
Yes, I absolutely did. I've been in that restaurant plenty of times, and each of those entrees would have been >$10 each, and the sides would be >$5 each. That order would have been a minimum of $50 in the restaurant, more likely closer to $60. Getting it delivered for a total of $26 is a massive savings.
>>96086381
Get in while the getting's good and drop it once it's not. No reason to decline cheap food now just because it won't be cheap forever.

>>
>>96087070
not that guy but most fast food places pusher hard to eliminate dollar menu items or make them 1 dollar and 99 cent items instead. That was early pandemic, we are now post-pandemic and I'm already seeing those prices pushed up. I have a feeling it's because of global food shortages via the Ukraine war.
>>
>>96087663
The fact that inflation has destroyed the dollar menu of 15 years ago has nothing to do with cheap food being available at fast food places. I can get enough food to completely fill me up for less than $5 easily at almost any fast food place, and that's far better than any non-fast-food restaurant.

That's just an implied pretense, what they're doing is testing their customers' willingness to keep paying more for the same shit.

Nothing you are just dumb. The driver has to make a profit and pay for gas. When you factor this in the price is going to go up. They also probably are getting paid more than minimum wage. I mean consider the fact that a normal drive will cost 15 bucks minimum and now you have two locations the restaurant and then your house. Its easy to see how this much of a hike hit you.
>>
>>96087589
A 2lb bag of rice is $2, an entire chicken is like $10-12, add some tomatoes, onions, peppers, spinach, etc and that’s a solid meal for 4. Probably more food than 4 big macs and fries, for $15 maybe $20. And that’s if you have to have meat. Tofu’s like $3 for a big hunk and a 5lb bag of dry beans can be less than a buck a pound. $30 for a meal for 4 is hardly cheap. Cheap for going out at best

>I have a feeling it's because of global food shortages via the Ukraine war
the main issue isn't corporate greed. corporate loves dollar menus since they drive repeat traffic and brand recognition especially among the penny-pinchers. the problem comes from franchisees who are effectively being screwed since they're either losing money or barely breaking even on them. it's the reason burger king has been constantly changing their $5 meal over the last three years.

>They also probably are getting paid more than minimum wage
not at all lmao. delivery app drivers get paid like shit. gig apps skirt around labor laws by classifying their workers not as employees but as independent contractors. when you order you're actually making an offer to the driver to deliver your food at [x] pay. this is obviously bullshit because when you the customer order you have no say in who delivers your food or what they're paid.
>>
>>96089131

>>
>>96086266
Fastfood is not cheap. It was never cheap, but people always have always figured McDonalds was cheap since they've had decent deals in the past. I can kind of understand people's perspective in grabbing fast food due to being overwhelmed with work, but that's only something I've had to deal with every so often. If you're unable to cook every fucking day, your work-life balance is trash, and you need to find a better job.

I'm a little convinced that people don't know how to grocery shop as well. Everyone either buys junk food there, or they go for organic and overpay on fucking everything.

>>
>>96089356

>>
>>96089356
> this is obviously bullshit because when you the customer order you have no say in who delivers your food or what they're paid.
What does that matter? The service is contracting out the work, has nothing to do with the customer. Service and costumer agree on a price then the service offers a job out to any independent contractor in the area who wants it.

>>96089482
Not really. You only get paid for the job itself and jobs are intermittent. If you work an 8hr shift your getting paid for a lot of dead time between actual work. Not just lunch and whatever, if you have ten minutes between meetings there’s not much you’re going to get done but you’re still paid the whole time. With these services you may get an 1hr of paid work over 1.5-2+hrs
>>
>>96089500
Fuk u say to me
>>
>>96089482
you missed the part where it says...
>Includes DoorDash pay and customer tip
it's not "$5 or more", it's $4.75, assuming the customer doesn't revoke the tip afterwards (which they tend to do). also under half an hour is unlikely. ideally it wouldn't be but sometimes restaurants are either really slow or really busy (in this case it's a chickfila so you bet your ass they're mobbed). also restaurants treat delivery orders with less priority, and sometimes they'll be out of shit and YOU are responsible for getting ahold of the customer and waiting for them to tell you their substitution.

but even if everything goes smoothly and you deliver it on time, whose to say when you're going to get another offer? not all markets are the same, and if a market's already filled with drivers then the offers will only be lower.
>>
>>96089540
it literally is. here the service fee is 0.75 euro and the delivery cost is usually around 2 euro. the prices of the food are the exact same as in the restaurant, so that's not marked up either.
it is the same that happened with uber, once they got people used to it they raised prices above normal taxis. i expect they will do the same here eventually too.

Food delivery is kind of a self regulating business. As the number of people ordering grows, the more orders the poor wagie doing it does, the more money they make. As others catch on they join in and the number of orders per wagie drops along with their take-home pay. So some food delivery wagies quit. From where I stand, they don't really make good money.
Also their orders are 90% garbage and fast food. Your food delivery wagie is silently judging you when you order and so is the cashier at the store.
