I am being forced to install wangblows on my steam deck. Is it even worth turning off all that telemetry and trying to de-botnet it? I feel like it would be pointless
>>96085356>I am being forced to install wangblows on my steam deck. Why?
>>96085380He needed an excuse to make a thread complaining about windows.
Nobody installs Windows on their Steam Deck, it'd be pointless.
>>96085380I need access to a few more games
>>96085607>forcedlol, kInstalling Windows on Steam Deck is extremely fucking retarded. Why did you even buy it!?
>>96085607> Ugh, someone released a game that only works on a specific operating system.> They're FORCING ME to use it!God I'm so glad Linux users aren't this pathetic.
>>96085607Like which ones? WINE runs them all now.
>>96085803He probably means some Japanese pedo rape games, as always
>>96085356Just install win10 enterprise LTSC. I used it on mine for a few months, it's fine, it mostly works. I originally tried win11 but It came with a bunch of crap I don't need and ate like 4GB of RAM with nothing open. The available GPU drivers are very outdated, don't have the radeon settings panel and have issues with fullscreen in some games. D3d9 and OpenGL games also run way worse than under steamOS. The fan is way louder too.
you get more performance and extra battery life for free, see for yourself if it's important for you>>96086453wine runs literal AAA bullshit unoptimized games on day zero, these should work too
>>96086606The GPU drivers are missing hardware video decoding/encoding. You also need to download and install drivers manually like it's 2003.Windows on deck can work with some effort, and with https://github.com/ayufan/steam-deck-tools/ you can get the in-game framerate cap, TDP and frequency settings you get on SteamOS, minus the scaling options. Installing Windows and dealing with all the bullshit that entails just to play some game with a rootkit masquerading as anticheat just isn't worth it to me.
>>96085356I thought they used linux.
>>96086453those games run fine as well
>>96086606you can install radeon settings panel from older version of amd drivers (23.3.1) and it will work, you can also find newer version of modified drivers from nimez but for some reason i couldn't get them to work on my deck.i also installed windows on it when i upgraded my ssd, but it turned out to be kinda useless and just wasting my disk space, because everything already works on steamos and it just runs better for me.>>96086829i've seen dxva working in gpu-z so i guess decoding is fineby the way, i still have some unsupported devices in windows device manager even after installing all the official drivers, however i managed to install drivers with SDI for some of them
>>96086619>wine runs literal AAA bullshit unoptimized games on day zero, these should work tooNips are hilariously bad programmers so half of their indie pedo VN shit doesn't run in Wine. Often it won't even run in Windows unless you change your locale to Japenese.
>>96085387>>96085605>>96085725>>96085792>>96085803>>96086453>>96086882>download Death Stranding """verified""" green check mark perfect compatibility game on brand new steam deck>crashes after 5 minutes of playing>people say shit about increasing swap file>need to run a bunch of voodoo magic commands as rootWow so this is the power of Linux desktop. Valve should be send to jail for claiming that games run fine when they need extra steps.
>>96085607Wouldn’t windows eat away at your ram?
>>96086941This sounds like a user problem.inb4 you are using a shitty microsd card
>>96086829>like it's 2003go on I'm listening
>>96086923DXVA does show up in GPU-Z, but try any program that can make use of it and it'll always fall back to software.
>>96086941You have to do "magic voodoo" to get some games to work on Windows, too. Be glad there's no registry on GNU/Linux.
>>96086941Works on my machine. The voodoo happens automatically.
>>96087033>microsdI got the expensive steam deck so I don't use an SD card.>>96087071>windows>go into the provided settings page and set page file largervs>linux>start desktop mode>start terminal>sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swap bs=1M count=8000>sudo mkswap /swap>sudo swapon /swap>have to turn swap on every reboot because fuck trying to learn how to make some shitty systemd script to do it automatically>oh wait swap files are bad because the kernel is full of shitty data corruption bugs when using swap files on the various buggy shit filesystems that Linux uses, swap files still bugged after literal decades of use https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-5.12-Corruption-Fixed>go find microsd card instead and turn it into a swap partition because that's the only safe way to use swap on linux
Just install windows on a USB spare drive in an enclosure. Use a hub or dock to run the games you need.
>>96087185>thing i like>donevs>thing i don't like>partial step>partial step>partial step>partial step>whoops it all broke which totally happens every time trust me bro
>>96087185Use the experimental proton version then

>>96087235>right clicking the game in steam and clicking "properties" is "voodoo"you are too stupid for desktop OSes. go buy an ipad
>>96087235This: >>96087288If you are so fucking stupid that going into the game properties and changing the proton version is le hard. Then you're either baiting or just go back to Windows.
>>96087318>>96087288>>right clicking the game in steam and clicking "properties" is "voodoo"You're right that was easy, thanks cunt.Still using Windows though, I doubt that experimental proton would fix the memory crash.
>>96086941death stranding literally runs perfect on steamdeck lmao.Either you have a shitty micro sd card or are doing something stupid
>>96087354if you wanna suffer through nu-windows that's your wasted time, not mine
>>96087211what is this cope, he is literally right
>ITT: linuxfags with zero self awareness still refusing to see why people don't fucking like using linux
>>96087395so how many swap corruption bugs have you encountered?
>>96086941works on my machine
>>96086941> download Death Stranding on my steam deck> crashes with error message > searches the issue online> need to use version 8.0-2> doesn't crash anymoreHow horrible. This sucks and I should switch to Windows> switch to Windows> download starfield> crashes with error message "0x85000023"> searches the error> random unrelated crap with nothing to do with my gameThis is fine. I feel great about this.
>>96087370https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujcC1_Ur9RYsounds like a shit game to play
>>96087617I take>things that don't happenfor 500
>>96087354Well then install Windows on your Steamdeck. Easy enough because it's not an iShit.I figure MIcrosoft is going to tailor Windows more into the SteamDeck/HandHeld formfactor to exploit the gaming field a bit more but shove the MS Store down your throats to do so.
>>96085356>forced at gunpoint to install windowsthat's rough buddy
>>96085803NTA, but riddick wasn't working.
>>96085725>>96085605Windows just werx. Linux is free if you don't value your time.
>Windows just werx. Linux is free if you don't value your time.
>>96085356Honestly the fact that Valve don't use windows on the steam deck is incredibly predatory and anti-consumer by locking users into their platform.
>>96090367Fuck off bill go make some more viruses
>>96090192Gamers don't value their money nor their time
>>96085356I’d recommend buying an external SSD and dualbooting but you do you.
>>96086941The other anon is right, Death Stranding runs perfect on my Steam Deck. Having said that there are some green check games that I had issues with, namely Chernobylite.
>>96085356No, you're installing it because your IoT lightbulb OS can't do what Windows can.
>>96087617>lying freetard couldn't even dream up a real error codeImagine my shock.
>>96087235Oh it's bait
>>96090192If you paid for the Steam Deck you paid for the development of Steam OS.
>>96090192All of this "if you don't value your time nonsense" is retarded. If you take shortcuts every time and don't learn skills then your time won't increase in value and by by flooding the supply of time on the market your time will naturally become less valuable. Eventually your time will have so little value, that you can afford to use Linux, but by that point the time you would have spent learning Linux will be spent cumulatively on getting coffee for your boss for free.>>96090367Keeping Microsoft, Google, Apple, Redhat and Canonical away from providing the default OS on devices leads to better devices and a better user experience.
