Does Android no longer have the option to mount SD as internal storage natively? there are drivers installed even if you don't install them. windows has them built in but they aren't as performant but I would suspect they can still do 120hz

Alright linux friends, I've got a hard one for you here.

I need help formating a .bashrc

Currently, I am using bash within tmux, and I am using the supplied bashrc and bashlogout in the pastebin.
Here is my requirement for the .bashrc.

Infinite
Syncronized between windows
Time and date marked
Ignores spaces in when writing history (does not write midnight commander working commands)
Erases dupes

The problem I have is that it either erases my history on exit, except for the last tmux window I close. For example:

Window 1
Written: Test 1
Window 2
History: Test 1
Written: Test 2
Window 3
History: Test 1
History: Test 2
Written: Test 3

On exit, the history of Window 2 and 3 is deleted, and I only see Test 1 in this bashhistory. Is there a way to have a syncronized history memory, in any tmux window, no matter which order it was opened or closed, while still deleting dupes from the history file, while writing to the file after each command? I have spent hours tinkering with bash, but I am yet to come up with a solution. Perhaps you wizards can help.

How much of these come in a tray? I'm sure they're not selling 16GB flash for $27 a piece. That would equate to $1.68/GB which is a far cry from SSDs which approach $0.05/GB and are way faster. Even if you were to buy in bulk it still would be far off.

If I have 2 torrent clients open at the same time, could I not connect to twice the number of peers and download at twice the rate?
>>
>>96086687
Having two clients open doesn't make the peer count go higher. And making the peer count go up doesn't increase your bandwidth. (do you have a 10 gigabit line or something?)
Ideally you'd want to find a rough number that makes your stuff go full speed and set a limit there. Adding more peers after that point only increase the packet overhead -> actually lowering the net speed of getting the file(s) you want. Pressure on the word "rough" as you can't possibly know how much a random peer is going to offer you their bandwidth or how good is your connectivity to that random peer.
Example: I got a 10Mbit line (I know, current year) and roughly know that 100 peers globally is going to saturate my bandwidth -> I set a hard limit of 80.

So I've started hosting my own website as a fun project. I setup a DMZ around the machine that I'm hosting it on so it's isolated from the rest of my network. However my ISP has started sending me alerts about blocking malware from connecting. (Pic rel)
Is this something I should be concerned about or something that's just normal for servers that are open to the Internet. The attempts ARE being "blocked," but I'm worried that their might be some that aren't.

>Can I put in ram from a different computer in this one even if they're not the same size?
Yes. You just need to make sure your PC supports it. But since you already had more ram in your PC, then you can surely just stick them in and go for it.
Just in case though, I'd watch a guide on doing it, but ram is the easiest shit in the world to install. Just make sure it's tight as malfunctioning ram can ruin a PC as I'm sure you already know.
>until I can get proper replacements
Make sure you stick to this and do it asap. 16 GB of ram isn't expensive. 100$ if that.

Trying to put together an answer file for some Wangblows installs for work/learning.

For whatever reason, I cannot for the fucking LIFE of me get fucking scripts to run as part of the unattend.xml file. Not in the setupcomplete.cmd, not in synchronous logon, not on AuditUser synchronous. They just don't seem to be working whatsoever. I cannot find a fucking reason for it and I don't know if logs even exist anywhere considering I'm installing directly in a VM after sysprep to test.

The scripts are saved locally on the sysprep'd device itself and YES they are surviving sysprep because I have copyprofile=true.

Learn to use specific words because they matter in computing. If you mean lost your Windows password you can easily boot a live USB to reset your password and this is a fine time to practice. Everyone should have a USB toolkit. There are many tutorials. I use Ventoy by writing the .iso to USB.

https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_start.html

Then paste some toolkit .isos both Windows and Linux, but for this password reset

https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sergei_strelecs_winpe.html

works fine. I would later add Windows install .isos and live Linux like Kali.

There are many ways to do this. Ignore spergtards this time and do the above. You'll find the password tools in the programs menu.

Have fun and play with live tools as they can do so much for you. They're good enough for general use if your hard disk dies.

HP (and any manufacturer) will always have drivers on their website. Find the proper ones for your model, put them on a flash drive, and have fun. You might need to disable secureboot in order to wipe the drive, and you'll might need specific drivers loaded into the Windows installation process when you get to the step for choosing drive to wipe. Sometimes laptop mfgs are cunts and hide them because they want you installing their bloatware.

what are you trying to do? It sounds like you're trying to install something from source, in which case the usual process is to go to the directory in a terminal,
then run ./configure
then make
then make install
then make clean
then make distclean
but that's assuming a nicely written program.
the ./configure script sets variables for your computer, in the make file,
the make actually builds the program,
the make install moves the program to your systems folders and the others delete the extra files made when building from source.
you can usually just scan the output each step for any warnings about missing packages and install those... Reading the actual source code of the program is what you would do if you're trying to modify the program.

It's pretty unlikely that it's a cable issue, but you should rule that out too. Grab a laptop or something and connect it to the modem with a short, known-good cable and see if you get the same results. Or use your long cable and transfer a file between two local machines with it, and if you can get higher speeds between them then the cable's fine.
But yeah chances are it's your ISP and you should have them come out and fix it.

I'm experiencing a strange issue related to wifi speeds or rather the way they are presented. I have a 500/100 connection (fiber) and when connecting directly to the router using a network cable I receive full speed. If I do a wifi speedtest using the terminal it claims around 460Mbit/s and when performing a real usage test (i.e. file transfer) I'm receiving speeds of around 50MB/s which is perfectly fine and more or less saturating the connection.

However, If I use Ookla or some other type of browser related speedtests (even domestic which should offer great peering) it never displays anything above 200-300Mbit/s. What could be causing this? Is it somehow DNS related? Or do the speedtest use such a small transfer size that it doesn't allow the connection to reach its full speed?

The strange thing is that I recently moved and in my old apartment it always displayed full speeds in the browser tests. At the new house the wifi situation is much more crowded which I thought was causing poor speeds but the speeds themselves don't seems to be bad, it's just that they are displayed as bad with Ookla for instance.
>>
>>96091175
What does fast.com say? It's Netflix, so in their interest to show an accurate speed test.
>>
>>96091194
It also claims approx 300Mbit/s which is so strange since real usage is much higher yet neither of the browser tests display anything about 200-300Mbit/s, even though they've done so in the past with the same units, same router and same connection (albeit a different adress but still). If I try a local version (bredbandskollen.se) which is based here in Sweden I still get the same results, yet if I use http://speedtest.tele2.net/ and initialize a 10GB download for instance it instantly jumps to 50B/s and hovers around 45-55MB/s. The same if I go and download Ubuntu or some other distro, an instant (and constant) 50MB/s.
>>
>>96091328
50MB/s = 400Mb/s. Are you mixing up your Bytes and Bits?
>>

>Smartest Countries 2023

>>
>>96091347
Yeah, I'm aware that 50MB/s isn't the same as 500Mbit/s but real life tests still perform 50-100% higher than browser based test (or rather flash bashed tests since a regular browser download instantly reached 50MB/s). I'm not expecting to be able to utilize my full speed since it's quite unrealistic due to various circumstances related to wifi but what I don't understand is why the flash based tests perform so poorly when they've displayed around 500Mbit/s in the past utilizing the same setup.

However in the past two years I've tried redeeming again, but it doesn't work even after all those steps. I get the error message:
>Couldn't redeem this code. This code can only be used in United States. See Gift Card terms of service.
which is what I would get whenever I tried redeeming without turning on my VPN. My account displays USD prices even without the VPN. I also have a United States profile in Account and device preferences.
Do I just try again with a different VPN or am I fucked somehow? Did my account get flagged?
>>
>>96091408
Also, when using Cloudflares speed test it claims 450Mbit/s.
https://speed.cloudflare.com/
>>
>>96091408
300Mb/s = 37.5MB/s and 45MB/s = 360Mb/s. You're comparing 300 to 360 or 37.5 to 45. Just use the same units everywhere. A Byte has 8 Bits. Your speeds are in the same ballpark, but you're not seeing it because you're using different units. How many hops it takes to reach the speedtest server and how many different networks are involved matter. So 10% or 20% difference is quite normal. I don't really see your problem.
>>
>>96091568
Cloudflare is consistently displaying 450-470Mbit/s whereas other services never display anything above approx. 250Mbit/s. The speeds are obviously reaching 50-55MB/s which would be the equivalent of around 400-450Mbit/s yet most speedtests display significantly less (like 50% less) which is very misleading.

When I've done these types of tests in the past they have been much more consistent with the actual speeds achieved, yet now they seem to display maybe half of that. I'm just curious as to why this is happening since I initially believed there was something wrong with my connection or wifi network before doing further tests, like I said it's displayed more realistic usage speeds in the past but as of recent has a hard time reaching more than 200-250Mbit/s.

I'm in Zurich at the moment. Fast.com reports 20% more speed than Cloudflare right this minute. Fast uses a server in Zurich for testing a few km away, Cloudflare uses a server in Milan for testing a few hundred kms away. Am you surprised by the speed difference?

Can you dual boot with CSM disabled?

I have windows 11 and ubuntu on two different drives (SSD sata and SSD .2). On mainboard BIOS I only see one (SSD SATA - ubutu), SSD m.2 drive (windows 11) is not a boot option, though I can still boot windows 11 if it's set as default, in windows.
If I enable CSM, all the drives appear but this is not the question.

TL;DR: when CSM is disabled, can't see boot options.

I did read your posts. You have a max. 500 Mb/s contract. You get 460 Mb/s testing wifi inside your house. Cloudflare speedtest gives you also close to that practical max. However Ookla gives you 250 to 300. You want to know what's up. Use traceroute I guess, to find out where the bottleneck is using Ookla, and why Cloudflare doesn't suffer from the same bottleneck.

>>96092673
It depends on how the website determines your location. There are multiple databases they can use. And not all give the same answer, as you found out. And if they use multiple methods with conflicting answers, which one do they use? The reality is that almost all VPNs use these type of 'virtual ip' addresses, where the ip is registered in location A, but the actual server with the VPN software on it is in location B. The only really relevant question is if it works for your use case. If you want to watch German TV, does the ZDF or ARD website accept you are in Germany, although the VPN server is in Turkey using a German registered IP address?

I tried googling this first, but couldn't find anything remotely about it.

I recently updated my windows for the first time in years to play Starfield. I regret this for a dozen reasons already, but this one is becoming the most frustrating. Whenever I click on a file - any file - I get a brief moment of loading (sometimes even with a loading wheel) before it lets me access the file. I'm also finding that any file I click on is getting "Accessed" by something even if I don't open it, which I think is related. For example, I haven't opened, touched, or changed the file in pic related since 2020. But by Rclicking it, it hanged for a full second, the menu popped up, I clicked Properties, and thus it says it was just accessed. This was not the case prior to the windows update. Before updating, I could inspect a file's properties without it being accessed and without this frustrating delay. Also, once I've waited for this initial accessing delay, a file will be snappy like usual and the "Accessed" time won't update until I think a minute has passed. Once a minute has passed, it'll have another delay and then a new Accessed timestamp.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Or how I can check for myself what's causing this? It's just a second delay for each file, but it's frustrating the hell out of me and I know it was never doing this before.

Are there any completely free and actually genuinely easy-to-use (one-click/no command line bullshittery, no manual routing) VPN apps designed specifically for use with Linux? And if there are, if there are several of them, which ones are currently considered the best by /g/ or general Linux-using audience? I agree wth this idea, my mom's phone fucked up last summer because of this, she lost a lot of data
Phone was only 16GB, so I used a 32GB MicroSD card as integrated storage
Had been fine for 2-3 years
From time to time I monitored it, seeing how full it got
It never reached capacty, only ever reached max 50%
And the phone flash never reached full ether
Stupidly I thought this meant everything was fine, as I thought this meant the phone was always preferring to do writes esp temporary writes (watching videos, app cache, browsing cache writes etc), and the card was only being used for permanent storage
So I wasn't worried about it dying
I was wrong, clearly Android made no bones about using the card for temp writes - probably preferentially to the phone flash, which is dumb
Then it died suddenly, too many writes, and so apps and data and some storage was lost

For once I agree wth something Google is doing, removing that feature is a good idea. Back in the days of 8/16 GB storage phones it made sense
Now 64 is the minumum even for budget phone
Mid range commonly get 128
So no need for the integrated storage thing, which is a disaster waiting to happen

you have to look at the stats to see if they match
first whch ddr generation, i think they are no compatible
ddr2 only compat with ddr2, ddr3 wth ddr3, ddr4 with ddr4 etc
then you have to look at the voltage, mae sure the voltage matches
then frequency and timings
lower frequency than normal may be ok
higher might also be ok but t will be limited to what the motherboard is specd at

you can look at cheap chink ram form aliexpress

windows 11 let boot manager handle the process, not the bios.
In bios, it only displays a generic name "windows boot manager" but mine somehow also has "960 EVO" on it, so it was confused. Probably EFI file is stored on this drive.

TL;DR: just a visual issue. With windows 11, you can't choose boot drive from bios.

Different anon here. I'm using Firefox+uBlock on mobile and sometimes 4chan fails to download images on mobile. Doesn't matter whether uBlock is active or not. It either gets stuck in an infinite download process or it says that it failed and it eventually works after I spam the retry button.

Anything I can do to fix this stuff? I've used 4chanX before, but didn't find it all that useful. Maybe I should revisit it, but I don't know what features might motive me. >>
>>96104091
Emacs is way heavier than Vim. It's almost like an operating system. Vim is lighter, just does modal editing, and is installed almost everywhere. So ssh into a random Linux server and you will usually have it. Not so with Emacs. The keybindings are different. Emacs uses the Meta key a lot, with keyboard shortcuts often consisting of multiple keys. Both editors have their proponents, but most often either one or the other. I'm in the Vim camp. Hate Emacs. I've never really understood the Emacs attraction, and have tried lots of times. Always go back to Vim.

I'm currently running zoneminder on a celeron board that consumes about 28 watts.

I also have a threadripper workstation that consumes about 200 watts idling and consumes about 228 watts running zoneminder with the same settings.

I need an instance of MacOS that's always on because reasons, but I'd like to minimize expense and power consumption, because 200 watts heats my place a lot in the summer. So, I could get a mac mini and run the Shinobi NVR software on it instead, or I could run MacOS in a VM, but I don't think that'll last as long since it depends on apple not breaking it in some way, or breaking imessage for Ventura after a new version releases that's only available for Apple Silicon.

if you go too far the other way, you end up with an equally annoying problem, spending a whole page describing one small thing with the rest of the page explaining all the context around it you didn't go there for

>>
>>96109635
>it's unreasonable to expect all documentation to be written like you don't know anything at all

yeah but be even-handed about it. the way I see this crop up is that later features are described in terms of earlier features, as if you expect people reading your documentation to read it front to back like a novel instead of looking up things they want to know. that may well be how the documentation was written, but it is certainly now how documentation is used. if some details of the overall system made sense to explain for feature X, they should be explained for feature Y too.

Alright can someone tell me what Ive done to this SSD? It's an 128 GB SKHYNIX M2 SATA.
I've done all the standard shit like chkdsk in windows and sfc scannow. Cant initilaize. It's on a SABRENT adapter to USB. Might have screwed the adapter (shorted with screws).

A year ago a friendly /g/ anon helped me out on finding a host for a website which was namecheap. I use a basic shared host plan to have a website up and upload some tiny shit i make to share with everyone. I noticed that there were no storage limits so i also used it as a personal archive but it was just recently, well over a year where i was emailed by namecheap about archiving being against TOS and that i need to remove said files. However in the warning email they suggested on switching to a dedicated server and on contacting support, i was told that if i do use a dedicated server and i quote "they dont exactly regulate what i do with the dedicated server" and "if you want to keep these archives, you can upgrade your hosting plan to Dedicated Server." Right now i cannot afford such plan so i am here to ask if its worth bothering to find a host that doesnt care what i do with my storage or if i should just get more physical storage and have dummy accounts on all sorts of file-sharing services.

There's a switch on my desktop PC case to turn off the electricity (next to the power cable socket).

I've been turning it off every time after shutting down my PC, but recently it started making weird electrical noises on switching.

Could it be causing some damage for some reason? I don't think I ever flipped the switch before the PC would be fully shut down. Surely it doesn't take 5 minutes or something to turn off. AI generated Indian first search result:

Im guessing something like 500+ GBs would be ok to be more on the safe side than to have pay extra for more storage if needed. I dont have tons of stuff but im simply paranoid of losing data even if its just junk.
>>
>>96111146
You were using a Namecheap website hosting plan for that? Kek.

For 500GB you could use Backblaze B2 for $2.50 per month (plus download costs of I think 1 cent per GB) Or if you don't mind going controversial, use Yandex. I have been a happy Yandex disk user for many years. For various historical reasons I have 350GB free storage with them, which I use as permanent cold storage for old data. I also use Yandex mail for a 1 to 1 backup of my entire Gmail (Yandex mail is free and unlimited) No complaints. You will not get 500GB for free, but you will currently get 1TB for $1.21 per month (if you pay yearly). Check it out, or just use B2.

>You were using a Namecheap website hosting plan for that? Kek.

In my defense not only there was no storage cap but i was never informed for over a year that i shouldnt do that so i just kept uploading crap thinking "Wow, thats super handy!" I'll see into these and think about it. On the topic of hosting in general, is getting a VPS worth it if there's a tight budget? I do considering upgrading to a VPS plan for both my website but also be able to host vidya servers, pic related the a middleground of price and specs, thoughts?
>>
>>96111365
For VPS I have used (and am using) Digital Ocean, Vultr, and Hetzer. OVH would be another potential candidate, but I don't trust French people personally. Check them all out. Vultr is the cheapest starting at $2.50 but you only get an IPv6 connection. IPv4 needs another $1 per ip address. In future I may also try out Yandex Compute. Seems like the cheapest VPS with them is under $2 per month.

For just a static website, you don't need to pay anything if you use Netlify. I've stuck loads of small websites with them over the years. There are others. Just DuckDuckGo it. You only need a VPS if you want dynamic shit like PHP or use a database.
>>
>>96111484
It's spelled *hetzner* of course, and the cheapest VPS with them you can only get in their German or Finnish data center
>>
>>96111365
Alternative to my suggestions above, check out low end box https://lowendbox.com/ for cheapo shit VPS wise. Be warned though, this is bottom of the barrel territory, with mostly KVM solutions (VMs share the host kernel, so you can't drop in your own dedicated OS, and most suppliers there oversell their offering, so you'll be sharing resources with 100s of others wondering why it's all so slow)

Does end of life/support somehow makes gpu run worse than they used to? Haven't played vidya in a while and decided to play some games that I used to play (on the same machine) about 10 years ago but they run so poorly that they're absolutely unplayable. Drivers, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes, .NET Desktop Runtime and XNA Framework are up to date. DirectPlay is enabled. Never ever had an issue with any component. The only thing that changed is that I can't install geforce experience due to the gpu not being supported anymore. But that shouldn't make a difference since it's mostly for being notified of driver updates and I've got the latest supported by my gpu already.

I enjoy how many people are nostalgic for the late 80s to the 2000s, I was born in the 90s and while I don't understand why people who were born in the 2000s or later have this weird cultural nostalgia about it like I do about the 20s to 50s but I appreciate some of the art that has come out of it. Help what if i need twisted or straight utp cables between these
I have a huawei HG8247H ONT. It is a wifi router with 4 lan ports an a fiberoptic wan port. The connection towards the isp on the wan port is ppoe. This huawei router has 2 operating modes. Router mode (acting as a wifi router) and bridge mode (whatever on the wan port gonna be forwarded to the lan1 port and whatever on the lan1 port gonna be forwarded to the wan port without making any ppoe connection). I have an asus RT-AC66U B1 router.
I will put the huawei router to bridge mode and connect my asus router wan port to thr huawei router lan1 port. Then i connect my pc's lan port to the asus router lan1 port.
So straight or cross utp between huawei and asus routers. Straight or cross utp between asus router and my pc.
I tried to google online but it is not evident which to use, between router and router i should use cross, but the lan side of a router is a switch so i should use straight??? Similar issue with my pc end of side. Between router and pc it should be cross, but the lan side of a router is a switch so it should be cross??

it basically is, a somewhat boring and offputting color, but if your worried about anything else giving you too much dopamine then beige and grey (gray) is the way to go. People tend to be more distractable and off task in white, black, and brighter color rooms, so it has its uses. I have ADHD so all the walls in my house are gray or beige to prevent me from retarding out. Even if its only effecting 0.01% of my behavior I need all the help I can get.

What it means is that when you watch videos on YouTube, and you open an incognito window, you will get similar videos. Or you search for something on Google on a laptop and you get ads for the same topic on Instagram on your phone. Of course, the tech companies do not make any of this public and pretend they aren't doing it.

I dont know if this is the place to ask, but Im an intern in a 3d company and they are asking me something I have no idea about.
They are making renders that want to turn into vr but then put them on a projector in a room so every side shows the vr video but you dont need the glasses to see it, an inmersive room.
The problem is they want me to turn a simple video of premiere pro into this cubemap and I have no idea how.
I think I have the skybox tools necessary but I find no tutorials about actually making the cube so that inside the premiere you could see each side with the video like you are the one inside the room.
The company has many problems and Im just a 3d modeler and not a good one either lol

no, its Linux Mint. I have Windows 10 dual boot. BUt, this problem only seems to be happening in Linux. I haven't had any problem in Windows.
Sometimes, it speeds up and then slows down again. There seems to be no relation between when its idle in desktop and whether I'm working on it. And the laptop feels cool enough, so the CPU temperature couldn't be that high.

These look like garbage.

I own 2 acres and like to have music while I work on the property and chainsaw trees.

Anyone have any good recommendations?

Getting it from your router or from an outside server are really the only two options.
Galaxy brain option: route with your desktop PC and simply check the internet-facing network adapter status.

I'm fucking livid, I installed my brother printer a bit ago and now I'm getting pop-ups for ordering toner. What's a laser printer/scanner I can buy that doesn't come with a fuckton of adware/spyware?

Wish my brother was a printer too, instead of being a useless faggot.
