I've always wanted a PSP replacement that can run PC games.

If you aren't a child then everyone who sees you playing with your modern gameboy will think you are a pathetic manchild.
IF you are a man then just spend the money on a modern GPU.
DO you need to play vidya on the shitter that bad?
>>
>>96079581
I don't play vidya but I like the idea of playing some games in my bed.
I've never liked Nintendo.
>>
>>96079322
I use a Steam Deck for almost all gaming nowadays, despite having a full gaming PC with two 27" 4K screens. Of course the Deck sucks for things like shooters and some games like Destiny won't run, but I don't care.

Don't listen to elitist gatekeepers like >>96079581 and do your own thing.
>>
>>96079322
it should be kino for indie games cause a lot of them have native linux ports (and those that dont run well with proton),work well with gamepad type controls and dont take much resources

so playing some 2d thing in power saving mode should be pretty comfy and battery should last for days
>>
>>96079322
>>96079735
and also if you do
echo powersave | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

your battery should last two times longer
>>
>>96079781
sorry i meant
echo powersave | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor

What's the point of portable gaming? Seems even more retarded than laptops.
Is your zoomer brain that fucked up that you can't stay even a moment away from a digital screen?
Do you need to be playing games while commuting, travelling, on the toilet? Where else?
>>
>>96079870
gaming is a pretty good form of meditation anon
you should try osu, that shit is crack
>>
>>96079870
Same purpose as watching a football game - entertainment. Don't try to tell others how to enjoy the things they like. Do you also go to /k/ and ask them why they need guns?
>>
>>96079322
way to big
wish it was actual handheld size like psp (no chinkshit)
>>
>>96079322

>>
>>96081031
I loved the original Game Gear, but to be honest, the device kinda sucked. 6xAA batteries barely lasted 2 hours and if you had a Master System, you could get the same games and play them on a larger screen.
I love the Steam Deck for the same reason I loved the Game Gear - portable entertainment. Except the Deck actually delivers.
>>
>>96079615
Completely agree with this. I have a 5800X3d + 7900XT desktop and a Steam Deck. Guess which gets more mileage in Elden Ring

Haven't seen one that's just as portable as a PSP, the PC ones are big and chunky, and you'll pay gaming laptop prices for something that has 1/10th of the power.

Unless you travel a lot for work by plane or train or some shit there's zero reason to own this IMHO, and if you play this at home instead of using a PC with a controller you're a fucking idiot.
>>
>>96081819
Yeah don't get a Steam Deck then.
>if you play this at home instead of using a PC with a controller you're a fucking idiot.
Did you know that quite a sizeable chunk of all gamers are between 30-40 years old and don't care for your teenage elitism? They just wanna drop on the couch after a day's work and play something for an hour, not sit in front of yet another computer. Also, gaming in bed.

Lashing out and insulting people who simply don't share your life experiences, how very mature. Whatever makes you feel superior.
>>
>>96080906
Ask them to open source it
>>
>>96079909
You can do that at your house (aka desktop computer)
>>
LOL, look at all the desktop computer fanbois seethe because others have found a way to enjoy their life without a desktop computer

When will you guys finally grow up and realize that everyone has different preferences and your opinion doesn't matter, unless asked for?
Of course, my opinion also doesn't matter, but at least I don't pretend it does.
>>
>>96080906
You want a dedicated GPU in a fucking handheld?
>>
>I've always wanted a PSP replacement
It's called the Vita, anon. As for PC games, all Western slop is pozzed nowadays anyway.
>>
waiting to see more on the Lenovo one. That one seems like it'll be better quality
>>
>>96081995
>Did you know that quite a sizeable chunk of all gamers are between 30-40 years old and don't care for your teenage elitism?

All I see buying this junk are teens, and if you're so tired holding a controller in front of a TV its far more comfortable than holding one of these bricks for hours and killing your eyes with that tiny 720p screen.

Again, if you live somewhere where you have to commute for hours to work and not drive then this makes sense, but at home? pointless.
>>
>>96079322
These are meme garbage.

The SteamDeck is the only viable portable gaming device.

This. I have a brand new unopened steam deck and dock in the mail. im probably just going to resell it and buy the lenovo if it turns out good. or ill just sit on the money til next year and get whatever comes out that is an improvement.

>>96079322
video games are for fags and children, and fag children. Which one of those groups do you fall into?
>>
>>96081819
Gpd WIN4 is very often compared to a PSP, both in appearance and size
>>
>>96079581
I think everyone is a looser by default. jokes on you.
>>
>>96079322
If you want to play keyboard and mouse games rather than console ports you have to make sure that the device you buy is compatible with keyboard and mouse games. The Steam Deck has great compatibility. The Lenovo Go may be an option too as one controller turns into a mouse if you have a surface but wait for reviews to see how well it works.
>>
>>96079581
Not a problem. I don't respect "everyone" enough to care what they think of me.
>>
>>96086218
I don't know what group - if any - he falls into but you fall into the group that wants the fags to raise your children by letting them control your children's entertainment.

>They just wanna drop on the couch after a day's work and play something for an hour, not sit in front of yet another computer.

Worth noting is if your battlestation is not more comfy than your couch you are doing it wrong. Mine is a car seat mounted to a power recliner base (car seats are far tougher and better engineered than chairs).

I may get a deck because they're cheap so why not, but I see far too many people who should know better neglect ergonomics. Life is to short not to wallow in comfort.

Steam Deck is pretty good. It’s the only device of this type that has it’s own OS designed for handheld use and custom CPU optimised for battery life. That alone makes all competitors irrelevant.

>>
Why is steamdeck better where ally completely on different league in terms of power? Seriously asking.
>>
>>96089392
Well designed hardware that’s comfortable to hold, touchpads, Steam Input, serviceable and parts readily available, purpose built OS, good battery life when playing indies or older titles, great software support (constant updates and new features).
Ally is faster but only at high TDPs where you need to have the power adapter plugged in. It’s not really competitive as a handheld device.
>>
>>96081995
Beds are for sleeping.
>>
>>96089614
Also custom built APU. Other handhelds of this type use of the shelf laptop parts. Deck is a low power king. Other devices are faster at high TDP but that kills the battery life.
>>
>>96089672
If it's so good why can't thirdies like me buy it? HUH??
>>
>>96079615
>the Deck sucks for things like shooter
try spending more than five minutes with the trackpads and gyro, skippy
>>
>>96086108
The hardware is fine, it's the lack of dedicated software. All devices that just shoehorn Windows into a small form factor have all the same problems of a "big" Windows PC - driver issues, updates interrupting and occasionally destroying shit and non-existant UX for mobile use. Also shitty power management for this kind of usage. The Deck might not be the most powerful or versatile device, but great software integration makes it the much better choice.
Go get your Deck from the mail and give it a shot.
>>
>>96088574
You're not living with a wife or children, are you? Because all the circumstances that actually lead to having a wife or children are mostly incompatible with the idea of having a battlestation like yours.
People who buy Steam Decks are probably living completely different lives from yours. I know I am.
>>
>>96090334
I did. Still prefer KB/M or just moving over to the PC for the rare times I still wanna play shooters.
>>
>>96081819
GPD Win Mini is the smallest modern UMPC, the campaign is live on Indiegogo right now and they are going to ship units out in November. It's not much bigger than a 3DS XL.

>>96087632
GPD Win 4 is much bigger than both PSP and Vita, it's close to Switch Lite in size and much chonkier. IMO UMPCs need clamshell design to be pocketable.
>>
>>96079581
>If you aren't a child then everyone who sees you playing with your modern gameboy will think you are a pathetic manchild.
Somehow highly doubt that, since everyone is on their phones nowadays, it's really not that different.
>>
>>96079322
i just stream from my pc or ps5 using my fold. Still not convinced that i need a dedicated device just yet. I play casual games so latency is acceptable
>>

Steam Deck but worse in every way except the screen looks a bit better
>>
>>96079781
>>96079815
I tried this and now my deck won't turn on anymore what the fuck did you do?
>>
>>96092945
This should not prevent your deck from turning on, just from entering higher-performance states. Keep holding the power button until the Deck fully turns off, then try turning it on again.

Alternatively, to make sure the Deck still works, turn it off, then press the volume(-) and power buttons at the same time to enter the boot menu.

Even if you fucked SteamOS, you can reinstall it from here.

>screen looks a bit better
1080p, 144hz and more color accurate is not "a bit better" its a completely different experience

also:
more silent
better speakers
lighter
faster

You can enjoy the steam deck more, argue price, thats all ok. But "worse in every way" just shows how much deluded fan boy you are. Which curiously enough comes from some (not all) steamdeck owners trying to cope or something that they need to trash other products

Better yet : do something productive with your time instead of gaming
>>
I got a 64 GB Steam Deck for my niece and put a 1 TB SSD in it. She loves it since it plays basically everything she wants to play. Fucking over Microsoft a little is a nice bonus.
Now whenever we meet she's very excited to see her uncle. I usually have a game or two prepared and like teaching her how to do various things.
Last time she was over we put on a skin to protect it (she wanted something kinda turquoise since it's her favorite color) and after getting pirated Switch games to work pretty much flawlessly we played Mario Kart and Zelda until bedtime.
>>
>>96079581
You know normal people see you spending 1000s on a gayming pc also see you as a pathetic man child right ?
>>
>>96096513
'normal people' pay taxes, that goes to pedophiles meals in prison, they also fund the killing of children in the womb and trannies (mentally ill adults and kids) hormone therapy.

>>96096458
Good times, anon. My eldest is 4, and I've loved playing some vidya with him on my deck (and switch, before that). On weekend nights, I'll crawl into bed with him and his sister and play minecraft or subnautica for 20 or so minutes while they lie next to me and watch (and ask about what's going on). It's a great feeling.

Well, she's normally very well behaved around me. But sometimes she gets a little too confident and presses buttons she shouldn't be pressing or acts a bit careless with the hardware. Nothing that was at all difficult to correct, thankfully, but she did find out that actions can have consequences. I can say that the interface in game mode is very easy to use, even for a child as long as they have a bit of understanding.
She's learning more and more each day and knows to contact me now. I feel a responsibility as her uncle to properly educate her about technology. We'll see how things go once I let her use the desktop mode by herself as I can see it leading to some issues.
>>
How well can these things play GTA5? I don't care about multiplayer and stuff, I just want to play modded single player without crashes/poor performance. Ideally 2 hours of battery would be nice too.
>>
>>96098803
Steam Deck: Turn down the graphical settings for 40-60 fps in single player, 2-2.5 hour battery life. Power settings can be tweaked for more stability.
Ally: 50-70 fps in single player, 1-1.5 hours battery life but can run for longer if you turn down the TDP and lower graphical settings.
Basically, these devices are not magic and will put out the graphical power you put in. The Steam Deck is more efficient but tops out earlier, while the Ally can burn a lot of battery to run AAA games at settings slightly over normal.
