Give me on reason why you aren't using linux mint right now /g/? The best just works distro.

Cinnamon is by far my favorite DE, even more than KDE.

PopOS is literally broken. Atleast have the decency of running Fedora or install gentoo on Mint so you can actually get a functioning OS.

I couldn't miss out on the AUR, it's way too convenient. Tiling WMs are also probably easier on Arch than on Mint.

I considered using Mint initially when switching to Linux full time, but I opted to use Arch btw instead, I figure the best way to learn how to use Linux is to start with something hard, I've had a lot of time to learn

i'm still convinced he threw that challenge on purpose. ignoring him being a retarded gaymer who played up extremely inane problems for the camera, a 30-something adult should know 1) that listicles aren't a good source of information and 2) save link as is never a button that you want to click, linux and github be damned. also all but one of his closing criticisms also applies to macos which really gets old. sure you can pretend to brutally smackdown 2% of desktop users but good luck telling an additional 14% that their os that they use for work also sucks. and don't get me wrong if you're a windows gaymer that's a fine reason for you personally to not use linux but verbosely saying linux isn't windows isn't really a criticism of linux.

They let you do it. Home is missing things that let you use your pc. But it’s really easy. LTSC is coming out very soon, Enterprise is very bloat free though. I’ll be using that with my next build unless 12 comes out. Then I’ll be using 12. I don’t hold onto dead software. Old hardware can kiss my ass too. The moment bugs start happening, it’s time to upgrade my hardware. I’ll give it away to my friends when I’m done with it.

* Better customization without having to pay money to actually change the taskbar.
* The fact I can actually move the taskbar to the left of the screen or the right without having it forced in the center.
* The moment you even try to remove any bloat (like Windows Store) something breaks.
* Microsoft slowly removing features while adding more ads.

Have you considered not being a bootlicker to adobe and wacom? Companies are not your friend anon. They don't care about you. They won't help you in your time of need. They see you as nothing but a resource to be exploited.

Open source on the other hand is a communal based system. We all work together to benefit the overarching community at large. No one is exploited. No one is left behind. Yes some things might be behind right now in terms of technological advancements, but we are fighting against a fascistic system that has it's boot on our throats. Sometimes you have to take a stand and realize some things are more important than convenience.

Are Photoshop and wacom tablets worth losing your freedom from oppression? I think not anon. Shed yourself from your sense of individuality. Individuality leads you to giving into your selfish desires rather than thinking of the overarching community at large. The community would be a better place if people focused the masses over the greed of monolithic, individual, entities like fucking adobe and other capitalist corporations who won't be happy until humanity is enslaved to a fascist system. Were humans are nothing but cattle to serve the elite.

>Is LUKS difficult to use (or rather, is it easy to mess up with?)
No idea, fumbled around with it some years ago when trying out an actual Kali installation, I wouldn't recommend it to someone with zero experience using a command-line.
Contrary to my earlier statement, VC in Linux CANNOT encrypt the system partition, that option is missing from the Create New Volume wizard.

It's not easy to find a definite answer about using Mint with LUKS. An article from seven years ago says you can create a LUKS encrypted system partition with the installer, but that info might be dated. Personally, I don't remember seeing that option, but it's not unlikely I may have skimmed it:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=install+mint+with+luks
Getting used to having to Google these things is part of the process. It annoys me as well, but, to be fair, Windows has 25 years of me Googling how to do things, in what I'm expecting Linux to do in two weeks, so there's that.

EndeavourOS is too comfy. The only issue I've ever had is when a grub update screwed up and I had to recreate the config file.

I can't , because, in fact, I've also been using Linux Mint with Cinnamon as my main OS for years.

I also do. Mint works fine with that.

You can indeed install Mint under a LUKS partition, but it's a weird process. During the creation of partitions you have to create an encrypted partition, and then inside the volume you have to create the filesystem that you're going to use for your installation, and after that point everything goes as usual.
I been using mint under LUKS and I haven't noticed a difference between encrypted and unencrypted

windows 7. but I have it in a VM with Mate DE, it just works + no being an updoot slave

Ok, im sick of winglows. Installing linux mint flagship DE now. I need it for nodejs/npm, vscope, blender, gimp, audacity, davinciresolve.
WILL IT JUST WORK?
>>
>>93673487
>WILL IT JUST WORK?
Yes, most applications you've mentioned are open source. They'll work great on Mint.
>>

I used to be part of it. I would send my used hardware to people. They barred me and banned me from just about every venue because of my Christian views. I was part of it for 14 years bud. They’re not your friend either.

Based. Only reason I use linux is because the terminal is better and shit like npm just works. If I could get modern js stuff working better on windows I wouldn't leave windows. I work with vs 90% of the time already anyway.

Okay nice. I think i just wont update it ever until apps break which they shouldnt. Any important project/files will be automatically backuped to external drive anyway.
Ive installed it now on muh dell precision m4800, but it seems theres no wifi driver/adapter. What do?

Everything works now, one more question, is it possible to have external monitor @ 120hz?

>Everything works now, one more question, is it possible to have external monitor @ 120hz?
Yes. Connect the monitor, open the menu, type display and modify the entries accordingly.
>>
>>93673487
Depends, how new is your hardware?
I'm >>93668423 and with my CPU and GPU, everything just works out of the box.
But my laptop, on which I installed Mint just the other day, has an AMD iGPU and an nVidia dGPU. I've only tinkered around a tiny bit, but that was not yet enough for me to get glmark2 to run on the nVidia dGPU.
Otherwise, Blender, GIMP and Audacity I can assure are available as repository (which you should prefer if you can live with not having bleeding edge updates) packages or otherwise as flatpaks.
My recommendation is to install on it on a spare SATA SSD, if you happen to have one lying around.
>>
>>93673622
How nice that even if that were true, in Mint YOU can just tell the operating system you don't want the update.
That being said, I usually wait a week after they've become available before updating and also if I have an hour or two to spare in case something does go wrong.

The thumbnails showing isn't all of it. On windows I can scroll anywhere, double click a file and it opens instantly. On linux it takes a loong time to open the file, like it has to iterate through every previous one to finally get to the one I clicked on.

Whoever cracks this problem on linux wins the desktop war instantly.
>>
>>93674120
Sounds like you're using NTFS on Linux.
I symlinked a Windows game to WINE, it worked, but saving the game took a full five seconds.
After replacing the symlink with an actual copy on an ext4 partition, it's instantaneous.
While NTFS does work on Linux, it's performance is abyssmal.

Because it is to Debian(Ubuntu) what Manjaro is to Arch, Frankendebian abomination that has had it's fair share of controversies in the past. Only difference is that they managed to pool the wool over people's eyes compared to Manjaro.

What's the appeal to Mint when all the *buntus exist? It's literally just an unnecessary extra layer on top of OS that already just werks. Even Debian kinda just werks nowadays.

I'm using it currently, but I used vanilla Gnome for a while and ended up getting used to it. Going back to a more Windows-like DE feels weird to me now.
>>
>>93682474
mint is more like megapozzed *buntu, and *buntu would be pozzed debian

Mint is fantastic. It was my first Linux distribution (MATE edition) and I stuck with it for four years.

But two months ago I realized I'm running i3 on mint and mostly using command line utilities, which made me question why am I on Mint at this point? There's was an enormous amount of packages that shipped with the distribution that I no longer have any need for.
I was more than comfortable enough with configuring my system so I decided it's time to move on to Debian. I installed it without a DE, slapped Xorg and i3 on top and that's where I'm at now.

The whole system with basic utilities like mpv, firefox, krita and such was more or less 5Gb.
>>
>>93682643
>which made me question why am I on Mint at this point?
Distros aren't things you need to migrate around to because you got used to an "easy" one. Most can do the same sorts of things as other ones.
>There's was an enormous amount of packages that shipped with the distribution that I no longer have any need for.
And?
>The whole system with basic utilities like mpv, firefox, krita and such was more or less 5Gb.
Do you have any need for a system to be as small as possible or have you just been memed by retards?
>>
>>93665804

Because Xubuntu exists, and I don't want a version of Debian that has been repackaged twice.

I installed it on two different PC’s to use with my tv for media. It very randomly on both pc’s will randomly lock up and the last 1-2s of audio will repeat over and over and over until I force an unexpected reboot. Going back to Debian.
