What's your media server setup like, /g/?I'm currently using Emby but I'm tired of it begging me to upgrade to their paid subscription.
everything is automated and it all feeds to jellyfin
>>92176596if you care about keeping your data private, jellyfin, if you dont, plex. If you want a highly customizable personal use server, jellyfin. if you want a polished ux you can share with others, plex.
rtorrent > sonarr/radarr/lidarr > jellyfin
>>92176596I just use free Plex, werks fine for meHosting it on a Synology DS220 w/ sonarr to automatically download & sort all the TV episodes I don't feel like paying for
>>92176667*qbtorrent
jellyfin because i don't like to get my home machine hacked and my lastpass fucked
i've set up both jellyfin and plex and mostly use them with an apple tv 4k.i usually use swiftfin, unless the files are something that isn't recognized by either like japanese titles or hdr files, then i use plex which has an other videos category that can be handy.jellyfin is set up to use the hardware encoders on my dual core jasper lake, so if i'm away and want to watch something my choice is jellyfin.downloads are qbittorrent on the server and electorrent on my pc.
gigachad kodi + real debrid streaming user vs virgin plex user
>>92176596I run a plex media server on my main machine and access it through kodi on my pie, it works, no ads, no retarded shit, it just works, can't complain
>>92176632>>92176655>>92176667>>92176872>>92176891>jellyfin has no TV app>needs a third party digital device to work on TVsthis is why I use samba (if the TV has the right codec decoders) or plex (if the TV does not).
>>92177437imagine using apps on your tv, how retarded. your tv should be hooked to your computer and you should be using the jellyfin mpv shim. solved.
>>92177545>has only 1 tv>hooks their tv up via hdmi or something similar and not via ethernet.what is it like being poor?
when you set up jellyfin/anything else with all the differente -arrs, are they supposed to be separate from each other? like if I want to download a movie, I need to look it up in radarr before it gets indexed by jellyfin?
>>92177437jellyfin has lots of tv apps
Network share.Every device on my home can open media from it
Hydrus and everything is perfectly tagged like an obsessed autist.
>>92177437>jellyfin has no TV appare you fucking dumb or just a bad liar? you use a web browser and when you play a video you use mpv via the mpv shim, I JUST mentioned this
>>92178908how many times are you going to respond to the same post as if it was a new one, getting angrier and angrier?
>>92176596emby is the worst of the media servers:>closed source like plex>paid features like plex>unpolished like jellyfin>lacking functionality and frontends like jellyfin>janky as fuck like kodiits truly the worst of all worlds.use jellyfin if you want a free media server, use plex if you want a polished media server. both are miles ahead of emby.
>>92178997you're fucking dumb and a bad liar, you just cannot stop replying. fag
I couldn’t get vpn split tunneling / localhost accessibility working with Jellyfin, but it works with Plex for whatever reason so I’m a Plex pleb nowI don’t do any on the fly transcoding, only direct play. If there are compatibility issues with devices I transcode ahead of time and just direct stream that. I don’t have a dedicated server just yet so I have it running on a windows host. Would it be better to run TrueNAS(or equivalent) in a VM and pass the drives through?
>>92177437Jellyfin has a nice Android app for TVs. Works well with those cheap ass Google Chromecast TV sticks.
>>92176596New media is trash so I rarely download anything nowadays, If I need to, I do it manually. I've just got an extensive collection of old stuff. I use Kodi, MPD, a NAS and wireguard.
What am I missing here? I just use smb file share in windows to watch content on my shield, why use Plex? Aesthetic?
External hard drive plugged into a low power HTPC that’s plugged into a TV. I then use an exotic management solution called “folders” to organize and access any desired media.
>>92179598>I then use an exotic management solution called “folders” to organize and access any desired media.I am a zoomer, what are these folders you are talking about, ive never heard of them.
>>92179593yes if you don't want to use any media server features then you don't need a media server
Plex, running on my desktop, playback on Roku box. I only use it to play music/TV/movies in my living room, so no need for their paid tier.
>>92179593The Plex front-end is very pretty. I also use its DLNA function to stream my FLAC collection to my AVR/sound system in the living room.
>>92179593Think of it as your own personal Netflix that let's you watch your media on any device locally or remotely, complete with metadata and progress trackingI don't understand how people can still deal with folder faggotry and samba. Do you guys just watch everything on a single ThinkPad?
>>92179184I just run a Windows machine with updates disabled
>>92180151I watch content at home only on my shield in my living room with vlc. I don't feel like it's inconvenient really. Simple though, definitely not as pretty.
>>92176596I have an encrypted Wasabi bucket which charges no egress fees. I then have a compute instance with Vultr that mounts the bucket using Rclone that Plex accesses.Costs me less than $40/m all up so far. Close friends and family access it, though I don't allow transcoding, which isn't actually needed because I only add compatible formats and everyone's internet is fast enough.
thinkcentre m725s / R7 2700 / 64G running plex on docker (and other stuff) with nvidia T600 for extra transcoding and PR4100 filled with wd golds 10T in raid5
>>92177333Fuck Kodi + Fen + Real Debrid>>>> Jellyfin or PlexBut I have my Jellyfin for my family and friends so we can watch movies together
>>92176596Thought about setting up a plex box. Currently just leave shit on my seedbox for the season until I archive it on my offline NAS.My HTPC is just a W10 M900 Tiny plugged into the TV with a chinesium wireless remote that has a keyboard on one side and does the wiimote thing to control the mouse. Really easy to dump shit on. KDE connect makes it easy to control from any machine if I don't feel like using the cheap remote.
I have a Windows box with 6 drives on it. I have Plex running on it alongside PIA, qBittorrent, Radar, Sonnar, and Prowlarr.Radarr and Sonarr are configured behind a DDNS configuration that have passworded protection to let me access them from NzbDrone from my phone to pick up new shows on the go. Just add the show and the rest of it handles the logistics.Plex has a webhook integration with radarr/sonarr which auto refreshes when new things are added.I access Plex from my phone (and Chromecast), computer (Windows client), and TV (LG WebOS built in). It's comfy as fuck. Had the setup for around 5-6 years at this point.
>>92182094now that's a nice hassle free easymodo setup
I'm running plex on a 2012 i5 macbook pro over 802.11g wifi to an older roku box. This handles most files fine, but some higher bitrate 1080p files fail after attempting to play for a few seconds. What is the issue here, network speed? Or computer power? I don't have ethernet cables long enough to connect both devices to the router so I haven't tested that yet
>>92182789no gpu btw
>>92182094Biggest pain point of Windows for me has been pooling drives together. I seed long term and don't want storage usage doubled from Radarr/Sonarr copying torrents, but I'm currently using Stablebit DrivePool which doesn't support hardlinking. Do you have a solution for this, or is a single drive big enough for one or more media types for you? Would Storage Spaces be better?
>>92176596I use Jellyfin with the *arrs (and other things) managed through docker compose, all behind a Traefik reverse proxy docker container. I can access my stuff from anywhere that has internet access, it's pretty nice. I have a lifetime Plex pass but I prefer Jellyfin, Plex has been going in a weird direction.

>>92180151>complete with metadataI have no use for metadata, just a single video file with optional subtitles and additional language tracks baked in is enough for me.>progress trackingI know what I've seen. Do you also own a smartfridge cause you're too retarded to remember what's in it?
>>92184986>roku>google>anroid tvkys! trooner.
>>92182789Why can't you take the Macbook to the router?
>>92185026You seem upset over people enjoying an objectively superior media watching experience
>>92180932funny to see the kodi streaming addons treadmill is still going. when i quit using kodi a few years back there was a new exodus fork every few months.
>>92186808Pretty sure most people are only using Kodi for bootleg streamingboxes for Asian and Indian TV

>>92176596>What's your media server setup like, /g/?Free Plex, with over 1tb of movies and TV shows I got about 10 years ago.And they are all in 720p or 1080p so I dont even watch them nowadays because it looks like shit. Im thinking about nuking it and starting over, or stopping altogether. No friends or family ever gave a shit about it despite me begging them to use it.Kind of sad really, they would ask me to put things on it in the beginning to appease me, but would never actually watch anything.
