Well, ideally it lasts forever. I am not sure what a reasonable expectation to have for OLED is. If I can use the monitor daily for, say, ~4-5 years, then I wouldn't mind paying around $1000. To give some frame of reference, I bought a $500 monitor two years ago and while it still works just fine, I'm considering upgrading to 4k and thus am looking to replace it.

I understand it won't last forever, that's my concern. It seems to be luck of the draw and some people have a monitor that lasts 3 months and others go years before experiencing any issues. I don't want to have to replace the monitor in a year if it's gonna cost me a grand. Like I said, if I can expect about 4 years out of it, that'd be enough to warrant a $1000 purchase. Does that seem fair, or is this wishful thinking?

The only reason today to make a new 5800X3D build is if you play games that really benefit from the cache. If it's just a general gaming rig you'd be better off with a 13600K or 7600X.

>How can I tell if a motherboard has the ability to flash a new BIOS without a CPU installed?
Go on the product page and read the specs. Look for USB BIOS Flashback (ASUS), Q-Flash Plus (GB), Flash BIOS Button (MSI), or Bios Flashback (ASRock). Alternatively, look for a little button labelled "BIOS" or something on the rear IO.

Finally, if you're in the US, the MSI B550-A PRO is back down to MSRP. It was the go-to midrange board for Zen3. Has flashback and does a bit of everything else. Since the low end of B550 has shot up in price you might as well spend the extra $30 if you really insist on the X3D.

my old pc died (pretty sure it was cpu and/or mb)
microcenter has a deal going on: buy a 7000 cpu, and get free ddr5-6000 32gb and -20$ from any mb
so, it was the perfect time to revive my dead pc and also upgrade to a ddr5 system
i reused everything but with a new cpu, mb and cooler (360mm aio instead of air)

instant regret when i learned 7000 cpus hog a fuckton of power and run 95c... by design.
not trying to speedrun destroying my computer again
but learning about pbo and eco mode made it not so bad?

by default, it scores 29k on cinebench, while melting itself at 95c
with 105w eco mode, -30 curve optimizer, it scores 28.7k, capping it to 85c, but it only ran up to 70c

Play the Halo games in release order. MCC is always going on sale for $15 and most of the games are easily worth that price. Bungie stopped making the games in 2010, 343 crapped out Halo 4 a couple years later and it may as well be a different game. Halo 5 manages to be a little better/worse than 4 depending on the person, but it's really more of the same so you can easily skip it. Infinite is like 5 with a thin layer of 3 and Reach on top that was used to trick real Halo fans into thinking Infinite would be an actual attempt to a return to form. 343 literally used the already battered Halo fanbase in order to hype Infinite up. They're all unrepentant bastard SJWs and nepotistic faggots who deserve the rope. Truly some of the worst people to ever live.

I did, except 4 which isn't on PC. It's same exact games. I didn't understand what the fuss was about when first Halo came out, I still do not understand it. I have a feeling people play those games differently to me, I basically run like in DOOM 2016 when playing it because it allows me to. It's probably harder to do on console though.

At least I'm not the only one who knows Reach was the beginning of the end. Bungie screwed up and 343 kept screwing up by following the path Bungie started. Old Bungie made ODST and moved onto Destiny, while Reach was mostly made by the post Halo 3 hires.

I don't even want the 4/5/Infinite leads to be at 343 in positions without any influence. They need to be completely removed, and preferably blacklisted from the video game industry.

Has anyone tried to lock his games at 40FPS on a 120Hz display? How is it? When I set my resolution to 1440p and lower my refresh rate is 120Hz by default (LG 55B2)
>>
>>91109297
I just know the guy. I think he's happy to do something else, honestly. Working on the same game year after year can't be fun
>>
>>91109316
I do it for Cyberpunk RT and Forspoken. Locked 40fps is better than having it judder around between 40-60. Your GPU is also much quieter as well. I believe it only works well if your displays freesync range actually hits 40hz or lower. Some start at like 48hz meaning you need a 48fps cap.
>>

>I'm a faggot! With my mind, haha!
>>
>>91109344
I do have the FreeSync and VRR. my TV can go down to 40Hz according to the AMD
>>
>>91109354
Then should be fine setting a cap with rivatuner or driver
>>
>>91109365
I use RivaTuner, thanks
I hope Hitman III and Elden Ring do well at 40Hz
>>
>>91109371
if the game has bad framepacing issues to begin with then the cap wont help much. for example unreal engine 4 games that stutter everytime you load a new chunk.
>>
>>91109316
I've only done that on my Steam Deck. It should be fine at 120Hz as well since it's a multiple of the FPS. If you have variable refresh rate then there's no real need to lock FPS to 40 though, you shouldn't get judder or tearing no matter what. 40FPS in general feels much better than 30 but obviously not as good as 60 or beyond. For a device like a Deck it's a potentially worthy target since you always have to balance performance and battery life, on a desktop PC I don't think it's worth bothering with unless you are running without VRR, in which case 40FPS at 120Hz may feel a bit better than slightly higher FPS but with either judder or tearing.
>>
>>91109396
40hz is where the VRR range begins for most panels hence the 40 FPS. below that VRR turns off.

>>91109411
That is not true for modern screens as far as I know, maybe if you have an ancient panel that can only do 40-60Hz or something. Modern/decent screens with high refresh rate should all support low frame rate compensation, as in if the current FPS is below the minimum VRR refresh rate the frame will simply be displayed twice and the screen effectively runs at double refresh rate, i.e. if you're running 35FPS on a screen with 40-120Hz VRR it will actually run at 70Hz and display each frame twice.

This was an issue with very early FreeSync stuff and with GSync screens which didn't support high refresh rate. I'd be surprised to learn that any modern high refresh panel doesn't support LFC.

I can't notice any difference whatsoever between 1440p and 1080p. 4K is noticeable but still nowhere near as noticeable as going from 60Hz to 144Hz, that's like night and day.

>>91109942
The 4070 Ti cannot run most 3A titles on ultra 1440p144fps. You'll only get a butter smooth 144fps experience at 1080p. Then again it all depends on whether you prefer higher resolution or higher refresh rate, if you can't notice the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz then go for 1440p60fps.

Honestly I think all of the big partner brands are good, avoiding the shady AliExpress brands. EVGA was arguably the best but since they cut off with Nvidia I'd say PNY for best value and Gigabyte for best performance. I became a PNY fanboy ever since I entered enthusiast territory, their cards are surprisingly very solid for overclocking, you can match the performance of a Gigabyte model that's considerably more expensive and still maintain sub80 temps.

>Also I made the pipes go down because someone said it was bad to go up for some reason.
your friend misunderstood a gamers nexus video.
the problem was that the pump block on AIOs mounted incorrectly would be above the top of the radiator which would mean the bubble would end up in the pump instead of the radiator, which means the pump would "run dry" and wear out faster and make a lot of noise otherwise.
it was probably fine the way it was but it likely looks neater with hoses at the bottom.

true but its the only standard we have, Intel tried BTX which inverted the motherboard so the cpu was at the bottom and PCIe slots were at the top with the power supply but naturally because everyone already has ATX it never caught on.

Is this MSI specific level of retardation or all motherboard manufacturers that stupid?
By default my motherboard came with CPU core voltage set to auto which went as high as 1.225v. This resulted in my 13600k thermal throttling even with an Arctic Freezer II 360 and lowered performance. Max CPU package power reached around 245w in Cinebench.

I manually lowered it to 1.135v for now and
>CPU package power went down to 171w from 245w
>max temp went down to 78 from 100 and throttling
>Cinebench score improved and is now more in line with review scores of the CPU

And this wasn't even the highest default profile in BIOS, I wonder what it'd do if I set it to "water cooler" with the 4096w power limit.
I'll try to do some OC later now that I have some headroom.

i thought i wanted solid side panels, i really did. but once given the option i went for a glass panel. why? mainly because solid panels look boring. i've used them all my life and they're just boring now. nothing interesting about looking at a brick.

i don't even use any RGB or have a particularly showy system.
but it's just nice to properly cablemanage and have a clean looking system. it's also nice to be able to see the inside of your case without having to open it. you can see the dust build up if there is any, you can see which fans are having what issues, so on and so forth.

oh that one's normal, all boards do that as far as I know. 3200 mhz XMP is technically overclocking and you're not actually guaranteed it will work with all mobo/RAM combos even if both technically support it. 2400mhz is a jedec profile and it will always work.

Stock voltages are pretty much the same across all motherboard brands because intel dictates the default spec. There's a lot of voltage headroom because the chip must be stable in all sorts of loads including y-cruncher and prime95, and have an additional voltage margin on top of that to account for temps, aging, and operating environments etc.
>>

Holy shit this might have fixed it. Results have significantly improved, sure it's not 500+ like what it should be. I won't know until I plug the drive back in as C drive on original PC to test if things run normal now and my PC doesn't brick anymore. How the fuck did that fix it? The one on the left is better.

I would make a change though. Change the CPU side to intake and the CPU fans cooler to intake direction.

This way both GPU and CPU are getting fresh air and the hot air being exhausted out the top.

Otherwise the CPU cooler will be sucking in hot air from the gpu on the way out.

I'm losing my mind.
I went full retard and updated my BIOS - PC wouldn't POST anymore. Bought a new CPU that was compatible with the BIOS version I just put on but it still wouldn't POST. I assumed I must have bricked the motherboard at some point so I bought a new motherboard that is compatible with this new CPU and has a flashback function.
Still won't POST.
Tried it out the box, tried flashing the last listed supported BIOS for my CPU, tried the latest BIOS version. None worked.
Tried removing the battery several times between checks.
Tried two USBs to flash with (yes they are MBR and FAT32).
Tried flashing, switching off, resetting the battery and then switching on again.
Tried no RAM, one stick of RAM.
Tried with and without GPU (don't have integrated graphics but I can hear nothing changes even without the GPU in to check).
All SATA cables removed from motherboard.
Pins and plugs all in properly and in the right places (unless it matters which way around power SW and CH go).
The BIOS flashback is going through and succeeding (light flashes for a while then goes off).

Current mobo is ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS - no doubt I have the right one for BIOS versions.
Current CPU is Ryzen 3 4100.

In case I'm wrong, when I say no POST, I mean power is supplied but nothing happens. Fans come on, USB devices simply light up and I hear no beep codes. It makes the same sounds it made everytime I booted it up for the past few years but nothing comes up on the display.

I've checked so many places and guides and support and I'm sure there's something real fucking stupid I'm missing. Help.

A single PCI-E plug on PSU side is rated at 300W but on the GPU side it's only rated for 150W.
If you have two separate cables there is no reason to use single daisy chained cable instead. But you won't damage anything either way.
>>

Right, so none of my sticks work even when put in the recommended slot.
Turns out, none of my RAM sticks are listed on the memory support for my motherboard. If it's not there does that really mean they won't work or that they just didn't test them? Because my model numbers are close just not the same.

I guess I don't mind buying new RAM just to see if it works. It's not much more money than I've already spent but is that probably the problem then?

Still haven't tried HWInfo64 but I put the drive into the original PC and ran CrystalDiskMark. It was running slow as fuck during the test and from pic related you can see disk is at 100% in Task Manager which is strange because using the software on my good PC and the disk usage doesn't go above 40% but that is a better PC so maybe it's that. I edited the results of the CrystalDiskMark in and now the speeds are slower, 300 something instead of 400 but it's still better than 200 something. I assumed the Disk running at 100% had something to do with it so on the slow PC I opened up powershell and did the same thing again:
>Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter F -ReTrim -Verbose in admin powershell
I redid the CrystalDiskMark test, the Disk usage in Task manager did not go to 100%, it stayed at 50% or below which means my PC wasn't being slow but the read and write speeds from the test are the same, in the 300s

If the bios update fails then the boot process getting stuck on Dram is possible. Stupidly I just saw one of the "fixing someones broken gaming pc" video where some dude tried updating the bios but got a black screen. Did everything as suggested, fans would run, it would turn on but just no screen. Then saw the Dram led on and switched to new ram, still nothing worked. Even with a new cpu ti didn't work. Ended up being the mobo being partly bricked due to the update. My suggestion try with different ram, maybe try the cpu but it could be the mobo that's the culprit.
>>
>>91113149
>the mobo that's the culprit
It's brand new. Still a possibility, I suppose.
I had already tried different RAM sticks.
The BIOS update isn't failing as far as I can see. The light flashes for a while and then goes off as it should. A failure in flash in supposed to result in a solid light staying on which never happened.
