Fortunately macOS is garbage, even Windows is better, so this cannot kill anything.
There is time to be a doomer tho, because this is just the another repeated reminder that people don't give a shit about upgrades or repairability, and they'll happily replace their hardware every other year and there is just more money to be made if you do things like Apple does.

Normal people think otherwise. I'm already ordering it as we speak.

This was cringe but the intended audience will literally never notice. Even an enthusiast could go a long time without noticing. Disks are way too fast at the moment, not in an eat the bugs kind of way but in a good luck making it matter way. And if you got a sku anyone would actually buy you got 2 chips in parallel which gave you the old speed back. Not an apple guy and people have a right to know but it's not really that big of a deal.

that's what i do with my studio. I learned and came up in final cut pro so getting the machine that can run it the fastest is great for me. sure, you guys can show me numbers about nvidia/ayymd being faster all you want but outside of a shitty hackintosh deal, i can't run FCP. i don't mind paying for the mac for my workflow. I had a 2018 top spec macbook pro and the studio annihilates it for the work i need to do, so i'm happy with it.

$622 for as close as I could get but the RAM is significantly worse--single-channel and 400MT/s slower. M2 is 6400MT/s and triple-channel. Also the GPU is probably a little to 2x better in the M2. The value is there, the only question is whether you can actually get work done (or even stand to use in the first place) MacOS, considering that Asahi Linux still isn't done after 2.5 years and Linux on ARM in general is pretty sub-optimal.

Uh, so? That's nothing. That chart is obviously bullshit, I've written about 3PB to my Crucial MX300 275GB (chart says it should be dead already) and it says it still has 88% health remaining. SSDs last longer than hard drives, even the bad ones that are slower than hard drives.

but those arent an operating system.

Linux is free as in you are free to use it however you see fit. If I want to set up 20 computers at work to do things for commercial gain I am free to do that with Linux without restriction.

MacOS is not free. if you install pirated MacOS on 20 computers at a business, you are liable to get sued. Not to mention, you dont have access to the source code to modify it. and even if you want to modify things without the source code, you are not allowed to

You do know that MacOS is free, right? Like, actually. It's just free. Not pseudo-free like Windows, just free. You do not have to pay to download and install it. Period. It's free to use, legally. Using it on non-Macs simply isn't supported.

Wrong. Using it on non-Mac hardware violates the ToS. Even if you managed to install it and get it working, Apple will do everything in their power to remotely disable or corrupt your install to make you stop. and if you do this for monetary gain, Apple *will* sue you

Go try selling PCs with MacOS installed and see how well that works for you.

yeah, the M2 beats the 5600, but not by much (about 10% in multicore), but I preferred to trade some CPU performance for a massive GPU advantage over the M2 (the 6600 has over 3X the GPU performance of the M2)
