Anyone have a recommedation for a replacement battery for an x240? Seems like the prices on ebay vary quite a bit, not sure what I'm to be looking for.

The case and keyboard are redesigned, but the overall form factor is comparable.>good battery lifeEverything starting with X240 switched from M-series to U-series CPUs, dropping the average TDP from ~35W to ~15W. Effectively, newer laptops draw about half the power. Combine this with the battery bridge system (which the X270 was the last to have) and a 9-cell external battery and you're looking at 10-12 hours of use on a single charge.>can run a VMNo experience here, but if my old X220 could do it I see no reason this shouldn't be able to. However, if you will be using VMs frequently, it may be worth getting an X280 instead. You lose out on a bit of battery and some ports, BUT the X280 has quad-core CPU configurations available that should be a huge boon for virtualization. I believe the X280 has a new smaller/lighter case as well.X270s are also good because you can find them at a good price. I suppose most people either want the "old school" X220/X230 or the "new and shiny" X280; I picked up mine with 1080p IPS display, 256gb NVMe SSD, and 9-cell battery for $190. Lots of models were affected (everything around t480 generation) and all chips were slowly burning untill the Bugfix was installed. So some units might be close to failure in one way or another if they received the fix late. That being said. It's a relatively large chip that can be replaced with basic to mediocre soldering skills.

Is there a good way to actually use the trackpoint? Do any of you guys use the trackpoint exclusively for mouse control? I want to use it, because it's practically the whole point of the thinkpad, but it just feels unnatural. Especially when I have to scroll the page. I naturally want to use the 2-finger-slide to scroll the page, but if I use the trackpoint I have to go down to the trackpad. Why even bother using the trackpoint when I'm reaching for the trackpad all the time anyway?
When I got an X230 to cope with my X220's dated iGPU, I ended up liking the chiclet keyboard a whole lot more than the classic keyboard.I feel like you guys larped this whole time saying chiclet was shit, what the fuck?

Just wanted to say thanks. I learned about Thinkpads here. Picked up the T420 back in 2016, upgraded it to an i7 2820QM, more RAM, and finally upgraded to a nice FHD screen in 2020 (AUO B140HAN01_3). It still performs decently for web browsing and light programming, even running Windows 10. Not bad for a machine released 12 years ago!Anyone have experience with the parts from AliExpress? Like this palm rest/keyboard bezel, for example.
11e chromebook feels nice and compact aside from the trackpad feeling loose. also old school runescape runs like shit on it. but as long as it runs mGBA it should be fine. any anons here have thinkpads purely for emulation?

Most of the time the don;t come with any film or adhesive that comes on the stock plastic, so you'll either have to find a replacement or go without. If your palmrest has just a little shiney then you probably shouldn't go for new plastics, but if the texture is noticeably different than it'll probably be an upgrade.

Please take my advice.T14 is good, though I recommend you get the 3rd generation AMD variant as they have 16:10 (once you go 16:10, you start to hate the older 16:9 models), 6000 series AMD are more power efficient and the iGPU's are very good. For T14, I do not recommend Intel, battery life is just terrible and each generation it gets worse because Intel would rather nuke your battery than lose to AMD in performance.I do not like the newer X1 Carbon's, the only X1 Carbon I recommend is the 6th gen (2018) with the QHD HDR LCD. T480 is also good, it has larger potential battery capacity and you can also swap in the HDR LCD from the X1 Carbon.Disregarding the T14s since it is retarded to get an -s variant after 2013.
>>91145023Thanks, that's helpful. So you're saying T14 is my best bet with a Ryzen? What year is the third gen?

I just did a motherboard swap on my X270 and now it won't boot into the OS (Linux with GRUB). It finds the drive and all SSD diagnostics pass but when I try to boot it just takes me back to the menu. >>91159828that's nice. i got a p51 during the summer because my crappy ideapad laptop was breaking and i "needed" a new one now. if i were to waitfag a little bit i would get a p52, because the temps on this thing are absolutely insane. i'm getting as much as 86 celsius just browsing the web, and that's with an undervolted cpu. i don't know why the hell would they make a workstation that throttles itself just by using 50% of the cpu for a bit. other than that, i love the thing but it's kinda redundant now that the p52 goes for the same priceother than gayming though, it's been pretty good for video editing and shit like that

>>91160001I would almost unironically push the Legion 7 over the P51. Like browsing, typing, watching a movie, doing normal whatever, blasting music on my player, etc....it stays cool to the touch. Play Cyberpunk or MWII and you will hear the fan blasting and it will start getting like super warm. Like you would need Nomex gloves at thaat point. Yet it renders decently and edits pretty good. I really don't game that much. And when I do, it is in spurts. Also has a decent camera if you gotta zoom assholes or whatever. They keyboard is not like the x220 but is certainly serviceable. I can type fairly fast on it. The keys DO light up RGB unless you turn that faggot shit off. I mean....Most people think it is a churched up Dell or some shit. I do wish they would make like a Legion but with a trackpoint. It doesn't totally replace a Thinkpad, like I haven't tried to put Linux on it or anything. So keep a few good Thinkpads in reserve for when Civil War II pops off. I got it for like a solid grand plus a few bills. Now it WILL go to 64 GB. I manually upgraded mine as it does NOT have soldered RAM. I mean look into it. I like mine.
