New releases: RTX 4090; AM5 / Zen 4; Intel Arc GPUs A770 and A750
RTX 4080 16GB (AD103) $1200 Nov Launch; RTX "4080" 12GB (AD104) unlaunched
Raptor Lake: K SKUs released + reviewed

>CPUs
For light usage, consider an Intel i3 or Ryzen 3/G.
For gaming, consider an Intel i5 (K if you want overclocking) or a Ryzen 5.
For multithreaded performance, consider an Intel i7 or a Ryzen 9. Get a Threadripper for heavy-duty workloads.
Avoid Zen4 (Ryzen 7000 series) - massively overpriced motherboards and poor-performing DDR5.

>GPUs
For gaming, check out the benchmarks for whatever games you play and pick whatever performs best.
For productivity, you will want to buy a Nvidia Card for CUDA, nvenc, better software support in general.

Need a quick reply.
ASUS GeForce TUF RTX 3070 O8G V2 Gaming

Should i get that one?
>>
Would it be stupid to upgrade a 3600 hundred? Just the CPU?
>>
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/WhBhJM

Everything marked with a price is what I've purchased recently.
Everything marked at $0 is what I already own.

Is there anything left I should do? I'm obviously not upgrading my GPU until the prices correct.

From the other thread
Last question. Am I being a cheapscape for considering the 5700x or is it a solid upgrade? I can afford the 5900 but just thibking since the rest of my computer is old maybe the 5700 is better value? For reference my CPU is very often running at 90+% currently
>>
>>89949885
you mean upgrade from a 3600x? to what? if you asking for recommendations then just update bios and get a 5800x3d i guess
>>
Can I use a Ryzen 7950X without a cooler if I'm just doing web browsing on Windows 11? Will it throttle?

I need to wait for Noctua to send me a new AM4/5 mounting bracket from Austria before I can use my NH-D15S but I still want to assemble and use my new build, at least for light tasks.
>>
>>89949885
depends on your gpu/the gpu you plan to upgrade to
if you're upgrading to another ddr4 system now's probably the cheapest it's ever going to be
if you're upgrading to a ddr5 system it's probably going to be cheaper and better later in a couple of years
>>

They just downgrade the link speed. It's not an issue until RTX 3090 Ti at the very least, so you probably have nothing to worry about it. May be a bad more for the RTX 5080 which I plan to buy. I'm setting aside $1900 for it.

they drop to pcie 3.0, its not a big deal yet.
most GPUs are 16 lanes and manage fine with 3.0 still, even the 4090 is still okay.
you kneecap your nvme speeds but unless you're transferring movie files between nvmes it wont matter yet because directstorage wont be out until next year, even then pcie 3.0 is more than fine.

This is a really complicated topic. If you don't want to research it, get one of these. And the thickness is critical. Research which ones your card needs. Thermalright TFX is hard to work with but it's the ideal paste. You warm up the syringe in a bag in water, and apply a thick layer with credit card.

To use a TB4 display with a desktop you either aren't using a dedicated graphics card or need a DisplayPort IN port on your mobo.
The amount of mobos that support such a feature are vanishingly small and also require you to do some incredibly obnoxious cable routing where you route the displayport cable from the back i/o into your case again.

Is there such thing as a 1080p color accurate monitor that is 144hz?
>>
>>89950367
First part is true
Poor-performing DDR5 is outdated info/pure cope at this point. High-end DDR5 beats the best DDR4 memory in any test. But you're paying like 300 extra fucking dollars for a 5% performance uplift in the majority of applications since most aren't RAM-intensive when you could just sink that money into a better processor instead.
That being said bottom-tier DDR5 still performs better than most DDR4 and is only slightly more expensive right now.

>>89950367
microcenter has deals that make it affordable even a great deal (a 16gb kit of 5600 with a 7600X and a free 32gb 5600 kit with the 7700X, 7900X and 7950X), DDR5 performance doesn't really matter all that much.
the 7950X is objectively the better choice for multicore over the 13900K.
its pretty much a half truth.

at the moment Zen4 has been discounted and AM5 motherboard prices are finally dropping below $200, if you're near a microcenter its objectively better value than building Intel.
if you're not its a good alternative until the CPU prices go back up.

it will happen on every modern cpu

Honestly, the motherboards (aside from the crazy overclocking boards) have come down in price. There are options below $300 and those boards will be viable for 5+ years. Part of the reason they are so expensive is because AMD basically guaranteed that you'd only have to buy it once every five years if you stay within their ecosystem.

Should have mentioned the 2070 Super is a mostly a placeholder while I wait around for a good deal on an actual card, I don't expect to have great performance for the time being. I'll look into a set of 2x16 3600 RAM, and is there a particular reason to go with Meshify C over the Corsair 4000D airflow? They seem mostly the same with Corsair being slightly cheaper.

just ordered a lg c2 42 for 1315 aud (roughly 890 usd)
what price are you guys getting in the states, our tech sector is so shitty but im okay with that price

now i need to build a decent computer to run it with, i was thinking 7600x with whatever card will perform adequately (say 60 fps maybe having some settings adjusted) with the knowledge next year im going to get an x3d cpu upgrade and if 4090s price drops or is actually at msrp, though im going to wait till the 7000s numbers come out, but in the meanwhile id like a suggestion for a last gen card to tide me over till upgrading

I enjoy my skullcandy hesh 2.
they aren't crazy comfortable, but I have an external amp (I can increase the volume of the audio beyond the system's limit), and I play audio with the headset on my desk by increasing the volume when I don't care about other people hearing what I am listening to (I mainly put on my headset for games or music).
been doing this for 2 years, but it's probably not too good for your phones (but it's not that loud, I have tinnitus and I generally listen to everything at a pretty low volume, so even when I accidentally forget to lower the volume before putting them on my ears, it's not that actually that loud)

I got a b550 and X670E with thunderbolt, I kind of want it to be a baseline on all of my PC's at this point. Feel like in 2022 every device should have a standard 40gbps port that can do display out, power, and data, ie USB4. Thunderbolt can do even more ie daisy-chaining, which USB4 should support but you know USB, always gotta be a tad murky. on itx boards it's hit or miss, it steals pcie lanes, and takes up a decent amount of space.

I have a ProArt b550 with gpu passthrough and then this X670E taichi with no passthrough, I don't see a functional difference in favor of dGPU passthrough. You lose the USB C port and the dp port, at least you can daisy-chain. On the Taichi the two USB 4 and HDMI port will output separately from the 4 dgpu displays, so 7 in total with Ryzen 700 and a good mobo. I am curious how it could handle 5K 120hz. Do you need to remove or disable the dgpu display out when using a thunderbolt display on Intel?

Hello, should I buy a set of CMT32GX5M2B5200C38 and a Z690 AORUS PRO for about $285?

I've checked and the board has had recent bios released that fix the ram issues, in case that's a concern. Is this a good idea to upgrade to 32GBs of ram? I don't think I can make it 2-3 years with 16GBs and as it currently stands, upgrading to DDR4 32GBs runs me about half of that price, and the other half I can make by selling my current mobo and sticks.

Is there a modern PSU tier list anywhere? I basically just want a solid 500-600W (I really really don't need more, I always undervolt my GPU and run the CPU with a lower power limit) that is dead silent.

We didn't really lose but we sure didn't gain much. Slightly cheaper monitors and cards finally at their MSRPs.

We're waking up from a long crypto nightmare and we have a long hangover ahead of us as Nvidia thrashes about trying to figure out what to do about their self-inflicted problems.

What’s the current meme cpu? Is Intel better buy this gen?
>>
>>89951467
At 1440p that isn't enough of a jump to be worth it. In some competitive games, with a high end card (3080 and over) you could see a decent jump, but in demanding games the difference will be unnoticably small.

tier 1: 6500xt vs 3050: 6500xt wins, half the price
tier 2: 6600 vs 3060: 6600 wins again on price but 3060 is solid and has 50% more vram
tier 3: 6600XT vs 3060ti: 6600XT wins again on price, same vram but if you need cuda it ain't a question.
Tier 4: 6800XT vs 3080/Ti: 6800XT wins on availability and price, if you need it to work, you know what you need at this level.
Tier 5: 7900XTX vs 4090: 4090 wins at everything by dp2.0, but 7900XTX will be $600 less.

On the high end, I am an unabashed Nvidia fan but on the mid-range and low end, I will shill AMD all day.

yea imo its worth the 100 extra bucks considering its great performance and features, but if youre on a budget and dont care about very high fps, ray tracing or 1440p or you wanna keep it budget then the 6600 xt is great too for 1060p60fps ultra settings

I mean you can find 6600xt for like $230...most 3060ti's are still over $400 msrp. 6700xt is like an exact match in performance for $50 less so that is the obvious equivalent.

ive seen 3060 ti's for 380,i think the 6700 xt is only really better if youre talking about raw performance and vram, it will definitely age better than a 3060 ti but for this generation the 3 kings are 6600xt, 3060 ti abd 3080 10gb, for best value and price to performance, bonus mention is the 6650xt if you find it for same price as a 6600xt

The AK400 is about 16€ more than the 212, which I'm getting for 33€. Is the performance that much better to justify the purchase? I could get a Deepcool AK400 like another post suggested (for an extra 8€), would that be better?

>>89949052
I was going to, but they sold out instantly. I can get the 12400 or 12600K(F) for 100€, and it doesn't seem worth it as I believe a 12400 can work with a 3060.

>>89949067
Yeah I assumed, but it's 33€, whereas an is about 80€ where I am. Seems like a 12400 comes with a shitty cooler so I assumed that a Hyper212 would be decent bang for the buck. 980 is a good deal yes, and the PSU is on sale, the gold one is 100€, whereas the platinum is 105€ so I might as well.

>>89949119
Previous CPU isn't very good, and since I'm moving soon I'm leaving my old PC to my brother. This PSU I wouldn't consider if it were at regular price but the deal seems good. Thank you for the PSU advice, I will seriously consider it.

>>89949259
>>89949347
I'm putting it into a mATX case, hence the mATX board. It isn't the newest, but it is easy to work with and didn't have airflow problems so far.

>>89949502
I did say that the prices on pcpartpicker don't really reflect the situation, but I did forget to post where I'm buying from. I'm getting the mobo I picked for about 130€ from Germany, and the one you suggested is about twice the price everywhere I can find it (don't know why). I have a mATX case from before, and it has been good while I used it. You are right about the slots, but I don't think I will need more than that for the next 5-6 years (probably). I'll swap the SSD, thank you.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll look around some more for any other deals.

So I’ve got some slice engineering boron nitride paste for my 3D printer hotend.. the thermal conductivity is 31.4 W/mK at 100 °C. Would this be a lot better to use than regular thermal paste for a cpu next time I do a build?
