>>
>>89944835
No. Unless being able to screen calls (by sending your call data to Google) is worth Google knowing whether you are sitting or walking or driving many times an hour (and that’s not even Maps, just the base Android OS).
>>
>>89945011
I'd put GrapheneOS on it

Google's spam call detection is top-tier.
>>
>>89944987
Better? Not really. More flexible in able to pirate apps and install arbitrary APKs, but not as good in terms of the base functionality. Plus how everything is dependent on Play Services and more and more is being bundled into it because OEMs won’t update the OS on their phones.
>>

You say that now, but wait until you realize how much of the functionality you take for granted is provided by Play Services on Android. You’ll be installing “sandboxed” Play Services and then bitching about how you now have a gimped version of the stock Pixel OS with very little benefit to privacy. Been there, done that

Unless you use literally 0 messaging apps and don’t care about getting push notifications, and talk to no one, Graphene just isn’t viable. Sure, if you just want a phone for calls and sms it could work, but so could a flip phone. Call screening? Google feature. Live translation? Needs Google services and only works on stock Pixel os. RCS? Only available on Google Messages and it needs access to your contacts which fails on Graphene. Etc, etc.
>>
>>89945155
I've been using LineageOS without Google Services for years barely even using MicroG.
>>

Hoping I can upgrade my ancient phone. I don't care about cameras or any of that extra shit all I want is something that can play games well and I can watch videos on while I'm sitting around for hours with nothing to do.
Max budget is 300 and I am from the US using Tmobile. Would also prefer android. I haven't thought about phones in years so I don't really know what's out there or whats good value these days can anyone point me in the right direction? I was looking at these motorola G/Edge/Power they seemed decent and in my price range but I don't know if it will do what I want or last me a while.

Get rid of microG or you’re not actually living sans Google.
>>89945285
>buys phone with ok hardware with the selling feature being Google botnet
>removes the main selling feature
Could use any old phone with a custom ROM and simply don’t add Google Services or a replacement. I would consider going for an Xperia 10 IV with Sailfish before a Pixel, which is much more interesting than Graphene or any other Android ROM, but it has most of the same limitations.
>no paying with your phone at shops
>certain bank/other apps and games will not work, or will not work without Google services, also can’t use any premium apps even if you already “own” them through the Play Store (again if you don’t give in to Big G)

iPhone 11 or iPhone SE 2022?
want to upgrade from a crappy old SE1.
>>
Looking to get a new phone and can't decide between an iphone 14 pro max, s22 utlra, or pixel 7 pro. Which do you guys recommend and why?
>>
>>89945913
>I don’t ever use Google Services but I sometimes use Google maps
Am I understanding correctly?
Are you confusing Google Play Services with Global Positioning Service (both abbreviated “GPS”)? Or do you try to avoid telling Google what you do unless you want to find a donair shop then HERE’S MY EXACT LOCATION SUNDAR PICHAI…? That would be funny.
>>
>>89945935
SE22

If you were fine with the original SE for so long, this new SE should be more than enough
>>
>>89945935
Hard decision, you can find tons of two+ year old 11s that people are upgrading from, but my mom has one and the battery is just above 80% and her two year AppleCare ran out. They only replace batteries for free if they are below that percentage

So a brand new SE22 might have equal or better battery than a degraded 11. You could get the battery replaced though, which would make the 11 have better battery (I think) but the main concern would be the design and physical/screen size. You’d reach a lot less on the SE, but 11 is better for videos, which is what more people are interested in.
>>
>on a Samsung S6 Edge plus
>fucking broken USB port
>always full storage
>can't do a proper backup
>battery fucked
>need to use wireless charging

It's time for a new one. I want to have a good value for money phone. ~500€, Germany, O2. Ideally a Samsung so I can transfer my shit more easily without much thought and hickups.

I've been looking at A52S, A53 (supposedly not as good as A52S?), S20FE, S21FE, but I'm open to suggestions. Ideally it would have a replaceable battery and micro SD slot, the latter being more important, but the XCover line, which does offer these features, has other issues I don't want to deal with. I also want decent battery life and performance, brightness, maybe a headphone jack.
>>
>>89946139
Definitely the A52s

If you used your S6 for so long then you clearly don't need the bleeding edge stuff, A52s has everything you want except for a replaceable battery but those are long gone on good modern phones
>>
>>89946044
No I use MicroG in order to use navigation apps like OsmAnd.
Because it can't find my location without using MicroG's location modules.
>>
>>89946242
I’m sure there’s an app for GPS that doesn’t require Google. Even Graphene sans Play Services can find your location - they can’t do “approximate” location using your IP, but can use actual GPS.
>>
>>89946139
Get the A52s like the other anon said. It has good battery, micro sd support, great performance, and better cpu than A53
Also it's a lot cheaper than €500
>>
>>89946235
Thanks anon. You're right. I'm really out of the loop, though. Can you give me more reasons? I thought maybe I could go for something a little more expensive and not worry about a replacement for a long ass time. Get more updates and stuff. Right now this phone I'm using is absolute trash. Also has a smashed front and back. But normally I like to take care of things I own and actually use them properly. And maybe a better spec'd phone might get me to care more. I know this is shizo talk lol. I just remember how I loved my old HTC, rooted it, had emulators on it and dualshock bluetooth shit all set up only to have a fucking friend trash it.
>>
>>89946047
>>89946117
thanks, I think I'll get the SE3 for better processor and about the same battery life.
>>
>>89946336
Well it pretty much depends on what's more important to you

The S21FE will get 4 OS updates to Android 16, it has a flagship chip and camera

the A52s will get 3, it has a good midrange chip and okay camera but it has SD card and headphone jack. I personally would go for the S21FE since I don't care about those things but it's up to you
>>
>>89944791
HOW HAS THE CHINKPHONES PASTEBIN NOT BEEN UPDATED IN 15 MONTHS?
>>
I am in the US on xfinity mobile. Currently have a galaxy s9 that ive had for 4 years after upgrading from a galaxy s4 before that. I keep phones for a long time.

I love my s9, its a good size for me and i have no qualms except that im full on storage (64gb), my fingerprint sensor is half broke, and my call volume went super quiet a while back where i can barely hear the person on the other end (???). My battery seems fine, i usually charge once a day still. Time to upgrade?

I like having a 3.5mm jack, rear fingerprint sensor, and I LOVE having the permanent on-screen home/back buttons. I use the back button all the time. I wont go to iOS but i do wish i had apple picture quality.

Any phones at like $400 or less that I would like? Thanks

- 4GB RAM
- 64GB storage
- $329 USD
>moto g stylus 5g
- snapdragon 695 5G
- 6GB RAM
- 128GB storage

i know it sounds obvious but Motorola apparently has shit software support. i have to buy a new phone tomorrow because cell service stopped working on my current one (due to a buggy update) and i can't just buy an a52 or something because i can't wait more than 24 hours (will buy it at phone store).

How much is the Xperia 10 IV where you are?
You get the option of Sailfish if you pay for it (and are in Europe or use a EU/UK VPN). The downside seems to be no stereo speakers. Sony phones tend to be expensive and hard to find.
>>
>>89946870

sounds like a good option but my carrier doesn't offer it thus i can't get it (ordering online isn't an option because i legitimately need a phone in less than 24 hours)
>>89947084
My current phone literally has a Helio G25, probably one of the shittiest processors on the market today. It works fine for me because I've done some optimizations like disabling UI animations. I'm only upgrading because I can't get cell service (maybe something broke idk) and I need to communicate with people at my job via phone. I typically use my phones for 3-4 years. Sounds like you're just looking for things to get mad at.
>>
What normal Pixel features am I missing out on on P7 when I switch to CalyxOS?
Also is calyx a smooth bug free experience?
>>
>>89946870
They're both pretty good.
>>
>>89947191
Oh do you still have to pay up front? If it’s divided over 24 months like they do in Canada, $329 vs $349 is barely worth mentioning. But it’s more noticeable when it’s all at up front.
>>
>>89947331
Yeah, it's a prepaid carrier. They're basically the same price to me though. Don't really know why I mentioned the prices in the first place lol.

>>
>>89947640

>>
>>89947670
Yeah you need at least 90 if you’re going to be a top player in CS:GO for Phones, to get into esports you need at least a Snapdragon 465 phone with 120Hz and if you want to actually compete you need a gamer phone with 240 or 360Hz. Absolutely mandatory.

If you don’t have high refresh rates, then “terrorists win” - unless you’re playing for their side. Then they lose, because you are TOO SLOW.

For the S22 family there's better RAM management, but that's about it. The 1TB/12GB S22 Ultra usually had 4.5-5GB free after boot on Android 12 / One UI 4. On Android 13 / One UI 5 it has about 6.7-7.3GB free.
Although I think this was a bug, because the Note20 Ultra has the same ~7GB free after boot on Android 12 / One UI 4.

I remember as a teen walking into the Vodafone store and seeing some wild designs. Those lipstick form factor Nokias, some sort of hybrid flip Sagem, the N-Gage. How the fuck does every single new prepaid phone look identical. I seriously cannot tell the difference between any of these models. They all have an identical form, chin and tear drop camera regardless of brand. There used to be innovation even in the lower end.

Help me decide /g/. Splurge on high end (Pixel 7, S22 or Xperia 5 IV), buy a mid range phone like M53 or Edge 30 Fusion, or just buy another replacement battery for my old Poco F1 and ride that one out for another year or two?
Still runs fairly well on Lineage 19.1, only issues I have is the 2nd battery slowly dying (first replacement was a bit of a dud) and the mediocre camera.

Not even a debate on this, SE 2022 is a literal meme. It is inferior to iphone 11 in every aspect. Yeah the processor is a faster than on 11 but there won't be any noticable difference in actual performance as the one in 11 is still super fast. And there is no use of the A15 in the SE 2022 when it is bottlenecked by a tiny battery and a small screen on which you can't really do anything that requires the processing power.

CSGO mobile player here. I play using Shadow cloud pc and 90hz definitely makes it playable since you need all the latency reduction you can get when using cloud based computers. People who use high refresh rate on real computers have advantage over me since their latency is even lower. But that's not what it's only about. High refresh rate simply just feels 10 times better to move around in compared to 60hz.

It is soo thin, like crazy thin and light. It looks cure and my mom says it works flawlessly but she uses it for social media and e-mail/microsoft office. I haven't tried it myself but seems like a good purchase. MIUI imho is great, lots of great features and it looks good. If you have a chance go try it out in a store and then see it for yourself. All of the carriers here offer this phone so finding one to play around would not be hard.

I'm talking about overall experience, not SOC. I heard that OnePlus 11 will run 8g2, BTW.

Oh well it’s kinda like the first one they released. Best SoC but other stuff to keep costs down. Kinda sucks that OnePlus is not what it used to be and they charge so much for the Pro when it isn’t that special, but components cost more and there’s lots of inflation.

>>89955878
It really depends what you want, iPhone 13 Pro is roughly the same as the base 14, but with an extra camera lens. 13 Mini is what I have and I really like the size, which basically forced my hand (used to be an Android person mostly). There’s nothing this small with good specs on Android, closest is Zenfone 9 which is very close to the phone you have.

But it will depend on your carrier, if you’re going through them (i.e. what’s available), features wanted, etc. check the phone finder on the OP.

S22 Uktra vs Moto Edge 30 Ultra? From the places I've looked it seems despite the 4610 battery the moto actually outlasts the S22 and seems to have better overall performance in most cases, plus the "purer" android does seem nice.
I might manage to get a discount making the moto cheaper and if so will get it, but assuming they're both at the same price, which one would be better overall? My use is very general, dfrom games to browsing and sometimes photos.

Too far away considering I would not only have to wait for it to come out but then also wait for it's price to drop, which would only happen several months later. If it launches at the beginning of 2023 then I wouldn't find it at a decent price until June/July, and if it launches towards mid 2023 then I'd have to wait pretty much a full year.

The best part is that animations on Android could be laggy (even after Project Butter) now they brag that their phone refreshes faster while still displaying laggy animations lmao.

It’s hard to show without like a Xiaomi and an iPhone both using gestures in front of you, but even if the former has a FPS advantage it doesn’t feel as fluid. Pixels are better but not pixel perfect. I can see why many people turn off animations.

>>89956314
You need to have a constant connection to each app’s server. Say you use Matrix, WhatsApp, and Telegram for random examples, instead of using Play Services and bundling everything together in the Google botnet, you need each app to maintain a persistent connection for push notifications and in turn they need to show a persistent notification (which can be suppressed). If you only use one service this could be fine, even better than stock, but gets more and more annoying the more apps with push notifications you add. If they work at all without Play Services that is.

I did use Graphene, didn’t stay too long as I ended up with a phone where the big difference was that I couldn’t pay for stuff with it or change songs while driving with my voice (I guess this is kinda the point, get rid of Google), and even after I eventually installed “sandboxed” Play Services, granting it all the permissions it wanted just to get certain things to work, some things didn’t work.

The needle that broke the camels back was I couldn’t start a song and then plug in my 3.5mm dongle and have it play through headphones/stereo, unless the phone was unlocked… I later learned this was for security. Not a big deal once you know but when this basic functionality doesn’t work and you don’t know why, it’s really frustrating and I ended up going back to Google botnet OS before switching phones.

tl;dr the slight privacy enhancement wasn’t worth it to me for all the stuff I had to give up

idk, for me it's the opposite
You can't cancel a lot of animations on ios, which leads to you swiping twice like a retard because the first swipe doesn't register mid-previous animation. My old oneplus 8 was felt a lot smoother to use because of this

Yeah I am perfectly fine with 60fps. My home monitors are that too. Most relatively modern games you have to compromise visuals if you want to reach high frame rates, which might be good in a competitive shooter, but even when playing Apex Legends on PC I prefer it to look decent rather than have a slight advantage over others. As long as it stays at 60 I’m happy, but I’m not super competitive.

There was that one game where you could lower settings so much the grass disappeared, if you gotta get kills like that I don’t think you’re gonna make it to the HONDA CIVIC PRESENTS MOBILE VALORANT WORLD CUP BROUGHT TO YOU BY MCDONALDS.

Lots of similarities with audiophiles too, spending resources chasing diminishing returns. Maybe you have golden ears or eyes though and will appreciate it. Everybody’s different.
>>
>>89956670
What kind of swipes do you mean? I just tried a couple and could stop and go back (home gesture back to same app, back gesture back to same screen). Maybe it’s in how you use it? Seems to reward thoughtful swiping rather than frantic stabbing maybe.

Some 3rd-patry software has this issue, like when you open a picture / post, it fades in with slow animation and you cant exit out while it still plays. Maybe i'm just too autistic and it's not that big of a deal
Android doesn't have these kinds of issues because of universal back gesture.

Basically on ios ensuring smooth in-app gesture navigation is up to developer, while on android it mostly just werks

Some have completely separate versions, such as Apex mobile being separate from Apex PC/console. Even for those that don't, many companies tend to ban users that are found emulating as that enables all sorts of hacking and cheating on top of giving a number of unfair advantages. If you want an edge over others while keeping it "legal" and mostly risk-free you might as well just use one of those portable gamepads that attaches to the phone.

>2023 iPhone USB Type C
lol that’s definitely not going to happen next year, if at all. Technigger explains:
https://youtu.be/UdgRUCVUts0

But if your only reason for not having an iPhone is you want to use a physically worse connector with it (with a protrusion inside the middle of the female port, and prone to failure due to bent pins), that’s really odd. Not really something I consider on a day to day basis, since I charge using MagSafe for charging.

Only thing that would be better is plugging my stupid vape pen into the same cord as my phone, but they like different speed charge input and if I do both at the same time I still need two cables. People act like Type C is superior but if everything except iPhones used Lightning and iPhones used Type C, the same people would still be mad and wanting Apple to conform so they can charge their phone and other things with the shitty power brick that came with their old phone from 8 years ago.

6a is going to be supported for like 4 and a while more years and can run Graphene if you swing that way. Samsung has similar promises, but the FE was released over a year and a half before the Pixel (FR was rereleased, but probably not adding to the support timeline), and much less custom ROM availability.

I didn’t like my Pixel 6 and have bitched about it before, but there are some nice botnet features and it’s not bad for an Android phone (plus the 6a is smaller physically, which was a complaint). The tensor is just not a great SoC.

I fell for the Samsung meme previously with the Note 10+ after reassurances from /g/ that Samsung was better now. Still tons of crappy duplicated apps, Bixby, and I didn’t like the skin and waiting for new versions. The pen was a neat gimmick but used it like a half a dozen times, never for something useful.

It's always the same thing
"motorola has no updates"
But that has improved a lot by now, they promise 3 years of constant updates, and to be honest i wont use it more then 2 years.

It’s a pretty big jump but also not that huge at the same time because phones are stagnated.
>smaller notch
>more RAM
>OLED screen with higher resolution
>A16 over A13 SoC
>MagSafe (which is actually quite useful if you get a charger for it)
The battery is the same size but the A16 is going to be more efficient, but is driving a higher res and refresh rate screen (the testing says 11 does a bit better). If you plan on keeping it for a fairly long time the 14 Pro is a pretty safe bet.
>>
Is something like the Moto Edge 30 Neo worth it? One Plus Nord 2T, Galaxy A53/A52s, Realme chinkshit all approximately the same price and are better in different aspects. There's also the 6A but a 60hz screen is a deal breaker. I like the basic stock Android that Motorola has only downside to me is the camera and maybe the chipset but I don't use my phone that intensively.

Bought an Oppo A16s for $140 when I needed a quick replacement and it's perfectly adequate, fast and long battery life

I feel like a massive retard for ever spending more than that on phone, flagship phones are a scam, never buying one again

Thoughts on this thing? I bought a regular F3 around 1 1/2 years ago but I was a retard and skimped out with the 128/6GB model thinking it'd be enough and now I'm up to 120GB used and slowly climbing with time. Would you say F4 GT 256/12GB is a worthwhile upgrade or should I try to delete bloat from what I have now? Consider I don't give the slightest shit about camera quality.

> Oh well it’s kinda like the first one they released. Best SoC but other stuff to keep costs down. Kinda sucks that OnePlus is not what it used to be and they charge so much for the Pro when it isn’t that special, but components cost more and there’s lots of inflation.
In 2013 phones were much simpler and cheaper, so "flagship SOC" made phone a flagship. Even SGS5 has plastic back.

Currently looking into both the Samsung A52s and Moto Edge 30. The moto looks great in terms of performance but I read it will probably get only 1-2 years of updates, and I really don't want to mess much with custom ROMS anymore.

On the other hand, the A52s/A53 promise 3+ years of updates but their performance is not as good and I'm worried that regardless of the updates they will start lagging in a few years

Anyone who has had either who can weigh in?

What is the best Android phone if money is not limit?
I'm currently on OnePlus 7 Pro and while it works great I've been wondering what's the best Android phone out there at the moment.
>>
>>89962530
Because the powers that be need something to blackmail you with or an easy way to track you down if you ever become a serious threat to them, and privacy denies them that. It's also why there's this huge push for everything to be smart or connected to the internet, from the sound box in your living room to your fucking fridge. Big Brother is unironically the future they're aiming for.
On the business side, the more you know about your clients the better you can target them with your products and ads, and you can also keep tabs on their spending habits. Since these goals coincide the companies are more than glad to put backdoors and other shady crap on your device so they can get a peek at the data, and getting some cash from the feds on top of that is just the cherry on top.

Updade on the Carbon phone. Carbon 1 Mk II
returning it. reviews hold up, gets terrible reception. due to carbon fibre.

recently discovered good lock for Samsung. there are support pages on Samsung support that tell you to get goodlock. the screenshots show them as official samsung apps. but they appear as third party in app. these good lock apps provide a lot of customization. For a while I wondered why the crop and deleted options of screenshots wouldn't pop up anymore. its because it was moved to goodlock. good to have it back. but why is Samsung hiding essential features like this. why are they pretending goodlock isnt owned by Samsung? I would assume its to have plausable deniability if they want to try copying other brand features before they port them officially.
Anything else hidden away in that galaxy store?

Front page of eBay has iPhone 12 Pro Max 256 GB unlocked for $599.99. Just bought it. Good deal?

This is for my boomer parents who watch YouTube all day on their phones.

The alternative is $1,099.99 for a 14 Pro Max 128 GB.

Ausfag here. Apple is selling iPhone 13 mini 128gb for $1049, everywhere else it’s around $1200. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max 64gb that is full and slow, battery health is 77% so it dies fast and I’m charging multiple times a day. I can trade in my phone and get the 13 mini for basically half price. Should I bite the bullet?

I have read that this yellow sign could mean many things: that the battery is damaged, the charging port is damaged, the adapter or USB cable is damaged. But I have also read that it could just mean that the charging is just too slow.

Recently my charger died. I was getting this yellow sign sometimes while using that adapter before it died. That was a sign that the adapter was starting to malfunction, right?

Now when I try to charge my phone on the computer that sign shows up too. It is telling me just that the charging is slower on the USB port of the computer, right?

what do you use 64gb for? I use zero, and I put my emulator games on an sd card, and that's only 8gb.
anyways, you could probably pay some dude $200 to replace your battery (that's a scam by the way, the battery is only worth like $40, but if you tried to do it, you would probably break it, and the correct required tools would add up to $200).

actually nevermind, an iphone 11 battery replacement isn't as complicated as I expected, you can probably find a guy to do it for $100, and you could buy a kit that includes the battery from ifixit for pretty cheap.
you can still break your phone though.
>>
>>89968859
As far as I know the RAM is better when is being used. It's used to preload things even if you are not using them so if you open an app it opens faster. On Windows for example, the OS knows what programs you use more and it preloads them using RAM. But if suddenly you need more RAM then it uses it for what you are doing and not to preload programs. I assume this also works the same in phones.
