Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design, there is absolutely no way to improve on this, the touchscreen keyboard is great!"Millennials, explain yourselves.
I just wish it were much bigger. So big I can't type with 1 hand ... yeah
>>89943371I had an iPhone 3G and jailbroke it the same day. Cydia was fun and I seriously didn't miss anything my HTC Tytn windows mobile phone had to offer.
>>89943371I think people one day dreamed of being able to carry around a 250g slab of glass awkwardly jabbing them every time they move, but it just wasn't possible with the technology at the time. Thank god for progress.
>>89943371It didn't even have any apps! I had tons of apps for my Nokia 3650 years before this came out.But when I saw it I knew my Nokia smartphone is deprecated because it only takes a bit of time until it will be full of apps.Written on my iPhone 12
>>89943371It killed the concept of a pocket computer. Now all phones are simple appliances made only for consumption. It took a decade for us to start getting real portable computers (UMPCs) again and the market is still quite niche and lacking in features.
>>89943371Peak zoomie post.In the early 00s people will still blown away by the capacity of being able to do certain things at all. Prior to the iPhone the best you could do was a shitty text PDA and a game console like the Nintendo DS. Neither of which were used by normies en masse
>>89943713>and lacking in featuresTell that to my Steam D*ck
>>89943885Morons were blown away. We already had the Toshiba Librettos, OQO Model 01/02, Fujitsu Lifebook, etc. all of which were immensely superior in concept and execution, able to run a full desktop operating system and sporting real keyboards.>>89944022An excellent example. It only has one fucking port.
>>89943371I remember thinking it was like Nokia but with lots of cool apps, nth skins, compatible with j2me games and more. android had a lot of SOVL before the adware and pajeets took over the play store with garbage, and fagman started shilling their shit
>>89943371>Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design (...)"I did, and I still think its the best design ever made by apple. A iPhone 2G/3GS remake with an oled screen and iOS 4 with an updated kernel would be the best smartphone released in the last 10 years period.
>""phone design""Touchscreens killed it, now they just look like picrel to me.
>>89944468it's a real shame it had to be this way. touchscreens work great combined with a trackpad.
>>89943371man i miss 2007-2011 so nostalgic
>>89943885Ah yes, the niche device known as the Nintendo DS (154m units sold). Dark times. Thank god the iPhone came along and finally brought portable technology to the masses (6.1m units sold).
>>89943371The iPhone wasn't even usable until the 3G came out on Verizon. I was rocking a stolen Nokia N900 and then I got the HTC G1 on Tmobile. The G1 was goated until the Motorola DROID phones dropped.I still have my G1 as a keepsake.
>>89943432I remember the fanbois crying about "muh tablet android phones"... well look at it now.
Google figured out how to do touch keyboards but Apple's version is absolute trash. No matter what it constantly puts the wrong character down and in iMessage it autocorrects to the wrong word AFTER you hit send. Swipe typing is somewhat functional in iOS but you have to get used to hand typing words not in its dictionary.
>>89943371No, the original iPhone lacked a lot of features that were standard elsewhere, but in 2008 the iPhone 3G came out, fixed a lot of the issues, and steamrolled the competition
>>89943371It was crystal clear right at unlock swipe that it is absolutely revolutionary. I remember heart literally missing beats out of sheer awe. I still had Nokia 1100 with monochrome display at that point.
>>89943436>windows mobile phonerip windows phone, had potential but microsoft didn't put enough behind it
>>89945976They put enough behind it. I say that as a iphone fag. It was great. I wish it was still here. It was just too late. Ballmer was a goofball and missed his chance to get out in front earlier.

>>89946148god damn it ballmer
>>89946193>iniggers seethingMore like laughing. At tards who actually save pics like this. You'll never get over them. You'll never cope in a healthy way with Apple's mere existence.
>>89943371Most of us hated the lack of keyboard and bought a BlackBerry instead. The iPhone itself really didn't catch on with the mainsteam until like 2009 or 2010.
>>89946252seethe ijeet lmao
>>89944806Ah yes, the Nintendo DS. Pinnacle of the businessman's kit. Perfect for viewing spreadsheets on the go and making calls all in one device.

>>89945976>>89946148God I wish windows phone still survived. We need a 3rd choice so bad. The Google and Apple duopoly is shit. Windows phone could have stayed in a humble 3rd place if Microsoft didn't give up on it.

i still have my iPhone 1.0.it is a work of art and beaty, it still works perfectly, except it no longer can connect to cellular, because 2G is dead, nor Wifi, because Wifi 5/6 is the standard now.i am still impressed by the ruthless simplicity of iOS 1.0 and I wish we could go back to that. 99% of the crap that has been added to all software since 2007 is worthless garbage that gets in the way of using your magical device.
>>89943371It didnt have an app store because jobs and apple believed webapps would have been the future, but instead people like you pissed and moaned and complained and then called it a 'walled garden' when you got your way. There were plenty of people who thought it was a gimmick that wouldn't last, i knew the first moment i laid eyes on it it was the future.
steve jobs was the original basedjak
>>89943371i watched the release event live and what was shown was out of this world for the time, i was completely blown away, never seen anything like it before
>>89943371I thought it was a fun alternative to other smartphones, that whole>Shake the phone to randomly select on Google Maps a restaurant to visit!>Tilt the phone and it looks like you're drinking beer!>You and your friend can play virtual air hockey by standing at two different ends of the 3.5 inch display!Seemed pretty inventive to me back then and presumably lots of developers as well because the hype around being an "App Maker" took off like a wildfire. I miss the world being that light hearted sometimes, my phone now basically just has apps for work and some social media apps on it.

>>89952961all technology stands the test of timeif it does not, it is not technology
>>89953024is this technology?
The iPhone 4 to me is one of the most important phone releases ever.Until that point Apple offered the smoothest touchscreen experience BUT the 480x320 screen sucked big ass when competitors offered 800x480 and OLED. Before the iPhone 4 there was no ideal phone. The iPhone 4 fixed the biggest problem and the screen was gorgeous and surpassed the competition. It was so far ahead of every other phone. I remember playing the Unreal Engine demo and having PS3 graphics on a phone blew my mind. Also the glass and metal looked gorgeous. You really felt like having something special.Apple hasn't released an exciting phone since. Everyone caught up and now iPhones look just like any other phone.

>>89948423>appeal to authorityNpc hands wrote this post. You are primitive, souless automaton.
>>89943371This thing was pretty fucking neato when it came out. If you were in kindergarten then you need not respond. Touchscreens sucked ass before this. The keyboard was actually the best available. Most touchscreens were inaccurate, unresponsive and a lot of them were still resistive and required a stylus to do anything without wanting to kill yourself. Then you throw in desktop web, maps, camera, video in decent aspect. I remember watching videos on that little ipod tier blackberry screen. And it wasn't built like a pile of shit either, which was pretty standard, creaky ass plastic phones that would self destruct when you dropped them. After the 3g and ios 3.0 it was a wrap
>>89953648idk why you're still replying hours later to some deleted post about some sort of white Indian? >>89946891The guy with an iPhone can afford an actual camera with a pro lens.
>>89943371It honestly felt like a bit of a downgrade at first when I replaced my sidekick with an iPhone 3G, but when I jailbroke it and downloaded more apps, I realized its true potential. I still hate touch screen keyboards though
>>89952673Blackberry was basic and Windows was beyond laggy and garbage. Those were targeted at "businessmen" and not consumers. iPhone had a consumer market target and at least gave what felt like an unparalleled UX at the time.
>>89943371Not gonna explain shit to you, broccoli head.

>>89945976it is going to be a new wave soon, dockable phones that carry desktop environmentswindows phone and google glass are prime examples of being ahead of their time
>>89959722Every phone that has done this has inevitably failed.
>>89952629Not enough ports
>>89959773>Every phone that has done this has inevitably fa-ACKEvery single Samsung Galaxy top of the line since the S8 has a desktop mode. And now every single high end Motorola is also doing it.
>>89947346I wish it stayed the powerful stylus phone that it was with a keyboard. I remember in elementary my teacher had one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It was powerful, techy, and business like. You had powerful phones like that or shit little flip phones for kids and normies where you only did simple stuff like texts or calls. It was nice, it was out of your life and only used to contact people and the windows phone (probably more a PDA) allowed power users to get the job done but wasnt there for consuming. Now all we do is consume on our pocket devices (like I am right now). its shit, we dont live into the moment and rather get sucked into our online environments and the toxicity of them feeding our worst parts
>>89943371Not as sexy pic related, though.
>>89961323Or Nokias take on that
>>89943885> peak zoomie> shitty text PDAlol
>>89943371No.iPhones were meh until iPhone 4 came out.
>>89960018This.If I could wind it back and change the track of humanity or at least relive the early 2000s I definitely would
>>89962618Oh god dont get me started. I miss dialup. I love fast internet but something about not having everything at your fingertips is amazing. Its like that balance of life not having everything you want right away and having to fight for it. The internet was better back then too, or just texting my friends instead everyone always connected and plugged into their artificial online self or communities of people you will never see. The modern world is so toxic and its only getting worse. I'm only 25 but I feel like a boomer. I use a 2017 Sony xz1c and people look at me weird because I dont have the latest and greatest since I'm the tech guy and know everything.
>>89944468concrete slab meme lol
>>89961809This. They needed HD screens to make mobile apps worth it.
>>89943371no but this was
>>89946193Sure the OG iPhone wasn't great but Apple's approach has always been one which prioritizes aesthetics and ease of use anyway. I bought an original iPhone still in the box a few years ago as an investment. Even though it was lacking in features in its time, it is still to this day easy to use and absolutely gorgeous despite a decade and a half having passed.
>>89943371>did anyone seriously pick one of these things in 2022 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of computer design"
>>89943371No in fact a meme blogger wrote a whole famous shitpost about how his Nokia was better than a shitty smudge-screen iphone. Business suits were all using Blackberries to avoid having to pay attention to their wife and kids at dinnertime. But other than that, advanced phones were either inaccessible to normalfags due to expense, or were just too clunky and nerdy (nobody wanted to look like Pajeet with a mini computer hanging from his belt). But the concept was immediately recognized as promising. Mechanical parts are a liability and also hurt the form factor when it comes to slipping the device in and out of your pocket. The larger screen made web browsing far more practical, as well as using apps like Google Maps. I could browse the web on my LG VX-4600 but it was an "emergency only" kind of thing due to the really tiny screen and lack of a point-and-click interface, which I hate as a general rule but trying to use a maps app without one is very cumbersome. (I do miss the flip-phone for actually talking on the phone, though. In that respect it might be the best cell phone I ever had)The biggest deal that zoomers won't appreciate is the combination phone+media player+camera+GPS. Basically the iPhone was one device to replace all the other electronics you might carry with you. Instead of a a cell phone, iPod, digital camera (that you had to leave home half the time or at least keep stowed in a bag), and GPS (which you left in your car) you just had one device you could take with you everywhere that could do all of it.
>>89959107Ericsson had some incredible phones they just weren't able to market to normalfags the way Apple did.
>>89943371It was exclusive to AT&T so no
>>89944998Turn off autocorrect but keep on predictive text retard

>>89944055>all of which were immensely superior in concept and execution, except they sucked and were bigger > able to run a full desktop operating system and sporting real keyboards.you are fucking retarded.
>>89953754This is the only accurate post. I never own an iphone or a mac (the only apple thing I owned were the ipod nano and the 2nd gen ipod touch as a replacement) but when the first iphone was released there were no competitors on that level > at the time the touch were 60/40 still resistive and the non resistive > the fluidity of the touch was something people never saw even remotely. same for the keyboard > it could surf the web and not wapIt took android an embarrassing amount of time to catch up in terms of microlag and smoothness.
>>89944897My sister had a DROID they were so fucking coolI miss sliding keyboards on phones
OP allowed data collecting & privacy collecting companies in agreement
>>89943885The Gameboy SP and Nintendo DS are both vastly superior technologies than the iPhoneiPhone is mid af
>Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design"Yep, thats exactly what happened, because it was true. Good camera. Good screen. App store. iPod. Maps. Wi-fi. Good browser. A coomers dream. There were some other random flagships, like qwerty slide phones, but honestly they were really uncommon and impossible to find in most stores. You could walk into literally any electronics store and get an iPhone.
The opinion of /g/ posters should be ignored for the early smart phone era. There are two types of anons when it comes to this.>zoomers who larp as boomers>millennials/boomers who were poorfags and still using a nokia brick until 2012
>>89943371The reason it took off is because touch screens are a shitty mobile approximation to the Xerox mouse/desktop Anti-Pattern.So you could actually browse the web from your pocket.Access to Google from your pocket was a big deal.In reality, discrete input devices are superior, but the Xerox Anti-Pattern won't die - it only propagates into an even worse and more cancerous form.
>>89943371>explain yourselvesIt was awesome and nothing we had seen before.Yes by todays standards it's awful but back then it was next generation tech.
>>89966749>Xerox mouse/desktop Anti-Pattern.
>>89944806Is she on meth?
>>89966091Wahhhh wahhhhhhh wahh wahhhhhhhh
>>89943371I had a second gen iTouch and it unironically was the pinnacle of design. It was incredibly stable compared to the dogshit they put out today, the icons looked way better back then, you could initially play Youtube in the background, and there was a huge number of apps. Battery life was way better.iOS got worse with every update and still does. The only feature that has been added in recent memory is document scanning via notes (which should be a camera app, it takes something like 8 taps from home screen to scan a document in black and white) and the translate app which randomly deletes language libraries and stops functioning quite routinely. If Steve had been around to see the storage bug in iOS 15 he would have killed everyone in Cupertino and then himself.
>>89943456This is the other thing that drives me crazy. After my iTouch broke moving up to an iPhone 5 was annoying. Moving to the 6 is genuinely painful, holding it for prolonged periods of time cuts off circulation to my left hand. The 5 in retrospect was the best compromise. The phones I see today make me want to go back to a dumbphone.
>>89946891Very impressive results from P6 pro. I'm guessing it does sensor cropping like the P7 pro? This was taken with 22U which has 10x optical zoom but only 10mpx. P7 pro has only 3.5x optical zoom but 48mpx sensor so it gets similar results.Imagine a 10x or more periscope tele with 50mpx+ sensor...
>>89959639>super mega turbonerdYeah, and?
>>89943371I don't know, but that icon theme was peak design for sure
