Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design, there is absolutely no way to improve on this, the touchscreen keyboard is great!"
Millennials, explain yourselves.
>>
I just wish it were much bigger. So big I can't type with 1 hand ... yeah

I had an iPhone 3G and jailbroke it the same day. Cydia was fun and I seriously didn't miss anything my HTC Tytn windows mobile phone had to offer.
>>
>>89943371
I think people one day dreamed of being able to carry around a 250g slab of glass awkwardly jabbing them every time they move, but it just wasn't possible with the technology at the time. Thank god for progress.
>>
>>89943371
It didn't even have any apps! I had tons of apps for my Nokia 3650 years before this came out.
But when I saw it I knew my Nokia smartphone is deprecated because it only takes a bit of time until it will be full of apps.

Written on my iPhone 12
>>
>>89943371
It killed the concept of a pocket computer. Now all phones are simple appliances made only for consumption. It took a decade for us to start getting real portable computers (UMPCs) again and the market is still quite niche and lacking in features.
>>
>>89943371
Peak zoomie post.

In the early 00s people will still blown away by the capacity of being able to do certain things at all. Prior to the iPhone the best you could do was a shitty text PDA and a game console like the Nintendo DS. Neither of which were used by normies en masse
>>
>>89943713
>and lacking in features
Tell that to my Steam D*ck
>>
>>89943885
Morons were blown away. We already had the Toshiba Librettos, OQO Model 01/02, Fujitsu Lifebook, etc. all of which were immensely superior in concept and execution, able to run a full desktop operating system and sporting real keyboards.
>>89944022
An excellent example. It only has one fucking port.
>>
>>89943371
I remember thinking it was like Nokia but with lots of cool apps, nth skins, compatible with j2me games and more. android had a lot of SOVL before the adware and pajeets took over the play store with garbage, and fagman started shilling their shit
>>
>>89943371
>Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design (...)"

I did, and I still think its the best design ever made by apple. A iPhone 2G/3GS remake with an oled screen and iOS 4 with an updated kernel would be the best smartphone released in the last 10 years period.
>>
>""phone design""
Touchscreens killed it, now they just look like picrel to me.

The iPhone wasn't even usable until the 3G came out on Verizon. I was rocking a stolen Nokia N900 and then I got the HTC G1 on Tmobile. The G1 was goated until the Motorola DROID phones dropped.

I still have my G1 as a keepsake.

Google figured out how to do touch keyboards but Apple's version is absolute trash. No matter what it constantly puts the wrong character down and in iMessage it autocorrects to the wrong word AFTER you hit send. Swipe typing is somewhat functional in iOS but you have to get used to hand typing words not in its dictionary.
>>
>>89943371
No, the original iPhone lacked a lot of features that were standard elsewhere, but in 2008 the iPhone 3G came out, fixed a lot of the issues, and steamrolled the competition
>>
>>89943371

i still have my iPhone 1.0.
it is a work of art and beaty, it still works perfectly, except it no longer can connect to cellular, because 2G is dead, nor Wifi, because Wifi 5/6 is the standard now.

i am still impressed by the ruthless simplicity of iOS 1.0 and I wish we could go back to that. 99% of the crap that has been added to all software since 2007 is worthless garbage that gets in the way of using your magical device.

It didnt have an app store because jobs and apple believed webapps would have been the future, but instead people like you pissed and moaned and complained and then called it a 'walled garden' when you got your way.

The iPhone 4 to me is one of the most important phone releases ever.

Until that point Apple offered the smoothest touchscreen experience BUT the 480x320 screen sucked big ass when competitors offered 800x480 and OLED. Before the iPhone 4 there was no ideal phone. The iPhone 4 fixed the biggest problem and the screen was gorgeous and surpassed the competition. It was so far ahead of every other phone. I remember playing the Unreal Engine demo and having PS3 graphics on a phone blew my mind. Also the glass and metal looked gorgeous. You really felt like having something special.

Apple hasn't released an exciting phone since. Everyone caught up and now iPhones look just like any other phone.

This thing was pretty fucking neato when it came out. If you were in kindergarten then you need not respond. Touchscreens sucked ass before this. The keyboard was actually the best available. Most touchscreens were inaccurate, unresponsive and a lot of them were still resistive and required a stylus to do anything without wanting to kill yourself. Then you throw in desktop web, maps, camera, video in decent aspect. I remember watching videos on that little ipod tier blackberry screen. And it wasn't built like a pile of shit either, which was pretty standard, creaky ass plastic phones that would self destruct when you dropped them. After the 3g and ios 3.0 it was a wrap

I wish it stayed the powerful stylus phone that it was with a keyboard. I remember in elementary my teacher had one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It was powerful, techy, and business like. You had powerful phones like that or shit little flip phones for kids and normies where you only did simple stuff like texts or calls. It was nice, it was out of your life and only used to contact people and the windows phone (probably more a PDA) allowed power users to get the job done but wasnt there for consuming. Now all we do is consume on our pocket devices (like I am right now). its shit, we dont live into the moment and rather get sucked into our online environments and the toxicity of them feeding our worst parts

No in fact a meme blogger wrote a whole famous shitpost about how his Nokia was better than a shitty smudge-screen iphone. Business suits were all using Blackberries to avoid having to pay attention to their wife and kids at dinnertime. But other than that, advanced phones were either inaccessible to normalfags due to expense, or were just too clunky and nerdy (nobody wanted to look like Pajeet with a mini computer hanging from his belt).

But the concept was immediately recognized as promising. Mechanical parts are a liability and also hurt the form factor when it comes to slipping the device in and out of your pocket. The larger screen made web browsing far more practical, as well as using apps like Google Maps. I could browse the web on my LG VX-4600 but it was an "emergency only" kind of thing due to the really tiny screen and lack of a point-and-click interface, which I hate as a general rule but trying to use a maps app without one is very cumbersome. (I do miss the flip-phone for actually talking on the phone, though. In that respect it might be the best cell phone I ever had)

The biggest deal that zoomers won't appreciate is the combination phone+media player+camera+GPS. Basically the iPhone was one device to replace all the other electronics you might carry with you. Instead of a a cell phone, iPod, digital camera (that you had to leave home half the time or at least keep stowed in a bag), and GPS (which you left in your car) you just had one device you could take with you everywhere that could do all of it.

This is the only accurate post. I never own an iphone or a mac (the only apple thing I owned were the ipod nano and the 2nd gen ipod touch as a replacement) but when the first iphone was released there were no competitors on that level
> at the time the touch were 60/40 still resistive and the non resistive
> the fluidity of the touch was something people never saw even remotely. same for the keyboard
> it could surf the web and not wap

It took android an embarrassing amount of time to catch up in terms of microlag and smoothness.

>Did anyone seriously pick up one of these things in 2007 and think "yep, this is the absolute peak of phone design"
Yep, thats exactly what happened, because it was true. Good camera. Good screen. App store. iPod. Maps. Wi-fi. Good browser. A coomers dream.
There were some other random flagships, like qwerty slide phones, but honestly they were really uncommon and impossible to find in most stores. You could walk into literally any electronics store and get an iPhone.

The reason it took off is because touch screens are a shitty mobile approximation to the Xerox mouse/desktop Anti-Pattern.
So you could actually browse the web from your pocket.
Access to Google from your pocket was a big deal.
In reality, discrete input devices are superior, but the Xerox Anti-Pattern won't die - it only propagates into an even worse and more cancerous form.

I had a second gen iTouch and it unironically was the pinnacle of design. It was incredibly stable compared to the dogshit they put out today, the icons looked way better back then, you could initially play Youtube in the background, and there was a huge number of apps. Battery life was way better.

iOS got worse with every update and still does. The only feature that has been added in recent memory is document scanning via notes (which should be a camera app, it takes something like 8 taps from home screen to scan a document in black and white) and the translate app which randomly deletes language libraries and stops functioning quite routinely.

If Steve had been around to see the storage bug in iOS 15 he would have killed everyone in Cupertino and then himself.
>>
>>89943456
This is the other thing that drives me crazy. After my iTouch broke moving up to an iPhone 5 was annoying. Moving to the 6 is genuinely painful, holding it for prolonged periods of time cuts off circulation to my left hand. The 5 in retrospect was the best compromise. The phones I see today make me want to go back to a dumbphone.

Very impressive results from P6 pro. I'm guessing it does sensor cropping like the P7 pro?
This was taken with 22U which has 10x optical zoom but only 10mpx. P7 pro has only 3.5x optical zoom but 48mpx sensor so it gets similar results.
