Don't post unless you have actually heard speakers over $5000
>>88028527I've been to a Pink Floyd concert, their speakers cost $250,000. what would you like to know?
>>88028527strange looking speakers. don't know anything about them.>Don't post unless you have actually heard speakers over $5000i think most people have if they've ever been to a nightclub or concert. are.. you even trying?
>>88028527>hard floors>hard walls>bass trapping corners>reflective surfaces everywherethat room is going to sound like shit regardless of how expensive the speakers are
>>88028684>>88028624Nightclub speakers are made for loudness not sound quality>strange looking speakers. don't know anything about them.Electrostatic they make music with static. It makes the music sound extremely big and clear. Much bigger than normal speakers. I read one review which said it made the music sound like a 25 foot leonard cohen was singing to then. I've only listened to the cheapest version which had some problems. The good ones are too expensive for me
>>88028770>Nightclub speakers are made for loudness not sound qualityyeah that is true, but still damn expensive!>Electrostatic they make music with staticah. that makes sense. explains a lot.>I read one review which said it made the music sound like a 25 foot leonard cohen was singing to themthat seems very impressive. i would really like to hear how that sounds with my own ears.
>>88028527that mofi record saga ended up in the washington post. looks like that business is in a world of trouble for misleading their customers.
so headphone diminishing return graph steepens right around $500, where does it start with home speaker systems?
>>88028872I don't know what graph you are talking about but Stax headphones start at $1500 and are much superior to the headphones at $500. This idea of diminishing returns is a myth
>>88028527>over $5000where do i listen to these? i'm pretty sure i can't tell sound quality apart above like 100€
>>88028872wtf are you talking about$500 doesn't even buy mid fi let alone good sound
>>88028872>>88028931There's no diminishing returns, there's negative returns. As in every model more expensive than that will sound worse. For IEMs you get negative returns after $500(Moondrop Varistions), for headphones you get them at $4000(DCA Stealth), for speakers you get them at $4000(8351b). The thing with the speakers though even the best speaker will sound like shit if you don't EQ it to your room, so might as well EQ everything else. Keep in mind that radiation pattern of a speaker is not fixable with EQ, so you would still want a coaxial design.
>>88029048>8351bA tiny fucking speaker like the Genelecs will not sound as good as a 5 foot speaker or an omnidirectional/electrostatic speaker
reccy please.>preferably japanese make like aiwa, roland, jvc, denon>for music(i enjoy everything melodious to metal) and gaming>20-50k yen(upper limit would be really pushing it but i could if there's something special)i was recommended edifier on this board sometime ago for a more modest budget, but would like a second opinion. also would rather avoid buying chinese(it's not the "cheap" stereotype, i'm not naive)
>>88029123Yet all these towers have worse distortion than genelecs, curious.
>>88029127There is more to sound than just distortion. You can have the perfect sounding speaker but if it's 10 inches tall it will sound worse than a bigger speaker
>>88029140High speakers and expecially towers have awful vertical radiation pattern, they aren't an option at all if you care about sound quality.
>>88029149Have you actually listened to many speakers? I can't imagine you would be saying this if you have. I've listened to the Genelecs and they were just too tiny to be worth using. I guess you probably don't listen to your music loud
>>88028527i shake my head and chuckle when i see "audiophiles" boasting about their expensive speakers while their room is untreated
>>88029164Room treatment is a myth
>>88029162I've been to a hifi show and all speakers sounded like shit. That's just the natural state of speakers that haven't been room eq'd.
>>88029169ThisAcoustics are an illusion
>>88029169hearty kek
>>88028527I like those martin logans, I got to play a fart compilation on them at best buy. Really crispy treble for the shits and enough booming bass for the poo hitting the toilet.
>>88029169>>88029185>>88029201No need for room treatment if you sit 3 inches from the speaker
>>88028527>Don't post unless you have actually heard speakers over $5000Most Audiophiles are insane
Absorbers are a meme, in blind tests even experts prefer diffuse sound. Diffusors are a meme too, your furniture does that. Bass traps and even helmholtz resonator bass traps either don't extend low enough or don't have Q high enough to fix room modes, you know what does? EQ. And if you optimize for several listening spots or have really nasty nulls you just get two subwoofers instead of one. You don't think a big speaker is a substitute to a subwoofer, do you.
>>88029252I don't use subwoofers and EQ is a myth
>>88029252eq is haram
>>88029252>Absorbers are a meme, in blind tests even experts prefer diffuse sound. Diffusors are a meme too, your furniture does thatEhh, maybe if you decorate your room like a hoarder
>>88029260>EQ is a mythNo, but you must use it correctly>>88029311Yes
I use 2$ earbuds, can i post?
>>88029377sure, if you heard speakers over $5000
>>88028527>he spent the cost of a cheap, reliable 2nd small car on speakers to play his shitty music on....
>>88029546My stereo costs twice as much as both of my cars put together. Get your priorities straight ffs
>>88029546Why do you need two cars
>>88029581why would you not have a cheap car to do daily shit to spare your nice car from that and only get it out to have fun
>>88029616Why not combine the both of them and save money
where do audiophile get their music from? producers dont care about making good mixes anymore
>>88029624because that doesn't save money
>>88029631Soundcloud.
>>88029631their vast LP collection from the 50ies to 80ies
>>88028527I sure have, and they didn't sound any better than my $200 ones.
>>88029633yes it does
>>88029631There's a lot of music out there if you don't restrict yourself
>>88028527>speakers over $5000Not an audiophile but isn't that quite low-end for large, powerful speakers?I think my friend's, who likes to LARP as D.J. during party's, are over 10k.I'm more into lighting.Just bought $600 worth of LED strips.
>>88029666If you put miles on your hellcat every day the upkeep is quickly more than the price of a beater car including upkeepyou're losing money that way
>>88029673yeah and it all sounds like assthey don't make it as they used to anymore
>>88029631Make my own in GarageBand
>>88029616>have nice thing>don't use it>live a more miserable life using cheap crap most of the time because you're worried the nice thing you spend all your money on might get dirty. You're like white trash who buys a leather couch and then wraps it in plastic to preserve the leather.
How many audiophiles would pass a blind test of gear in different price range?
>>88029687Don't buy a fag car then
>>88029733>don't use itnah just don't use it for dumb shit
>>88029739blind tests are a scam>here taste this cake>but close your eyes, hold your nose and don't chew, just swallow it directly
>>88029739Most would if you pick the right gear
>>88029755First autist spotted.
>>88028527I’ve heard real life music and no speaker of any price can ever compare.
>>88029772I went to symphony and my speaker setup 90% as good
I have JBL 305 speakers
I have some 30 bucks speakers I bought 15 years ago along with my Sennheiser HD 201 and I have no intention of replacing them.
>>88029748If a trip is "dumb" don't take it.Your daily commute car should be the most comfortable, you spend a good chunk of your life in it if traffic is heavy.
For me it's jbl stage a130 + svs sb-1000 pro.

>>88030737>mfw any modern receiver past 2014 are impossible to get in my county, barely anyone ships them
>>88030737>Something wrong>I hold my head>Onkyo gone>Our jigga dead
>>88030802Feel you. I got the Onkyo upgrade package a couple of years back (Onkyo HT-S7805) and it took me 7 months for it to arrive. The receiver doesn't support 4K120hz which is why I want to upgrade.
>>88030831and those are expensive as hell new
>>88029772Live music doesn't sound realistic to me, no bass at all, it's like listening to school PA system.
>>88030863The receivers? Absolutely, rips my balls hard. The set? Got mine for $700 new after some mumbo-jumbo fuckery by contacting Onyko and the retailers. Currently on the edge to buy another set to get 7.2.4 setup.
>>88029755why do you need eyes to taste the cake?what's important about gear other than sound?
>>88030892ah damn, 700 for a full one doesn't sound badmaybe now after vacation is over for everyone more are gonna pop up second hand
>>88028527I have some higher end Sony receiver from 90s and Mission speakers tho I'm about to pack this all up since chink Microlab 5.1 speakers I use on PC sounds better with proper equalization through apo and you can actually place subwoofer in sweetspot and not have everything stuffed in corners.Missions do sound maybe a tad brighter and cleaner but difference ain't worth it in 2022 anymore.
>>88030905I got one willing to sell for $400, so I am sorely considering it. The fucker won't send it by mail, so I have to drive 8 hours to Oslo to get it.
>>88030919southern europe? that trip is definitely not worth it with the gas prices now
>>88030927> Southern Europe> Oslo
>>88030935Like question is legit, 8 hours drive to Oslo. Either it's southern Europe or Moscow.
>>88030935driving through europe is fairly quick
>>88030963Oh silly man.(It's the capital of Norway)>>88030967True, but still 8 hours one way.
>>88030989so you live in norway but just further away?

>>88030967it's not *that* quick
>>88031008alright gotchanorthern sweden here, sucks shopping for used stuff when not in a capital city>>88031009odd considering the autobahn and all that, i feel like driving through most of sweden only takes like 10 hours
>>88031018S-Sweden bro? Smuggle me some cheap beer.Driving from Oslo to the "northernmost region capital" of Tromsø takes like 22 hours lol.
>>88031037"cheap" haha, yeah i know norway is even worse but damntake the ferry to denmark, much cheaperadds up quickly i guess

>>88031075stay sober norwayanon

>150€absolutely insane, sold within like an hour. didn't ship so i didn't miss out but still
>>88028527You don't know what real dark voices sound like. Those are cheaply made Chinese bullshit. Go find darkvoices and matching speakers made in the USA from like 1974. They're going to run you about 20 grand a piece. Poorfag.
>>88031992>Bryston>Cheap Chinese bullshitPick one. Bryston is probably the most based manufacturer out there
>>88031828get at least two thoughmono bass is aids and single subs are room mode fiesta
I got these commercial speakers for free. How do I hook them up for the best sound? The little dial for power/resistance is throwing me off. Currently have a Denon AVR-591
