Where do we need to focus our efforts in regards to research and development to expedite the process of creating viable robot wives? I imagine we will have to make significant advances in Robotics and AI, but as far as a timeline goes what are we thinking /g/ bros?

Also how do we make them NOT creepy as fuck? The few prototype designs I have seen thus far are firmly rooted in the uncanny valley.
https://www.en.masiro.cafe/ I appreciate the effort from maid cafe chad, but they scare me.

>>

You misunderstand the primary purpose of the robot wife, masturbation solutions already exist, autoblow ai is the first that comes to mind. What does not exist however is a product that can simulate the affection a human partner could provide, a boston dynamics dog with a fleshlight strapped to it's undercarriage would not accomplish this.

mutts approved a mini nuclear reactor recently
>On Friday, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced that it would be issuing a certification to a new nuclear reactor design, making it just the seventh that has been approved for use in the US. But in some ways, it's a first: The design, from a company called NuScale, is a small modular reactor that can be constructed at a central facility and then moved to the site where it will be operated.

I think the problem is that for things like AI and appearance scientists are trying way too hard for things like 7 trillion parameters to pass the Turing test and ultra lifelike animatronic faces that will never leave uncanny valley instead of trying to put things together now, because the current industry-grade robots look like anorexic Daleks and are generally about as intelligent as a roomba. If there was a concentrated effort into an actual working robot that used something like treads and arms I think it would go farther than anyone would think even if it ended at the prototype stage

Getting the right sort of AI. We don't know what the right approach is yet.
But...
>Also how do we make them NOT creepy as fuck?
An artificial cerebellum will go a long way to fix that. The cerebellum is almost a special coprocessor in your brain that is responsible for motor control, and an artificial one will make robots behave much more lifelike (and be a whole lot safer too).
It's not an easy problem (due to the crazy internal connectivity needed) but it's much easier than the AI problem, to the point where there are people who have a viable idea how to do it. I saw videos of limited cut down versions a few years back.

The fact is that your robot wife most likely will be running linux
Sadly, since LINUS TORVALDS refused to adopt the ANTI TIVOIZATION CLAUSE by upgrading to GPLv3 the system will be too locked down for you to mod your wife
>>
>>88002738

Realistically speaking, what is the marketing value in locking down a sex robot when the customer is already dropping maybe 10k+ on the damn thing? The value in having a robot wife over a real one is primarily in the fact that it's a one time cost.

>as far as a timeline goes what are we thinking /g/ bros?
There are some fundamental things you'd expect a proper wife to do that are still unsolved. Just moving around an apartment, opening and closing doors etc for a bipedal robot is incredibly hard. Atlas by Boston dynamics is impressive but fails in new environments. So just movement is not solved.
Once you've solved movement, you have a thousand other mechanical things to do, like using tools and cooking. Robots can do it, but they often have to be very specialized. Creating a robot that can do many different tasks with just mechanical hands is extremely difficult.
On the topic of mechanical hands, grasping, lifting, and holding arbitrary objects is still far from solved.
Then you have the problem of natural skin, which also seems far away. An AI that you can talk to, with believable text-to-speech, is pretty good now.
>>
>>88008173
What I'm trying to say here is that it's very, very far away. Don't even bother waiting for it, imho.
>>
>>88008173

>tools and cooking
I think for a lot of people, just having a conversational sex robot would be sufficient until further development is perfected. If she can fuck you, cuddle you, and tell you she loves you, you've got maybe 80% of what people want in their wives.

I've been thinking about this too. IMO, the biggest issues are (1) no software can fool anyone into thinking it's a human over the long term, and (2) there isn't a way yet to "connect" hardware sensors and software responses.
More of a breakdown:

>Ability to understand statements from the user, infer things from them, remember them, and "think" of normal responses to them.
Largest issue by far. You don't want the waifubot asking "have you talked to them lately?" or "want spaghetti for dinner?" after you said you're sad you went to your parent's funeral a week ago.

>Ability to use environmental cues (time since last spoken to, what the user said they're doing now, etc.) to determine whether it needs to start conversation, instead of the "question and answer" approach of current AIs.
Pretty major issue.

>Ability to move around rooms that aren't empty in a human-like way.
Major issue. Bipedal motion is pretty difficult to implement, that's why Boston Dynamics makes quadropeds. I'm sure /mlp/ is thrilled.

>Ability to state ideas in "convincingly human" ways.
Smaller issue. Some AIs have gotten pretty good at this (like AI Dungeon). It's figuring out what they "should" say that's keeping them back.

>Computer vision that's good enough to move around an apartment or house safely, even if it doesn't interact with much anything.
Smaller issue. Depth sensors can be helpful for determining surroundings (look at Tesla), and they could help segment objects from an camera. And some AIs are already good at determining what objects are.

>Power source
Minor. Something the size of a car battery could be used, and would also help stabilize the midsection. Recapturing energy from the servos braking would also help.

Compute performance and battery technology are the main limiting factors. The rich will probably get them in another decade or so and the rest of us will spend even more decades waiting for the technology to become commercially viable for the price to drop from a couple million to just a few thousand.

>"Atlas is 5 feet tall (1.5m) and weighs 190 pounds (85kg). Atlas is battery-powered and hydraulically actuated with 20 degrees of freedom. It has RGB cameras and depth sensors which provide input to its control system. All the computation required for control perception and estimation happen in three onboard computers."

>Largest issue by far. You don't want the waifubot asking "have you talked to them lately?" or "want spaghetti for dinner?" after you said you're sad you went to your parent's funeral a week ago.

That's a new input associated with the "death theme" so it would know not to ask about it until you bring it on.

> Pretty major issue.
Not that hard. We're pretty predictive, it'd learn our patterns and strike a conversation in an adequate time if we didn't spoke to it after some time.

>Major issue. Bipedal motion is pretty difficult to implement, that's why Boston Dynamics makes quadropeds. I'm sure /mlp/ is thrilled.
Fucking japan android from 10 years ago know how to walk. I can't believe how we don't just "copy/paste" that instead of reinventing the wheel.

>Smaller issue. Depth sensors can be helpful for determining surroundings (look at Tesla), and they could help segment objects from an camera. And some AIs are already good at determining what objects are.

This and robot cleaners are already doing that.

It just need to charge itself when the battery gets lower than a certain threshold.

>Software is the easiest problem.
Depends on how you are approaching the robot's AI. If you want it to be conscious, then the software issue is, at least right now, incomprehensibly more difficult that the battery since no one knows how consciousness works or how to recreate it. But even if you are fine with a chatbot in a body that can also do work, then that's still about as complicated as making a small but sufficient power source.

We'd need startup capital. Also, there aren't exactly a lot of people here who are familiar with natural language processing and such.

I'm going to think about this for a few days.

If the power source was the only significant problem, then we all would be already enjoying our lives with robowaifus, just connected directly to mains via outlets in ceiling like bumpcars or something.
>>
>>87995011
Tell it to me straight, anons. In a realistic scenario, will we have robowaifus in the next 10 years? What about 20?
>>

Already working on it, except on software part.
Not sure why do you guys focus so much attention on robotics R&D. This shit is expensive and requires a lot of tools and often technology/machines that are not simply available to public(yet). And even if you manage to reach the state of the art imitation of skin and flesh, without good software it will not be much more than just good quality sex doll but with some motors inside.
While developing software is free. If you got a VR/AR headset you can even simulate how would she appear in the world and maybe even go as far as to simulate physics and robot body without having to even touch soldering station.
Yes, the end goal still would be an companion android, but starting from hardware puts a really nasty obstacle for anyone to contribute and for the project to even start.

Starting from hardware is the only way to start the problem, anything else is wasted effort. You will run into a million problems and solutions working with real hardware that will drive innovation on it's own.
>>

>f you got a VR/AR headset you can even simulate how would she appear in the world and maybe even go as far as to simulate physics and robot body without having to even touch soldering station.
May be biased as my day job is in Sim2Real, but this is true. Iteration on robotics is impossible outside the simulator these days. If you grant that some degree of ML is needed, then you need simulation so you can train at many times real time.

If the robots waifus would not be sapient then they’d be unable to fill the need for companionship.
If they were sapient, it would be unethical to force them into a relationship of slavery and they’d be free to reject you (or if slavery was on the menu then conceivably willing to fuck you over like a regular woman could in the same situation)

Sillicon ass and tits and fluid mechanical movements. Matters

Is t there already sufficient market of masturbation aids? I think what is actually absent is kind faces that will tell Anon they love them and want to see them smile in a way that Anon will find convincing.
Although to be fair I wouldn’t mind help around the house but then making it too horny inducing would mean more stress on it(her?) so something like pic related might be better choice (inb4 where do you think you are)
>>
>>88028247
I think the main thing would be the robot muscles, it should be just motors cause then it wouldn't be soft and it'd make noise every time it moves. A robot muscle being a material that expands and contracts when you apply electricity.

I met one once. She found me revolting but looked me over while determining at what conditions she could put up with my not so good looks.

>there isn't a way yet to "connect" hardware sensors and software responses
Sure there is. What do you think happens in reactive robots? There's a need for an upgrade of the control system from what's currently usually used by robotics engineers, but it's not a vast issue.
>Bipedal motion is pretty difficult to implement
Not especially, not much more than a balance wheel. The trick is that it is a dynamic thing.
Standing still on two feet is harder, requiring more fine motor control.

Sorting out higher-level AI is much much harder, especially in terms of making it understand time. Almost everyone doing machine learning omits time if they can, and that results in AIs that can't handle handle any sort of situational dynamics beyond the most basic.

What about google meena? pajeets are already trying to make something similar, and when they eventually make it we can just fork it and put it into a waifu. Honestly the simpler the personality the better I don't want they to remember me what real people are like.

>>
>>87995011
How they scare you? they are cute
>>
>>88035603
There is huge and fundamental difference between chat bots that just take a conversation and predict a plausible response and actual AI that has its own thought process and can experience life. These are required for any sort of companionship to be present, that won't deteriorate in matter of days/hours like in case of Replika.
I've spend quite a lot working with GPT-based AIs. And even if they can appear "sentient" from short snippets, they are really nothing more than very complex, fuzzy text lookup and generation. This could definitely be used as a mean for an AI to put its thoughts into words, but it really is just a surface and lacks something more deeper and fundamental, the sentience.

Absolutely never.

Roasties are going to legislate them out of existence after it becomes clear that they can't compete.

Why do you think the 'fat acceptance' movement is so mainstream? It's just women encouraging other women to take themselves out of the dating pool.
>>
>>88041612
I thought about that.
When it comes to profits vs some bullshit profits win every time.
>>
>>88041722
If that were true, prostitution would be legal.

Here's another example: why are so many women going all 'yaaas kween' and encouraging their friend to make OnlyFans accounts? Because no man wants to romance a whore. They are sabotaging their competitors.

Actual prostitutes, on the other hand, are a real threat to them. A man who can empty his balls for money will generally choose to do so rather than go through the bullshit of courting a mediocre woman to get his dick wet. OnlyFans does not displace that in the same way that physical whores do.
