• Extensive PMP Guide:
https://azalush5.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/01/dap-comparison-2022-01

• Why use a PMP instead of a phone?

If I just got an S21 FE, should I just get galaxy buds? About to pull the trigger on pic related for some TWS buds

Because there's not a single alternative with significant improvement until you enter kilobuck range

>>
>>87470935
As someone just wading in the shallow waters of EQ, I find what it offers is personalization. For me, I prefer darker treble, whereas most IEMs are tuned bright. I leave most else untouched, and only tune down treble peaks. Target bass is usually too weak for me, might be resulting in the "tinny" sound you describe. an amplifier is an electronic device that raises the voltage and/or current of an input signal, normally expected to do so proportionally to the input signal. in audio, a preamplifier raises the level of a signal coming from one component and sends it to another. a power amplifier raises the level of a signal for the purpose of driving an output transducer, such as speakers or headphones. for example, a microphone preamp raises the weak signal coming from a microphone up to line level, and a phonograph preamp raises the weak signal coming from the turntable cartridge up to line level.

Got me picrel. In short, it's shit.
Main problem is their fit, shells are very big and weirdly shaped. I guess they've tried to design it so it perfectly fits auricles but since human ears slightly differ from person to person and plastic isn't exactly flexible, they just don't. There's only one very specific way you can insert them, so specific in fact, that I can feel significant difference in fit between my left and right ears, something I never had with any other iems, even with big plastic shells (namely edx and cra(p)).
Naturally, shit fit implies shit seal, which implies shit bass. And that really is the case! Even fr graphs found online show toned down bass but in reality it's basically non-existent, w/ eq bass appears to the degree of not sounding like hi-pass filter was applied but it's by no means punchy or engaging, even stock chu shits on it. Also they're VERY non-linear, past 2k there are audible peaks and dips every 2 octaves and it makes a lot of music sound very wrong.
Only two things going for them are cute girl on the box (though even here they're mogged by memedrop girls that are way cuter) and absence of mud/overall clarity. So if you want neutralish sound signature, your 12$ would be much better spent on quarks, thanks for reading my blog.

Some details to note that I have not heard brought up. The EDA shell (pictured on the right) is a new design. It is not as contoured as DQ6/CRN, but also not completely smooth and bulbous like CRA. There is a small hump on the upper ridge, the middle part is contoured to be slimmer, and the bottom "V" part of the shell is broader, but less pronounced/poke-y. All around, it is a slightly slimmer profile than CRA. Time will tell if these are comfortable changes for my ears (also sound impressions to come)

On what? Your phone? If it's android you need usb audio player pro or one of the other music players that plays well with the apple dongle. If it's an iPhone obviously the dongle is plug and play.
Any way the answer to your question depends entirely on how you listen to music and if you want/need it on a separate device.

Ok friends KZ EDA "Blanced" impressions and comparison vs CCA CRA. Listened to with the same cable & dongle, white KZ Starlines fit normally on both (CRA did not ship with Starlines iirc):
>Bass
Big win for EDA. A lot more pleasant to listen to across all frequencies because of the better restrained bass. Back-to-back listens leaves CRA sounding bloated, whereas EDA is spot on balancing accuracy and thump
>Mids
A tie, so similar. More is revealed in mids, imo from the reduced bass. Male vocals sound a touch more natural in EDA, rather than so recessed like in CRA
>Highs
EDA edges a win. I am treble sensitive, so most IEMs turn sibilant at reasonable listening levels. Not much is different with the EDA. However, I will say that on back-to-back listens, CRA undoubtedly is even a touch hotter. Both retain muh kilobuck treble extension and air, beautiful instruments and female high vocals
>Final Thoughts
EDA Balanced is really great. New resin shell shape is good. Comfort is subjective, but I feel that the more streamlined shape should fit better for most. It is several mm "flatter" so it can sit closer in-ear. For the money & especially if you don't already own CRA, I am confident in recommending that you should skip it for EDA Balanced. The bass is the biggest difference, big win for EDA. For $5-10 delta, it is the better IEM

>>87478255
KZ EDA Balanced BTFOs them across the board. They cost $20. The included cable and tips are fine. This is how good IEMs are compared to headphones. Without a DAC dongle, you have questionable, inconsistent audio quality across your devices, but w/e do what you want. If you want to spend $60-80 range for not much improvement and still the potential to break/lose your IEMs then sure

One thing I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard the CHU you dry
Keep that in mind, I redeemes this rhyme
To shill in due time
All I know
Apple dongle is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pajeet swings
Watch it die down by the end of the day
The clock ticks dads life away
It's so unreal

Didn't look out below
Watch india go right out the window
Tryin' to hold on, did-didn't even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go

that's me, but it seems that early illuminations had NO filters! one of the things i confirmed before ordering was that the current ones don't just have a gaping open hole through the nozzle.

Anyone have a solution for >>87486137 ?
>>
>>87486681
yeah, get an IEMatch or an ear buddy. or any other inline attenuator.
>>
>>87486698
oh, you said bluetooth. nevermind. i guess you could double-check your gain staging and make sure you're sending as loud a signal as possible to them to have the best chance of pushing the noise floor down in comparison to the signal.

where they really went wrong is the silver CRA metal part. If it had been all smoothed clear, with the full diamond pattern across the face it would be tolerable and unique. The metal "accent" throws it all off and cheapens it even more

that still didn't work, damn
My IEMs are the ZSN Pro Xs. Are they defective, or is this just inherent due to the relatively low impedance?
Could I solve this problem by just getting new earbuds, e.g. the CCA LYRAs?
>>
>>87486879
nearly all bluetooth receivers produce some noise like that, and use a noise gate like the one you described to suppress it. the impedance is really not particularly important.

Pos IEMs, pos bluetooth. You hear noise floor because BT is impossible to be absent of wireless noise floor. Old, overly-sensitive & shouty IEMs only worsen your problem, sorry friend. Pls redeem quality Buds TWS or listen wired with better $20 option like EDA Balanced/CCA Lyra
>>
>>87486137
An alternate solution would be to use a Qudelix 5K or ES100. No hiss during silent parts of tracks even on the most sensitive IEMs. I've also got a Fiio UTWS3 and don't recall hearing hiss from it.

I know thread is almost dead and this is /iemg/ but i trust y'all opinions at least to guide me in the right direction for research. Are any kf you into vinyl? My turntable crapped out which was a cheap gift from years back, any good ones you can recommend me?

Thanks for the recs, I'll look into getting it for my PC but a solution that works for every device would be better

Then I'd still recommend the Qudelix 5K. It can plug into a computer or phone through USB C and work as a USB DAC. It also has a battery and can connect to up to two Bluetooth sources at once and automatically switches between these 3 sources as they start and stop playing.
ES100 has the same deal but it's a little clunkier since it's Micro USB and restarts itself when USB is plugged or unplugged. The 5K also has a 10 band graphic or parametric equalizer that applies to all sources, while the ES100 is 10 band graphic only. Both are good devices but the 5K is the better experience overall unless you have a strong preference for the ES100's AKM DAC vs the 5K's Sabre DAC.

Fuck sharur, he gave me shit for liking vinyl becauseit wasn't "hi-fi". But i just want a good turn table to have and not worry about it breaking down. Just had some nasic entry level audiotechica shit

>Vinyl literally just serves as a red flag for insufferable hipsters, do NOT take it seriously
I don't, but i like the idea of having post-apocalyptic friendly media. Half the reason i bought up a DAP, nice speakers and a fuckton of HDDs is to just have shit incase everything falld apart. And im not into boomer music i mostly have electro swing and jazz albums on vinyl so it tickles my fancy. I know it's a meme format but i just want a decent all around TT for the purpose

Chu.
