Tourist here
I've been an iToddler all my life, but now that I'm getting a new phone after 7 years, I'm wondering if I should switch to Android

Should I go for an iPhone 13 or a Samsung S22?
I always hear about how superior Android is, but can someone give me a qrd on why?
I also want to go for red instead of black or white now, so I am reluctant to go with Samsung, even if it is autistic
>>
>>86932175
Really comes down to Android giving you much more freedom, but if you're in the iOS ecosystem already sticking to it might still benefit you

Most Android builds can't even play media (including simple in-app sounds) while on a phone call, Perhaps it's not a big deal for you but for me it was glaringly stupid design choice with no option to turn it off.

what >>86932215 said

if youre getting a samsung i recommend debloating it. samsung is notorious for bloatware. also if you arent dependant on google apps or services id recommend completely deleting google play store & google play services and switching to F-Droid. if you want to use an app from the google play store and it isnt on F-Droid then download Aurora Store from F-Droid, its a google play store front end which isnt dependant on google play services.
>>
>>86932287
i forgot to mention why delete google play store & services:

it has complete control over your phone and it tracks you to shit. if you dont care about spyware, it still uses up half your battery. after debloating my android and removing google play store & services i got atleast 5+ hours of battery life

Assuming the processor is good enough that everything's snappy and the battery hasn't gone to shit, is there any reason to upgrade from a phone that isn't receiving updates anymore.
I've got a Pocophone F1 which honestly serves me very well but it's last security patch was in December 2020, should I be worried at all?
Plus I've heard unflattering things about Android's newest version.

https://www.mobilereviews-eh.ca/body-glove-satin-and-dropsuit-review-iphone-6s-cases/
Problem is I can't seem to find a similar case from them. All they seem to have now is waterproof cases, which I don't want. Any recommendations for a similar case? I might just get a Pelican or Otterbox since they're close enough, but I really liked the deep ridges of my old case.
>>
I give up trying to get replaceable battery or a headphone jack

I just need something that won't lag while web browsing with shitty bloated Chrome, and I guess a decent camera (but all phones seem to have so much better than dedicated digital cameras with larger lens a decade ago)

Is there anyway to go wrong just getting a Samsung S20 FE for CAD$699 (approx US$545) off Amazon? I don't even need 5G since lol Canada, but the A52s isn't available in Canada so if I buy that off amazon prob no warranty
I assume there must be a way to get rid of bloat software from any brand

If I have multiple possible sources the audio widget craps itself and says “nothing to resume” and so on.

2 questions for someone buying their first phone and phoneplan -

A) Any recommendations on a phone plan in the US? The biggest thing I'm looking for is unlimited data and maybe 5G if I can get it for a good deal. I would like something that is not super gay like Verizon as I have been looking at chink phones as of late. As for budget? I really would like to get the best deal that I can. I don't want anything all too special, especially the fact I don't plan to buy into those "new phone every couple of years" bullshit. Under $100 would be preferable. Though I'm willing to go over if its a damn good deal. Only 1 line btw.

B) I have a budget of $300 dollars for a phone. Its flexible but I'd rather not go too far above. Really looking for the best cost to performance. I enjoy emulation and such but most important to me is having something that will last me a good while. Typically I use my devices for listening to music reading books, emulation here and there, I also do a lot of media consumption before bed. Would be nice if I could have something I can rice and tinker with, though I know with chink phones (which seem to be the best cost to performance) OS replacements can be a bit shoddy. I don't really care about camera quality, expandable storage would be cool but not required, speaker quality is whatever, 3.5mm jack would be nice, size is w/e but I do love me my big ass phones the note series was cool as hell, waterproof would be nice, and a nice screen quality would be really appreciated. If its not a huge ask, I would like a phone I can get a good case for. Don't want to drop it and destroy it in a week. Looking to keep it for a long long time. Can't seem to find a case for the chink phones I looked at.

I hope this is enough information, all suggestions are appreciated. Never had to think about this stuff before, but now I'm an adult with adult dollars and need to.

Sure it's overpriced as shit but there isn't a notch/hole free alternative with a jack in this price range is there?
I don't care about screen refresh rate or soc power since I don't play games on my phone.
>>

>>86946660
There's the rog 5s. Looks gaymer but has a much better battery life, no notch, better speakers, better audio jack that's supported by a quad dac and a better aspect ratio than these long phones. Snoys tend to heat up quickly and if you use their cameras the app will just shut down within a minute on normal weather and under 10 seconds if it's even remotely hot around you. I've used chinkphones with better thermals and snappier UI than Xperias
>>
>>86946688
Gsmarena review says it doesn't throttle at least even with synthetic benchmarks. I bought the 5 iii last year but that really got hot often and battery life was unsatisfactory so ended up returning it.

But I didn't know about the rog 5s, thanks, but it seems in europe they only sell the highest specced version for 1k euros... I guess I'll look into other retailers or gray import.

>>
>>86946128

>>
>>86946810
They(Qualcomm) are stuck using arm's shitty X1 cores and those cores are very hot, they would work well in an actively cooled device but suck in a passively cooled phone. All chips with X cores suck dick even googles tensor which is an underclocked version, and even mediatek's chips aren't impressive even with them being on tsmc nodes.

What smartphones have a 'neutral' camera?
As in, a camera that looks the most realistic rather than fucking around with color saturation and sharpening.
I know all smartphones do that to some degree but which ones are the least offensive?

Apple has Styles that you can use to adjust photos

Same thing with Samsung, since they have filters you can use. Samsungs algorithm sometimes oversaturates reds and blues but I often use its "Cool" filter to reduce saturation to a minimum

>>
>>86946732

Partly because of the 4k screen which eats way more battery and the other part is just the difference in SoC power.
The 8Gen1 is notorious for being kind of a battery hog, but generally a mid-tier SoC will do better on battery, even if the high-end stuff is more efficient, just because the SoC is that much less powerful. It's what made the Pixel 3a such a battery champ for its time: the SoC it used was just that much less powerful.
>>
So my Gear Sport watch got water damage today at last, seems to not be completely dead but the screen is currently blank.
My last bet is to open it up and see if letting the thing air dry will do the job otherwise my options are either to just buy a preowned replacement and roll the dice on that or decide to upgrade to something new.

So on that note, what are some watches that might make a good replacement? My main asks are (in order of preference):
>Decent battery (ideally 3 days minimum, so this basically means the GW4 is out as an option)
>Good at fitness tracking
>Has voice assistant
>Raised bezel design to protect the screen (also I fucking loved the rotating bezel on the gear sport)
>Has some form of maps support (I use it for directions when riding my bike)
>Can handle notifications well (i.e. can reply to shit and read more than just the first line of an email)

Probably looking around the £200 mark here in the UK. Currently seems like the ticwatch 3 pro might be best, but open to suggestions.

Is the Poco X3 Pro is the mid range king for a 300$ budget?

I think it's completely understandable that you are having trouble adapting to android. How long have you been using the S21?
Also, if you are not really using the "freedom" android allows you like sideloading apps or custom ROMs then you are not going to miss that.

I have never damaged a smartphone. I have accidentally flung them across the room into the wall or dropped them onto tile and the worst that has happened is that the corner of the frame got slightly scuffed. I haven't used a case in years.
How the fuck do people break them?

I mainly got the phone for 120hz and for the novelty. iPhone 13 only has 60hz and Pro is too expensive.
I don't know what to do with the freedom. Although it might sound like cuckshit, I really like how simple and restricted Apple is. It's just a phone, nothing more nothing less.
But letting go of the 120hz is the bigger dilemma for me. All of my friends have Androids so I wanted to "join in", I particularly liked how one of them customised his shit to look like a vidya character's phone.

Everything sound great on paper but I still don't "get it". It's like something is missing and I can't put my finger on it.

I understand completely, I'm looking into the possibility of switching to ios but I'm still not 100% sure. I only really got into customizing android like 2 times and while sideloading apps is great, Most of the apps I use I won't really miss that much if I lose them.
I say stay with your S21 for a while and wait for the next iphone to drop, if you still don't like Android you can always pick an iphone 13 (probably, I'm not to familiar with apple's price drops) cheaper.

Poco F3 is a tiny bit more and has amoled, imo a worthy screen upgrade on a phone. Either should be great though. I bought my bro a poco x3 nfc in 2020 and debloated the stock ROM before giving it to him and he loves it, says he only has to charge it every 2 days and says it has a nice camera. Been using a mi 9t pro myself and I still don't see myself getting a new phone for years

You may just be a minimalist. You don't need the freedom because it's just a phone, and you want to pinpoint your need instead of having a backpack full of swiss army knives with you at all times.

Samsung phones come quite bloated with preinstalled shit that aren't always removable. I feel like with any android phone going through the debloating process and then going through every customization menu for an hour or two to remove shit you'll never ever use. Like most android phones will have like 20 quick settings tile with everything like screen recording, airplane mode, wifi hotspot, 2 different battery saver modes, screenshot, sync, etcetc. All those things you never fuckin hit but are in the way of quickly finding the flashlight or whatever. Apple just gives you a bare minimum and tells you that you don't need more, while android dogpiles you with options you may not want. It's great if you remove literally everything from Android besides what you need, and get every little annoyance toggled off, shit like new apps appearing on your home screen when you want that shit locked down etc, if you ignore all those annoyances and just live with them instead of customizing them you'll never enjoy that phone.

How's MIUI? Everyone says it's cancer but is it smooth and snappy after debloating?
>>
how hard is it to crack and Android 12 phone when you physically have it without factory resetting compared to an iPhone?
>>
>>86955471
>bloatware
yeah I just bundled those up in a folder called "Useless Shit". The debloating process sounds nauseating
>>
>>86955503
Are you talking about zero-day brokers? or do you mean your average joe schmo? your average joe can't crack either of them.

I feel like miui 12 is a massive improvement over 10 and 11, I find no reason to get anything else and all of my family is using it and Xiaomi phones. The day they added the app drawer to the stock launcher suddenly it's not so different from the other android UIs. Pretty much my whole family has SD845 or w/e phones with 6+ gb RAM going strong for a couple years now and all of their phones were like $300 each, pretty sweet deal. You definitely have to go through the settings or use a debloater though, like every other android phone

>>86955510
If you use a tool called "universal android debloater" it's very simplified, just a line of checkboxes of safe stuff with descriptions of what you're removing.

just get any gaming phone with at least sd855 cpu + razer kishi or similar controllers
as for jewgle fi, it should work as long as the phone supports t-mobile's specific network bands

What >>86955692 said. I picked up a razer Kishi and turned a spare phone into a gaming console with a console launcher. RetroArch works beautifully and these controllers work off usb-c so there's next to no latency. Doesn't work with genshin impact though - no controller support on Android for that game.

don't mean the crack addict that stole my last phone, if someone was more interested in hacking my shit (not uncle Sam) just above average skills. would it be harder for him to hack an iPhone or something?
>>
>>86955844
>just above average
It would be the same for both then, impossible.
modern android phones and iphones tie access have security measures that defeat even factory resetting.
