It has one lousy modulation slider. I think need some mappable knobs. I can't decide between the choices i have here though .1. Buy a knob controller2. Make your own knob controller3. Buy another midi keyboard that has mappable controls, but is 32 keys, because of space.

>>86907565>did you use third party libraries at all? I'm on top of getting ITB results that are indistinguishable man, its an addiction to me, it's a serious problem in my life. But, i can tell you that fucking nothing holds a candle, and very ew things come even within the same realm of nebula 4 with Tim Petherick, Cupwise, and alexB libraries. Plus azzimov's skins?? ooooof. I hate the damn plugin, fuck the company, but i look at it as a worthwhile price to pay for the sheer results you can achieve ITB with those devs libraries.I used a few 3rd party ones, hard to remember the name of each one as it was nearly 7 years ago, alexB, Henry Oolonga, plenty of tape and weird cassette deck captures. I agree it's hard to overstate the return in audio quality. Even back then in its buggy state, engineers were selling off entire studios in favor of this. >The only possible comparison to nebula I've touched or found is external DSPing expansions, like UAD, apogee, etc. But, with audiogridder? shit man, a mac mini c2d from 08 or 09 has me able to run 2-10 or so instances of nebula per track on 12 track projects. no freezing, no dropout, never above 75% cpu, no bouncing tracks. idk, sorry im autistic and passionate about thisThis audiogridder thing looks pretty cool, I didn't really catch how it works, does it supply the server side, couldn't see a payment plan? I'm kinda icky about proprietary Apogee/UAD stuff as well as iLok companies like Softube. Kazrog's True Iron, Analog Obsession and NoiseAsh have some VST plugs that find their way into my workflow, NoiseAsh's Pultec is incredible imho if you just want the ridiculous pleasing air boost thing. There are some amp and gear impulse responses out there that can be used and abused to add grit and 3D to a signal as well.

Do I just have brainrot or why can't I get started making music in Reaper? I used to make music in GarageBand when I was 12. I have used Reaper for years for random shit and learning how DAWs work, but I haven't actually managed to get up a basic setup of musical instrument plugins so that I could actually start making music.A few years ago I installed free Kontakt Player but setting it up was so freaking convoluted with all the registrations and multi-track routing that I gave up. I've also tried TX16Wx sampler and downloading random sample packs off the internet, but browsing through sounds in file browser is clunky and pretty much doesn't even work in default state unless you know which of the 50 unlabeled buttons to press.I like how Reaper is lightweight and has powerful features and I have quite bit or experience with it so I don't want to abadon it, but holy shit at this point I just need something user friendly that works out of the box with a reasonable collection of sounds, because my brainrot can't handle it otherwise. Be it plugins or DAW.Here's a piece I made when I was 13: https://files.catbox.moe/3uer5y.mp3
>>86912346try hardware. mc101, polyend tracker, circuit rhythm. watch youtube videos to get an idea of what the workflow is like and which you'd prefer, get it, starting making music away from a computer or a phone, when you're comfortable record it back into Reaper or recreate it in Reaper.
Why do a lot of modern DAWs have shitty external midi support like FL for example. I started using Cakewalk and it is great for me since it can do sysex and has proper midi which is really nice for programming synths or using romplers and its free on top of that.

i wish there was a way to smooth out pitch bends done with a computer keyboard/button. like i should be able to trigger an envelope style LFO attached to detune or something... currently i have two keys set up to send CC mapped to pitch bend but it just absolutely and instantaneously moves to the bent position instead of sliding there. so it becomes more of a momentary transpose button rather than vibrato control.
>>86915632I’m sure there are max devices to trigger that, and ableton also has an automation smooth option (I’d imagine other daws do as wel)

>ctrl-f>sunvox>phrase not foundReally?
>>86921130it's cool and all, but the default interface is too compromised by the Touch UI and just sucks on anything productive (i.e., not any touch interface). It really needs a lot of work to compete on UI vs. Renoise or the new hardware trackers. Even something like the edit step: sunvox has +1/-1 hotkeys and a touch UI for 0..16 below the lock icon. Renoise has an equivalent mouse UI but also hotkeys to set a specific edit step. The m8 doesn't have edit steps at all but is fast enough to use that you don't mind. The polyend tracker has an edit step soft key and then you can +1/-1 the value with the jogwheel or use the grid to enter an exact value. Summary: the sunvox has the shittiest keyboard option and a tolerable mouse option. Renoise+polyend let you instantly switch between common edit steps. Result: the first fucking thing you do, lay down some basic drums (edit step 4, edit step 8, edit step 2), is frustrating on sunvox unless you're using an android and don't notice because everything's equally frustrating.

>>86953200It feels like months ago. He made some sick parody jams on the quick and the voice sounded spot on, but he never admitted to being him -- he just avoided the question.
This looks cool, it's a modular trackerhttp://jeskola.net/buzz/
>>86949337>hurr durrThe updates are free, and they're free since Logic Pro X got released 9 fucking years ago.
I like Ableton.Thats all.
>>86909078The main synth is much too loud in the mix, also the track gives the impression of going nowhere
>bought Vertigo VSM-3 for $20Great saturation plugin, useful on everything and quite tweakable. I like it better than Decapitator or Black Box HG-2 so far.
>>86953568Still paid 200 dollars making it not free, release date doesn't change that.
>>86907673What's wrong with lmms?
>>86954160The GUI is unresponsive and unintuitive, the workflow too closely resembles Fruity Loops (and Fruity Loops has an objective unproductive workflow, the whole "everything is a midi loop and you need to make a new similar midi loop for an instrument to throw variations into your tracks" workflow) except it lacks the cool parts of the Fruity Loops workflow like the channel rack. Not to mention it generally lacks a lot of features.
>>86953242>https://vocaroo.com/1ay5qDZH0eRjcomposition aside, the first thing that jumped out was how overly bright and forward you left everything- the lacks any sense of depth because of itfor stuff like those little noise effects and sustained strings for example: if you shelved out the highs heavily, lowered the volume, and added a dash of reverb or echo you'd instantly have a sense of space in this track; the song is okay but if you applied that concept everywhere I think you'd have something a lot nicer
>>86953730We're talking about the updates, big boy>inb4 yeah but you paid $200 so it's not freeAbleton users paid a ton in updates since 2013 lol
any good opensource software related yet?

Bros I keep getting a *stange* feel and falling asleep at weird hours during the day and it keeps getting in the way of music and it feels bad!I heard there are like pills to prevent this from happening have you ever had this problem before...?I don’t like writing at night because the moon gives me power and my songs feel less angry because no conflict(Bump)
>>86956409Have you tried taking 30 min naps? Or drinking tea?Don't do drugs dumbass.
>>86956446Yeah 30 minutes sometimes turns to 3 hours though it’s dangerous...Caffeine doesn’t help keep me up I didn’t have this problem until I stopped taking drugs though! (Drug drugs, antidepressants actually made it literally 10 times worse)
>>86956409Losing power for two days did me some good.. could you force yourself not to turn on lights and look at computer screens when it gets dark?
>>86956542Well I can try... im avoiding sitting in my bed without the intention of sleeping to help the conditioning etcAlso I just put up e-girl lights so keeping it dark will be easier now

Very excited. Got an electric guitar. Boys we are gonna get some ROCK in this album, or I'm a faggot: and I didn't buy lube
>>86958065>didn't buy lubemy favorite example of anthony kiedes in-explicitly calling somebody a faggot in scar tissue is the story of how one of their early replacement guitarists for Slovak would always wine before shows and ask "h- hey guys has anybody seen my fretease??" (fingerease or whatever that lubricant is some guys use to make their hands slide on the guitar neck easier) like bro you're playing punk in a dive right now wtf lmaothat's cool though bro new instruments are always fun :]
also I found a more explicit way to mix in dubstep in an *alternative* style over IDM type drum chops with the autotune etc and i'm calling it hyperstep for now
>>86958154>autotunehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQwgXsNv8FMEEE(YOU)You had me up until that point.
>>86958218Some will have it some will scream and some will be without vocals altogether but that’s *a little* too traditional for me- only time will tell where the people take it
>when you do the external instrument wizard lag shit and everything syncs
So is Reaper ever getting native support (ie, not a janky plugin like MPL) for retrospective record?
is th
>open old song>missing instruments, corrupted channels>somehow sounds better and more interesting than it originally did
so I slice|slice|slice with simpler a lot- i've got a workflow that works around using it like that and it's great and all but obviously the lack of being able to scrub and stretch outside of those slices once printed is a huge drawback my dream feature in ableton is something that functions exactly the same but then has an "apply to clip" function that would arrange the original audio into a new track with all automation and pitch information etc- huge bonus if it could be applied to audio that isn't the original or even the same length as welli've used da vinci resolve lightly and there's like light and marker information that you can apply to other clips and t b h it's upsetting to see so many interesting concepts in video editing not being applied to audio :'(

>>86960648lawl thanks, I’ve honestly been decent lately, just had a slightly weird mood the past few days affecting my sleepThere are specific life circumstances that make it worse but I’ve been like this since I was a child- just gotta make music about it :) :(

anyone make music with free software? what is the blender of DAWs?
>>86963055>what is the blender of DAWs?Reaper.>but it's not free!Correct, and you will never find a good FOSS DAW. It's too niche of a field with too much work required. No big companies are going to bankroll it, but it's also not something you can just make (well) in your spare time on top of a regular job.
>>86963055>>86963492Sunvox is pretty good, but is a little bit weird and lacks VST support... and I'm not entirely sure that it's open source, it might only have source released for old versions.Renoise is the more practical alternative to it.LMMS is the open source DAW that I've heard mentioned a few times here.Audacity is also... an open source application.
what is a good sampler for ableton? i’m considering using even fuckin traktor so i can slice up my incoming loops

What's the best groovebox for a retard such as myself who just wants to sit outside and fuck around making music with my partner?>inb4 teenage.retards or some other garboI said I'm a retard, not a sucker.
>>86965455Elektron Digitakt? Or simply a laptop with Ableton Live and Push 2.
>>86965455Octatrack or Polyend Tracker :)
Bump
>>86965455"sit outside and fuck around making music" is not that specific, but to narrow it down by preferring internal batteries (heavy emphasis), handheld operation, screens that won't suck in bright light, and speakers,1. the op-z (teenage engineering, honestly very good except for being made out of soft garbage components)2. the Novation Circuit Rhythm (no speaker, no handheld operation)3. the Dirtywave M8 (tracker worfklow, preorder now and you'll still not get one until some time in September)4. the Synthstrom Deluge (you're taking this thing outside?! ... well if it gets fucked up at least you can always ship it to New Zealand for maintenance, for a few hundred dollars)If the emphasis should be more on "retard" and should mean "I don't want to spend a lot of money because it will be wasted on me", forget the groovebox and get a handheld instrument like a harmonica, a kalimba, a Yamaha Venova, an Otamatone, a Cajon Box Drum.If the emphasis should be more on "retard" and should mean "I know literally nothing about music but still want to fuck around with a groovebox outside", get the Circuit Rhythm.

I know i'm consooming but how's the Roland SE-02 for a budget Moog? I know I can just use VSTs but I'd like something authentically analog and physical.
>>86972015use the fucking VST
>>86972015The Behringer Model D is cheaper and will have a more authentic Moog sound, as well as a bigger interface (the SE-02 is tiny). However the SE-02 is the second next best thing in the “budget” category if you want Moog, and it has patch memory.I’d go for the Behringer desu.
>>86972029disgusting
>>86907673no one uses eJay?
>>86972047>Model DCool, thanks for bringing that to my attention. Hard choice between the two but I think I'll try the Model D first. Then I'll go back to grinding Surge.
is it dumb for me to want to step sequence scenes/clips in Live? im thinking i might buy a Roland T-8 or Launchpad Pro then, a bit of a drag, but have to convert the note sequencer data to CCs mapped to launch scenes, and work this way.
>>86972092>is it dumb for me to want to step sequence scenes/clips in Live? No? but maybe you might like a tracker at that point.
>>86972101>trackerhmm you're right, i might be emulating that workflow without even knowing it. it may be time to download one and see if i like it.
>>86972109If you don't want to completely abandon Ableton. The Renoise team has Redux as a tracker plug-in. Though depending, Renoise itself might just be the better deal.
>>86972080Not having patch memory (like the Model D) can be a significant drawback if you’re coming from the plugin world, so the SE-02 would be the better choice if you like to browse presets or create sounds you’ll use later. But the Model D has the better sound for sure.
>>86972125im glad i posted now because Redux from Renoise looks really attractive for sample based work and honestly, i didnt want to abandon Ableton completely, as you've suggested. it might even be able to do midi too, im not sure yet.
>>86961495so much easier when you start thinking about tracks as a story that takes place in an environment. your brain is much better at remembering this sort of thing longer term
