ey how is the .net job opportunities and such? i am 2nd grade cs i might get into that.

Full stack, but leaning more on front-end.But honestly, the stacks nowadays are so over complicated that it makes more sense to have front and back specialist. Still cool to have to chance to work with two different technologies.
>Support "Developer">in reality solving incident tickets and doing SQL monkey worknot exactly what I expected but hopefully I'll be on a real dev team by the end of the year, money's pretty good in the meantime

>founder>starting from literal 0 is hard but I'll make it eventually
>>85221190just keep at it and don't let any of your employees take advantage of you. be very selective with hiring. get good people who care about the work and your vision.
>>85221203I'm small fry and just started a few months ago so I don't even have employees. I hope I can make it to that stage eventually. It's just the networking and where to find people is hard because I know no one really
NEETBeen using computers for 30 years but too autistic to get through a job interview
>>85221185but if work is optional, who opts in? How is it advantageous to do so if the fruits of your labor go to the benefits of those who don't work?Serious question. I don't know anything about socialism.

>>85221402>>85221235r / antiwork if you want to learn more. fuck the capitalist system. make the idiots work FOR YOU.
.Net programmer. I feel like my game dev skills are being wasted in a normal business environment. The work is easy, but I am destined for something more fitting. Currently taking recruiter offers to any game companies. Did stuff with facebook and Blizzard, but the coding tests are those stupid programming puzzles they take from those coding exercise sites. Wouldnt be bad if I didnt have 20 min to solve each.
>>85221402>there will always be retards who will want to slave their labour away for some pigSo your plan is to exploit people and call them retards. What could possibly go wrong.
>>85221593>my game dev skills are being wasted>Can't do a fizzbuzz in under 20 minsGame dev is actually pretty technical, anon.
>>85221658if idiots want to be milked then better their labour going to me than some pig.
>>85221687They werent using fizzbuzz. That stuff is easy. They were using that leetcode site and using hard problems. The medium one they gave me was actually very easy. The hard one was asking for me to implement a large ass function workhouse that would take at least an hour of planning then another to implement. I made sure to at least explain to them what my thought process was as I went through them. And Ive been a game dev before with a professional company. I know about all the efficiency you have to think of. But the fact I still had to do some puzzles despite my large resume tells me something isn't going right in the hiring process these companies are using. I dont seem to be the only one cause my programming peers with just as big resumes showed similar results.
>>85221691Lol that's not an ideology. You're not some enlightened rebel. You're human lint, allowed to exist only because you're too inconsequential to notice.
>>85219290Crypto NEET. I hope to gain entrance into a PhD program someday, but then again, I don't know what I'd be doing with it. If I could just learn for the sake of learning that'd be fantastic. Maybe code a thing or two in my free time, not much different from what I'm doing right now.

>>85221541no don't fucking redirect someone from 4chan to reddit if you want them to learn something political unless you want them to have the ideology of teenagers.tell them to read something like principles of communism, "wage, labour, and capital", critique of the gotha program etc. maybe if you're ancom or ansyn conquest of bread or mutual aid a factor of evolution would be more appropriate or maybe you wanna watch a documentary or something else, but the point is you're not doing yourself any favours by acting as if a subreddit is a good place to get invested in an ideology, you'll just get into the aesthetics of revolution and start posting hello kitty says acab while posting thigh pics on twitter and calling it praxis
>lawyerThere's too many lawyers out there, taking clients and money that should rightfully be mine
Software Developer, C++ HFT, <2 yrs exp., this is my 2nd job.I'm always the most junior dev on the team and I really fuckin feel it! I'm such a fucking idiot. I wonder if everybody else also thinks so or if we all go through this. I recently pushed a huge change and broke a bunch of shit on one of the exchanges. I am glad my coworkers/superiors are friendly and don't seem too bothered (and thankfully we are kinda isolated from the users). Also the dude who hired me quit immediately after and then the dude who was supposed to mentor me also quit. Dunno wtf I'm doing desu!

The tech is really interesting, though most of what I do now is act as the tech lead for several teams. Not much time for programming these days.
>>85227373I get that. I consider amazon a more noble enterprise than fb.
>>85227362>what numbering system is this?yees

>>85227373>na, I work for amazonI just got contacted by an Amazon recruiter. Do you have any tips for the interviews? It starts with a Hacker rank challenge before, I am a bit rusty with that stuff, so I am just practicing a lot of leet code after work. Any tips of how to get the job? Also how is the lay difference between US and Canada? Seems they want me to work in Canada, but it seems that US positions pay 100k more for similar roles. Is it harder to immigrate to the US than Canada?I am from a rich EU country, so I don't need to directly compete with the Indians for the visas I think.
>>85221691Reminder not working under communism in most communist countries is illegal unless you are old or disabled.
>>85227682why do it anon?
>>85227744>Do you have any tips for the interviews?I don't have many tips for the technical part of the interview as it is pretty much up to the interviewer. One thing to know though, unlike some of the other tech companies amazon actually has behavior questions in the main interview loop. All of the questions tie back to the leadership principal and mostly come from a question bank. You can probably find every question online. If not, think of examples that tie to each principal.>Seems they want me to work in Canada the recruiter is probably focused on Canada but amazon as a whole doesn't really care that much. If you get hired to can can positions pretty easily. I know people who have moved back and forth and also moved back in forth on the same team. US does pay way more in my understanding.>Is it harder to immigrate to the US than Canada?I can't speak to the details and it probably depends on what your country is, but my understanding is it way harder to get a work visa in the US. Most of the people I know who have moved from US to Canada was because they had visa issues and couldn't stay any longer.
>>85227803Because being paid minimum-wage would be much worse.
>>85227820Do you know how it would go if I do well on the interviews for the Canadian job, but I want to go to the US instead? How would that work out? Would I have to start over, or would passing the interview for one place make it so that I could choose where I want to go to, for example Seattle, NY or wherever instead?
>>85227940I don't know if international transfers are different (I don't think they are), but for a internal transfer to any openning for the same role you only need to approval of the new manager, even your old manager can't stop it really. Sometimes they will want an informal interview, but most of the time it is just a coffee meeting. I definitely know people who transferred internationally without another formal interview loop.
>>85227940there might be a time limit on internal transfers though. You should ask the recruiter
>>85228030But they transferred after working for some time at the first place.Personally I just want to go to US, make as much money as I can and then go somewhere else. Earning 100k less in Canada seems like a worse deal, as if I would transfer to the US it would take a long time to get the new visa and everything, which would make any transfer harder as well. But first I need to get through the interviews. Canada seems pretty good as well. What's the salary range for a software dev with 3-4 years of experience at Amazon? In Canada and/or US? 150k in Canada and 200-250k in US?
>>85228047I did, the recruiter kind of ignored my question when I asked if I could work in California or Seattle instead.
>>85219290graduated with a major in networking and I can't find a job still. applied for months. I even have some shitty helpdesk experience from college. what the fuck do I do. I hjave knowledge in linux, sysadmin, windows, administration, helpdesk etc and I can't get an entry level job or even interview.,
>>85228123I think 150k is right for Canada. The US salary will depend on where those 3-4 years were and how well the interview goes. 200-300 is probably more accurate. I have 4 yoe and make ~290k which is basically top of the SDE2 band and bottom of SDE3
>>85228217Thanks for the help. But no advice on how to pass the interviews? Just do well on the technical challenge and don't forget the Amazon leadership stuff? I guess I will try and reach out to FB and MS to get some competing offers if possible. Maybe they will send me to US.
>>85228172Change your CV to make your degree look more like a CS degree and you should get jobs.Highlight whatever coding stuff you did during and outside of school.
>>85219290>ex security researcher >now owns and runs liquor stores in NJ comfy job /bros/ , miss being in 5he tech field, but I'm making loads as of right now
>>85228123>and then go somewhere elseWhere would that be?I would like to go to America mostly because of the 1A so that, if I'm doxxed, I at least don't get arrested as I would in some places.
>>85228251>But no advice on how to pass the interviews?Sorry, I got nothing better than what is already online. Interviewers are given an area to probe on (like system design, data structures and algorithms, etc) and are left to their own devices to make questions. The bar and difficulty varies pretty wildly because of that. You will definitely have a system design section for 3-4 years of experience.
>>85228267it is a CS degree and I got CCNA with it as well sadly. did a lot of programming, managing servers, dealing with windows and had some linux classes that were a joke but regardless. I need to fix resume for sure.
>>85221190You have a long road ahead, my friend. You will get less sleep and every other day there will be some catastrophic problem. It is fun but also tiring and scary because it’ll feel, at times, like your life’s work is going to be ripped away from you cause you can’t find funding or some lawsuit comes in that doesn’t even make any sense and has no foundation but completely halts growth. I will repeat, it is fun and worth every minute. I hope it works out, anon.
>>85228305>Systems designThanks for the heads up. I will read up on it. It is basically just questions about how to structure a fully operational system, like a website with a frontend, backed and a DB and then load balancers and caches etc? Something like this, right?>>85228302>Where would that be?Europe or Korea. Probably Switzerland or Germany. Somewhere where you do not have to drive all the time , is relatively safe and kids can walk and bike to their school.
genuine question. will IT jobs ever become automated in our lifetime?Jobs such as Helpdesk, sysadmin, server maintenance, network engineer etc.I think for sure network engineers will not in our lifetime though I'm not sure about administration or helpdesk roles.
>>85221203This is super important. DO NOT be afraid to fire people.
>>85228308If you can't get interviews, your CV is shit. If you have a CS degree and can't get a job, your CV is absolutely trash. It is easy to fix, and if you can't do it yourself, you can pay people to fix it for you.
>>85221402See USSR.. cause that worked it really well. Ended up having to kill 10 million just to enforce work.
>>85228385how would I find these people to fix it for me cause clearly I can't lmao
>>85221727Yeah sometimes those problems are fucking insane. You have to practice a completely different type of programming to get good enough at them to get the job.>>85221687Clearly never applied to a job. They are not fizzbuzz.

>>85228588When the definition of "competitive" pay changes, it only changes for external hires. Companies have no incentive to sudden give all of the existing employees bonuses. I got promoted and am at the bottom of a salary band that new hires who have less experience and don't know how things work at the company make way more. Combine that with the fact that other companies have started paying more in general
>>85228752Why not move to another company and then go back a year later for a great salary bump? I guess having to do the interview process again might not make it guaranteed that you get accepted back into your old company?
>>85229463I already make 300k, have no student loans, and own my home (still have a mortgage). The extra 100-200k/yr sounds really nice, but I am not sure my quality of life would really change all that much with more money. On the other hand I love my job and have a great work life balance. The risk of taking a job I might like less, more stress, and get to spend less time with my family outweighs the financial gain. Especially when you consider that I am at the bottom of my salary band. My salary will probably catch up in a year or two. There is also the hit to career progression. I am new enough to my level that I probably wouldn't be able to swing an up level if I were to leave and boomerang back. That means I am potentially pausing my career progression by 1-2 years.
>>85221792I work in data science and only occasionally use SQL but most of the time I'm working on unstructured data.
>>85225181>By crypto you mean cryptography or cryptocurrencies? The latter, though I suppose I would not be opposed to the former.>What would you make your PhD about?I'm not quite sure yet. Something having to do with TCS most likely.

>>85219290QA EngineerI act as a pseudo product manager though since our product team is fucking incompetent.Cash comp is only in $115k range, but it's comfy WFH with unlimited PTO (and encouraged, I just took almost a month kek), with lots of benefits like company phone, paid internet, and weekly meals.Getting a little bit in terms of options. It's still private so they can't do anything, but CMV is like ~70kish.
>>85221541>r / antiworkah so you'd like for me to become an atheist faggot and worship niggers instead i see. well well, my dear chap, that won't happen no matter how much we agree on the shortcomings of our capitalist systems. no indeed for it was the same enlightened advocates of democracy that gave us this free market, the ones advocating the rule of the nigger now and abandonment of traditional values. i suggest you stop visiting reddit for the remainder of this year. instead, the energy you spend hatescrolling through repetitive twitter screenshots denouncing the same villains over and over again should be used in your erudition. read Marx if you think his alternative is better. see if you can refute his critiques. don't advocate a platform owned by a company that'll eventually go public in order to make more money from a system you and those 1.6m "Idlers" claim to hate. the mere idea of voting on posts, disgusting!
