10 generations later, the i5-2500k finally has a worthy successor.
>>
What were the 2500K's rightful ancestors though? The Q6600 maybe?
>>

fuck yeah!
its almost 50% more powerful at 225w!!

You meant i7 2600K, right?

For me, it's the 4770k

2011 we hit peak computing. You can easily use a 2011 computer today, even play games (albeit at very low settings). You try using a 2001 computer to run Windows 7 and play Terraria.

The Q6600 was never good, too poor single threaded performance for its >$500 price point. I'd put the E8400 as the truest ancestor of the 2500K. They were extremely common and there are still PLENTY of E8400s out in the wild today, perfectly usable for all basic tasks. They still play 1080p Youtube videos just fine.

Why does this sound like some sort of ad?
>>
if an 11600k is literally over twice as fast as my 4690k in games, and over 2.5 times as fast in encoding, then the 2500k had a worthy successor before the 12600k.
>>
>>84467198

pff, nah... the only worth succesor would be an i7 4770 or the 4790k
>>
>>84467782
Utter shite. The Q6600 outlasted any of the dual cores by a huge margin. Those faggots buying duals for muh single thread were proven wrong years ago.
>>
>>84468009
lolwut? An E8400 is infinitely more useable than a Q6600 today. A Q6600 is too slow to do most things that actually require single core performance, like 1080p video playback without hardware acceleration. An E8400 is 30-40 % faster single threaded and can just barely chug along.

there are better alternatives for this now, but it's similar to the 2500k in that it was a huge breakthrough in terms of price/performance.

E8600 is a better comparison to the 2500k. Legendary reliability. I worked as a PE in a Fab, there's a reason the brand new $250M litho machines still ran E8600s.

Strangely, I'm still playing Skyrim too.

we need more brown/grey games, like dead space and gears of war
>wall is brown/grey
>floor is brown/grey
>door is brown/grey
>skybox is brown/grey
>character is brown/grey
>enemies are brown/grey
>npcs are brown/gay
everything being brightly colored annoys the shit out of me

not even close

2500k was actually efficient, cheap, and had cheap mobos. 12600k is needs a good cooler, its almost i7 price, mobos are expensive, and lol ddr5 is out the ass expensive and not even good yet.

The Q6600 never cost $500. It cost $266, and was then cut to $224.
The Q6700 cost $530, and was cut to $266.

>TFW you guys made me curious
>Look up E8400 egay
>3€ a pop
>TFW electricity is si insanely expensive here that's not worth it
I'd buy like a thousand (exageration), undervolt them barely above stable and build a small datacenter / renderfarm in my basement for me and my friends.
>TFW I'd be bottlnecked by Internet speeds anyways
Can't have nice things here.
