Now that I think about, no CRT monitor should be capable of 1920x1440p@100hz...
>>
>I cannot fucking stand CRT screens because of their constant buzzing. I hear tinnitus-like buzzing coming out of every turned on CRT TV. Whenever I mentioned this to people I know who own(ed) a CRT TV they just say "I don't hear anything lol". I'm so fucking glad that my grandma threw away her shitty CRT 2 years ago, it was driving me insane and I always had to ask her to turn it off when I was visiting.
>I cannot believe people are actually buying this garbage just because "muh nostalgia".

I have never seen a CRT TV which doesn't whine. So yes, I can hear the whine coming from TVs.
As for PC monitors I'm not sure. I haven't seen one in almost 2 decades and all I remember is they have static building up on the screen surface and they buzz while turning on.

True, I wouldn't either if that was the case.

You're the one who said they emit a sound of that frequency. I don't know nor do I care. I just said I hear the whine.
>>
>>84467557
You said:

But 31kHz literally don't whine, unless you're mentally disabled for some reason.

>>

It’s only a matter of time before someone decides to make new “premium” CRTS for the dumbass market. And they will all fall for it.
>>
>>84467785
Can't wait, but probably not for years
>>
>>84467785
nah only broke /g/tards and similar hipsters would buy one, with the cost of setting up a new CRT factory/production line itd probably take 100 years to break even just on the fixed costs
if there was any legitimate market for CRTs, NEC would still make one, because NEC makes every other weird niche display
>>
>>84467915
with crowd funding it would be doable if there's enough interest, the quality might not be as great but production itself and mediocre workers to make mediocre tubes wouldn't cost that much
if someone just wants to make a few dozen grand profit on the side for managing the project

>if there was any legitimate market for CRTs, NEC would still make one, because NEC makes every other weird niche display
weird, you mean like every big company waiting for a successful crowdfunding campaign by someone else first before releasing a niche product themselves?
NEC has no reason to release something for miniscule profit, they are a multi million dollar company, it would be counterproductive for them if they can use the resources to make bigger profits instead

Dotronix makes new CRTs from new old stock tubes and they use custom electronics.
>>
>>84467973
They make new TVs*
CRT means Cathode Ray Tube, it's the tube you mention in your post

Nobody makes new CRTs
Making support circuitry and packaging it would be possible for anyone if they have access to tubes and a few off the shelf parts
>>
>>84467957
>NEC has no reason to release something for miniscule profit
go look at NECs product catalog, its full of displays that almost certainly mean miniscule profit for a 1.5 billion/yr company
>>
>>84467996
You're underestimating the professional screen market
The profits they make from those niche screens is easily a hundred times bigger than you'd make with CRTs selling to redditors

You're right. I understood that he lies when tried to calculate KHz with Custom Resolution Utility.
Most powerful CRT is Mitsubishi 2070SB, but it have only 140KHz. There were no CRT's on planet with 152KHz in mass market for 1920x1440*100Hz.
I hate onions liars.
>>
>>84468578
>I understood that he lies when tried to calculate KHz with Custom Resolution Utility.
He actually renders at 1920x1440, it's just that the DAC is doing 1280x1024@100Hz. In Windows you can have different render/desktop and monitor resolutions.

iiYama Vision Master Pro 514 is faster at 142khz but probably has worse amp for bandwidth and of course worse built quality.
So the Mitshubishi may handle the bandwidth better than the iiYama does and may retain sharper image. Both are rated at 390mhz though.
>>
>>84468599
How can it be possible, if his CRT does not hang it (260MHz video input bandwidth)? There is no matter in that case what kind of DAC he used. You can't ride faster if tha car can ride only 150km per hour. Where will you got 200km per hour? Let me think, because of gas type, right? That's not car, that's gasoline is wrong.

It's simply downscaling / supersampling. The signal going to the CRT is 1280x1024@100Hz, not 1920x1440@100Hz, that's just the render/desktop resolution.

So there is no reason to talking about 1920x1440*100 if it downscales anyway to 1280x1024*100, because w/o downscale it's impossible in clear resolution because of CRT tech specs.
Also, it can handle 1920x1440, but only at 75-85Hz.

That's the joke, the YouTube actually thinks it's running at 1920x1440@100Hz.

>Also, it can handle 1920x1440, but only at 75-85Hz.
Nobody talked about 85Hz, we're talking about 100Hz. Who said it can't handle 85Hz or that it can't handle 1920x1440 as a resolution with lower refresh?

Required watch for any CRTfag particularly for CRT Monitor and BVM/PVM fags.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgzVK5aYczI

The image resolution scaling on CRTs sucks just as bad as in modern displays(apart from no lag).
Dot Pitch and Horizontal Resolution(TVLines) matter especially or lower resolutions. If you have a very fine dot pitch and very high TVL then retro 240p games look like jagged crap pretty similar to LCDs instead of them being smooth like they're supposed to.

It only has one major flaw, ghosting. I knew it was fixable when I bought it, and it indeed was a rather basic thing to fix, though getting the fix to stick (issue comes back in a ~month) is stiill work in progress. I believe I've already found a permanent fix, waiting for it to redevelop the issue so I can confirm my theories.
The rest of it's "issues" are just basic calibration drifting, nothing you wouldn't expect from a 19 year old CRT. Sonys overengineering just makes them more work to fix.

Not right now, I've been a NEET for a few months. I'll unfortunately probably end up getting a job very soon though ...
For schools, I went the ammattiopisto (time waster) route, 12 years in total, not planning for higher education right now, but possibly in the future, mainly to pursue maths.

If you really want a nice CRT close by, just put up a ad with a nice CRT picture and ask politely if anyone close by has one, mention that you can compensate them a couple euros, most people still give for free, but some might ask 5 or 10 euros, still worth it if it's a good model in good condition.
There's probably plenty that are less than a couple kilometers from you right now, but those people don't bother posting them up for give away or sale, they just sit in their basements or attics. Also put the ad under "Verschenken" as "Ich suche", will get more views.

Good luck.

Most SVGA CRTs are already too good for retro and 240p, but if you can't get a decent concumer TV set it's a good alternatives anyways. You'd want something with big pitch like original VGA monitors or better old multisync ones, if not actual 15kHz monitors or TVs.

Just run ClearType calibration while using the CRT, pick the text that looks the best every time, if it looks better after calibration compared to ClearType off, then yes. For size just go smaller until you notice no difference or negative impact.
It's also PER monitor, so it can be on on one and off on another and each monitor as its own calibration.

You can *tune* cleartype for each monitor. You can't turn it off for only one of them. Meant what I said. No picarats.

Each monitor has it's own "Turn on ClearType" when you pick to calibrate it.
Maybe Windows 7 or older didn't though, but I'm pretty sure you can still just select the 0% ClearType aliasing examples turning the calibration to get no actual ClearType font on that specific monitor even in those OSes.

There's a lot, just because you don't want to play them, doesn't mean they don't exist or they are bad.
Also 480i is definitely better on a big pitch, slow phosphor screen. But 480p I could agree starts being better on AG, but I'd say it might also be totally fine on shadow masks, maybe textures and (anti) aliasing would even be better on a shadow mask, specially consoles like PS2/Xbox/GC/DC, etc.

Even if it's considered shit, it's still miles better than other high persistence monitors.

not him but many new games look good on 480i.
the big yikes is that most new games have aspect ratio limited to 16:9 or the hud and subtitles are small as fuck with no option to change them.
>>
>>84480300
The problem with 480i is more that higher end and newer CRTs have faster phosphors that make the interlace a lot more annoying. On a old TV you won't even notice interlace compared to a late VGA monitor, specially higher end ones that usually used AG.
>>
>>84480248

Fair enough, I guess I'm projecting a bit since I've never had much interest in such games.

I recommend getting one of pic related and hook it up to AC after the switch, you'll contaminate the DC rail less and also put less load on it, also 5V is nice for a 12V fan, moves air but slow enough to not be audible.
>>
>>84480930
What would be the purpose of this? I want to make the installation simple and I dont think a simple fan could disturb the monitor, there might even be unpopulated 5v/12v rails for easy access. I'll try this on my 17" Samsung and report.

Yes, you'll be better off settling for a lower refresh rate and higher resolution in most cases. The motion clarity will be the same and the smoother feel of 420Hz isn't anywhere near as big of a jump from 200Hz as 120Hz is from 60Hz.
Still, it's cool to have a 420Hz display that's 2 decades old.

Depends on the tube's phosphor duration.
I've got a few which are eye rape at 60 but others which are fine.
Generally speaking, I prefer a bit of flicker which is usually only noticeable in bright scenes to copious amounts of blur on anything that moves.

Okay, as for me it healed my gaming impotence, because now every game looks like it have a soul.
Now i can with interest to consider all of my picture library, because colors are beatiful.
The motion so smooth so there is no need in high-end LCD and there is no need in 240fps to feel it. There is no need to have an 3090ti/6900xt to touch it. Just 5700xt and every game at 1600x1200 looks beautiful with smooth motion without lags.
>>
>>84483313
over flicker and headache, yes

This too, crt will have the "phantom array effect" when the framerate doesn't match the refresh rate. VRR will be smooth the entre time as long as you're in the VRR range.
>>
>>84483307

240Hz on LCD still far away from smooth 85-100Hz on CRT, even more so you will need a high-end gpu to handle stable 240Hz.
