Want the proper "soul" experience? Get a period-accurate hard drive. If you're setting up a Windows 98 machine for nostalgia stuff, be sure to get something around 8-20 GB.
I remade close to my family's old Pentium 2, and grabbed the original 10 GB Maxtor drive it came with, and holy hell was it S-L-O-W. Installing Windows 98 was just as I remembered from childhood: an all-afternoon experience. Booting to the desktop was time to go get a coffee. Even just quitting a game you'd played a while was a chore as it redrew the desktop a few pixel rows at a time while paging things back in from disk.
Even just giving it a 250 GB mechanical hard disk made it way more bearable, but with a $30 SSD and a SATA/IDE adapter it's insane how fast it can start up and launch things.

because they are not cool and are lame
How're they lame? It does the same but without horrible seek times.
define "horrible seek time"

its lame because it is not epic like spinning magical magnets encased in gas
ok boomer
>spinning magical magnets
It's just paint with iron powder poured over a platter while it's spinning to get a reasonably even coat.
>encased in gas
Same gas you're breathing. That little hole on top of the drive that says not to cover it leads to the inside of the drive, with just a paper filter and a baffle to prevent debris getting in. In reality, a few tiny motes of dust inside the drive are no big deal. The air current made by the platters blows them away, until they eventually get caught in a separate paper filter put there to caught any stray particles. Heck, spinning the platters releases a small amount of nano metal dust over time, but it's no big deal because it gets caught in the filter.
you might need to take your meds, because thats some powerful word salad there
learn to read faggot
meds, now

>Same gas you're breathing
