>turns on at 3am
>>81459622>Having your shit plugged in when not in use
>>81459622So did the kinect.
>>81459622>scans your entire computer>generates checksums for every file>takes a screenshot of your desktop>records every connected device on your network and their respective IP and MAC addresses>uploads file checksums, network information, and screenshot to microsoft for safekeepingWhat? You thought the computer turning on and your fans blazing at 100% for 15 minutes in the middle of the night was just an accident?
Literally never did it
>>81459622yeah i noticed that shit, even on ltscalso, since i installed hyper-v, sleep turns the computer off
>>81459622What the fuck were they thinking?
>>81459747Yeah I was under the impression LTSC was update free except a couple security patches throughout the year. I put it on a laptop that sat on a shelf for a month, and when I powered it on I was hit with back to back notifications that a reboot is required for updates.wtf
>>81459622Sir you have virus
>>81459850Yeah and it couldn't have been the security patches we regularly get on LTSC that could have been the case of those updates now could it?
>>81459879this. Its called windows
>>81459902Yes Sir that's why we need to remove the virus ok Sir? We need to intsall gentoo ok? Sir please follow my instructions.
>>814598972 reboot required updates within a month? Seems excessive.
>>81460053In my experience it's pretty rare but yeah it does happen every now and then. Still prefer that over Win 10s """feature""" updates anytime.
>>81460139Fair enough. I miss (post NT 4) service packs.
My Xbox randomly turns on sometimes or makes noise like its on. Very sus
>>81459622>>81459747this is a matter of firmware. your LAN is being poked with WoL or magic packets, and you're too dumb to turn that off in BIOS or set up a firewall.
>>81459622That made me wake up once, I fucking hate Windows.
>>81459622you can turn it off xd
>>81459622I always turn off the power supply switch.
You are not in control.
>>81459622>>81459692> didn't take their meds today
>computer turns on when the entire OS is shut downdumbasses
>>81459731>generates checksums for every fileI wish. Windows might actually have a usable file system if it could detect file corruptions the way ZFS does.
>>81459622Do you people not shut down your computers?I unplug it after it is shut down as well.
>>81460842I wish Microsoft didn't shitcan their DBFS but alas here we are with ReFS and NTFS
>>81459622>THEY turn it on at 3amftfy
The NIC can receive a "magic packet" that wakes the computer out of sleep mode. I don't know where these magic packets come from but it will stop happening if you disable that in your power settings.
>>81460972This is just regular old windows scheduling the bios to boot itself. Nothing fancy.
>>81459622>turns on at 3am>auto updates to install more spyware
>opens file explorer>network usage goes to 100%
>>81460866i have like 12 notepads and a shitload of unsaved stuff open why would i shut down my computer?
>>81461522then just save the shit? how the fuck is this a problem?
>>81461584Simple. He's retarded.
>>81459622I believe this is normal for tech illiterate but I thought /g/ was the least retarded board here, guess I was wrong.
>>81459747Because when you install hyper-v your actual windows install becomes a virtual machine running on a hypervisor.
>>81460629literally just google it, iirc it's somewhere in power settings but I haven't used windows in a while
>>81460367>turn that off in BIOSi use WoL to backup my data every weekthese random wakes occur outside that>your LAN is being poked with magic packetsWAN can't broadcast to my LAN, what now>>81461696>actual windows install becomes a virtual machine running on a hypervisorstill don't see any reason why i'd have to see BIOS every time i wake up from sleepit didn't work like this when i was running linux on xen
>>81459731It's even funnier when your laptop manufacturer includes a $100 fee for Windows licensing AND you pay for the electricity required to analyze your data!LOL!
>computer turns on at exactly 00:00 UTC every night without fail
>>81459622literally never had that happen with pro
>>81459622Try holding shit before clicking the power off button. That does a complete shutdown.>>81460718>>81460795it does actually happen when you suspend the machine or even with just fast boot on (by default it doesnt do complete shutdowns). Nothing schizo about it.Laptops sin the worst there, as removing the battery to make sure it wont happen is often hard.
>>81459622>can't follow the simple online instructions to stop this
