>>81449873Just saying I have seen things change a lot over a long period of time. WE have bigger and faster tech these days, but content and soul have been severely undermined.
Late 90' to early 2000's before big tech was ubiquitous. Microsoft was the biggest player and Google still in its infancy. Facebook and Twitter were when it all began to got to shit as all the normies came online.

>>81450152DSL, IRC, and usenet were better than what you describe. The only thing better today is storage capacity.
>>81450152let me add that yes my gigabit fober connection is infinitely faster than my first dsl connection 20+ years ago. But the leap from dsl to fiber just doesn’t feel as big as the leap from dial up to dsl.

>>81450263I was just going to say something like this. This is when the first whiney leftist started making blogs about how bush Jr was a bad man. Shit got boring in 2003-2004. 2008 the internet died.
>>81450293But he is a bad man.

>>81449791Those heels though, and mid to late 90s. YouTube and MySpace were the end of the internet.
>>81449859This, in the 90's the internet was little more than forums and chat programs but by the early 2000's there was actually plenty of useful information and entertainment to be found without the corporate sterilization and nanny state bullshit we have today.

>>81453193She probably gets off to it.
>>8144979190s and the early 2000s. Anything later than that is cancer. There wasn't even a transition phase really it just went down fucking hill.
>>81449791Internet took a hard and fast death spiral from 2004 then died outright in 2006I don't know what good internet is as I got on around that time, (college had internet access unlike my house) but from the stories I heard it was way better before I got on it. Sounds like it was 1995-2004 was the golden ageI think it is an access issue. Early on very few had access so it didn't matter much. Then more joined and it was a good time, groups were still small enough that they could invite friends from all over the world but ignore/ban the idiots. Then everyone was let in and it broke the clusters of communities. It not as simple as just making a new chat room because your room can't compete with the big platforms and people have gotten use to the automation that guided them to dopamine hit instead of real experiences. It is like saying to a new friend they should look you up in the phone book and give you a call, that my have been ok long ago but now people are so lazy they just don't bother with the guy who won't tap his contact info to their smartphone. Just like how we yell at each other instead of stopping to think be fore posting. The civil investment is gone, as such the internet civilization died because we stop caring for it.
Mid to late 90's. Once the web became easy to use for normal people the internet replaced the "look what I can do" with the "what do you guy..." The deterioration of the internet is the best example of what happens when normies get a hold of something.

>>814497911982>Sending electronic mail over the ARPANet for commercial profit or political purposes is both anti-social and illegal. Internet from before 2010 I'd say, from there it has just shrunk and shrunk. Soon it will be like TV, with just a few channels/websites. How fucking sad, it wasn't supposed to be like this.

Can somebody actually explain what's wrong with internet today beyond DDUUURRR NORMIES FACEBOOK TWITTER? No one forces you to use either of these.
>>81449799is biggr just grindr but for hucow lesbians?
>>81457957>No one forces you to use either of theseThey're just integrated into every site and track you even if you don't use it.
>>81457957>DDUUURRR NORMIES FACEBOOK TWITTERThat pretty much sums it up, though. Everything being centralized made the internet more accessible. The internet is filled with dumb, average people now, and not the creative, slightly above average intelligent nerds that used to use the internet in the past. The internet used to be a nice respite from the real world, but now normalfaggot shit has managed to seep into all corners of the web.Of course you can still create your own forums and web servers like in the past, but no one will visit them because everyone is conditioned to use centralized socialized media instead.

I had stopped enjoying it as much and was aware something was wrong by 2013.
