I used to own them before moving on the Focal Utopia. Your question is hard to answer if we don't even know what kind of sound you like.

If I have to summarize the L700 MK2, they are pretty bright headphones with forward midrange and airy sound. Their upper mid is kind of harsh but I think the biggest weakness is the bass which lacks punch. Great resolution and speed, as typical of an electrostatic. I prefer these over the HD800S but they seem to be playing around the same level to be honest.

Should I bother doing the detachable cable mod on a pair of DT770s if all I have accomplished so far with my soldering "skills" is replace a bunch of mechanical switches and solder a few LED strips together?

Also, if I were to do this mod: Should I do it the same way everyone does it, by opening a hole and putting the jack there, or instead leave a bit of cable hanging outside the headphones, cut it and just use that instead like pic related? I saw an old ass video of Zeos saying this was probably more convenient.

I want something versatile and comfy. If I had to pick a genre I'm pickiest about, it's vocal EDM/electropop (if it sounds bad with yunomi, Hayden James or cashmere cat, it's a dealbreaker) but I still need those orchestral OSTs and local indie bands to sound good.
If possible, I'd like to be able to game in them too.
>Preferred sound profile
I loved my Final E2000 to death, so something close to that.
Definitely not neutral, but not too warm either. They don't sound as bassy as they look in the graph, but it's very present. Mids and treble were even and smooth but not lacking energy.

Hard to tell, I guess neutral ?
Last pairs were Sony MDR R1 and Sennheiser Momentum. I liked these.

Ideally, a closed pair that can function simply by hooking the jack to my phone without any kind of battery required. Also I like having a cable. And I don't like bluetooth BS.

So far my research pointed me towards these :
AKG 702 - heard good things about it but don't know if reaquires an amp
Meze 99 Classic - but might be a case of "good looking but bad sounding"
Sennheiser Momentum 3 - Just because I like the sound of the Momentum 2, but I'm afraid of the Wireless part.
Sennheiser HD600 or 650 - heard good things but semi-open and maybe requires an amp idk

Weeb reaction image for your thoughts please

If you mean the "bicycle ring" then don't try to EQ it, it sound sharp and awful on everything. (I think it's 8-10k)

Imma hit hit you with the classic "a bit of everything", without a hint of pretentiousness.

Rock, Post rock, art rock, blues, symphonic orchestra, rap, hip hop, pop, dreampop, electro, EDM...

I guess that's why I'm looking for something neutral.

Usually when testing out new headphones I use a few "measuring tunes"
Waters of Nazareth - Justice for the bass
Reckoner - Radiohead for the high pitches
I Miss You - Björk for the voices

It gives me a good idea of whether or not I like the sound signature.
But I moved to a new town, and the electronics store don't have much to offer :/
>>
>>81454465
you will need pads
>>
>>81454768
I had a pair of K371s and I couldn't like them not just because of the driver, but how uncomfortable they were. They didn't seem to seal all that well with stock pads, they need constant readjustment (something I heard it's better on the K361s, not sure), the headband padding is thin as shit and normal replacement pads made clamping worse. I bought them for half price and returned them.
>>
>>81454988
I haven't had problems with comfort or adjusting on the K361, only clamping and my ears heating up after listening for a while. If the sound was fine I could live with that, too bad I don't find the sound worth it for the price given that I have earphones 1/4th the price that beat them hands down.
>>
>>81454768
Well because the build isn't that bad, I know I use k361 as a commuter headphone. And the peaky treble is normal for a lot of headphones and it doesn't bother majority of people.
>>
>>81455085
I will say that the build is alright, no problems there.
>k361 as a commuter headphone.
I tried this, but they have almost no isolation. This might be because I'm coming from Etymotics, but I couldn't use them anywhere with even medium background noise.

Pardon my autism but I'm really paranoid about caring for electrostatics, is this a good plan to keep the diaphragm as mint as possible?
>store them in sealed anti-static/ESD bag when not in use
>store them with desiccant packets, particularly in between the two earpads, to preserve earpad odor and absorb humidity
>glue or tape a light acoustically transparent dust and moisture blocking mesh/material on the grills for further protection

Is there anything I'm missing? Is putting them in an anti-static bag a bad idea? I know that most e-stats have a internal dust cover but they don't have any out-of-the-box protection against humidity

I'm trying to choose a wireless IEM (I know, I know)
-Jabra Elite 65t

-Beats Flex

I'm considering the Flex for its apple device integration as I have an iphone but not much else. What should I choose among these or should I look elsewhere? Should I just go for Airpods? They seem very expensive.

Airpods Pro (batteries not replaceable even by a professional so they will die), any of the Galaxy Buds except the beans, Sony WF1000XM3, or Lypertek Tevi.
Jabra has QC issues just look up Jabra not working/broken or read the r/Jabra plebbit page. Jaybird Vista is just plain badly tuned and you can get much better for the price.

Oratory1990 has new presets for the Sundara 2020 revised earpads
He already had a preset for the revised earpads, and in my opinion the new preset sounds worse than the old one.
The differences are minor overall but the tonality feels slightly wrong.

The sad thing is he doesn't have the old preset anywhere anymore, he replaced it with the new one.

>>81456508
I'm not into beyers, but you have to use a headphone consistently for at least a few days and then comparing to your old ones to be able to judge them properly. Your brain needs to get used (and there is always EQ to fix headphones).

I messed up my 3.5mm jack when cleaning it on my iphone, and since I didn’t want to buy a new one just yet I went out and got dongled to hear my podcasts at work.
The sound is better/louder than the phone was by itself. Does this thing have a dac in it? If it does it’s a better dac than the phone itself? Isn’t it stupid to be selling dacs when the phone already has one?
>>
>>81456632
They'll sound more listenable over time, but not better because you'll know what to look for in comparison to better headphones. Bad headphones sound like all the instruments and voices merge into a giant blob.

I'm just saying this entire general is a meme. Buying better than cheap standard earphones is only maxing out the experience by like 10-15% tops.

Some genres need accurate instrument positioning, some genres need subbass, some genres need low distortion, etc. Then there's non-musical factors like plain convenience of wearing them. Buying headphones before trying them is a recipe for disappointment.
>>
>>81456759
You know not everyone here is a staxfag. There are objectively better headphones and they're WAY cheaper than some of the memes posted here.
>>
Got the sennheiser 450 BT a while ago. They're good for traveling and all but I expected them to sound better when wired, but instead they sound exactly the same when either wired or bluetooth, or maybe wired IS better but it still sounds magnitudes worse than my other headphones so I'll probably won't be using them on the desktop. Remember to click like and subscribe and leave a comment.
>>
>>81457352
bluetooth headphones don't really sound better when wired, it's wired headphones without bluetooth that sound better because they don't have as many compromises during manufacturing to support bluetooth.
>>
>>81457352
>>81457462
Bluetooth headphones usually sound WORSE when wired since they don't apply DSP to fix their shitty frequency response.
>>
>>81457462
>>81457482

I see, don't even know where I got the idea that they might sound a bit better like that, probably a snake oil poster somewhere.

They're still good company for my phone though, iPhones really must have the shittiest audio out there because whenever I tried proper headphones with them I was horrified to find how inferior the sound was on some tracks with the very same headphones I used on pc. As someone who always looked down on audiophiles, being able to notice the difference between headphones feels like slowly turning a monster I swore to fight.

yeah, it sucked. for me the best is monitoring *and* open back headphones.

checked and their isnt a general for the other audio generals, so ill post here.
ive been using the razer hammerheads lately as my bluetooth audio option, but i want to upgrade to something higher quality. one of my biggest issues with the hammerheads is that the sleeve that goes on the outside came off so easily that i eventually lost them, so now my hammerheads are quite uncomfortable to wear. im not even willing to consider some god awful option like airpods.

anyone have any input on these? i thought about just taking a shot in the dark. budget is $200. as long as they sound good, ill be satisfied. i'd prefer some base if possible since these in ear options dont have much of it, but its not going to turn me off a purchase.

take this anime picture as a thanks for reading my post.

Brighter means stuff like vocals is more pronounced. Bluetooth audio on PC is trash in general: you can't even choose what codec to use(aptx at best but it's still terrible) and the audio itself could stutter. Or it may not stutter but could stutter after an update.
>>
>>81460170
>Needing to clean your ears ever
I use Etymotics almost exclusively and rarely have more than a tiny bit of earwax on them, since earwax is secreted near the outside of the ear canal this isn't because I clogged my ear canals but just because I have lucky genetics.
>>
Huh, Thomann.de has retired all HiFiMAN products from their store.

Also, are the Sundaras good enough for mixing and mastering?
>>
>>81460319
Trust me, there may be little earwax outside but enough of it inside to even affect how you hear the music. Even if you aren't using IEMs. Not with q-tips - with peroxide.
>>
>>81460369
Ok, I'll try it some time. Perhaps I'm losing out, even if it's a little bit.

>>81460315
that makes sense. honestly i was just opting for bluetooth because i unintentionally yank the hell out of every wire i use on my computer, and if i do go wired, i have to run it through a usb sound card because there's some stupid shit with my motherboard where it will make popping noises every few minutes. couldnt ever actually find the source of the issue.
>>
>>81460546
*yank the hell out of every wired headset ive used with my computer
still not exactly sure what causes the popping issue when im directly wired to my motherboard. its been at least a year since ive hooked something up to it, and ive moved the room my computer was in so maybe it isnt happening anymore.
>>
>>81460546
>there's some stupid shit with my motherboard where it will make popping noises every few minutes
If you think that's bad my headphones used to electrocute me. That's exactly why external DACs are a thing.
>>
>>81460613
i may have to look into getting a set of headphones with one of those then. i used to really like hyperx for headsets, but:
- the newer cloud models hurt my ears after up to a few minutes of being worn
- the alphas are fantastic, but the detachable cable pisses me off so much that any positives about them are immediately negated
- the fit on the flights is shit and its just their cheapest headset, but made wireless and ~100-120 dollars more expensive

ive been using the steelseries arctis 1 wireless, but i want to upgrade sometime to something with a bit more depth to the sound. they work great for the price, but i'm really curious about the uncharted waters that include high quality sound.
>>
I'm a total noob when it comes to headphones. If I plug a pair of $50 headphones with a 3.5mm jack into an audio receiver with an adapter would it sound better than if I plug it into the pc with the 3.5? They're not high powered and work on the pc I'm just wondering what difference it would make if any.

At long last, the DT770V pads arrived for my Superlux HD330s. Ultra comfy and look pretty nice.
But sound is boomy cuppy and hollow, however I dislike the stock sound with any pads.
With EQ tho, I like these A LOT. I got them sounding very clear and there's plenty headroom to play with bass. Treble actually sounds very very good, compared to other luxes anyway.
I just can't stand the HD681s now no matter what I do to them, the treble just sounds so awfully cheap. I have absolutely zero clue what's up with that.
Im gonna finally say it, if you're buying Superluxes, buy the HD330s with DT770V pads. Not only do I think the sound is superior, they're also built more sturdy.

Me and my dad compared his Sony XM3 to my Sundara today
His Sony have a lot more bass impact, even with a +5db bass shelf (Harman) the Sundaras don't punch even near as hard as the Sonys do. It felt like being kicked to the chest on them.
But everything else was night and day. All the lower mids were muddled on the Sony and the instrument separation was really bad by comparison.

My brother tried the Sundara and he immediately spotted the instrument separation issue, and then my mom tried them (she's a normie) and she thought the Sony had more bass but the Sundara sounded real, like the singer was really there.
>>
>>81463226
You can go way harder than +5dB with the bass shelf is your amp can follow though. The oratory guy recommends anything from +5-+12dB or do depending on preference iirc. They just eq that well. I have eq presets for 7-12dB for different music myself

Recently my DT880's finally broke after many years. I enjoyed their sound as i like a neutral sound but there were a few differences I'd like on my next pair of headphones, mainly for my next set I want the cable to be detachable because my DT880's cable started getting stiff and splitting so a detachable cable would be easier to replace and I think I would like to try closed headphones this time. Ideally I don't want something with inferior sound though, I want it to sound similar or better then my DT880's.
From what I seen a highly recommend headphone that matches my requirements is the AKG K371. Is this a good choice? I don't really want to spend too much more then DT880's cost.

you're the retard here for buying overpriced consumer trash, instead of simple, durable and easy to repair headphones
>>
Hey faggots is the Fiio K5 Pro compatible with Windows 7 64 bit?
>>
>>81471488
>>81471790
yes its compatible
but don't, just buy JDS Atom or Pro-Ject Head Box
>>
>>81462901
The voice coil is thinner, but i never heard, that they're lighter in any way. That wouldn't even make any sense.
>>
>>81471811
Why not? a JDS Atom stack is double the price(even a little more due to tax and shipping) also I don't need 600 ohms, I only need at most 300 ohms to power up my HD600
>>
>>81471857
you don't need a DAC anon, just an amplifier
>>
>>81471790
Ok I downloaded the driver from 2019 and it still doesn't detect it. Maybe it's the USB cable.
>>
>>81471811

>>

Now I'm looking at PCM1794/PCM1704/PCM63 balanced DIY kits on Ebay and Aliexpress.
>>

its just the euro equivalent
>>
>>81464776
Yep, they're great
>>
there's a special promo by my local shop on m40x for 99bnd (75USD ~), is it a good headphone for the price?
>>
>>81472605
kinda
>>
>>81471790
Yep this brick doesn't work even after I changed the cable, should have known considering they're repackaged.
I have 2 weeks to try to get it to work, after 2 weeks I can't return it anymore, but I'm wasting my time. My motherboard doesn't have s/pdif to bother using the other connection.
>>
>>81453924
Never had any QC issues with the sony's. My friend had that rare case and returned them , got a great unit back.
>>
>>81454555
Can you elaborate how these are ?
Esp how the bass response is,

I am looking into these or the Fostex t40's
>>
>>81469040
My limit seems to be telling the difference between 256 and 320. Not 320 and flac tho unless the flac version has better mastering.
>>
>>81472211
Eh, it's missing the 3.5 input so not really equivalent.
>>
>>81466600
I ordered l700 mk2 about a week ago. Emailed and got a response next day. They said it's on the way and I should get it first week of June. They seem good.
>>
>>81473403
use an adapter you troglodyte
>>
>>81471811
>Pro-Ject Head Box
Which one?
>>
>>81473933
the normal version, i think its called the S2
>>
>>81473914
It's not about adapters you dumbass. It's about having more inputs that I can change with a switch.
>>
>>81473966
why would you want that?
unless they have different output impedance, it is completely redundant
>>
>>81467994
Yeah, it sound like HD600
>>
>>81473986
One input for my external dac (e10k right now) and the other to connect a turntable.

lmao

I want to start collecting some of my favorite albums in vinyl, since there's no point in getting CDs when flac exists.

>>
>>81474054
oh, do they? i've been wanting for a while to get something that sounds as close as possible to HD600s but with nicer materials. should i look at the utopias for that?
>>
>>81474584
Try them out if possible because you'll be paying through the ass for one.

Don't be that guy who drop $4k on a pair of headphones only to hate how it sounds
>>
>>81457352
I put mine wired through a sabre DAC and the sound opened up quiet a bit. The stock cable is complete shit and any chinese aftermarket cable will be much better.
>>
>>81474626
that's a good point. i really wish sennheiser could just give me a $600-800 tarted-up version of the HD600s with less cost compromises on the materials.
>>
>>81458730
Still sucks with detail and resolution,
but the ANC and portability is comfy.
Is the battery user replaceable on them ?
>>
>>81447360
I bought Koss Porta pros just to test them out because they seem to have a following, I can't tell the difference between my gaymer headset, the HyperX 2s.
>>
>>81474445
it adds a lot of quality of life that you are only going to be able to understand from using it. if you think its a virus or something, go use it in a virtual machine.

Meze's are ok for mixing except for the elevated bass.

What is the benefit of a balanced cable?
Would my ATH M50x benefit from one?
>>
>>81448088
>>81463961
So I have a pair of 600 ohm 880s I bought on a whim, and have been driving them through a Adcom GTP 500 II preamp (has a dedicated 600 ohm headphone channel). How much will I benefit from getting a different preamp?
>>
what're the most comfortable headphones?
both my K701 and my portaPro get uncomfortable after a few hours if I wear them with glasses.
>>
Does window sample rate and bit depth matter? I can't hear a difference between my Sundaras and el cheapo ATHs.

Fiio 3k is the dac, ATHs are undaced
>>
>>81476603
>sample rate
Best case - no effect, worst case - degraded sound quality due to IMD from unfiltered ultrasonics. I've actually discovered one use case for higher sampling rates today - you can reduce FIR EQ latency. Useless/harmless otherwise.
>bit depth
Lower theoretical noise floor but no device in existence can actually provide 24 bit dynamic range. If you hear no difference that means no hidden DSP is degrading your audio. With DSP + digital volume control you could actually lose a couple of bits of precision and the noise floor would become audible.
>>
Recently bough vmoda crossfade 2 codex wireless.
The bluetooth sound constantly emits a hissing while audio plays.
Is this just a bad product or is it faulty?
>>
>>81476738
Garbage amp, like 99% of bluetooth devices have. Not faulty, just defective by design.
>>
>>81476763
Oh, well at least it's not my fault.
Might be a little more than this general, but could I mod it and put in a proper amp? Obviously voids warranty and all that, but feasible?
>>
>>81476848
The kind of amp you could realistically diy is bigger than your entire headphones.
>>
>>81476848
just return it under the cooldown period
>>
>>81474676
>>81474626
>hate how it sounds
EQ can fix this to some degree.

Another benefit for trying out a headphone is comfort. Some headphones like the Audezes or the Heddphone are heavy as fuck for me while someone who used to wear steel helmets in the army won't even notice the weight.

How do you like the clear?
I'm in the market for high end headphones and i could get anything between a DT1990 to an LCD4, but I'm gravitating towards the Clear. Maybe the new MG version, but the final run of the original is only $990 so might be a good value - if you can even talk about 1k headphones as 'value.' Hopefully can try a few cans out over the weekend. Pairing with an element ii dac/amp and looking for something that doesn't look like complete shit (HEDDPHONES, SR1a, etc).
>>
>>81476901
I'm using a clear professional (no difference in sound except you get different cables and an extra set of earpads) and I like them so far.

How good or bad are these kind of headphone anon?

I do not understand a shit about headphone and also my economy can't let me spend $600+ in one.

Thanks you in advance.

Amp? What did you use before and how do the clears compare? I've heard some people describe the clears as 'clinical' but I'm not an audiophile so not sure what that even means. Thanks anon.
>>
>>81476976
There's an anon that has sony xm3 here, ask him whether it hisses. Otherwise you can try replicating my setup: some headphones with replaceable cable, short cable from aliexpress and qudelix 5k(optionally fiio btr5). This has no hiss whatsoever.
>>
>>81477042
Not sure about that specific one, but IEMs are great for blocking out outside sound so I like them for the gym, work, and public transit. They also don't look flashy so you probably won't get mugged for them. If you're a poorfag, Koss makes some cheap non-IEM headphones like the porta pros, kph30, and ksc75 that people seem to love. Can't compare sound since the last time i heard music through a porta pro was when I had a walkman.
>>
>>81477126
using porta pros right now
theyre alright, great value for money

topping dx3 pro

I used a HD650 for years and years before deciding to upgrade. Clinical means accurate but less "fun" I think.
