A decent lightweight image editor. Don't need to get Adobe. Pixelmator Pro is great for most people (if you want vector and image editing, the Affinity suite is cool too).
Logic if you're a musician. Out of the box though, Garage band is still great for non-pro work (but pros have used it too). Maybe get MainStage to compliment Garage band.
Might as well set up a package manager for Unix stuff. Ports is older and has more applications (and builds from source, so it's slow), but Homebrew is a cinch (just turn off telemetry).

if you have a laptop, macsfancontrol is useful if you're autistic about temps
daisydisk is kinda like windirstat except not as janky-looking
foobar2000, although barebones, is usable, and plays flac, unlike music/itunes

What app cleaners
>>
>>81048818
https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
when you drop a .app file in the trash bin it only deletes the .app and not the folders the program created app cleaner deletes the .app file and all files that have been created by it

Everywhere that talks about package managers always uses Homebrew as their reference, but I was lead to believe that MacPorts had a better selection and was a cleaner install. Can anyone give a run down on one vs the other?

MusicBee is the de facto best Windows/Mac audio player, it's one of the greatest pieces of freeware ever released. There is no reason to get foobar over it.
>>
>>81051027
i agree musicbee is good but it's not native on mac, unlike foobar, swinsian, vox, cog, etc...

For me, just Rectangle and Amphetamine.

It's probably just because I've used them since Tiger, but I really like hot corners. I only have two set up, bottom right for "Expose" (now known as Mission Control) and bottom left for show desktop. I'm pretty sure there are gestures for them (at least Mission Control) but meh.

Anybody got an alternative to using the official Dropbox client on Mac? It fucking sucks balls and slows my machine to a crawl for hours. Tries to sync every time the machine is powered on.
>>
>>81052580
When I say sync on boot, I mean it literally uses all of the machine's resources to generate new checksums and compare them. It makes the computer unusable for about 4 hours each time. Selective sync doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference.
