Can someone recommend me a good board for an 11400? I heard that asrock was shit, but it feels like my choices are either Asrock or paying $200+.
>>81046955Dual-rank (32 GB) performance at 3600 MHz is better than single-rank (16 GB) performance at 3600 MHz. On Intel CPUs, single-rank performance will equalize somewhere past 4400 MHz. AMD Ryzen 5000-series cap at 3600-4000 MHz for most scenarios.https://kingfaris.co.uk/overclocking/ram/intel

Is this trash for $1280?
>>81047109I'm more worried about older games though
>>81046605The 6800X or whatever it'll be called is likely going to be a good enough CPU to last you 5 years, so no.Also DDR5 is likely going to be very slow (poor latency) and expensive when it comes out. So "wait for AM5" is likely going to be a wait until 2023 until you can get a good value build. Also don't forget that first gen AM5 will probably have teething issues, so even more reason not to adopt it on the first year.

i7 4770 anon from last thread. I've been doing a lot of reading about the intel 4th gen chipsets and have come across an MSI H97M-E35 LGA1150 for 75 dollars (including shipping). Is this a good buy? I'm not sure if I would need to update the bios or anything of that nature, otherwise, I guess I will be buying one of the chinkshit boards and a battery.
>>81047320Can find better Z97 boards for $50-$125.
>>81047359Why are they better? Are they more likely to be compatible? I've only found more expensive Z97 boards and from what I've read they're for overclocking and things like that. The LED strip on my motherboard flashes blue when starting up but then turns and stays red. >>81049224You will have to as the 10700k doesn't come with a stock cooler. If you're upgrading from a recent Intel CPU then the stock one should fit. Although if I were going to blow that much on a PC I'd get myself a nice cooler just for noise reasons.

>>81051846yeh but I heard theres some problem with the design so it cant actually dissipate enough heat and thats why some peoples cpus are running at like 80+ degrees under load even with decent cooling, I also heard that reducing the tdp doesnt actually reduce the performance that substantially in real world applications, in any case my previous cpu was an intel 4790k so I think anything I get will be a decent upgrade
I'm having an issue with RAM speed. I'm on an MSI B450 board with a 3700x CPU. My RAM is 3200Mhz, but both BIOS and CPU-Z only read it as 2133Mhz, even with XMP on; it defaults to 2133Mhz. Manually trying to set it to 3200Mhz in BIOS results in an immediate crash, and I have to set it back to Auto, which obviously goes back to 2133. When I built the PC back in July, I remembered reading that there was an issue with either Zen2 processors or Ryzen mobos in general (can't remember which) that was causing RAM issues, so I largely forgot about it until now that I'm trying to OC my CPU. I've already updated my BIOS and updated my chipset drivers both to the latest stable release, but I'm still having the same issue.
>>81052126Okay, I'll give that a try. I didn't bother with Masterplus since 212 Spectrum is supposed to work with MSI Mystic Light but for some reason I can't control it via that program. Thanks.

>>81052320"Problem" isn't really the right word - any chip that small on a high-density node will run hot. There's nothing they can really do about it short of sanding the die a la 10900k. On the other hand smaller process nodes can tolerate higher temperatures so anything <95°C is within spec for 24/7 use. You can certainly try setting an offset voltage to bring temps down but it will likely result in some loss of performance. Depends on how well your particular CPU did in the silicon lottery.>>81052415I meant the _A_12 not the S12_A_, sorry. >>81052457But the stock fans have shitty static pressure, the S12A would be an upgrade, look at pic >>81051314, the stock fans have 0.96 mm H2O vs Noctua's 1.19 mm H2O.
Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my 2x 1TB HDD. The first drive is encrypted and full of porn, and the other one is for movies and TV shows. Would buying a 4TB 5400RPM WD drive and partitioning it into two halves for the same purpose be a good idea?
>>81052507Different companies measure SP and AF differently. You can't compare the numbers. Best to look for benchmarks. On the whole, however, case fans are pretty unimportant for system temperatures - as long as they're there and spinning fast enough. A fan on a cooler needs to keep the flow even, with the right amount of turbulence, over a heatsink so design is relatively important. A case fan just needs to bring in fresh air past some sort of obstruction; it doesn't really matter what the air does after it's in the case because the heatsink fans are the ones that actually direct it. Obviously this analysis has limits but they don't really apply to your enclosure. I suspect the S12A would do just fine but the A12/14 would be better for the same money. Is the noise from the stock fans actually bothering you or do you just have a case of upgrade fever?
>>81046879>Budget Gaming: i3 10100FWhy not add the 3400G? It even has somewhat decent iGPU.
>>81052591No AMD in the OP, drone.
>>81052582I already have the case and yes the stock fan is bothering me that's why I thought the S12A was a good choice because of the 17.8db(A) noise level. The A12 at 22.6db(A) would be quieter than the stock's 27db(A) but still too loud I think.
>>81052599But there already are AMD CPUs
Need advice on upgrades for monitor
>>81052625Try tuning your stock fan curve first. If they're hitting 100% at load, or are too reactive, you can probably get them down to a good point while only sacrificing 1-2°C. I rate Noctua highly but don't go spending money you don't have to.I hope I'm not condescending to you here but dB is a logarithmic scale - a reduction of 5dBA will roughly half the perceived noise level. Lower is better but I suspect the noise floor of your study is over 22dB.Additionally, the SP fans will be able to operate at a lower speed (and therefore lower noise) than the AF ones because static pressure itself depends partially on RPM. Furthermore, if you go with 140mm fans you can get the same airflow at a lower RPM because of the increased blade surface area.
>>81052398Niiiice. for me it's just my usual survival/sightseeing suite with Space Engine, No Man's Sky and taking a walk in a minecraft achitecture server with memeshaders along with engineering games like KSP, """Engineering""" games like Garry's Mod, and stuff chock-full of graphics mods and I also use memelearning stuff on the side and do heavy editing/rendering, very hype for KSP 2 and S&box
I need some advice about choosing a monitor, I have been using a Samsung SMT22A550 for roughly a decade now and I have been meaning to use it as a secondary monitor while I get a new main one.The problem is my country has a piss poor variety of choices and I haven't been able to clearly choose a best option from the 24' 144hz+ monitors I have found. These are some of the models I picked to try narrowing things down, I also gave my local prices as relevant info:LG 24GL600F - TN - LED $ 1140AOC 24G2/BK - IPS - LED $ 1390Samsung Odyssey FG73 - VA - QLED $ 1690Then there's models like these that go for roughly 3k, are they really worth it going double the price? 3k here is roughly 550$ US.Benq Mobiuz EX2510 - IPS - LEDAlienware AW2521HF - IPS - LCDFinally, I'd also like to point out I'd rather have a nicer image than the absolute lowest response times.
>>81052599But, there's a lot of AMD in the OP>>81052591Out of stock or extremely overpriced and has been for months. The graphics on a UHD 750 chip like 11500 isn't as good as Vega 8, but they're not really that much different since we're talking about about GT 1030 performance for the 3200G. At least with the 11500, you can just drop in a better graphics card when you can find one. >>81052738I have to have them at 100% because my RTX 3060Ti throttles if I don't.
>>81052885What case fan configuration do you have? If you're running it with 1 intake 1 exhaust (which I think is standard) you might just need another intake at the level of the graphics card. Might as well be a Noctua but either way you're going to need to tune it properly. I'd also take a look at what your card is doing - throttling at stock settings in such an open case is a sign of either the wrong fan curve (some cards have the option of silence or performance) or a faulty card. Worth tuning that with Afterburner too. Running your case fans at max to lower GPU temps is sort of like replacing your back box to get more horsepower - it'll technically work but the real restriction is further upstream.
>>81051891Thanks. If you're still there do you have any recs?
>>81053036It really depends on how far you want to push it. If all you want is to unlock the turbo limits and have it be reasonably quiet then a 120mm tower would do (212 is de rigueur but there's plenty out there). To push higher clocks with manual OC you could look at a dual tower 140mm or 280+mm CLC (D15 or Freezer II 280 get my vote). For a milder OC, or silence focus at stock, then look into dual-tower 120 or single-tower 140mms like the Fuma 2 or DR4. There's a tier list in the OP; anything Tier 5 or better will be able to handle it at stock and, basically, as you move up the scale in quality, and price, you're buying noise and frequency in some proportion of your choice.
>>81053027I have the case with 3 intake fans and one exhaust(rear). The 3 intake fans are the ones that came with the case:https://phanteks.com/PH-F120SK-DRGB.htmlThe exhaust rear fan is an old 120mm corsair one.
>>81053345Hmm, you should still look into what your graphics card is doing because it really shouldn't be throttling below base clock in such an airflow-focused case. By all means replace the intakes with Noctuas, whether AF or SP, but I doubt it'll do much more than mask the true problem.

Do you have poor eyesight or is it just preference?Given this information I think you ought to be looking at either a 27" 1440p or 24" 1080p monitor. Panel type should probably be VA for the contrast, although IPS would also be acceptable, especially if you do colour work. A quick look at productchart.com gives the Dell S2721D (1440p, IPS) at $239 or ASUS VA24EHE (1080p, IPS) at $115. For VA the Acer ED242QR ($149) might be worth a look. Neither of your original options are particularly suitable for your use; the ASUS is 27" 1080p so the pixels will be very visible at your short viewing distance and the Dell is a TN which aren't suitable for human consumption.

>>81055865For gaming ideally you'd want something like the VP249QGR except with a better stand. OP has a list of some 1080p high refresh monitors, and of course there are others that are acceptable. Having said that a 745 isn't really a match for the monitor. I can't imagine trying to play games on a 745. You'll have lot better experience even on something with the performance of an RX 470 / GTX 1060, which during better times can be had for around $100 on the used market. Either one is a fine match for a 1080p adaptive sync monitor
>>81055865Well you should pick your resolution and refresh rate based on what video card you're going to get - recommendations are in the OP although he seems to have omitted the high-end AMD cards for some reason. A GT745 isn't going to be able to drive much of anything so it's not really worth worrying about it at this point - just run windowed or upscaled. Since your vision is poor it does open up the possibility of 1080p@27" for the sake of text size (although scaling is an option).

>>81056035That is very odd. You really shouldn't be experience "true" throttling, i.e. below base clock, with the fans at 100%. A repaste+pad is certainly in order. Especially if it doesn't void your warranty.

>>81056139You can get away with rubbing it off dry but a little iso alcohol makes it easier and more thorough. Should be available at the chemist. The compatibility problems are somewhat of a moot point because both AMD and Intel are set to specify a new socket for their next processor lines. We don't know about forwards compatibility for either but it's likely they'll be similar enough that you can send away for new mounting hardware when the time comes.

>>81057003Other programs are pretty much saying the same thing temp wise.
>>81057110The benchmarked FPS can vary due to a number of factors. Many of which are outside of the control of the review outlet. Some examples include:>Driver version>Part of game benchmarked>Windows version>Windows settings>Telemetry software choice>Background servicesAnd so on. Combinations of these factors, and others, can add up. Even something as picayune as the temperature of the bench lab can now affect boost clocks and therefore performance. Note also that a review company may actually choose to leave some of these factors uncontrolled in an attempt to present a more realistic FPS number for the consumer e.g. benching with the "balanced" power plan since most users will never touch that setting. You happened to pick two of the most demanding titles available for your comparison but even then the minimum FPS of 43 in CP2077 means that you would quite easily be able to get it up to 60 by disabling RT or downgrading other settings so don't sweat it.
>>81057156The fans on the GPU aren't moving because they're set to not activate until it reaches a certain temp. And your temps are fine, pretty low even. The temp that will start causing you problems is 90°C, did you think that it was 90°F, you meme

>>81057396Watch the video I linked. There's only 3 major manufacturers of memory chips (4 soon if Chyna Stronk). All of them make some types that are good for OC and some that are bad. Crucial is pretty wedded to their Revisions E and B which, like I said, have decent overclocking potential; subject to binning and silicon lottery. Corsair buys modules from all three manufacturers so you really don't know what you're getting if you're not "in the loop", so to speak. That doesn't matter to the user who will toggle XMP on and leave it at that - it matters only to the manual overclocker. If Corsair has 3600C16 kits in stock but Crucial does not you can safely buy the Corsair kit and enable XMP. If it doesn't work then they will replace it with a functional kit that conforms to spec (subject to you having a board that is specced to handle 3600MHz).

Its $35 moreThanks in advance/g/.
Where can I get a GPU bracket/brace to support it and prevent sagging?I have a Corsair Airflow 4000D caseAll the options I've found are garbage zoomer lightup shit and with shitty chink """brand""" labels tacked onThis is the only reasonable option but there are no clues as to whether it will mount on my casehttps://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-%7C-Parts/PC-Components/Cases/Carbide-275R-GPU-Support-Bracket%2C-Black/p/CC-8900230
So I've seen someone get 5.4 ghzall core on a delidded 11900k. With ddr4 5400 it would then be the fastest gaming cpu for 1080p 360hz right?I got a 6900xt but my 9350k is choking in some games. Already have the ram.Only games and web browsing. Nothing else demanding ever. $1k budget for cpu and mobo
>>81058959No. Intel are just for budget CPUs now. Ryzen if you want high end. Go look at reviews.>9350kYeah we could already tell you were a dumb memer before saying that.
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144397?Item=N82E16813144397I need a 11th gen mobo and anything cheaper than this seems unusable, but this one has no real reviews. Is it alright? Should I bite the bullet on it?
>>81059213If it has the features and connectors you want, why not? The B460 board was well received too so take that for what you want. It's not like MSI is a no name manufacturer.
Hello /g/, I pretty much have zero knowledge on PC building so I'd really appreciate if someone can help.I've been using an old desktop Aspire TC-860 with the following spec:64-Bit Windows 104GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce GT 720 GPUi5-8400 @2.80GHz CPUI want to play Apex Legends with my mates, so this is definitely under the minimum specs. If I were to upgrade to meet the recommended specs of:8GB RAMNvidia GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 2908GB GPU RAMIs it worth it? (If it's possible to upgrade at all since this is a pre-assembled desktop PC) Or should I just build everything from zero?P.S My budget is definitely not high, under $600
>>81058959Definitely not worth. You're going to be running that RAM in Gear 2 anyway. A tiny OC like that can't make up the significant advantage that Ryzen has in some games, especially at high refresh rates. You'd have to look at particular games, and of course the Zen3 can also be slightly OC'd>>810584503600CL16 RAM is barely more expensive right now, and that monitor sucks because pixel transitions are slow IIRC. Check OP for a list of monitorsSSD is fineIf you're going to upgrade to a 3060 Ti you can get away with the 550W PSU, but it wouldn't hurt to get a 650W.>>8105773627GL850 is better for the 3070 for sure, and where the fuck are you getting an $800 27GN950? The upgraded version of the GL850, the GN850, is likely cheaper than the original model. Spending less is definitely better considering all monitors suck compared to what will exist when OLED hits the market. Also graphics cards (like your 3070) are pretty weak for 4K so there's no reason to buy that res anyway>>81057699Your best bet is to catch a drop directly from AMD, and there was one recently, so probably not for a while>>81057632Nice, I have the XB270HU. Just stopping by to say that
>>81059327my xb271hu has had its issues. I wouldnt recommend it, I need to get it replaced.
>just bought 5600x at msrpFeels good. Now to wait for a 3070 and get back to playing doom and making spreadsheets
>>81057366Alt + PrtSc takes a screenshot of the window only, tech illiterate>>81056990>IIRC the 3060 is a decent 1440p card; able to do 60FPS average in any title with the settings turned down a bit.Not in my opinion. I understand that you're replying to an anon who had to buy one, but a 3060 Ti is the minimum if you're buying new. It's barely 60FPS in some titles and significantly stronger than a 3060>>81056875It'll be fine. I'm (still) using a 2060 6GB at 1440p and it can play 99% of games out there. Probably will want to upgrade sooner rather than later though>>81056780That's a no go. 3600XT isn't strong enough for the 5700 XT in a lot of games
>>81059316The main issue from what I see is the 300W FSP PSU will limit the GPU you put in. I definitely wouldn't put anything that would require power outside of the PCIe slot like a GTX 1650. If you put anything like a 970 or 290 in there, you will need a higher wattage PSU. Since your case is ATX and not an SFF desktop, you should be able to do a swap easily with any old ATX PSU on the market. Suggest probably something like a 600-700W 80 Plus Bronze minimum for what you are doing. Any GPU that meets the requirements of Apex will work then.
>>81059371>I wouldnt recommend it, I need to get it replaced.Of course not at this point, but for its time the XB270HU was one of the best. If I were buying now I'd be betting the Samsung Odyssey G7, probably. Honestly probably not worth upgrading your monitor until OLED hits the markethttps://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1610344427>In two separate statements to FlatpanelsHD, LG Display confirmed that the mention of 20-30-inch displays above are in fact OLED displays.
>>81059316You can easily throw in another 4GB stick (or even ditch your current RAM and use a 2x 8GB kit). CPU is fine. The problem is the graphics card, which is hard to get right now (best bet for something cheap is a used 4GB RX 570, which is slightly above the recommended specs you listed). If you are going to get a 570, you'll have to make sure you can power it, which means checking to see whether your PSU has the right wattage + connectors, which judging by a cursory search, it does not. Which in turn means that you either need a new PSU (which might not be easy either, if there is a proprietary connection between mobo and PSU, though I'm not saying it can't be done with adapters+ingenuity) or basically a complete rebuild (new platform + PSU).
>>81059316A 1660 super or RX 5600 would be enough and work on that PSU assuming it has 6+2 pin power connectors. And you should probably just purchase a new 2x4GB or 2x8GB RAM kit and sell the 4GB that's in there. It's probably slow as fuck RAM and adding a new better stick would end up downclocked to make it dual channel.
I know that gpus are in short supply, but what about cpus in terms of AMD, because I already bought a B550 mobo? Will the supply be good for the 5600x?
>>81059723No one really knows, but you can walk in to microcenter and buy one at MSRP, so supply has probably almost caught up to demand
>>81059723If you are patient you can find 5600X for MSRP still. It's a good CPU at MSRP. But not if you're paying more.
>>81059814Online demand is still high enough that stuff is out of stock, but yeah, 5600x and 5800x are in good enough supply at MSRP at Microcenter that you don't need reservations anymore for them. You can get 5900x and 5950x at lesser known Microcenters, and I got a 5950x from one in Ohio where I had a relative buy it for me and they had 25+ in stock at that time. It took around 1 week to sell out.
>>81059723Newegg has them in stock at msrp right now. I just grabbed one.
>>81059450I see, so a better (and compatible) PSU should be top priority before the graphic card then, thank you !>>81059605>>81059628About the RAMs, after an inspection of the motherboard, I see 2 slots, 1 black (which is where the 4GB stick is) and 1 white (empty). Is it safe to use a kit of 2x8 in it? I have some doubt since a few google search showed that different colored slots is used to differentiate between pairs, but since this is only 2 slots and not 4 I'm not sure what to do.
When is someone going to make a cool looking aftermarket NVME heatsink? I want something that matches my D-15. picrel is the coolest heatsink I've seen but you gotta buy the whole drive.
>new at building PCs>oh cool, this MSI MOBO has pretty rgb lights!>set up all the drivers necessary to make my MOBO bright green>it doesn't work>also all the garbage from MSI makes my CPU spike to 100% for no reasonLearned my lesson to check whether all these frills are in fact garbage, problems with CPU stopped as soon as I uninstalled whatever the fuck those msi "utilities" were.
>>81059723There's stock alert channels that make it easy to find them when they go up for sale, unless you're in a region the usual online stores don't ship to.
>>81060051Look up the motherboard model number and make sure it supports dual channel memory under specifications. It is weird that the slots are different colors when there's only 2 slots.
>>81060118Is the Sabrrent Rocket one not good enough? The copper color on the black would match the D15.https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Heatsink-Silver-SB-HTSS/dp/B07TN2RX2K?th=1
>>81059946>>81059814>>81059883>>81060171I can't get it now since I don't have enough money, but I'm hoping they'll still be around next month or two.
>>81060387That one probably has great performance but the aesthetic doesn't do it for me. I want dozens of thin fins rather than a chunk of extruded aluminum.
Cable management is doing my nut in and I'm starting to get impatient. What's your process in hooking everything up?
>>81060859Yes, yes I am.
>>81046879I have a b450 motherboard, what's the max cpu it can run in it? I don't want to buy b550 this close to the end of am4 and the advent of ddr5.
>>81060942Your case can kinda limit how well you can cable manage, but some common sense and a few zip ties go a long way.
>>81046879Do I get some new 1TB TLC+DRAM SSD or do I go for a gently used Samsung PM963 enterprise drive for the same price?
>>81061016>Heavily used ssdYou should definitely go new. I got a dramless 1tb drive and it's completely fine. Just disable swap and use 32gb ram.
>>81061092You can find ones that aren't worked to death and they have a TBW of like 1300 anyway
>>81061092what does 32gb ram have to do with it
>>81061214Swap on a dramless ssd will wear it the fuck out.
>>81061154Fuck hunting, I want that fresh warranty.
>>81046879I found an old Windows XP machine, its got an AMD Sempron, 1.5GB of DDR1 Ram and 80GB of storage. The VGA port looks like someone tried to disconnect it without unscrewing it and just tore the entire port off, so it's just sitting inside the case on the bottom, Its got 3 PCI slots and a AGP slot.My plan is to install Windows 95 / 98 onto it, get an AGP card to use as the display output and use this machine as a MS Paint shitposting machine or as a retro game machine. What card should I look for and what are some other upgrades I should put in it.I know its a shit setup, running only 1 core and 1 thread is fucking horrific but I suppose it should be enough for shitposting in Paint and trying out weird shit in Windows 95 / 98 (I haven't decided which one yet)
Finally I have the last piece of the puzzle. Not going to lie though, I'm tempted to just resell it for a profit and try and buy another one.
>>81060942>he bought windowed>>81061391>DLSS.jpgJust kidding, enjoy
I managed to get my hands on a 2700x and I can't work this thing out, considering that I've been stuck with an old Sandy Bridge cpu for years. What maximum processor state do I set it to? if its on 100% it randomly boosts the fan to max and its fucking annoying, if its on 99% it stops but won't boost to high clocks, if I edit the power mode to best performance and 99% the voltages seem to stupidly spike up to 1.5v max and I doubt thats good, how do you set this thing to work optimally
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/mmo525/msi_releases_agesa_1202_bios_for_x570_b550So the bios patch did absolutely fuck all for the USB issues and lots of people are still having the same exact fucking issues. What the fuck AMD?
All i want to say is fuck AMD I had a card in my cart today at step 2, it 503'd, i tried refreshing and then the server blocked me for refreshing.

Why did Nvidia gimp the 3070 by giving it only 8GB's of VRAM? It's genuinely a good card but even midrange AMD cards have 12+GB's of VRAM now. Will the 3070 ti have more?
I just bought an evga clc 240, what am I in for anons?ps I know the fans are trash Im using BQ fans with it

>>81061732I usually avoid clicking virus links, but checked this. There's some posts saying the update fixed it, some who fixed it by setting OC > Advanced CPU Configuration > AMD CBS > Power Supply Idle Control > Typical Current Idle in the BIOS, 2 still having USB problems, 1 complaining vaguely and possibly didn't get it installed, and lots of people with boards that aren't on the list complaining about how they haven't gotten patches yet.>>81062024>I am a radiologist and we use the Nuance Speech Mic.
