somebody mentioned MX-style beamspring switches in a previous thread and i did end up tracking them down, they're hall effects with a beamspring mechanism and a cherry mx stem for keycap compatibility
https://kono.store/collections/all-products-list/products/keystone-beam-spring-analog-switches
they get a chuckle out of me for "endlessly hotswappable" on their own keyboard designed for the switches since you can only hotswap their own switches thanks to the hall effect design

Just assembled this Hexgears gk705 with box royals for my sister. Build quality is ok for the price, has decent weight and feet. Had to paint the red sides and replace the shitty caps.

I was actually looking at leopold fc980m earlier. Seemed pretty good but micro usb is kinda cringe. Looked at durgod taurus which is usbc but seems to be worse than the leopold. Topre also seems to be for richfags only

>Had to paint the red sides and replace the shitty caps.
That's the first thing I did to my GK707 as well.
Did you modify the stabilizers at all? I found them to be very mushy, and clipping didn't seem to help a whole lot. Ended up just throwing on some clipped Cherry stabs.
>>
Whomstever responded to me asking chinks to knockoff the GMK Botanical set:

its insanely priced for what it is. china doesn't know what it's missing by not knocking off more subtle sets and colors and instead of shooting for the gamur market, or maybe they do because we're starting to see some good alts

macha is a good cheap set with some good keys for anyone looking for cute muted green tones

I love this layout.
1. 75%-ish
2. F keys divided into groups
3. Thumb keys
4. Keys in the middle
5. Hands wider, wrists straighter
6. Grid layout but wider on the top row, didn't try but I think makes sense

However it has lots of issues.
1. Should be columnar staggered, not just pinky column staggered
2. TGB and YHN are spaced out for no fucking reason but aesthetics
3. In the middle there should be more keys, i.e. 2-4 keys for each index finger
4. Hands need to be wider positioned, this doesn't look wide enough
5. Stabilizers
6. Keycap compatibility
7. More smaller thumb keys instead of big but few, which would also solve #5
8. Replace these arrow keys by a numpad, put some space in between it and alphanumeric
9. Needs 12 more keys for macros (similar to IBM 122), also spaced
10. Backspace and Enter on the right are useless and too big, split them into several keys.
11. Fn and Ctrl keys in the corners are too small

Does such a keyboard that fixes all of these exist? If there isn't one, what do?

the stock lube job is impressive. Springs are done better than you can do by hand as are the leaf and face of the stem with legs.
Lubing does not alter the feel only lowers the pitch. 67 feels nicer than 62.
these are from spring 2020 though. Could have got worse just like silks did with the second batch.
just get nk dries, durock L, waterkings or everglides if you can't find tangerines. Holding a everglide in one ear and a tangerine in the other both hand lubed with the same spring and spamming them you cannot detect any audible difference and of course none feels wise either

>>81033833
Right, the problem is that the long travel isn't really for me. I find the linears are the most silent but feel awful. Also, the xbows doesn't have a tented design, and one of my main issues is ulnar deviation (reaching for backspace with pinky and wrist motion), which a tent prevents.

Anon, X-bows fixes ulnar deviation, tenting fixes wrist pronation, which has nothing to do with reaching for backspace.
Backspace and Enter are available in the middle with your index fingers, you could also rebind thumb keys (which these rubber domes don't have)
X-bows has QMK which is a massive improvements in terms of ergonomics (if you use it ofc)
>>
>>81033802
are you willing to go to kinesis advantage 2 and kensigton slimblade levels of autistic ergo?
>>
>>81034372
Interesting info anon, but I actually find the tenting allows me to not have to move my wrist to the right to hit backspace, but I get what you're saying about wrist pronation. That xbows keyboard seems like a great rec though for most people seeing as how it has rebinds and a backspace in the middle, which is very desirable. Still, I don't like normal mechanical switches because of the travel. Also no wireless. Wtf?
>>
>>81034472

The sound of bottoming out is way louder than the actuation of the switch. That's why o-rings or switch silencers are a thing

if you're bottoming out, that isn't the switch, that's the keycaps, and the case.

You can dampen the bottom out with o-rings, "silent" switches, lubing your switches, and dampening foam inside the case, and potentially under the spacebar (as it's the most often used key generally and it's usually the loudest).
>>
>>81036348
I went with Boba U4s, thicc keycaps, and a shit load of foam.
Also made sure to lube and clip my stabs so they don't rattle and make noise.
>>81036357
The stabs are too loud, tho that could be fixed with lube. Also my keyboard sounds quieter but I don't know if it's just the mic they used. I'd like to give a sound test but the keyboard is too quiet for my phone to pick up and I'm pretty sure it's because it has some stupid noise suppression feature.

I've been thinking about getting a new keyboard
I live in the US, so any keyboard i buy will most likely be qwerty
Thing is, i do a lot of typing in german, so i tend to use the German qwertz layout since it has all the english symbols and letters I need plus äöü and ß
I'm looking for new key caps to go with a new keyboard for those letters
The shitty thing is, a full 104 key pack is really quite expensive, sometimes around $100
Little keyboard conversation kits that only have the new keys I need simply do not exist as far as google is concerned
Especially not ones that are the same color as the ones on the board I'm looking at plus translucent lettering for backlighting
On my old keyboard, i just used stickers, but those are clunky and i can't clean my keys without pealing them off

Anyone have any ideas or know of a place i can buy key caps

How do you define a "good" switch? Not making tinny sounds that you'll never hear unless you place your ear right up to the switch? Not having stem wobble that you'll never notice during normal use? Also how is colored transparent housing that fucks up leds a "feature?" Is there really such a thing as a better "feel" or is all just preference and artificial elitism?
>>
>>81040380
smoothness is objectively measurable and at least subjectively preferred.

sharpness of tactility is objectively measurable and at least subjectively preferred for some people, ditto with more rounded tactility.

in the end it's about preference mostly, but most facets of a switch can be measured and most of the community tends to agree that scratchiness, unwanted noises (contact leaf and spring ping), and unreliability are bad things.
>>
>>81040380
Ping & wobble are both noticeable during use. Zilents being more wobbly than boba u4s for example is definitely something you'd notice. Past that you have smoothness and what the force curve looks like; the latter being mostly up to preference.

Hello can someone recc keyboard for me?

1) Budget
$100-$200 CAD

2) Location
CANADA

3) Preferred switch type
I have only ever used blues and I like their tactility a lot but they are a little too loud imo. I'd like something with similar feel but quieter, if possible. Maybe browns?

4) Layout
ANSI

5) Form factor
TKL or maybe 75%

6) Backlight
Some backlight just so I can see it at night but doesn't need any fancy RGB gamer shit

7) Previous/current keyboard
Currently typing on Razer Blackwidow 2012. It's pretty decent but its super chunky, has an awful glossy finish, cringe font, and only blue RGB... I think something more neutral like white would be preferable.
>>
>Box switch broke my abs keycap....
>>
>>81043757
What should I search for to find compatible ones? I gather sets are not specific to model but to switch type?
>>
>>81044093
GK61 is Cherry MX-compatible, like the vast majority of keyboards nowadays. Almost any set of caps will work, but Cherry profile caps may hit the switch housings if they're facing a certain way.

If you like strong tactiles, Boba U4T's are a choice.

If you want a linear you can try a JWK/Durock switch, or one of the novelkeys silk series.
Maybe konpeitou switches are a choice too.

The boba silent linears should be slightly quieter since you don't have any noise from the tactile bump.
>>
>>81044021

novel keys,November 2018.
>>
>>81046455
could, rn i just need a silent board for nightposting
>>
>>81046474
Then the suggestion of silent bobas would work. They don't have ping & they're roughly as quiet as a rubber dome board.
>>
>>81046490
ah ok, how quiet are those compared to topre?
>>
>>81046457
Not anodizing, it's electrophoresis.
>>
>>81046457
e-white is a type of coating that is completely different from anodizing. the e is short for electrophoretic deposition
>>
>>81046434
why? bobas are quieter than a rubber dome
>>
>>81046512
I'd say try to find a sound test vid comparing the two but I can't seem to find one. Should be fairly similar in sound but it also depends on if its silent topre or not.
>>
>>81046512
to be honest it depends on the keyboard stabilizers. bobas are quieter than topres and sound about as loud as silenced topres, but if you get a cheap keyboard with rattly stabs it will be pretty loud. then again if you get a cheap rubber dome with rattly stabs it would sound about as loud.

good fucking lord i got an erection listening to that, that's on my bucket-list of how to trick out my keyboard when i get one that i can really mess with like that. my only problem with these switches is that there's some kinda quality-control problem with them and two or three of them were rapid-fire actuating on their own without any input and i had to replace them, good thing i got 110
>>
>>81046899
I had a similar issue when I threw in some of his grey silent linear stems into some nk silk yellow housings. Strangely the problem went away when I put the same stems inside nk silk blacks instead.

In any case, the kayboard just seems like a regular old tofu65 with a polycarb plate and some pbt keycaps. I don't think it would be that hard to replicate.
>>
>>81045135
They made it very clear that there'll be no flip flopping your choice.
What you should do is email them and ask if canceling your white(silver) and ordering a black now will impact when you get the keyboard. Because I assume anyone ordering now will still be in the flex batch.
But I'm not sure how they'll be doing the orders for the flex batch because there's a gojirrian of them compared to Batch 1
>>
Checked my GMMK Pro order status. Says it's at the sorting facility, so I'm assuming it'll ship out tomorrow. Going from Commiefornia to Ohio, so if I'm lucky it'll be in my hands by Monday.
>>
>>81046529
>>81046518
I figured people would misunderstand. Anon was responding to someone complaining that there is no white GMMK pro, saying that there is no white anodizing. This is true, but it doesn't matter because e-white exists, which fills the original anon's need.
>>
>>81047323
There's no misunderstanding. If that anon wanted to be clear he'd say that e-white used electrophresis, because just saying "what is e-white" in reply to a post talking about anodizing implies that e-white is some kind of anodizing. If you don't want to be corrected then be precise in your language, simple as that.

I’d like purchase advice. There’s a sale at epomaker and idk if there’s better prices.

Thinking of getting the SK66(the SK68 looks better) with black optical switches for supposedly the better typing experience and buying a set of 15 optical silvers for $13($5 off). The silvers would be placed on the keys I commonly use to game on. It’ll be my daily driver till I form a custom keyboard.
>>
>>81047855
Depending on if the optical switches and better RGB are a dealbreaker for you (if they are, stick with Epomaker) I'd go with a Keychron K6, purely for the mechanical switch hotswap.

just get switches separately. it's hotswap, so you'd end up replacing the shitty gateron browns it would come with if it did. board with no switches or caps is pretty standard. at least this one is fully assembled and comes with stabilizers and a pcb unlike most of the other custom kits that the gmmkp is meant to compete against. if you get a tofu65 from kbdfans, you'd have to buy a case, pcb, and stabs all separately and put the board together yourself

I recommend a hotswappable Keychron K6, I was going to suggest a K2 but the cunts don't make a hotswappable version. It's considered 65% according to them but the Idobao isn't 75% by that measure either, it has one more key than the Keychron. $80 with no RGB (white backlighting), $90 with RGB, $100 with an aluminum case. Personally I think the ABS cases on Keychrons sound better typing.
>>
>>81048233

Glorious is an American company but their first flagship GMMK was a purchased OEM design from Tecware, an Asian company that mainly operates in places like Indonesia, the Philippines, and the UK for some reason. Everything but the GMMK and probably their cleaning kit (a microfiber cloth, a bulb-syringe for compressed air, and a tiny brush) is their own design as far as I know.

The only thing that's a rebadge in their entire lineup is the GMMK which is a Tecware Phantom Elite and it's not any cheaper if you import one from them. They also don't have 60% or TKL versions and the GMMK does. You're rooting for a reduced-price chink version of their hardware and there isn't one, probably won't be one besides case copycats.

It takes about thirty minutes for an absolute noob to switch out the switches, and the switches will work fine after words. t. using a hotswap board I put together myself.
>>
>>81053747
He's talking about opening up each switch to remove the clickbar being too much work.

Not that swapping out switches is too much work.
>>
>>81053759
Oh, I'm a moron.

>>81053702
nvm dude

Anybody got a recommendation for a zealios substitute? Or at least something similar that I can try before I go and drop more for a full build? I'm gonna be getting an ikki later on in the year and was thinking I'd fill it with something tactile since I've never tried that out before but a dollar per switch is pretty crazy. I thought to buy a planck and buy forty for that but I'm really wondering as to whether stock zealios are actually worth that asking price.
>>
>>81053810
boba U4T
>>
>>81053810
get a JWK tactile or Bobas. Zealios are overpriced and Zeal refuses to innovate.
>>
Does anyone have a Redragon K530? What's it like?
>>
I couldn't be arsed to wank over which tactile switch is the best so I just ordered Glorious Pandas because they are popular.
>>
>>81053865
They're not, Holy pandas are popular.

Glorious pandas are subpar.
>>
>>81053826
>>81053841
Are the bobas in stock anywhere though? Seems like every store I found was sold out.
>>
>>81053879
See, it's these outlandish opinions I don't care about. Too much wanking over nothìng.
>>
>>81053890
They had a restock recently but have since sold out again at most places.

They're very popular recently because they're cheap as fuck and better than almost any other tactile switch. Plenty of people prefer them over Holy pandas or Zealios.
>>
>>81053902
Lmao okay whatever kid. Pretend they're holy pandas if it makes you feel better about your dumb purchase.
Glorious pandas are demonstrably worse, but what do I know.
>>
>>81053890
bought mine off aliexpress

>>81053491
Anon box royals click if you don't lube them
>>
>>81054084
Yes, most tactile switches click unless they're silenced. But it's going to be less audible than a switch with a fucking clickbar installed
>>
>>81054084
Do box royals still have that ping\click issue?
>>
>>81054155
Yes, that's the spring, you can lube it though
>>
>>81053702
> YES IT IS HOTSWAPPABLE BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE TOO MUCHWORK AND WILL PROBABLLY MAKE THESWITHC NOT VERY NCIE!!!
I did exactly that with Gateron optical blue, it's really not hard. Spend an hour of time once and save nerves for the future
>>81054110
It's a known issue of the box tactiles, they click https://youtu.be/pfixy2htkj0
>>
>>81054159
Oh, cool, I've always thought it was the leaf.
>>
>>81054197
It's a bit of both if I remember, the ping is the spring, the click is the leaf.
>>
>>81053890
I got my bobas from ringerkeys. Tho they only have the silent ones in stock
>>
>>81054308
The regulars were still in-stock ~2 days ago when i debated on buying 90 of them.
>>
>>81054342
they're sold out now unfortunately, but they do restock regularly
>>
>>81052623
pranked
>>
>>81053238
Boba U4T, comes in 62g springs and 68g springs, produces the deepest T H O K K on the market and everything after that is your own keyboard modification
>>
>>81053993
Ditto for Aliexpress, they're always in stock there but you have to live with Ali's shipping times of ~3 weeks
>>
Is Gateron yellow and ks 3 the same thing?
>>
>>81053993
>>81054546
oh, duh. thanks lads I'll just grab em off there.
>>
>>81054564
IIRC ks-3’s are a variant of gateron yellows, which are named after the color of the stem.

So yes. Theremingoat has a good write up on them.
>>
>>81054564
KS-3 is the "series" of switch, in this case it means it uses the milky housing and milky top or black housing and black top.
Some people pay extra for them because they supposedly sound nicer, but they're a little scratchier than the black bottom clear top KS-8 series.

WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO GET KEYCAPS, NOT RETARDED 100 DOLLAR COLLECOTORSO REDITION CAPS I JUST WANT NICE KEYCAPS?? ? ??
>>
>>81055864
amazon
HKgaming has some nice quality sets
>>
>>81055864
kbdfans, their retro set is a good dev/tty alternative at half price but no compatibility lower than tkl because it doesn't have a small right shift
>>
New thread?
On phone so I can't make one
>>
>>81056772

>>
>>81056775
