>>80348003The hack is to use a kitchen benchtop
>>80348255Most people using the hack also install stands between desktop and drawers that raise the height some.I wonder if there is a hack to make it adjustable height
The best "desk hack" for IKEA is to just buy the fucking drawers only; you only need one or two of them, not three. Go to home depot and get 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood (the smooth one with a grain, not the shitty one made of wood chips) and have it cut to your specifications. Sand the edges smooth, stain/paint it your desired color, and seal it with polyurethane. Voila, you now have a desk. If you only bought one set of drawers, you can buy plumbing pipe or chain link fence posts for legs. If you're up against a wall, you can just drill an L shape wooden block into the wall and rest one side of the desk on that.I've heard of people just using linseed oil to seal the bare wood instead, but having to oil my desk periodically doesn't seem like a fun proposition for me. Besides, if I spill shit on my desk, I like it to be totally waterproof.
>>80352129One problem: The drawers are not good. They don't use rails and does not open/close smoothly
>>8034960719" i believe is the width its not that good for a desk.>>80347963I have one of those butcher blocks they are not that good if you want width specially if you have a multi monitor setup.

Honestly, rather than IKEA, the best cheapo desk hack is to be like that one guy who used those cheap metal garage shelves to build a desk. Upside is there's plenty of places to attach things you can hang your shit on. You can even make a poorfag standing desk using that method.

My worry is cutting them all to length and/or width to put it together properly. I know we have power saws, I don't know how good they or their blades are. I am a cheap bastard and I do like the idea of saving shit from the landfill, so it's not like I'm not considering it, I just worry about fucking it up, or fucking myself up in carelessness.

How would wood like this be for a desk? Would it sag?https://www.bunnings.com.au/2200-x-600-x-26mm-acacia-solid-oiled-hardwood-project-panel_p8330032I might put it on an electric adjustable bench frame
>>80363619>BowYou use KNEEL
>>80359247Where do you put your knees when you sit at the right bench?
>>80359258>this is a really bad idea. those are sprayed in all kinds of industrial shit chemicals that will give you cancer. That's actually not really the issue anymore, as bromide treated pallets are no longer commonplace (iirc they are outright banned in Europe). The issue is not knowing what they've been used to transport & what could therefore have leaked onto them. However many industries will treat them as single use items, so if you can source single use pallets from a known safe route then you're fine.
>>80357603I've had two of those trustles for desk legs for like the last twelve years. really sturdy, but also really awkward dimensions, can't really put anything useful on them.
>>80364230Well he said the whole point is that pallet manufacturers still secretly add them (or something just as toxic) regardless of legislation.
>>80355517this looks oddly comfortable
>>80347536uh oh you better have a license for this one brosale & possession of sawed-off desktops is punishable under federal law
>>80363619>reddit ikea cabinetsYou fucking soiled it.
Remember loading up an assembled ikea galant desk i bought on craigslist on top of a car and hoping it survived the 4 mile trip back home.Have banged it up a little over the years, few scratches here and there, but it's alright. Not my pic.
>>80348691The ultimate hack is to just buy wood, cut it to length, and screw it together. Screws are crazy good now, you can build decent furniture even if you're a dumbass and never done it before.
>>80353030>My worry isn't the disassembly of the pallet, that should just be as hard as loosening the screws with a good power drill.Pallets are nailed together, so you'll probably want to use a crowbar and hammer to disassemble them.Just make sure you get the ones that have the HT or DH logo on them (heat treated) and not MB (methyl bromide). Before cutting them with a saw, use a magnet to find any nails that might be embedded in the wood. Look up how to use a circular saw (or whatever you have) on youtube to get a good idea, and just keep your fingers well away from the blade.
>>80364466There's no reason for them to do that, though. Very few wood pallets come from Asia, and you don't want to risk your entire container getting sent back to China because the pallets were shit. They do check those things quite thoroughly in customs.
>not integrating 19" rack drawers, filing cabinets, computer cases, cable management panels, IEC connector PDUs and laptop cases into your desk
>>80347322this hack is absolute shit tier. the desk will be way too high for ergonomic working.
I don't understand this thread, why does every single one of you have the same disgusting carpet or whatever this crap is? Looks absolutely terrible.
>>80347536Bro thats a coom cave
I built this one from shit I found at the hardware store. It's nice being able to finish the wood yourself
>>80347963>>80348513>>80349428>>80351602>>80355615>>80355639>>80367696Redpill me on the ubiquity of this shitty ugly all-floor carpet. It looks terrible and is probably a nightmare to maintain.
>>80366750Are you a midget? If anything, that desk is too low. And having to share the same height desk with someone else is going to make things difficult if you're not the same height.
>>80367858Carpet is really cheap and also it hides dirt, Laminate flooring needs to be cleaned way more often
>>80367984Ah, so it's just a cheapo solution, makes sense. Honestly it gives me shudders thinking about cleaning such an area of a carpet, especially if it's semi-permanently attached to the floor so can't be chemically cleaned.
>>80368034Unless you're an American who never takes their shoes off inside, it really doesn't get that dirty
>>80367858>the ubiquity of this shitty ugly all-floor carpetU S A
>>80347322I don't understand how people can spend over 2k on gamer shit and buy this rather than spending like $100 extra on something like pic related. It's still particle board, but at least it has a nice steel underframe.
>>80368225The biggest issue with particleboard is that if the surface is scratched or through the edges it absorbs water
>>80364128Yeah that would work really well if you don't mind the price. It would be a lot cheaper if you bought unfinished pine from the trade section and stained it yourself tho
>>80347322So everything is a 'hack' now?
>>80368352It also starts looking like shit after dragging your lower arms across it for five years. Solid wood you can just sand down a little and it'll look like new.

What about wood flooring on any sturdy enough sheets and edge details?
>>80362534>consumer tier dell prebuilt>hotbox corner>vapeYes to all. I haven't built a gaming PC in over ten years because I was busy chain-smoking and playing consoles. I bought an Inspiron 3671 on sale with an i7 and GTX 1650, threw 32gb of ram into it, and it's fine for playing everything I want to play on steam.I might buy another case eventually, but it runs quiet and cool without any RGBTQ nonsense

>>80347322lol I just put a single plywood table on top of whatever shit I found in the house and stacked it until it was even with my only drawer (right), and put some fabric on top of the plywood to make it look less shit, then on top a glass panel that doesn't even cover the whole desk, only the keyboard/mouse area. It's messy but it does the job. This is a temporary solution as I'm doing my research on what to buy next, this one seems to be best for my needs so far: >>80351602
