craigslist or whatever your countries equivalent is
>>80337661in 2008. they aren't cheap anymore unless you live in a 3rd world country
Good CRTs dont exist
>>80337661>CRT>GOOD>PICK ONE OF THE ABOVE ONLYGo troll e-waste collection sites, they'll probably pay you to take that crap away as it's literally toxic waste with ZERO recycling value. Glass recyclers won't take them, the dump won't take them, the only thing worse to get rid of is spent nuclear fuel rods from a nuclear power plant.Don't waste your time on obsolete crap like that, just get a new monitor.
>>80337661The "sitting in someone's basement" days are over m8, they all got trashed leaving only the ones in hands of hoarders that know you want what they have.
win the lottery at a thrift store like I did.>>80337984take gear to test it, I've burned myself a couple times that way.
>>80337661The novelty wears off in a week and you're stuck with this big unsightly cuboid Don't do it
>>80338141Smash Brothers will take them.
>>80338266>win the lottery at a thrift store like I did.the thrift stores near me don't even accept CRTs for donation anymore, let alone sell them. Same with computers themselves, actually, they'll turn you away and tell you to take it to one of those electronics-recycling places that dissolves everything for the gold.
>>80338318They should be smashed into little pieces that's all they're good for anymore, LOL.

>>80338412>>it's understandable, the lead in most tubes is an issue.it isn't actually, for the same reason that it's safe to drink out of your grandmother's lead-crystal glassware. Leaded glass isn't a safety or environmental hazard because glass is such an incredibly stable compound. Even if you throw them in a landfill and leave them there for hundreds of years, the lead stays in the glass, since it's firmly chemically bound into it.
>>80338732I've had many giant CRTs on many zoomer ikea paper desks and never had this problem.
I'm sure those CRT monitors contributed to my vision loss over the years.
>>80338353The CRT is clearly giving you brain cancer
>>80337661You don't, just go with hdr10. Infinitely better in every way.
>>80340340>he doesn't want superpowers
>>80340386>but muh heckin transfer functionerinoLCDs can't even display it properly anon.
I did CRT's in school, but barely. My first PC was a Gateway in the early 2000's and it came with a 17'' 1280x1024 LCD.
Why are Zoomers into CRTs again? They're power hogs and once those tubes burn out into the trash they go.

>>80341769Thad is that you?
>>80337661Anywhere. Don't see the problem.
>>80337661there is literally no point of having a CRT for a computer monitor. some cases can be made for TVs, but other wise you're retarded
>>80338258I tried selling mine a while ago but nobody bought so i took the listing down again If i wait another 10 years or so the fucking thing will prolly be worth thousands lol
>>80344012I use PS2 emulators and render scaling breaks games, so I have to stick to native resolution, which looks much better on a low end CRT than any panel.
>>80344012CRT monitors capable of high resolutions (1600x1200, 1920x1440) are great for both modern and retro gaming. No motion blur, great viewing angles, nice colors and support for many resolutions (for old games). CRT TVs support lower resolutions, there's less of a reason to own one than a high-end CRT monitor.
>>80344134This! Modern gaming monitors are a joke, no reason to waste several hundred bucks for edge lit smeary garbage when you can find nice trinies even for free, with some effort. You can spend the money saved on an actuaally good LCD for other uses.
>>80344430>Modern gaming monitors are a jokeThis. Don't fall for the "gaming" branded shit. Most higher end panels have all the same features and more, with better picture.
>>80344430>for edge lit smeary garbageWhat year are you from? Backlit zones have been a thing for years. Don't understand why people who don't know shit think they should take part of discussions they have no idea about.
>>80344893>Backlit zones have been a thing for yearsnot on gaming monitors, and you'll be paying out the ass.
>>80337661I was so lucky. I was biking around my neighborhood when I saw 2 crts left out near the communal recycle bin (this was in the bourgeois part of the neighborhood). First one was yellow, curved, but flawless. The other was fine colorwise but had a broken stand and the antireflective coating was peeling. Also the tube was kinda off center. I'm only keeping it cause it's a flat panel of a higher resolution than the other one.
>>80344893Link me a direct-lit gaming monitor, I've never seen one reviewed. All "HDR local dimming" gaming monitors I've heard of are fucking edge lit with like couple dimming zones, a complete scam. Pic related, your beloved odyssey.
>>80344893>Don't understand why people who don't know shit think they should take part of discussions they have no idea about.holy fuck the irony in this statement is too much
>>80345063Okay, here's a list of some direct lit monitors ..https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tests/picture-quality/local-dimmingSome direct lit monitors still look like this, what the fuck? The best one on that list seems to be this VAhttps://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/s3220dgfActually looks quite nice. But motion tests still unsurprisingly look like utter garbage.
>>80344942>>80345156whoopssee: >>80345063>>80345228
>>80345950The zoned edge lighting in anon's first post looks so bad it's not even worth using, and the gaming monitor they linked in the second post doesn't actually have dimming zones according to the review, it's just a decent VA panel.
About a year ago I got my Viewsonic at an e waste place near me for $5 (probabably could've been free). They let me look around everything they had. Shame I lost their address though
>>80341769Why do you still exist
>>80337661local listings. I live in yurop but computer crts are still cheaply available, usually go for $15-20 or so. Now with video monitors, something like Sony PVM series are going up in prices tho still way cheaper than on burger scambay.Word of advice, don't look for old high end monitors but cheaper ones that where made near the end of CRT era, way simpler and easier to maintain, same goes for old VCRs and shit like that.
>>80338258Wrong I have a 19 inch amptron sitting in my closet. Bought it in 99. Still works perfectly.
>>80346810
>>80344134There is a reason to use a lower resolution TV is you need composite for stuff like dithering.
>>80338141>Don't waste your time on obsolete crap like that, just get a new monitorThe people who make these threads are poorfags from third world countries. They have no choice but to buy them.
I found a trick with my 4:3 monitor to display 16:9 properly.I made a video that has 4:3 resolution with letter boxing for a 16:9 video.I display it on my CRT at a 4:3 resolution and make a simple trace with paper to give me a reference point. Then I set my output to 1920x1080i and use the monitor's internal resizing settings to show 16:9 letterboxed properly.I don't know if there is resolution reduction when resizing, but my bad math figures it out to be about 1.5 megapixels of resolution. Maybe I'm getting 1633x919 resolution in 16:9.
>>80346901True, hence why I didn't say they are totally useless.
>>80337661Recycle center, call them up and say you're an artist looking for scrap metal for an installation project and you're willing to pay money for scrap.
>>80338477No, only on ebay. Its mainly cause of shipping so don't be convinced they're worth that much. CRT Shills will only show you ebay prices and never facebook marketplace/offerup/craigslist prices. Typically on them they go from free-15$
>>80339162>grandmother's lead-crystal glasswarit actually is a problem, if you leave liquor bottle the lead will diffuse into the liquid, takes time(years to decades) to accumulate to potentially damaging levels, but it does happen. I will agree that for everything else its basically fine, though you should take care not to scratch leaded glass, as its not as hard as normal glass, could lead to contamination.
>>80347031dont be retarded, just use the monitor's adjustments to squish the beam deflection, most should be capable of 16:9
>>80346261>just picks ONE out of a dozen displays to talk aboutNice cherry picking faggot
>>80348376I cherry picked a direct-lit high refresh monitor with the best uniformity on that list. Did you look at it yourself? There is exactly ONE (1) full array local dimming monitor there, for eye watering $1350 and it still seems like cost optimized gamer crap.
Is there a single ips monitor with good blacks?
>>80348722never relax
>>80348357Which I did.I just needed to figure out a point of reference so I gave an example on how to get a point of reference.
>>80341440They are pricey as shit...
>>80337734can confirm
>>80348722They top out around 1600:1 which is above average but still much worse than any cheap shit VA which can double that.
>>80338141It's oging to be an arcade emulationfag who wants a crt for the authentic look for his retro games...
