Where can I get PBT keycaps for ISO-ES layout? Really I just want Ñ. Maybe a PBT spacebar as well, as I hear that HHKB BT has an ABS soacebar.
>>80322368Also these. Shame this stuff never exists in iso, especially nordic.
Is keyboard interference with Cherry profile keycaps on north-facing switches a thing that only audiophiles and autists worry about or is it a legitimate gamechanging thing?
>>80322222It’s really amazing the way people get their brains so thoroughly fried by memes, to the point their posts are no longer intelligible English without significant context.
>>80322408Azerty here. I went with blanks ISO caps. They exist on ali.
>>80322787How do I know if the keys will fit topre switch?
i just bought a model m yesterday, ama
>>80322314What spam? The food or the post?>>80322743Yes Engrish good.
Tokyo Press
>>80322204i really dont care for the model m. its sort of meh. the membrane driven buckling spring is sort of stiff and has 2 key rollover, plus you have to deal with bolt mod and all that other garbage. however, the model f solves all these issues with capacitive buckling spring. i have a bunch of these and i use a 60% f as my daily.>>80322204if this board had alps compat i think id have 6 of them already... such an amazing idea

I am thinking of buying a Durgod Taurus K320 as my first mechanical keyboard. Are cherry mx brown switches good? Not sure if I want tactile or if I should get red. I will be typing and playing games.
>>80323187Browns have very weak tactility. That's why they get shit on a lot.
>>80322921not in any meaningful sense.
>>80322850oo, what keeb?Always on the lookout for non-shit less-expensive topre, which is what I presume this is
>>80323201I see them either being recommended as a good middle ground, or a bad compromise depending on who you ask so i am not sure.Is it true that it would be fatiguing to get anything stiffer than reds, browns or blues?
>>80322921In absolute terms or nitpicking yes, in practical terms no.
>>80323251>Is it true that it would be fatiguing to get anything stiffer than reds, browns or blues?not. used greens for years and now uses box navy
>>80323251>Is it true that it would be fatiguing to get anything stiffer than reds, browns or blues? That's entirely preference. Personally I like switches that bottom out in the range of 67-75g.
>>80323187>>80323201>>80323251browns being a 'good compromise' is a meme. they feel nearly linear compared to literally any other tactile. id recommend getting a small switch tester to see what you like the feel of most. https://kbdfans.com/collections/switches-tester/products/gateron-12-switches-tester
>>80322934Piggybacking off of this dude's question, I searched around and noticed Holy Pandas don't have this issue. Since their stems are Halo Trues, does that mean Halo True switches also don't have this issue or is the Holy Pandas not affected due to the height of the Invyr housing?
>>80322656yes it matters 100%. the inside of the keycap hits on the front of the housing making it sound and feel weird. take a look at dcs if you wanna go with something like cherry but without interference.>>80323462yes. some switches (like pandas) have a slightly taller stem making the issue with cherry profile caps a lot less of an issue. although, id recommend going with south facing regardless of switch if you are ever planning on cherry profile.
>tfw fell for the gmemek
>>80323960can't believe you got memed into a good keyboard
is there a 10keyless with dedicated media keys? people say that it defeats the purpose of the compact size but i feel like they could easily fit around the space of the arrow keys, pic relatedDISCLAIMER: I KNOW JACK SHIT ABOUT KEYBOARDS
>>80324071unfortunately, not many. the only one i can think of is the corsair k65/k63. the only downside is that it looks really "gamery" and the caps are shite quality, plus, you have to deal with cherry as your only option.or you can spend a lot of money designing and manufacturing your own. or maybe even pay someone to do it? i think a full nav cluster with dedicated media keys would be pretty cool as a high end custom
>>80324071imo for something so rarely used, just go with a board that supports qmk and put it in a layer. the quickfire rapid (old, no qmk support) put them in a layer on some of the f keys

If I plug a keyboard into my laptop, will I still be able to adjust the brightness with Fn+F keys?
>>80324432Maybe. What keyboard? What laptop? What OS? USB HID does define brightness control but some (mostly older) laptops and keyboards are using proprietary codes (for example lenovo SK-8855 with T61)Or did you mean keyboard leds brightness?
>>80324432will have to send the right keycodes probably
is a model m even worth buying?
>>80324327>i use media keys so much i prefer dedicated keys>dont get media keys, they are rarely used
>>80324596think of it like play/pause is ctrl-c and dedicated keys are live an actual "copy" button. It's not bad at all.inb4 you say you'd like a dedicated copy key too
>>80324511if you can find one for cheap, yes. i wouldnt go paying over $100 for one. theyre definitely neat and fun to restore, but its pretty bulky and is lacking some modern luxuries. they almost always need to be bolt modded which is a huge pain in the ass. its basically a cool collectable that you break out every once in a while and then sell for $500 once the hobby grows into people buying e-waste for ridiculous amounts of money.
Damn it all I'll have to crack open this Qwerkywriter whether I like it or not, the R key suddenly died on me. I'll use that time to fix the left Alt and X keys I guess.
>>80324608>he doesn't have a dedicated copy key

>>80323187I have a store in my country that let me tried different keyboards with different switches. Try to go to one if there is one nearby. What is the best laptop chiclet style keyboard? Got a friend that got an external mechanical keyboard for his laptop but can't get used to it as he found it too tall.
>>80322156Looking for Keycap sets that support ISO-CH Layout (Swiss). It looks like the only option we get are ancient cherry keyboards or abs gaymer rgb keycaps.
>>80322408>ISO-ES>needs PBT space bar>HHKB BTAnon please, get your shit together. Buy a HHKB Hybrid and use US INTL.
>>80325399Either get a Topre Short-throw keyboard (pic related) or an IBM M4-1.Nice build quality and just sublime switches.
>>80325654INTL is subpar. I type a ton and fast(120wpm+) and am already accustomed to ISO-es. I just want printed keys as mine are blank and my wife and kids can't touch type yet.
What should I work on next for these boards? Alps switch support, a diamond arrow cluster at the bottom, PCBs for other thumb clusters, something else?
>>80322266It's really peculiar. For me, they are too heavy but as always, try them out before making a statement
>>80324426Try good switches
>>80324511It's worth like 50$ and it's superior to the ones you posted. Wether you like the keyswitch or not is personal preference. Give them a try
>>80319976>That package includes its own current limiting resistors. What do you mean by the package?I ordered those to be printed myself.
>>80325193>Keycodes?the laptop isn't really adjusting settings with the f keys most likely. with qmk you could bind brightness adjustment keys to a layer
>>80324511very overrated but sorta cool to have in a drawer
>>80324511no. they're the mk equivalent of a thinkpad. don't fall for the meme, just save up for a custom you want.
>>80325772RGB, bluetooth&battery are fun projects. Also alps sounds nice, never seen an ergo with alps.
I'm unironically going to buy a mechanical keyboard now and I literally don't even know why
I bought some Zealios V2 67g as an upgrade to my MX Browns, what am I in for? They're arriving this week
>>80326379>bluetooth&batteryMaybe, but no QMK support is a turnoff. There is this old alps build, would essentially just have to code it to be a parameter between MX and alps switch holes.
>>80326454Significantly greater tactility. The browns will feel even more linear than they already do in comparison.
Someone explain why topre can't be made as individual swappable switches.
>>80322850Woah you upgraded, very nice. I spent hours looking for those green keycaps, it’s a shame they are no longer being sold. Where are the spacebar and enter key from? Also is the Norbauer worth it?
>>80327196They can, you can just swap out the domes for Redux for example
>>80327500But the keyboard and pcb has to be designed for the switch, doesn't it?You can't put topre switches, with domes, on a regular hotswap pcb?
>>80327673Topre is electro capacitive, a sheet of rubber domes over spherical springs. They are in no way similar to Cherry switches. So no, you can’t put that on a regular (=Cherry) hotswap PCB.
Spacebar on my RK71 is rattling already after two months. How do I fix it?
You are all a bunch of fucking manchildren and children.
>>80327983Lube the stabilizers
>>80328152I agree, everyone on this site is the worst
>>80327983IDK if yours has hotswap or not1. Pull the keycap2. See those stabilizer crosses? Pull them out as much as possible3. Put in a small drop of silicone dielectric grease on each cross
I really want a set of SA caps for my Race 3. I love this thing but this esc key is busting my balls.
>>80328504This is what it looks like. Could I just pour some of the grease on it without having to take anything out or disassemble?
>>80326490Take a look at zmk. Not too different to qmk but with bluetooth support. The alps board looks nice but holy cable. Would probably be good to replace those caps with xda pbt caps.
>>80329710Isn't that a gateron with a milky to and black bottom housing?
Where can I get a 100% pcb?
My old keyboard broke. Anybody got recommendations on a good budget mechanical?

Finding ISO-CH is such a pain in the ass. I'm still contemplating giving up and switching to ANSI with a custom layer for accented characters for french and german at some point.
Ok you faggots I just got enough of this shit. There are no real pre-built ISO mechanical keyboards.I have never used ANSI ever. Well, once. It is rare like a unicorn here and my language has NO ANSI layouts. Zero. Nulla.I'm gonna build one from the ground up with ISO in mind. Where do I begin? Answer this please and thank you. >>80322862Model F is way more irritating to actually restore, though. Less durable plastic shells and the sheer hell of opening up that tight sandwich and cleaning out the decomposed foam and cutting your own is far more annoying than a bolt mod. Hell, screw modding is even easier and a lot of people prefer it since it doesn't change the key feel.
>>80330704personally I dont see the appeal in split keyboards, I So am happy with the shinobi.Shinobi is lowkey endgame. I havent felt like I need anythinig else since. Cherry blacks and trackpoint nipple is great. Build quality is good enough, the mouse buttons aren't the best and come off if you bash them enough but If you bash them only. keyprint is rubbing off slowly over the year, I think in a couple years I will replace them with a new set tex release if they do. If they dont then I just dont care enough since it feels nice and nipple!

I really don't understand why people like aluminum cases so muchEvery aluminum case I've tried sounds much worse than a plastic case
>>80322156I miss using my IBM Model M but I had some issue where I'd turn on my computer and I'd get no input from the keyboard until after the GRUB boot menu. It would only be for the first time, however, and would not affect me if I restarted the computer. I made sure PS/2 and legacy USB support was enabled in the BIOS. If it makes any difference, this is a single combo PS/2 port. This also affected me on the same computer when I used an active adapter.
>>80335956Its premium even though its worseAlso aluminium is far more practical for small production run products than plastic, it can be milled relatively cheaply whereas making anything remotely complex out of plastic means creating molds, so aluminium is used for a lot more custom stuff outside the normal form factors

I like how smooth and wobble free the bobas are but I like the rounder bump of the pandas. Maybe I should just make a franken with the pink boba bases since the weaker leaf would mean a smaller bump.
>>80334244You can get a 1.5u novelty key as an escape key. DSA milkshake for example has those 1.5u accented symbols you can easily use to substitute as an escape key.
>>80336750Linears feel good to type on. Go to keyboard if you have a keyboard store nearby.
>>80339223Congrats you saved a lot of money
>>80339324Glorious is actually coming out with their own line of PBT backlit keycaps iirc. Not sure when.
>>80339331The U4Ts feel exactly the same to me as the U4S(I have a few left over from a board I made for my brother). I don't have any glorious pandas on hand so I can't tell you if they differ any from legit halo stems.
Is XDA profile good for someone coming from modern thinkpad keyboard?
>>80339223I haven't bought a keyboards for about a year and a half then I bought an NK65 last month then started coming here and reserved a gmmk pro. I should have never opened that email form novel keys. baka.
>>80330246thanks for this, yes I am also thinking about switching to ANSI once and for all. do you know about the US international layout? they have all the special characters build in. its like switzerland could just use the US international layout instead of creating this meme layout.
>>80339543The glorious ones feel pretty much exactly the same as other pandas to be honest. I assume you agree that the bobas have a bigger bump to them than the pandas yea?
Thinking of getting a macropad style smaller board specifically for gaeming. Would like to have a rotary encoder set up horixontal under my left thumb....actually, I should start looking into building this sort of thing from the ground up.
>>80339212These were only $35 so they're probably knockoffs but they feel surprisingly solid for the price desu
>>80336852don't even mind him being suspicious about the sincerity of glorious on their keyboards but nah he came across as an overly hostile /v/irgin who can't control himself
>>80330612do the keycaps work on other mx keyboards ?
>>80340135Yes, they're Cherry profile keycaps, you can buy them individually
>>80340288what about keycap sizes some youtuber said they are non standard
I'm looking for a GMMK pro lookalike. Mainly interested in the layout and rotary encoder. Chink clone would be fine. I just love that layout and not tryna drop $250 to build my first keeb
>>80340135>>80340338TEX ADA profile, only exists in black ABS iircYou can get ones specifically modified for Shinobi (trackpoint cutout, downscaled function keys) or normal sized sets (104, extra or vanity legends)>>80330612>>80331115>called Shinobi>no silent black prebuiltI will never stop being mad about having to spend extra money and time on it.
Packet lubing both the springs and the stem is such a time saver. It's actually incredibly consistent on the stem too and even gets a nice light coat inside the stem, all I do now is lube the bottom housing a little and put it together.
does anyone have alice tgr layout? is it more comfy than a standard layout?
>>80339027I have the same set and they're ZDA, basically the same as XDA.
>>80339324i have these https://drop.com/buy/npkc-gradient-pbt-doubleshot-side-lit-keycap-set theyre decent, but they don't have an extra 1.75u key for 65% right shifts
>>80339304I ordered one yesterday, how long of a wait am i in for?
Why don't RGBfags realize they are flashing the rainbow faggot flag on their desk ?
>>80336049Be very careful. Don't rattlecan that.
>>80340342Why isnt the spacebar area solid? That open line to the stabs annoys me because it allows shit go get into the pcb layer
>>80322204pig disgusting
>>80341303Yeah those keys are tacky as fuck
>>80324894Oh man I had this exact retarded keyboard back in 2005. The memoris.

>>80322156My Ducky one2 mini is about to die (key chattering), what would be a good not too expensive 60%?
>>80341616Just replace the switches that are chattering anon.
It's scary how tactile and quiet the boba 4U silents are when lubed. I don't know how to feel about this.
>>80341645I dont have a solder iron and they are not hot swap switches
>>80333668> So I read this rationalization from a 40% user, I might want to buy one but I can only spend 140 USD on one. Any cheap 40% PCBs? Split/fixed split preferredBump
>>80341700A soldering iron & the skills to use it are pretty handy anon, maybe time to pick one up. A TS100 is fairly cheap but still a great iron.
>>80332651You still here anon? Is it cool if you added me on steam? 1055812218 is my code. Might need some help when the dielectric grease I ordered comes.
>>80341700A soldering iron can be yours for 1/10th the cost of your meme keyboard. Learn a new skill anon.
>>80334797Found them on ali, how do they differ from normal creams? Just water resistant or what?
>>80341593kbdfans makes one probably a lot cheaper and it's really goodhttps://kbdfans.com/collections/carrying-case/products/kbdfans-carrying-case-for-hhkb
Dielectric grease became a dielectric oil (somehow). Is that an issue? I mean it certainly works, even if the feeling is a little bit soft and cushy (not mushy or anything, just different) compared to the previous result, but still.
How exactly would you lube kailh box switches? Lube the stem and the spring? Was thinking of trying out some box whites.
Southpaw numpad are Gateron blues, alphas are zealios, fn toggle arrows are tealios
>>80336748They cost less than your average "custom keyboard" while being superior. Pull the trigger and ascend, pussy
>>80342197Does not fit the BT model unless you cut out parts. The Van nuys case is specifically made only for the BT.
Is it difficult to wire your own rgb?All the tutorials I've seen use led strips or no backlight
>>80339618Like I said they feel the same to me, though until I tried out tactiles in general I only used linears. In terms of tactility of the switches I’ve tried from most to least; zealios v2’s, boba u4(s/t)/pandas, then gat browns on the bottom.
>>80322156Have you guys ever used Matias keebs? How are they?
>>80343890I haven't used matias stuff but I've used regular alps.
>>80340472I'm using an actual splitd and the alice layout confuses me because you're still forcing both hands close together. It doesn't really seem more ergonomic.
>>80339106this look greatI have bobagums on the way but I'm wondering if he will do a thocky version of his linears like the U4T is to the bobas
>>80340342the gmmk pro is cheap for what it is anonyou won't find a lookalike for cheaper

anyone ready for some fucking ikki68s tonight
Do I really need to commit to building a qmk dev environment in order to set stuff like autoshift? Why doesn't the configurator just do that itself?
what are the cutest or coolest thematic keycaps?
>>80345110Madoka Magica ones
>>80345110Wise wolf is my current favorite. I am becoming consumer because of it.
>>80345007I feel your pain. I was using the configurator until I wanted to enable mouse keys and NKRO. Still not sure why either are even off by default.
>>80345817this layout is terrible. why are there 6 shift keys?
>>80345885It's no layout, those are keycaps available
Are ortho keyboards a meme?
>>80346247I think there are a lot of good things about them, but I'm not into 40%s and smaller. I like the rows lining up, and shrinking the bigger keys. A normal keyboard's spacebar just seems stupid now. You could fit so many keys in the same spot. At the least a split spacebar should be more common so you can put backspace on one side.
are the ducky one 2 switches soldered?
>>80346593There’s no hotswap Ducky AFAIK
>>80346593yes

>>80343890I’ve got this keyboard in gray, I don’t know if that means it’s got a different clone alps switches in it. I find the keyboard generally unremarkable except for it’s Bluetooth capability.
>>80346834I have a columnar stagger split that is basically 60%. There are probably full on ortho 60%s also. I can't remember how many keys the nyquist has, but it might be one.
>>80342936Laaaaame. This is the ONE TRUE leftie layout.

>>80347904They're pretty nice and fun. I especially like having thumb keys. It might make getting keycaps more annoying. My keys are all 1U and I just got a bunch of blanks.
>>80345110I own this set, the typeface is fucking horrendous and the text on the win key is fuckedstill the cheapest dsa set out there tho at $20

Heya. I type quite a lot, mostly emails but also some material for the company. I'm looking for something quiet, high quality, and wireless. Hoping to spend between 50-100 USD.I found this to be pretty enticing https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k2-wireless-mechanical-keyboardWhat does /g/ think?

If you get a Keychron get a hot swap model so you can switch out the terrible gaterons for something down the road. I kinda bought mine to turn into a frankeboard.
Relatively new to the mech scene lads, and I want to build a custom board for my friend's birthday in June. I figure that'll be enough time. Here's what I'm thinking:>Keychron K2/K6 as the base (hot swap model)>Cherry clears as switches>Some kind of keycapsWhere can I find high quality custom PBT keycaps? >>80350858>He's requesting crimson, red and goldGMK Samurai has those colors, get a PBT knock-off from Ali
>>80351009Funny you mention that. I literally just pulled the trigger on that exact set.
>>80350781Noice. Paid extra for the hotswap. Thanks anon!
What precisely is a "floating typist?"I came across this term dealing with a con on gateron -- that floating typists may not like this switch in brown.Anyone know exactly what a floating typist is? Does it mean when you don't press down all the way?
>>80351242Pianist style?
>>80351354Some guy who prefers to not rest their wrist. Pretty odd if you ask me
