I don't anticipate ever giving them up, or at least not for a very, very long time and there are major changes. Desktops are at the moment the best value, especially if you do any sort of high powered shit on your PC - gaming, streaming, creative shit if varying types and CAD, scientific work. Desktops let you easily expand and are fully modular if you build your own. Laptops are not. They're more expensive and you're not likely to be able to buy a new mobo/CPU kit for the same chassis if you like its display or form factor etc. There's also the issue of cooling and whatnot. Don't get me wrong there is a use for laptops/tablets etc... but its not to replace a fucking desktop. Mobile devices are a totally different world, in terms of hardware (ie ARM chips vs x86-64 ) but also power, connectivity, and openness If all you need to do is use a browser to fuck around online, then I suppose you can get away with a laptop, tablet, or mobile device but if you have any more demanding needs and/or want more control over your hardware and a better value, desktops are still the way to go and will likely remain that way. I'd love it if phones were built using universal hardware standards of interoperability, could be modular and upgraded, and run any OS well supported - but that's not happening any time soon.

Years ago. I have a desktop for gaming, a Thinkpad for schoolwork, a Macbook Pro for just bullshitting around on, an iPad for streaming or podcasts while cooking or cleaning. But I can afford them all and want to fuck around with them all so thats why I have them.

When I got my first job.Powerful laptop is enough for daily tasks if there is good setup with second monitor and other utilities. I still use desktop because of price, comfy and I have the needed space for it
