Alright /g/, it's game time.Give me a single reason to use GNU/Linux over Mac OS X. Consider the following.-> You're paying $0.00 for what is essentially a hybrid kernel, the BSD userland (and everything that comes with it), and the Apple UI. Paying nothing for a very polished and stable certified-Unix system seems reasonable, considering how well Apple seems to integrate everything in their OS.-> You're not really missing out on anything in Mac that you wouldn't in GNU/Linux. You've got the same version control software, compilers, a packaging system, and the same IDE's as GNU/Linux if you develop that way. Much of the underlying structure of OS X is rooted in Darwin, which is basically BSD, meaning that it's free and open source. You can literally look at the source inside the OS.-> Let's also consider the proprietary side of things. Sometimes, the open source drivers and plugins the community has can be... a little lackluster. You have every streaming service available, the Microsoft suite of productivity software, and a whole host of other software available through the Mac App store, a great way of unifying all the programs available for OS X and providing them to the user.-> The UI is very well done and responsive, and anything that it really wanted to hide from the user, can be found if they really wanted to. If you're someone who can't live without all the rice, it's not like you can't slap a tiling wm on it, make some modifications, and call it a day if you're so inclined. Once again, it's the best of both worlds.-> "But Anon," you spurt out through your cheeto drooling mouth, "What about all the 'excellent' command-line tools that Linux has?" There's nothing that isn't already on OSX that you can't just compile anyway, since you were already going to do that on Linux. So tell me /g/, what's the point, or even the benefit of using an often unstable, often untested OS made mostly by graduate students and old fogeys who bang on bongos?
>using botnet OS
I'm a Mac user as well. When will /g/ get an Apple general
>>79682362you can change literally everything you want about the os, even the init system or the display manager, you can boot to pure tty, also it doesnt bypass your vpn
i need a snapchat hacker
>>79682531fuck I didn't mean this how do I delete
>>79682459I think there's one that pops up every now and then, I bet if you searched the archive you could just copy the OP text and post your own thread.

>>79682362One thing I'll say in Linux's defence is that I wouldn't have had to type this in to get some privacy back:>defaults write com.apple.AdLib "allowApplePersonalizedAdvertising" '0'>defaults write com.apple.AdLib "allowIdentifierForAdvertising" '0'
>>79682679You dont even need to type that. Just check off the advertising stuff in the privacy tab in system preferences
>>79682697I only discovered it when I was looking through the output of 'defaults read', though. I didn't even know it was a thing before that. Makes me wonder what else hasn't told me about.
>>79682362>"That'll be 3 grand for the shiny logo"
>packaging systemWhat? The joke called Homebrew?
>>79682459There’s no apple general as it’d spell out fag. Applefags know the truth
>>79682459True. You faggots should get a general so we don't have a dozen threads everyday on relentless Apple shilling.
>>79682362>You're paying $0.00 for what is essentially a hybrid kernel, the BSD userland (and everything that comes with it), and the Apple UI. Paying nothing for a very polished and stable certified-Unix system seems reasonableIsn't the cheapest license $700?
>>79682865 hides a lot of the complexity and beauty of UNIX inside the OS, but they still let you access it if you want to and you know how. You should explore it some time.
>>79682924>>79682929I was considering it, but I know it'll just be flooded by retards like you spamming "haha fruit company bad" nonstop and destroying any actual conversation that could happen.
>>79682362>>79682531>>79682552Kill yourself normie faggot.
>>79682975Do it, if you keep making them eventually people will stop spamming. You can only beat a dead horse so much.

Apple is pozzed shit. After the parler ban there's not shit you can tell me about Apple
>>79683249>App Store for years has been booting devs left and right for breaking rules>Random boomer decides to break them>Gets booted from App Store>Noooooo not the HECKIN speecherinos!
>>79683267You will never ever be a woman, and fuck Apple and their arbitrary and selectively enforced rules. They won't get another dime out of me period.
>>79682362If you're gonna pay to give your data to a big company anyways at least choose the one that lets you run hentai games natively

>>79682459the most ironic thing is that people pretend that a macos general shouldn't exist meanwhile we have a very popular windows general that these people have no problem with.
>>79683853I'd be fine if you could contain your spam inside a single general instead of constantly keeping 5+ advertisement threads up.
>>79683919why can't we have apple hardware threads when we constantly have dozens of intel/amd/nvidia hardware threads up? just filter them

No way in hell I'm getting an Apple computer. I burn through keyboards rapidly
>>79684110yeah, apple products aren't for kids who still eat at their computer and spill cum and soda all over their keyboards.
>>79682910install Nix
>>79682910thats why you use macports instead
Mac OS X is outdated.macOS requires specific hardware for which someone has to pay a premium.
>>79684422its good hardware though. for the keyboard, trackpad, screen, and (still bad but not as bad as other laptops I've owned) speakers, and size/weight, thats the kinda price you would expect.
>>79682910>implying nothing existed before HomebrewYou must be at least 18 to post
I keep my stuff long enough that apple drops support for laptops I'm still using.
>>79684422Just stop being poor.
>>79683267I think you mean>Boomer app complies with ToS>Gets booted for bad opticsI mean Parler is a shitty twitter clone but of all the apps to ban, this one would have been easier to just shadowban and let it die on the vine.
>>79682459It's called /fag/ and it shows up every so often. Check the archive sites

>>79682362It really comes down to trust. I don't trust Apple. They have a better track record than Google or Microsoft, but that's not saying much. It's also known that OSX has spyware at the OS level. Since I value my privacy, I've decided not to accept that. There's also the whole free software argument, but something tells me you don't care about being able to read/edit the source code of the programs you run.
