For general use 2TB would be better and while 660p will perform faster, you wouldn't really be able to tell the two apart. Assuming both go for the same price, go for Ultra 3D. Is it 2.5" version or m.2?

Theoretically, how long can one use an SSD, under the most ideal circumstances? Are they prone to aging, even if they lack moving parts? Or is it solely based around read/write cycles? Because I'm enticed by the idea of installing my OS to the SSD, while putting all my heavy files to a secondary HDD.I figured I'd keep any usage of the SSD to a minimum, and only move files to it if I need them in particular to be faster. However, I've also heard that all drives, regardless of make and model, can just fail on you randomly. So that has me worried, even if you keep up to check with S.M.A.R.T. status via tools like Crystaldisk. Any advice?
>>
>>79682262
Two, so long as your case is large enough to fit the cooler. What card are you looking at?
>>
>>79682259
Do you want to play new games? Yes.
>>
>>79682170
Given CPU processing requirements over the last several years, how long would I be able to coast on a 5900x before I'd have to upgrade? I don't do any real productivity stuff but I'd like to stretch out the CPU+Mobo for as long as possible, just upgrading the GPU in several years and maybe snatching up some high-end leftover DDR4 RAM when people rush to DDR5.
>>
>>79682284
Unless you're going to be writing say 100GB on an SSD every single day, you got nothing to worry about. Even a QLC 1TB drive will last you.
>>
>>79682321
A long time, but you should know that a 5900x isn't going to age much better than any other Zen 3 CPU. More cores doesn't really mean it will be future proofed.
>>
>>79682262
Just get one big enough so you can strap 2 120mm fans to it
>>
Oh wow. Just on the day I ordered parts for my build, the store I was buying from has made a deal for stuff I needed. Or well, not exactly, but it's still better to get cheaper stuff than to pay for worse stuff. So anyway. I now have a choice between getting ASRock B460M Steel Legend, ASUS PRIME B460M-A and GIGABYTE B460M DS3H. I can't choose other mobas sadly, since even with price cut, they are way too pricey for me. So. What do I get from those 3? I'm leaning to Gigabyte, but only because it's cheaper than other ones. Which one do I choose?
>>
>>79682321
I'm on a 5-year-old CPU. Some people are still using 10+ year-old CPUs. It depends entirely on what you want to do.
>>
Writing again to hopefully get a response in this thread

Putting a new build together but can not get it to post. I can access BIOS when I have no m.2 devices installed. But as soon as I install either a blank m.2 drive, an old m.2 drive with OS already installed, or a windows boot USB key it will freeze on the Aorus splash screen. I cannot even access BIOS with any of those parts installed.
I am running updated BIOS for new zen3 CPUs. I have even sent the motherboard back to the store for them to troubleshoot under warranty claim and they say they experienced the same issue but did a BIOS update and now it was posting on their end.

Motherboard: Gigabyte B550i Aorus (running on f11p bios version)
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400 MHz CL14 (recycling old ram until I upgrade, known to be working)
GPU: 750ti (recycling old GPU until I upgrade)
PSU: Corsair SF750

I've tried newer RAM Corsair dominator, single and dual sticks in different slots. I've tried an old PSU that's known to be working.

I feel like it must be something to do with the compatibility with the new zen3 CPUs and b550 boards but they've done a bios update and I can get into bios with no storage devices inserted and it reads the CPU correctly and bios version looks to have been updated.
>>
>>79682391
I wouldn't get Gigabyte, it doesn't even have a simple heatsink on the VRMs.
>>
>>79682418
I see. Which one from the other twos then? Assrock?
>>
>>79682259
I have a 670, still. I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't upgraded in 9 years. But it's time, some time this year.
>>
10100f or 10400f for 1080? 10100f costs 89 eur and 10400f 163 eur. Is 10400f really that much better?
>>
>>79682452
Which GPU will you be pairing with it?
>>
>>79682416
I've had freezes before, not exactly in BIOS or booting phase, but occasionally Windows would just freeze. I think I narrowed it down to either my RAM or an overclocked CPU, or a combination of both. I throttled my RAM frequency way down and didn't overclock and never had the same problem. Might not be relevant to your case at all, might help. I know how frustrating it can be.
>>
>>79682425
Asrock would be my vote. They're pretty good on the budget side of things. Shitton of fan headers as well.
>>
>>79682486
Oh, so no need to buy fan splitter like I wanted to before, right? That's really nice
>>
>>79682473
Middling stuff like rx580 8gb, something similar when 580 ages in 4 years or so.
>>
>>79682502
Probably a 10100F then. Though if 75 euro isn't a big deal for you, the 10400F will give you a smoother experience, and it will provide benefits in non-gaming use cases as well.
>>
>>79682499
Fan splitter? You mean fan hub I guess. That is only needed for the really cheap mobos that usually have one header to cut costs. Depending on total and what you want it can be a good deal.
>>
>>79682532
Yeah, fan hub. I needed it before I realized there was this deal, so now I guess I'm saved from having to order it.
>>
is this the right thread for advice or suggestion a on gaming laptop ?
i just need to run cs go at 150 + fps and a 120 or 144hz display
>>
>>79682524
>a smoother experience
How so? It will only be used as a gaming pc but I'm thinking 10400f will last a lot longer than 10100f. I will try emulating switch and maybe ps3. Mostly switch for some jrpgs like xeno.
>>
>>79682425
Of the two Assrock offers better specs but Asus will work just fine, up to how much money you'd like to spend on it. What CPU do you want to pair with it?
>>79682502
10400f offers two extra cores so it's the least I'd try to aim, but 10100f will be alright for an extreme budget system too.
>>79682416
I'd RMA it, probably a faulty m.2 slot you got there. Have you tried the both m.2 slots by the way? The board has one on the front under the heatsink and one on the bacl.
>>
>>79682566
More threads and higher clock speeds will mean better frame pacing and less stuttering. I will warn you that neither CPU is going to be great at emulating PS3 games.
>>
>>79682559
Steel legend is a nice mobo. If it's close to price to a z490 get z490 though I doubt that. H410 and fan hub iz the pooorfag option but still valid if it costs 1/3rd less or more than steel legend.

>>
>>79682589
Assrock is just 1 dollar more expensive than asus, so I'm getting that. I'm pairing it with 10400f. Funnily enough, the price cut is only if you order a bundle with Intel CPU, so it's a huge plus for me.

Thank you, this is the most compassion I've ever received on this site. I think you're right though that they do sound like different issues. Definitely haven't OC anything at this stage and tried swapping out for different ram.

It might be your SSD, but having anything installed also causes freezing as well you say. Just send that thing back again and good luck with the whole process. Having a friend whom you can swap parts with to pinpoint the faulty part might help too but you'd have done it by now I'm sure.
>>79682770
By looking at that 165x250 photo of it, I can say for that it has a mesh front. And yes it's a very decent budget oriented case.

>>
>>79682827
oh shit yeah I'd much rather pay $100 for a dongle. I'm gonna do a dual system(one if the main reasons I wanna go to one monitor, high refresh kvm is very expensive) so when I do actually replace the 5700xt in 2 or so years I'll be able to use the dongle on the other machine. I wanna do dual system Linux/windows so I can Vidya with no compromise in the form of vm or dual boot.
Buying a new card is like lighting money on fire given mine is able to do my games at 120hz 4k
>>
>>79682861
Go for a 650 min but better to get a 750 so you have headroom for future upgrades. A psu can last you a long time dont skimp out on it. Also a sn550 is a great budget nvme ssd.

>>
>>79682944
Nope. At least they exist though, which is more than you can say about the 3300x.
>>
>>79682770
I have the 330x. It has mesh and a grille in the chassis which I cut because it was useless. Depends on price since I doubt the fans are good.
It is a decent case for the price. Can't remove the hdd cage though. It has space for a huge full size full wired psu though. It's also pregnant so you can easily manage cables in the backside of the mobo. I got 330x for 32 euros. You can't remove the top of the case either. The back pci expansio slots need to be broken and can't be put back.
Top filter is magnetic and bottom is simply a perforated sheet of metal. Get the job done and easy to vacuum though.
The front panel is connected with wires to the case so pay attention when taking off for cleaning.
>>
>>79682944
Why would you when 10100 is cheaper and better?
>>
>>79682284
I have a 250GB Samsung 850 Evo that I've been using for my OS for almost 7 years. The disk's software reports that 30TB have been written on the disk so far. That's 120 times its size and it's still working well, so I'd say they're pretty durable in the long run.
>>
>>79682970
It's 55 bucks for me, so a good price for where I live.

The case can also fit 165mm coolers even though the official site says otherwise.

Sup /pcbg/. I'm aiming to put together a small and quiet MicroATX vidya/audio production build. I wanted to put a build together last year and missed out, but I've updated it since I managed to get a 5800x and a 3070 on backorder.

All feedback welcome, particularly looking for feedback on power supply and cooling. I'm flip-flopping between the Kraken or going with the air cooler. I've heard the Kraken IRL and it's low noise is acceptable to me, but I care about both noise and long-term performance.

I was originally aiming for 144Hz@1440p. Any recs on monitors? Also what's the best way for me to control my temps/fans? I'm not to keen on using NZXT spyware.

So apparently this week is the week where used cards have finally started appearing for me and I have a few options: An Rx 570 for 111 USD, An Rx 580 for 164 USD (both 4GB), and a 1650 Super for 222 USD.

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE
CPU: Ryzen 3 3200g
Ram: G.Skill 2x8GB 3200MHz
PSU: Corsair TX650M

I'm guessing the 1650s isn't really an option considering it's significantly pricier. But for simple 1080p and (close to 60fps). Will the 570 be fine or should I consider the 580? Also I realise it may be a long shot with the shitty APU, but would streaming be at all a possibility with either of the RX cards, even if it would restrict it to streaming in low quality (as long as there are no frame drops)
>>
>>79684057
Why go for an APU at all if you plan to get a GPU?

You'll get slightly better performance (like 1%) but 3600mhz/cl16 is really the point of diminishing returns. The price increases exponentially while the gains are minimal past that point. You're better off spending the money elsewhere if the budget isn't infinite.

I have Vive Pro Eye w/ Wireless, haptics, and full body. I7-8700K overclocked to 5.2 GHz, 32 GB of RAM, MSI 1080 Ti. I'm getting like 18 FPS, probably because of all that added shit, and OBS streaming with NDI.

Hey guys, asking this here will be different than normal questions I guess. Last year when I received my stimulus check, and last year I started my triple GPU hashcat build.

When I received my stimulus check last year, I bought all the parts to get started. My GPU at the time were going to be 3x 1080 TI FE, I only bought 1 at the time since I wasn't in a hurry, and staying within 500 dollars used on Ebay. But I think I'll switch to RTX 3070, buy them one at a time whenever they're available.

With my build having 3 GPU, I went with Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow edition. I wanted to find a computer case I can space out my cards to have room for the GPU fan, instead of my GPU buttfucking each other.

But now I have been thinking about downsizing my build, and either sell Corsair case, or keep it and use it as home server with 30TB+ of storage, I don't know yet.

I completely forgot cases have vertical expansion slots, and it gave me an idea, I can put two gpu on the mobo, buy a pci-e extension cable and put my 3rd gpu on the vertical expansion slot, that way I can still have my triple gpu hashcat build and have it in a small case with good airflow, or I would think.

If I go the downsizing route, could I get a recommendation on a case under 100 USD similar to nzxt like pic related but possibly have a holes in the side panel instead of plexi or glass?

Seems like just moving the sliders around with no external reference wouldn't be a very good method of making your monitor color accurate. One of these days I might look into renting a calibration device just to see if the results are mind blowing and whether I need to buy one myself. Apparently monitors degrade over their lifespan and shit colours wildly, but we never notice because we're used to it.

Built a pc for my friend and was wondering if its smart to put fans under the gpu for exhaust (pic related) or if this will just strangle it. Case is the Lian-Li TU150
>>
>>79686975
further info: there is an intake fan in the front of the case and an exhaust fan at the back with a radiator for the aio (mini itx build)
>>
>>79686844
From looking at some pictures of your case, I don't think you could fit in a vertile GPU along with the other 2. What you could do is buy a PCIe riser cable, then find a creative solution for supporting your 3rd gpu with a custom support frame made out of wood or something.

You don't want to be fighting the airflow of the fan on the GPU. Instead, turn that fan around and make it an intake. This will help cool the GPU, which is what you really want anyway.
>>
>>79687041
As in, your monitor has no display signal?

>>
>>79687059
Yes and the LED on the motherboard too is off.
>>
>>79687050
I see I thought they exhausted the gpus hot air, thank you. Is it ok if there is only an inch between the gpu and the fan, I don't want to strangle it and restrict airflow, as counterintuitive as that sound considering I'm only adding fans its a very tight squeeze.
>>
>>79687012
I originally was going to buy a 4 gpu bitcoin open air case, but It was too long/wide to fit in my room, and thats why I went with more of a vertical based case, instead of horizontal.

The pic I provided was a possible case to use, instead of my current corsair 750D,

My motherboard isn't long enough for all of the expansion slots in my 750D, and my plan was to buy a extension pcie cable, for the 3rd gpu, stick it on the last to slots, and 3d print a brace or something to hold it up.

You're right though, after taking another look, gpu laying horizontally will be to wide to have one sitting vertically without there being conflict. Damn it. I appreciate the help, anon.

most calibration software (like the one built into windows) will present a scale of gray colors if you're not using a dedicated device - you can get reasonably close by eyeballing it, not a great solution of course if you're doing color-critical things

>Is it true the liquid is not conductive

Most AIOs use distilled water and some glychol to prevent algae growth. Distilled water is not very conductive, so it's unlikely to fry your PC immediately if a leak starts. You wouldn't want to leave the PC running while covered in DI water, though.
>>
>>79685796
yeah, they know their shit. they have some of teh best itx shit out there
>>
>>79687073
You would be strangling the GPU if the fan was an exhaust. As an intake it would be force feeding the GPU, which improves airflow.
>>
>>79687073
Not him but that hot air is rising and also rapidly dispersing from the GPU. Anon is right, intakes below will push cool air into the GPU and the GPU's cooling fans, while also providing more cool air to the case and other components. General rule of thumb is air intakes front and/or bottom, exhausts rear and/or top. Don't slump on exhaust fans either, getting that hot ambient air out of the case does wonders for component temps.

>>79687131

>>79687105

The 3060Ti is only 8 GB of RAM. My 1080 Ti from 3 years ago is 11 GB and I even use all that for RNN training.
How do they get away with it?
>>
>>79687159
No, there's no sort of seal failure detection. That being said as long as you buy a reputable AIO and do not spend your time beating your case/components around; they're damn reliable on that front. You're more likely to have the pump die than loose seal. Install it with some attention to detail, run it at 100% and you're going to be fine. You'll hear it if the seal were to fail, as the pump will start cavitating. That being said the damage is also done if it were to lose seal, regardless of an alarm.
>>
>>79687159
I don't about failsafes. It would be detectible for sure in 2 ways, though. 1 is noise. You would hear the pump motor and radiator fans spinning up for no reason as they run out of water, as well as some tinkling from the water itself. If you have a thermal monitor running, you would also see the temps going up dramatically.
>>
>>79687208

>GDDR5 vs. GDDR6
Not all memory is created equal. It's design to be a budget gaming card, targeting gamers who are playing in the 1080p-1440p range on newer titles. 8 GB of GDDR6 is sufficient for this task. 4K ultra players of new titles and people using the GPU for heavy number crunching are not the target consumer for that card. Pretty simple.

Yup I’m dumb. Wrong or no ram would result in not even fans spinning though?
>>
>>79688252
That's weird. I thought the ram would only run on its own freq. if what you installed are too high for it.
>>
>>79687221
1080 Ti, so 11 GB. It seems silly to go down in VRAM, even if it's faster.
It might be allocating it all, but I hit major performance drops when it's like 30 people. But I've even been dealing with like 20 FPS at 15 people. Could be CPU, but overclocking from 3.7 GHz to 5.2 GHz didn't help.
>>
>>79688297
I assumed ram would difficult to 3200mhz if 3600 was an overload anyways should have done more research damn. I thought the computer would still have led lights on or fans spinning even if ram is somehow wrong but I’m getting nothing. Still an issue of ram? I’ll start an rma
>>
>>79688252
someone was able to make it run
https://pcpartpicker.com/b/NVYH99
so its something else but for sure you can not run the ram at 3600 mhz cl19
>>
>>79688335
I’ve replaced the psu already still nothing
All parts are new except gpu and I inspected it looked lightly used
Tried multiple power outlets
I suppose I’ll return my mobo and if it wasn’t defective I’m at a loss
Building a pc was a fun experience I’m very certain everything was installed right. Next step is to assume the cpu is broken I suppose

Someone mentioned picrel as a hotbox above.

Is any case with an impermeable front doomed to being a heat trap in spite of the vertical intake strips along the side of the front face that they all tend to have? Has *anyone* designed a solid/mostly solid front case with good airflow?
Do they even get hot enough to throttle if you're not overclocking anyway?
>>
>>79688387
does the motherboard not turn on at all? have you tried flipping the switch on the back?
>>
>>79688488
I tried short circuiting it from the power pins with a screw driver. What is this method of switch flipping in the back?
>>
>>79686751
so is life in kike dunya.
>>
>>79688557
so basically the psu has a switch on the back and flip it you should hear some fans if its running
>>
>>79688603
Yes I got nothing even with the new one as well
>>
I finally managed to snag a R7 5800X, but all I have is a stock cooler for the 3600. Obviously that won't be enough for overclocking but is it safe to use in the meantime? Or will the 5800x run too hot?

So I'm really fucked right now with no idea of what to do, Iv'e tried fucking everything
Specs:
Intel i7 4770 4th gen
Gtx 970 msi
2x8 dr3
Xplus power sentey 725W
2 tb hdd
240 gb ssd

The thing is I've literally tried everithing possible but the shit doesn't start, I try to press the power button but it only moves the cooler of the motherboard for 1 second then stops, iv'e tried cleaning everything with compressed air, connecting and reconnecting all wires, taking out the motherboard battery but nothing.
I don't think it's the psu.
>>
>>79688453
>Do they even get hot enough to throttle if you're not overclocking anyway?

The worst ones do, but you will still get performance gains from having a high airflow. CPUs and GPUs currently boost their performance in accordance with temperature. So just being in a box that removes heat quickly in general lets them run faster.

I'm looking to upgrade my ancient GTX 970, and I'm genuinely torn between the 3060 and the 3060ti. I'm honestly wondering what the fuck NVidia is thinking with these two cards now. Seriously. The 3060 has 12GB or memory, but the more expensive 3060ti only has 6GB? Get the fuck out of here.

Never gonna make it brahs
>>
>>79688652
I wouldn't try it for long term use, but as a stop gap it should do. I've seen the graphs and heard the stories from people here. The 5800x runs hot. But the wrath stealth can also brute force things if it has to. It's likely your wraith stealth will be running loud with the 5800x.
>>
>>79688697
The 3060 is probably the one to go for. The 3060ti is already well overpriced. At least you still have a chance to get the 3060 on launch day for MSRP.
>>
>>79688717
Did that graph you saw mention any good recommendations for a cooler? The one I was planning to get is out of stock and my back up was an AIO that I'm nervous about, I've never done liquid cooling before.
>>
>>79688731
That's the way I'm leaning. I'm really starting to think they'll quietly discontinue the 3060ti since it really doesn't have a place anymore.
>>
>>79688620
i guess try to push in the 24 pin connector as hard as you can, if it aint turning on its the motherboard because technically you can still turn on a motherboard even without anything else installed. As long as its connected to a psu the motherboard will be powered on.
>>
>>79688657
Need more info. Is this a thing you just built? If so, are you running the correct bios on the mobo for your CPU? Are you booting into boot menu? If this is a daily driver pc that just died, try removing components one at a time while attempting to start the computer. Once you get to just the CPU, the boot drive and the ram, try different ram configurations.

Also try a different wall socket.
>>
>>79688048
wtf kind of piece of shit build is that? 1050 can't run jack shit 2020
get a 1660 at least
>>
>>79688738
NH-D15, Deepcool assassin 3, or Scythe fuma 2. I bought the deepcool myself because it was so much cheaper than the NH-D15 for the same performance. AIOs are fine, though. I recommend the arctic freezer line.

One little trick you can do in the meantime is to run an undervolt, which just became really easy on the latest bios for some mobos. People say it dropped their 5800x temps by 10c. Here's a video on how to do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfkrp25dpQ0
>>
>>79688787
If all you can get your hands on is a 1050 then you build with a 1050.
>>
How do i kniw if my cooler fits my CPU?
I have an old H100i that I used for my FX-8350. I recently bought a new motherboard and a 5900x, will the cooler fit? Ir is there a difference in the socket type or what not
>>
Are older CPUs like the second Gen i5 still worth buying these days?
>>
>>79688804
If I'm going to undervolt I might as well just wait anyway, undervolting a 5800X is going to give me the same performance as my current 3600. I'll look into the Deepcool though. Does it have much headroom for overclocking without being super loud?
>>
>>79688813
Fuck no. Not even as a web browsing machine.
>>
>>79688811
It won't fit. The cooler mounts on those two sockets are not compatible.
>>
>>79688744
Pushed it in very hard still nothing when the flip is flipped

>Does it have much headroom for overclocking without being super loud?

Yeah. Mine is really quiet even under load. I can't hear it over the case fans.

Also you seem to not understand that undervolting increases performance. As long as the CPU is still at a stable voltage, lower power draw results in higher frequencies.
>>
>>79688903
I stopped watching the video when he said it was 5 series MOBO's only, I have a B450. I updated my BIOS so that I could use the 5800x but it's still a 450. At this point I'm considering just canceling it, setting up an AIO and stuff seems like more trouble than it's worth. I'm not sure it'll even give me that much of a performance boost in the games I'm interested in anyway.

>R5 3600
>16GB 3200 Mhz DDR4
>RTX 3060 Ti
>>
>>79688855
are you sure to connected the power switch and stuff correctly?
>>
>>79688928
The comments of the video said that some 400 series mobos are getting the PBO2 update as well, you'd have to check on your mobo website whether it's the case for your specific board.

Also what resolution? Zen 3 will give you a big boost at 1080p. Not so much at 1440p. If you only play games, the 5600x is all you need, too.
>>
what tools do you need to build a pc?
>>
>>79688963
It's 1440p. Honestly I only grabbed the 5800X because I figured it would make Cyberpunk and Cold War run better at 1400p. I have an B450 AORUS PRO WIFI-CF.
>>
>>79688990
One or two Philips head screwdrivers.
That's genuinely it.
>>
>>79688990
get a magnetic screwdriver, it'll save you alot of headaches
>>
>>79688996
I'm not sure if that mobo has it. The 5800x is a good CPU, but probably not necessary. Setting up an AIO is also easier than setting up a big air cooler. You just screw the radiator to the mounting point in your case and then screw coldplate on the CPU.
>>
>>79689041
I'll just cancel it and save myself the $400 then, I need to stop falling for trends. I think maybe I obsessed over ordering this because it's so hard to find and I thought it'd actually do me some good.
>>
>>79689036
>putting a magnet near electric components

>>
>>79689081
You've made the right choice, in my opinion. The 3600 is still good.

Hey remember me with a broken 6600k earlier? I just bought a 3700x and holy shit, you don't need to reformat your hard drive for a mobo swap!
I'm fucking ecstatic right now.
>>
>>79689109
Is that really going to harm the components? I have a screwdriver with magnetic bits. Can I not use that to build my pc safely now?
>>
>>79689272
by cant i mean it doesnt run anything at a playable level.
i need it to be a traditional form factor like atx matx itx
>>

>>
>>79689223
You need motherboard power and CPU power connected. That's all you need, but other components don't hurt, nor help. You can do it first thing or after you've finished the build.
>>
>>79682351
I'm not concerned about cores, the L3 cache is the reason the 5900x is superior
