I have in my possession an mITX (b550) board and a PCIe Gen3 M2 NVMe SSD.

I'm planning on getting an NZXT H1 to put it in. The mobo has two M2 slots, one PCIe Gen4 on the front with active cooling & heatsink, one PCIe Gen3 on the back. If I go for the H1, there is space to include the second drive, but not a heatsink, and it'll be pushed right up against the back of my GPU.

Could I get away with buying a Gen4 drive to put on the front (taking advantage of the PCIe gen4 slot) and sticking the current Gen3 drive on the back next to the GPU, or will that run too hot without a heatsink?

Realistically is there much difference between a PCI Gen3 and Gen4 NVMe SSD?
>>
>>78821440
gen3 drive doesn't need a heatsink, but gen4 will

They wouldn't put the M.2 slot in that location if it wasn't safe.
>Realistically is there much difference between a PCI Gen3 and Gen4 NVMe SSD?
In data transfer, yes. In general use or gaming, no.
>>
>>78821459
>>78821460
I'm slightly worried that the layout of the H1 case is unusual, in that the GPU is attached via a riser cable so it sits right underneath the motherboard where the second M2 slot is. A "normal" case layout wouldn't have it there so it'd presumably have better airflow on the rear drive.

Would gaming or watching high bitrate video risk damaging the drive if airflow was minimal and there was a GPU emitting heat right next to it?
>>
>>78821507
I really don't know, anon. You'd have to find someone who has built a rig in that exact configuration.

Okay well that is going to eat away at your budget pretty considerably then. My initial idea is a Ryzen 5800x + B550 motherboard, RTX 3070 (or 6800 XT, whichever you can find), 32 GB of RAM, 750W PSU, 1440p144 monitor, NVME SSD. Looks alright. If you can find a 3600 for $200, save yourself the 40 bucks. The cooler is overkill for that CPU. You could get away with something much cheaper. Motherboard is fine, but you could save a few bucks by picking one without built in wifi, assuming you don't need it. The storage ratio you have there is pretty weird, but you do you. I'd pick the P500A over the Enthoo. 650W is more than sufficient for that build, no need for 750.

I need help.

I recently bought a Dell S2721DGF 165hz 1440p monitor. After I plugged her in I downloaded some dell driver package from dells website with some color profile. Now every time I start up my computer it will max out at 120hz not 165hz. I think it has something to do with the color format being in YCbCr422 instead of RGB. It will let me switch to 165hz after using monitor buttons to change "AMD FreeSync Premium Pro from ON to OFF. But when I turn my computer off and back on it keeps reverting and I have to fuck with it. How do I fix my monitor/nvidia/windows display settings to keep my monitor in 165hz and stop it from reverting to 120?

Last gen AMD home server build

Just going to use this to run web applications in docker containers, and related services (ie. db, nginx, elasticsearch).

Key thing is 3700X + decent timing 3200mhz ddr4, everything else is generally as low cost as I could get, except gold PSU

Prices in AUD, planning to use for 3-4 years

There's not much benefit to liquid cooling cpu for server use right?

What does that even mean? I read that going forward, they aren't focusing on crossfire or SLI for GPUs, but theres no real reason that it wouldn't work for an older card that already supported it.

Are you just going to ignore the ongoing pandemic, how there's a shortage of GDDR6X (Micron makes it for Nvidia), how AMD stupidly overburdened a single chip manufacturer across three different market segments (both next gen consoles, CPU and GPU)? This is the perfect storm to ruin a supply chain.

>>

>>
>>78823675
Most monitor sizes have a comparable pixel density between 1080p and 1440p. It's only worth it if you're at 27 inches or lower.
>>
>>78823675
You should notice a reduction in aliasing with AA off. I did right away. While 4k makes it where you don't need AA at all, 1440p makes the shimmering less noticeable. Most games offer shitty FXAA which makes everything a blurry mess and MSAA is a resource hog.

Dual rank is a nearly meaningless improvement and chasing it will cost a ridiculous amount of money for invisible gains. 4 sticks can be up to 10% improvement in some applications regardless of single or dual rank. Your best price/performance ratio right now is going to be 4 sticks of 8GB DDR 3600MHz CL16. Once you install them go into bios and enable the profile, then play with stability until you're as close to 3800MHz (usually gonna be 3733) as you can get while keeping these timings: CL16-18-18-38-1. Keep the infinity fabric 1:1.
>>
>>78823907
You should have made it a 3600/3080 combo. The frames would have been much higher, and you would have had a great upgrade path in the future for your CPU.

So last week I got a 550 board and a 5600x, set everything up, fresh installed windows, and it was fine. Tested a dozen or so games, everything worked, the only anomaly was the board wouldn't post above 3000mhz ram.
Played AC Valhalla for the night, ran fine, played all next day, it crashed, then crashed again, then two more times within a few hours. Then it crashed twice consecutively. Taking Discord and Firefox with it. Then it started bluescreening.
Restoring stock ram clock didn't fix it, switching ram didn't fix it, fresh windows didn't fix it, and in fact would barely install half the time. And trying a different drive didn't fix it.
I switched my 450 and 2600 back, reinstalled. And everything worked fine.
I assumed it was a fucked board, and submitted for a return.
Then Asrock released their 450 bios for 5000, so I updated my board, ran it for a night, no crashes. Next day I install the 5600x.
Bluescreens upon booting Windows.
Did I really get a fucking dead CPU on launch?

Given all the troubleshooting you've done it certainly seems to be the case. I would have said it was the board, as they have higher failure rates, but seeing as you swapped that as well it's got to be the CPU. Try it again with the replacement B550 board and RMA that shit if the problems persist. Dead CPUs are rare, for sure, but that doesn't mean it never happens.

No card has dropped, if anything I'm positive 2060S and 2070S prices increased in Europe.
I just checked, 2070S is on shortage and it's averaging 650€.
2060 Super ON SALE is 390€, otherwise 500€.

Oh, btw 390€ for the 6gb model.

How about this one for 820 euros?

Got a budget of roughly 650 eurocoins to make a pc, I just need some advice for the mobo, here's the parts I got so far that allow me to stay JUST ABOUT within the budget given to me
>ryzen 5 2600x
>650w
>gtx 1650 4gb
>bx500 ssd for OS
>seagate 2tb for storage
>2 corsair sticks of 8gb ram @3000mhz

Storage is very, very little, psu is cheap, it's a base 2060 so overall it's fairly overpriced.
If I were to guess, that's an overpriced prebuilt he bought for a retarded premium and expects to make a lot of his money back.

Any cooler that can seriously beat a Thermalright ultra 120 extreme for a 8600k? My case won't fit any aio bigger than 240mm.

Doesn't really seem worth it if above is true.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's a great sized case with good cable management and a nice aesthetic.
Some people just don't like the geometric look, so they're super autistic about it and call it shit.

Looking for a case for a future ITX board build,

Requirements
- No sandwich design
- Tempered glass
- Large GPU allowance, (AIB RX 6800 XT)
- Allow for cooling expansion into a 240 AIO (top mount preferably)

Currently NZXT H210i is closest to what I am chasing except that the GPU clearance over PSU shroud is too limiting for today's thicker cards, otherwise it would be perfect.
>>
>>78826954
I actually use CPU-Z, I just recommend Speccy to the type of people that don't even know what hardware they have nor software they need to check. Temperature monitoring and any other in depth bullshit is wasted on them and Speccy has the best layout for quickly determining specs without them getting confused.

What is the maximum one should pay for the Ryzen 7 5800X? A local store has it for 555€ and the urge to consoom is strong, but this price has some heavy rubbing of conspiring hands attached to it because I know for sure that the price of this CPU (100-100000063WOF) should be 390€ excluding taxes and here we have 22% or so, therefore the price should be 480€ tops.
>>
>>78827263
Piriform is openly jewish, hwinfo is a rip off existing software that relies on an army of shills, donations, and compromised security to turn a profit.

Hopefully you're getting paid for this shilling and you don't unironically do it for free.

I feel that my 2600 and Vega 56 are aging pretty fast atm so I would like to sell for some sweet shekels and upgrade now around blackfriday before the usedmarked catches up to this developement and prices drop. Sadly hardware prices (and stocks) are very (!) wacky where I live, so these are my current options: i5-10600K at $250, R7 3700X at $300, the i7-10700KF at $380 or the new 5600X at $360 (if it were in stock). Note that I'm going to upgrade my mobo regardless of choice since I'm still on a first gen B350m and would like some more modern features, also a lot of nice B450 AMD or Z490 Intel boards are on sale right now.

Just looking to do some comfy high/ultra settings 1080p 144hz gaming for the next 3 years. Any ideas my fellow fa/g/s?
