How is displayport not consumer grade?

Why do many monitor makers put the ports on the very back of the monitor?
What if we want to mount it on the wall?

And why is it so hard to get a 27 inch 120 or 144 hz IPS 4K monitor?
>>
>>78810067
Because that is where the PCB is.

Every gaming monitor in the past 5 years has DP as the primary input. Gaming graphics cards have 2 DP outputs and 1 HDMI. You are stupid.

Anyone else noticed that software is abandoning subpixel rendering? Half the programs out there including large parts of Windows 10 UI don't use it anymore. To me it seems like an obvious step back.
>>
>>78809310
No point paying displayport royalties when HDMI will do the job.
>>
>>78810332
The idea is that all new screens will be 4k, and unless you're quite close to such a screen you actually don't need cleartype and other such crutches.
>>
>>78810286
You could probably go a couple of years if you kept brightness reasonably low. You can check rting's test. They did 200 nits which is way too much for desktop use. If you went out of your way with avoiding static ui elements you could go a lot longer. If it was just for media I wouldn't worry at all.
>>78810332
No. I don't even know what you're talking about and don't use w10. Similar to truetype fuckery but for UI? Got a more specific example?

how is brightness, aren't most OLED TV's very restrictive with their total brightness output to reduce burn-in? i remember one of them would constantly clamp the brightness if the screen as a whole got too bright and you can't turn that off.

More than fine. The 48" cx will do about 150 cd/m2 on a full white field. So as long as you stay below that you will have no issues. More than you would want unless the sun is shining directly at the screen, in which case you're a fucking retard.

Yeah go check an oled tv in a tv shop. You can easily pick out what tv's are oled or lcd by glancing at the screens, the quality difference is huge.

Imo 1200-1500 is too much for a monitor though.

LG OLED TVs use full WRGB, wtf are you talking about. It's literally RGB+W, with 4 subpixels per pixel

Do you live in 2013? DisplayPort has been gayming gear for a while, anon.
>>
>>78809310
You want it to cost $1000 more?

90% of the reason LG can push this thing out at it's current price is because is doesn't have DP
DP may be "royalty free" but that doesn't save you from the increased part cost over the more mass produced HDMI
>>
>>78814770
100% of the time theres chrome/windows static ui elements on the screen
games have fixed ui elements
all pc use results in monitor degradation
Like look at xbox/ps5 UI's and the lengths they go to avoid burn in
>>
>>78814389
Depends on what you mean. They can all technically do DCI-P3 (although you probably won't find a consumer IPS that does). VA sucks so much for viewing angles that no one uses them professionally. Even if you sit directly in front of it you can't avoid viewing angle related problems.
Anything more than P3 is a bit of a meme. I don't know how good HDR support is on PC anyway, so anything more than sRGB may even be a meme depending on usage.
But yes, OLED is fine. Better than VA.

Contrast ratio. Which drops from native 6000:1 to 4000:1, which is still way better than the 3000:1 garbage on monitors.

Could be complete internet bullshit but I remember reading that the dimming is because of power draw that differs on what colors are displayed. Yellow is the worst and if the panel tried to display it fullscreen full brightness it would draw more than a kilowatt from the psu.

Yes and? Unless you want to burn your retinas you don't want to be looking at something that bright. The only real purpose of that kind of brightness is to combat direct sunlight, and these aren't phones. And even then, how often are you looking at an almost fully white screen?

If you didn't buy a bargain-bin 768p monitor, you would notice that most of the monitors on the market would have VESA mounting holes and the ports would be pointing straight down instead of sticking out at a 90 degree angle to the panel, making them wall-mountable.

HDMI has never been used for gaymen. Up until about a week ago you couldn't even use HDMI for most gaymen features and it's still not able to deliver 4k 144 or higher.
>>
>>78821906
>And even then, how often are you looking at an almost fully white screen?
Pretty often, a lot of websites and programs use color schemes that are quite close to the classic "black on white", so with PC usage you can certainly expect to have a lot of white on the screen.

4K 27" monitors are common and have higher DPI than 1440p 24".
