Thinking of getting a Ryzen processor (and a new mobo to be compatible with it) for Christmas, and a new graphics card + 2TB SSD for my game library storage. Trying to figure out which processor is best for maximum single-thread performance, and which graphics card would pair best with said processor.

Caved and went with the 2060 option plus a new monitor instead of upgrading the whole system. Will coast on this for at least 2 more years before doing a full system build. One weird thing is that I found a problem with one of my memory sticks that was causing crashing in games, ran memtest and found I had one that was faulty. First time that's ever happened to me

But it can detect and identify a VGA monitor running through a chink converter cable?

Been trying to upgrade to an i7 3770 or a ryzen 5 if i can manage to get a good deal but literally no luck so far. 3770's are extremely rare here, most common is the K version which goes for retarded amounts of money. Stuttering in modern games is really starting to get on my nerves.

I know about those xeons, was eyeing e3-1270 v2 for a while but didn't buy it because i was hoping to find something locally. It seems like the prices for it have come down quite a bit so maybe. But i think i would rather save the money at this point and get a ryzen. It's going to be like a 250-300€ investment but probably worth it in the long run because even 4/8 isn't completely butter smooth in some of these newer games. I just picked a wrong time to actually want an upgrade, no stock for 5xxx series so people aren't selling their old shit.

you are right but im not your typical zoomer gaymer. last game i used to play a lot was world of tanks avg 100 FPS (with a lot of shit deactivated for minmaxing purposes like explotions, grass and some other shit that literally impares the players vision on what its going on, so even if i had a NASA tier pc id have those exact same settings anyways)
the newest game i play is risk of rain 2. medium-lowe settings. more than 50 fps easy for sure but in long runs (+3 hours) starts to gg, like most of pcs. too much shit on screen

do you guys think that there is a possibility that a 650W PSU and a 3600 will bottleneck a 3060?

>>
>>78800756
650W PSU is enough for a 2080?
>>
>>78800770
We are talking about 3060 which is 60-class card. 650w has always been more than enough for a 60-class card.
>>
>>78800231
up until 3 weeks ago I still had a 970 and literally never experienced problems with the VRAM, even in games like RE2 which the settings menu claimed took over 4GB
>>
>>78800770
3060 is rated at 180watts

I run a 2070S (225) +3600 no issues on a 650watt gold. The PSU fan only comes on if I'm converting a Blue ray on the CPU -while- folding proteins on the GPU.

Playing any sort of game the PSU fan never even spins.

Even running furmark + p95 the PSU fan is only on about 50% of the time, at its lowest speed cycling between on/off in about 3 minute intervals.
>>
>>78800790
>>78800880
that's fucking great news, because the system isn't even a year old and i really have no intentions of upgrading anything else besides the GPU somewhere next year and keep it like that for the next console generation hoping for 1440p/144hz, thanks.

I plan to keep this system a fairly long time.

I ran an fx8350 Oced + Quadro fx 4600 for 4 or 5 years, and then went to an rx580. It all ran off a 650 or 750 no issues for almost 7 years.

Then I moved it (and the PSU and RX580) to my wifes desktop, and she still uses the thing for WoW and dragon Age.

Still have the quadro too.
>>
>>78800642
20-30 fps is fine if it's consistent, that's why console fags at the end don't really care. It becomes a massive problem when stuttering comes into play.

>>
>>78802719
"25c" idle seems high for vishera. How overclocked is that thing?

these things had no actual temp probe and just looked up a temp from a current and voltage + load table.

at 4.8ghz @ 1.32x volts mine was around "8c" on the desktop, and I just ran a hyper 212. Loved that chip honestly. Only upgraded my stuff, to be able to "give" my wife a desktop PC to play games on.
>>
>>78802776
I normally do get the 7C idle temp with the cool n quiet on, I have too much crap open and playing a video, but this thing's cool as a cucumber with this big ass Hyper T4 cooler that is dusted every year.
>>
>>78802802
The longevity you can get out of that thing is honestly amazing. For day to day tasks and even most games I cant really tell much of a difference compared to my 3600.

Internet is the same, cad ironically is the same because autoshit stuff seems to have issues using more than one thread for geometry updates. Only compiling software and converting movies is notably faster (but in these cases its like HALF the time to complete)

Keep it alive for all us FX bro's
>>
>>
>>78802888
The FX-8000 still have tons of life left as daily use systems, I came from a Q6600 5 years ago when I put this together, and even that old system would still be fine as a daily use today, I just wanted a custom built system that could overclock a little and took ATX parts.

no, it should be fine. 3060 should be around a 2070 super to a 2080 super tier card. nothing from zen 2 was a bottleneck for that tier. a 3600x with a 2080 benched nearly the same as a 9900k. in terms of psu, a 650 watt should be enough but i would aim for a 750 watt. at most its like $20 more but that 100 watt extra headroom is nice to have. and no, its not a "waste" if you don't use it.

currently lurking to buy 32GB of ram with a new case
I'm also planning to change my gigatrash aorus pro with anything else that does not randomly disconnect usb devices when pci4 is in use and also with an intel nic
I want to upgrade to pci4 storage but speed are disappointing and far from the specs so I'm not sure if I should wait for 7000/6500 devices to hit the market maybe in S1 2021
I'm waiting on rtx 30 refresh in Q1 2021 if that ever happen, current gen rtx and rdna are awful value, money is not a problem but I hate the feels of being scammed, same reason I'm sending this trash motherboard back this week

CPU: 7700HQ
GPU: 1060 6GB
Memory: 16GB 2400MHZ
Storage1: 240GB Adata SX8200 NVMe SSD
Storage2: 1TB slowass 5400RPM HDD
Display: 17.3" FHD

I'm poor, don't care about the latest and greatest. Still works fine and I picked it up cheap maybe 8-10 months ago

Why would it die? Repaste it and OC the living shit out of it if you need more performance. Adding cheap AIO 120mm watercooler to my old 7870XT with a Corsair or NZXT adapter was the best thing I ever did in terms of lowering noise and temps

How many meters are the Nvideo 3xxx transformers? Is it a big difference from my 1060?

Because Intel has been on the same meter transformer for like 5 generations now and somehow is getting huge performance gains with lower power consumption. My 7700HQ, for instance, is a lot slower than a mainstream laptop I5 from the 10th gen Intel.

Just built it today. 3400G is temporary until I get a 5950x.
Ram says the clock is 1333.2 MHz. I got a 2x32GB 3600MHz kit. Should I try to increase the clock in the BIOS? First time building a computer so I'm not sure.

5950X will last 10+ years easily. Why the fuck would anyone pay $1000+ for a GPU that will lose its value in 2 years, in 4 years become a mediocre $200 gpu?
>>
>>78821837
someone who actually builds a machine with parts that equal each other. you don't buy a beautiful cpu and pair it up with a pile of rotting shit. that 3070 is slower than your 5950x and prevents it from delivering you the most amount of performance it can give.

you're a fucking freak and a moron.

Idk. My 7700HQ is 14nm and Intel's newer 14nm CPUs are both way faster AND consume a lot less power.

My i7 7700HQ is demolished by low-end i3s despite the same lithography. I don't get it.
