Why don't you have a 4790k?
>>
Because I like my chips secure.
>>
because i have a 9900k
>>
because I have an r5 1600
>>
Because I shitcanned it along with it's dying motherboard and went AMD.

I do

Because I have 3300x

Imagine paying 200 bucks on second-hand obsolete piece of shit
>>
I'm not poor.
>>
>>76576426
I gave it to a friend when I switched to a 1700X.
Its a great cpu, but wanted better socket support. I'll to upgrade to a 3700X later this year or so.
If I hadn't switched to amd, I'd probably still be using it.
>>
>>76576551
Imagine having 4 cores in current year
>>
>>76576652
This. Two cores is obviously more than enough in current year.
>>
>>76576426
I do, it was the best hardware investment I've made. Still going strong after 5 years.

:'(

because It's not 2014 anymore anon
>>
>>76576980
Same with 4670K
I haven't even had a need to OC it
>>
>>76576426
I upgraded to a 9900k. Gave the 4790k system to my cousin.
>>
>>76576426
Because I still have my 2600k
>>
>>76576551
No one bought these used, if anything anons itt have used them for 8 or more years and bought them when they were new. My processor is turning 9 years old this year and it still has the same coolermaster fan on it, never been dusted or cleaned since I got it in 2011
>>
>>76576980

>>
>>76576426
Had a 4770k till about a month ago when I got a 3900x.
>>
>>76576426
Because I've changed my 4690K for 5775C 2 years ago (found a nice deal with accepted offers on some used parts ebay page).
But honestly 4690K would be still enough for me. I was probably just indoctrinated by corelet memes on /g/.
>>
>>76576426
because I have an e3 1270 v3 :^)
>>
>>76576426
Sold my old system with one to a friend and got a 3900x. It was good, but not good enough for what I'm getting into.
>>
4460 is absolut
>>
>>76576426
Because it's the fastest LGA1150 chip, which means that the prices suck. My 4690 will last a few more years. It's not great, but it's good enough for me. I'm not investing any more money in this old platform.
>>
>>76576426
I have one.
Hodling for Zen3. Then it's good riddance.
>>

>>
>>76576426
because upgrading to a 3600 from my 4690k was nearly the same cost as buying a used i7.
>>
>>76577821
if u gayme or multitask its not enough. my 4690k could run rainbow six as long as I closed everything else out... now on my 3600 I can leave 40 tabs of chrome open, photoshop, vlc, vegas, audacity, all of them. and I still get good framerates in newer games like r6 and VR
>>
>>76577106

Yep, way more fun than "Install Mitigations For This Week's Hardware Vulnerability CMXLIV".

No VT-d.

I fucking hate it and want the 4790.

>if u gayme or multitask its not enough
60Hz monitor, dude. It was more than enough really, considering that it was OCed and was paired with 16Gb of 2400/11 RAM. I'm not into 40 tabs, but I doubt that they're eating a lot of CPU time. Probably more of a RAM type of a load.
A bit of a boost in Unreal Engine is fine tho, but I not doing project imports/shader recompilation too often to be honest.
>>
>>76579711
I mean you can tell me how my computer was running, but I promise you I couldn't multitask for shit with my i5 at 4.3 with 16gb of 1333 while playing new vidya at 1080p 60hz. And beyond that literally for VR and pavlov the difference between my 3600 and 4690k was being able to turn the video settings all the way up and still leave programs open.

Im not denying that for most games its enough, because until the past couple years it handled everything I threw at it. But new games 100% make good use of threadcount, because ive gone from maxing out all four cores while gaming, to barely cracking 60% cpu usage.

wtf why are these chips selling for 200 bucks on ebay?
>>
>>76576426
But I do
>>
>>76580881
Because Intel stagnated and something from 6 (more like 1) generations back still competes.
>>
I have a 4770, does OC make a big difference?
>>
I have an i5 4690K, so why should I bother with 4790k
>>
>>76581427
If it makes sense to blow money and time for meager gains, then it's a hobby. If you care about if there are gains, you're poor. That's all it is.
>>
>>76581522
2 wasted hours for 15% improvement?? Just buy moar cores instead!

I have one. It's been a great cpu but starting to show its age in some situations. Also it runs really fucking hot but maybe that's just mine.
The crazy thing is how much these still fetch on the used market, they change hands for more than R5 3600s cost new.
>>
>>76580881
its the best mass produced ddr3 chip you can buy

>>
>>76580881
Intel CPUs never lose their value.
>>
>>76580881
Because on many boards it's pretty much the end of the line as far as the upgrade path goes. Afterall it's cheaper to buy a $200 replacement part than to get an entire new platform.
>>
>>76576426
I replaced it for a 3700x
>>

the S variants of haswell i7s were pretty great
barely any reduction in clock speed but a much lower tdp and better power draw
quite nice for SFF builds

Because they are fairly good CPUs still. $200 is still way too much 100-150 is more reasonable. The performance jump from 2014 to now isn't that great. These CPUs can still handle 80-100 fps+ on triple a games when paired with a rtx card or a 1080
>>
>>76576426
because 250USD used, that's why
The used market is mental and these things shouldn't cross 75usd max.
>>
>>76588024
They really should be cheaper considering that you have to basically using outdated motherboard use the chip. My guess is that it's illiterate boomers parting out these computers. Either that or it's people trying to upgrade by building a new computer and they need money.
