Help me choose an upgrade, /hpg/. I have PSB M4U 1 headphones, Cayin N3 DAP and O2 amp. N3 drives the headphones OK, but O2 lifts the whole experience one step above. I've tried Denon AH-D7200 and Focal Clear, and think headphone upgrade isn't worth it. But what about DAP? O2 shows I could benefit from more powerful one, also I'd like it to be more neutral. Any recommendations?

You either have terrible hearing or listen to really lo-fi stuff. The difference from gayming headsets to any decent headphones should literally make you cry.

you probably lack enough power to drive them well enough to hear the differences

an amp isn't particularly needed if your hearing is good enough and you constantly listen at softer than speaking levels anyway

also you can listen to these on your headphones to compare

DT770 have pretty decent bass. But they're absolute treble cannons to the point they overwhelm the bass at times. Listening to the DT770s after a session with HD600 is painful but they're great otherwise if you get used to them. The DT880s don't have a lot of bass and still have the ear rape treble. They're some of the most comfortable headphones I've used though. Those pads are like clouds.

Not really, just try optical, connecting to a different device/os, different cable. If the usb really is broken you could open it to see if there's something obviously broken/not making contact, just in case, but you're pretty much screwed in this case and you have to send it back and get a replacement.

Had DT770s for a while now, velour earpads are pretty flat now, also I've washed them before in the past.

sup /hpg/, I'm looking to get the DT 990s 600ohm version and I'm wondering what to power them with. been leaning on the aune X1s/topping dx3 pro (250 eurobucks max) - any other suggestion in that price range?

is the O2+ODAC worth considering? thanks
>>

Egshell protein is the most based material.
And what are you supposed to get for warmth? In my experience leather is the warmest and velour by far the brightest.

Yeah, they are very comfortable but the bass is gone, what a shame. Tested them on my MDR V6 and it had the same effect. You do realise that you are describing the stock pads too, right? It's probably a sealing issue due to the size difference.

comfort is an important factor; i'll be using these for hours on end.
i heard the dt770 is pretty comfy but i have concerns above the sound signature; the mdr-7506 might do good in the sound quality/signature area, but i'm concerned about comfort; open to other options
>>
only buy german brands.
support the german economy.
>>
>>71832553
It's a bit of an exotic option, but the Custom Studios sound very similar to the DT770 and have the same comfort, however they have bass ports, all the positions have increased bass, except for the first one, which is actually very bass light, so maybe that works for you?
If the Studio is too expensive you can get the Custom One Pro and DT770 pads for it, which will sound the same.
>>
>>71832549
they objectively sound better, even if slightly so
>>
>>71832661
That's an interesting option. Unfortunately, in my region, the Custom One Pro plus DT770 pads costs about exactly as much as the Custom One Studio; and at that price, I could consider many other interesting options too. The reason I'm setting the price low is mostly because these will be carried around a lot, and I might get a different open-back pair for home listening later on.

Weeb shit. Main use of this headphone will be listening to calls made by my co-workers. (I do QA.) I don't know about audeze pads.
>the only reason you think velour is bright is because of beyers, which are even brighter with leather pads
Nope, replacing velour with pleather or leather on the open audio technicas kills the treble and makes them a very warm mess. I also tried velour on a closed back to see how bad it is and they just became completely unusable, treble and only treble, the fr was just going up to something like +20db treble vs bass (compensated not raw).
It means they have very different effects on different cans.

Hight ouput impedance coupled with low impedance headphones just means most of the power will be wasted and probably the signature will be fucked up as impedance varies with frequency. So, worst case scenario is low volume and/or low quality sound, there's no reason to destroy anything.

What does it mean if a pair of headphones says 4-600 ohms?

All noise cancelling headphones are wireless. They all require battery power so manufacturers just make it Bluetooth.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how they compare to the M50X or Senns HD 600 as I've never used those before, but it had some very nice sound. I'm not an expert with headphones but I'd say they're very powerful but have a warm sound signature. They're pretty comfortable too but looking back I think it's just a smart idea to buy better pads for your headphones, even if the defaults are good. They lasted me over 5 years. They probably would have lasted me a lot longer but they weren't cared for very well. With that said, these things hold up. You can beat the shit out of them and they'll still work. My pair's right ear just finally gave out. I could probably go in an fix it but I think I'm just ready for a new pair. Hope my post helps you, anon.

I got a Schiit Fulla to replace my Modi that died recently. It powers my DT770s well, and I don't notice a difference in sound quality. It also works well as a preamp for my speakers, the volume knob feels nice.

Maybe my Fullla was falty then, because i could clearly hear the static noise in the background, and that terrible scratch noise when turning the volume knob, that just disgusted me. Ended up selling it for the iFi micro BL. It's WAY more expensive, but i got it used and i really like it a lot.

I don't hear any static with mine, and it's silent while I'm turning the volume knob. I've had that issue on other amps, and it's very annoying.
It has the same DAC chip as the Modi, and I can't hear a difference. It doesn't go quite as loud as my Magni, but it's more than loud enough for my DT 770s.
The main reason I got the Fulla over just another DAC was so I could use it as a preamp. It's nice being able to switch from my speakers to headphones by just plugging them in.

Never had the Modi. I wanted to keep a single device, not a dedicated amp AND a dedicated DAC. Add to that the additional features, it made the jump to the newer amp easier. The Fulla also sold pretty fast, i just think it's wise to upgrade when driving anything upwards of an HD599.
