https://youtu.be/rT366GiQkP0>first launch in 2 hours>going to deploy 60 low orbit satellites>world wide wifi>sub 100ms latency>up to 1Gbps speedAre we ready for the new generation of wifi?
>Eccentric billionaire launching a web of satellites with the promise to provide global high speed internet free of standards ISPsWait a minute I've seen this one
>>70970501Oh I love 2.4 gHz being beamed into my brain 24/7.Why is the thumbnail a terrifromed mars? Don't they know that it's a tectonically dead planet that can't hold an atmosphere because there's no magnetic field?
>>70970976this post is needlessly cynical.
>>70970501came in late. did india blow up those sattelites yet?
>>70970976>not reactivating the molten core
>>70972555Upper atmosphere winds were bad, had to can the launch until tomorrow.
>>70970976It looks like it might be possible to give Mars an artificial magnetic field, by sticking some bigass nuclear powered magnets at the L1 point. This guy here works out the math; if we have rockets good enough to settle Mars, building this shield would be completely doable.https://medium.com/our-space/an-artificial-martian-magnetosphere-fd3803ea600c
>>70970501The high frequency trade merchants are going to love this. For those who don't know, light/radio waves going through air or vacuum moves noticeably faster than light in a fiberoptic cable. Those latency differences are enough that hft had shelled out for microwave links between major cities. Starlink will be able to do the same on long haul routes like London Singapore or New York Tokyo. Also, it is very impressive that Starlink managed to get 60 satellites in there; before this announcement most people were predicting 20 something per launch. They should have basic worldwide coverage in only a dozen launches or so. Not enough for mass consumer use, but good enough to start selling to those low-latency merchants, and other niche customers like cruise ships, isolated military bases, oil rigs, and so on.
>>70972753well at least that gives me the chance to watch it then
>>70970501world wide botnet
>>70972555Why do brown people pretend to be all civilized and try to launch rockets and shit before making sure they're not dying of starvation and dysentery?
>>70972894wow, what a super nifty idea
>>70970501I don't like this, why do we need this?
>>70974249Musk-controlled internet is great for Elon.
