How bad is this shit actually for your health? I thought it was banned in Canada but just found out I have been consuming it for years under the name "glucose-fructose".
>>
>>72294581
Corn syrup in its "natural state" (by that i mean just liquified corn starch) is mostly glucose. This makes it not as sweet or tasty as table sugar (which is 50/50 fructose/glucose).

So to make it more like table sugar, enzymes are added to convert some of thrme glucose into fructose. This is less known but there are many types of HFCS that differ in fructose content. The most prevalent is HFCS 55, which is 55/45 fructose/glucose, so basically like table sugar. It goes as high as 90/10, but that is pretty rare.

So basically, most of the time, it's about as or slightly worse than normal sugar. Which is to say, it may contribute to weight gain (only through its caloric content, nothing special here) or cause insulin resistance/fatty liver when consumed in a huge excess. Which is easy to achieve when it's added to literally everything.
>>
>>72294581
the glucose portion gets absorbed more quickly than regular sucrose would so it's kind of bad but not as bad as regular corn syrup which is literally just glucose. the "high fructose" in hfcs refers to in comparison to regular corn syrup.
>>
>>72294581
>refineries are usually filled with spics who barely speak english
>there were reports of mercury contamination
put two and two together, on paper there's nothing wrong with HFCS
>>
>>72294634
>So to make it more like table sugar, enzymes are added to convert some of thrme glucose into fructose
yeah but it takes time for the human body to break down sucrose into glucose and fructose. with hfcs it's basically pre-digested for you and glucose quickly absorbes into the blood.
>>
>>72294637
>not as bad as regular corn syrup which is literally just glucose
The higher GI of pure glucose contributes more to insulin resistance, but less to fatty liver. Fructose can only be metabolized by liver, which causes it to get covered in fat if it has to process too much.
>>
>>72294581
I dunno never had it.
>>
>>72294652
That seems plausible but does not appear to be true. There have been several studies that tested the insulin response to HFCS abd regular sugar, none found an appreciable difference.
>>
>>72294654
good point. I guess then maybe hfcs can be considered more healthy than sucrose?
>>
>>72294649
reaganites should be shot on sight
>>
>>72294684
Well, insulin resistance is typically a bigger risk and a more life-altering condition, bit fatty liver can be more dangerous. Hard to say, you shouldn't overdose on either.
>>
>>72294581
It’s basically just sugar. The constant exposure to unnaturally huge amounts is the real problem.
>>72294691
Reagan had a lying commie libshit congress and ever since then they have been selectively enforcing immigration law to enable and maximize the spic invasion. The best Reagan could have done was mass assassination.
>>
>>72294581
It's not as bad as everyone thinks. Both glucose and fructose are natural parts of the human diet.
What this >>72294634 anon said is correct. We just eat waaay to much of it.
>>
>>72294773
The bigger issue is that the foods it's on are generally very bad or low quality. It's a good indicator of stuff to avoid.

while that is a good point, consider the following.
if 90% of the food in grocery stores shouldn't be eaten, that is a societal failure.
to illustrate, if most food had meth in it; would you really blame a kid for being a meth addict?

it's as bad for you as eating pure sugar is.
sure you might not do it if you had to eat pure sugar - but dissolve it in literally everything you eat and the dosages get super high.
also just like sugar it makes eating feel really good and makes you not wanna stop so it's the double whammy.

Fructose is the worst thing you can put in your body, other than actual poisons and drugs. It cant be compared to sucrose or other carbohydrates in any way, its detrimental effects are hundreds of times worse due to how it works on a biological level in your body.
Im phoneposting rn and cant be assed too explain this in depth, but theres a nice 1h long lecture on youtube about this. Basicly the reason murrica is so RIDICOLOUSLY fat AND cancer-ridden, is all to blame on fructose, even with their abundance of other shit foods.

it's fine. in the past it was worse when the processing was less refined and corn starch was often leaking into the product. if you understand why you'd want sugar in your diet you wouldn't mind hfcs.
>>
>>72294581
It's extremely bad

>How High Fructose Corn Syrup Causes Disease
One factor that makes a big difference in your metabolic rate is the type of sugar you consume. Contrary to popular belief, there's a dramatic difference between high fructose corn syrup and cane sugar. They're really two different foods. If the high fructose corn syrup is properly processed to remove all starch, then it's very similar to cane sugar because it's about 55% fructose and 45% glucose.

However, studies have shown beverages sweetened with high fructose corn syrup contain a tremendous amount of starch, which isn't accounted for in the calories listed on the label. Once the starch is factored in, the caloric content of many sodas can easily quadruple that on the label, so you're getting FAR more calories than you think.

Additionally, because the starch is made up of such tiny particles, they can enter your blood circulation unprocessed via your digestive system, potentially causing an allergic reaction.

They can also trigger a low-grade inflammatory reaction, which will trigger the release of histamine, nitric oxide and serotonin. As noted by Dinkov, if you're sneezing and have itchy eyes even though it's not allergy season, you may well be having a reaction to something you ate or drank, and high fructose corn syrup may be the culprit.

Starch particles also serve as fuel for pathogenic bacteria in your gut, and the endotoxins from these bacteria contribute to inflammatory conditions. Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is one example of what can happen, especially if you're on a proton pump inhibitor, as these drugs decrease the amount of stomach acid you're producing. Stomach acid is there not only to help with digestion but also to keep bacteria in check.

Realistically nothing. A lot of the studies that shit on it also say to limit Molasses and pretty much all sugars.

>In 2018, the American Heart Association recommended that people limit total added sugar (including maltose, sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, molasses, cane sugar, corn sweetener, raw sugar, syrup, honey, or fruit juice concentrates).

Which is hilarious because everyone freaked out and started using alternative sweeteners that have the same exact risk as corn syrup. It's just another thing fat asses and retards use to blame all their problems on instead of looking in a mirror.

Because the original Cola was made with Kola Nut a seed that contained more caffeine then coffee. They would boil the nut into a syrup that would then be mixed with carbonated water. Coke was essentially an energy drink compared to modern Coke.

Anyway modern Cola doesn't use Kola nuts outside of some fancy bottles. So instead they add artificial coloring since the artificial flavoring is clear.

But Americans are eating less corn syrup than they used too, with the last 20 years or so seeing a steady decline in corn syrup (and over all sugar usage), yet people keep getting fatter. Also, quite a few countries have higher than cancer rates than the US - Denmark of all places has the highest cancer rates, followed by Ireland and Belgium. Not exactly places known for corn syrup usage.
