There’s literally people posting on fit right now that can’t even bench 2 plates. How long did it take you to reach 2 plates for 8 reps and what’s your hot tip for bench gains?
I probably can't, haven't lifted in probably 8 months
>>71076318Why did you stop anon?
I literally just bought a used barbell and a pile of weights. I'm afraid I will be laughed at if I don't carry them all to my car in one go
>>71076175What is that in lbs/kg?
>>71076358100kg
>>71076362My best is currently about 1 plate 5x5. I got there in about 2 months.
>>71076375Nice! What diameter squat plug are you running?
6 months to bench 2plates for 8 reps by practicing 1rms at the end of each workout ... 1rm because 5 rm then 8 rm. I practice all rep ranges in on one day multiple days a week but I keep daily volume low to keep weekly volume reasonable .. Bulgarian. How many of you bench 315? I saw a Greg doucette video that said less than 1 % of lifters can do that and that it takes 5 years
**becomes not because
5 months in and i can't even lift 1 pl8 for 8 repscurrently at 52.5kg
>>71076526how much do you weigh?
>>71076526>52.5kgI mean 1 plate for reps in your instance would actually be semi impressive because it's higher than your bodyweight... age/height?
My typical chest day is benching 2.5 pl8s 5x5
>>7107656365kg>>7107656452.5kg is my max bench for 8 repswhen i started i could do 35kg for 8 reps so it kinda improvedi think i'll be able to bench 1pl8 by the end of summer
>>71076601>65kgYou need to bulk up
>>71076175I did pushups for years before I hopped on the bench so I can't say for sure how long it took me. Generally you want the 5-10 rep range for making gainz on the bench. Everyone has different ideas of what this range is but get real, doing 2-3 reps that you can barely crank out ain't doing shit. Once you start blasting out more than 10 reps, it's time to move up in weight. I made my 2pl8 bench reps increase at 205 pounds. So when I was barely doing less than 5 reps of 2pl8, I was getting a damn good pump at 205 reaching around 10 reps. Before I knew it I was banging out 10 reps at 2pl8 and the cycle continues. Don't think you got a good pump? Superset into pushups.
>>71076175Lifting twin 50kg dumbells is the seperator.>t. 2.5 plate normal bench for reps
I was up to 2pl8 and then I was out of the gym for 6 months. Working my way back into it over the last 4 weeks. Back up to 200 already.
currently at 80(kg)x4x4Could maybe 1rm 90 on a good day?Started with just the bar 18 months ago...one day.
Went from 68 1rm to 87 in 4 months, still progressing but it feels like im plateuing pretty hard this month. Probably Will take more than 6 months from this point for 2pl
>>71076175it took me a few months at first because I didn't know how to train, I just followed some frens around at my gym doing a brosplit lolyears later I actually read about training (picrel) and easily got to 2 plates in a month I guesssince I started with 1pl8 and added 5lbs a workout with 1-2 bench workouts a week; so that's another plate in a month more or lessanyway, I ended up benching 290lbs or 295 for fives before I got really sickwhat really helped me was learning how to bulldog grip the bar and where the bar path should be as I got stuck a couple timesI know I didn't reach 300 before I got really sick for like a week and tested negative for coof kekthen I did other shit for a year and now I'm struggling with 190 on day 2 of bench after starting from 185but it'll come back to be after a couple weeks, it just feels really awkward and stressful until my chest learns how to move as the foundation for the bar path again
>>71076175>How long did it take you to reach 2 platesI hit it the first time ~2.5yrs into my training. That's because I started off as a fat fuck and prioritized losing the weight before strength, then built myself up. Ofc the first 1.5yrs was doing stupid ineffective shit like every other newbie.
>>71076175>>71076832also you shouldn't care about 'how long it takes you to do it'. If you were to eat like an animal and hit chest every other day ofc you would hit it in just a couple of months - but then you'd be a fat fuck who only has a developed chest. It's all about balance.
>>71076841a 300-500 surplus won't make you fat lol
In my gym only me and two other guys can bench 2 plates. It’s not common
>>71076341No point
>>710763975 inches
>>71076854It’s a lot of calories he will lose his youthful appearance for nothing
>>71076879wait i meant 5 inches radius
>>71076882okay groomer
>>71076635Not him but I'm current 68 kg/150 lbs at 5'5 and I can bench 135 lbs (1pl8) for 8 reps. Current 5RM is 150 lbs (bodyweight bench). Current 5RM OHP is 110 lbs. Should I still bulk up?I have piss poor deadlift and squat numbers too.
>>71076894Oh and some background: I was skelly all through out my teenage years. No sports background, always cooped up in my room. Finally got to do push ups and pull ups in my junior and senior year in the summer but didn't carry through with any proper training afterward. Finally formally started gym training at 21 but was just an upper body bro. This is probably the reason for the disparity of my upper body lifts and lower body lifts.
I usually do 1pl8 to failure as my first set. It goes up to 23 or 24 reps on a decent day, 20 usually. After that I can do 70 for 8 and 80 for 3 after that. Would it be better to not go to failure the first set and then try heavier weights?I'm just interested in hypertrophy btw
>>71076894do ss or something similar and eat but don't overeat more than 500 calories a day from your tdee (total daily energy expenditure)if you don't see weight gain after a week or two, eat a little moreyou'll even out in 3-6 months and learn the lifts well, then you can diet off the extra fat until you see lower abs againthere probably won't be much more desu, I didn't even notice the weight gain when I did it other than getting a fuller pump while working outbut everyone told me I looked bigger and healthier
>>71076894Of course you should bulk. 68kg is still very light. As you eat more and get heavier, you'll build more muscle and your lift will also increase. Stretch your bulk out for as long as possible. Cutting the fat after a year or so will be pretty quick if you're consistent.Make yourself a meal plan with something like cronometer so you know how much of what you need to eat to reach your goals.
>>71076175Is people counting plates instead of the actual weight a meme? Because it annoys me to no end, a child can lift 2 plates if the plates are 1lb each
>>71076967>>71076973Thanks anons
>71076977(You)
>>71076347Man whenever i go to play it again sports for more 1" "standard" plates for my dbs i feel the same way.Thankfully its only ever been like 100 lbs at once.Im pretty sure its all in our heads except for that one lifter guy watching you, dont hurt yourself anon.
>>71076973You don't need to bulk I'm also 5'5 and 72.5kg and can only bench 88kg for 8 reps. Going up is a matter of building muscle not getting fat
>>71076175Judging by this thread, practically no one. It took me 1 year of dedicated training to hit 225 x 5, and 3 years of bro splitting around before that.
>>71076175>There’s literally people posting on fit right now that can’t even bench 2 plates.I am one of those people, been lifting since december, can only bench 90 kg, failed 95 kg twice, i am a failure

>>71078697Muscle is built by protein after microtears through training, you don't have to get fat to grow muscle
>>71076175Let's talk about a real milestone like a lmao3pl8 benchAny male can optimize form and bench lmao2pl8
>>71076942>burning out on your literal warm up set for no reasonYes you idiot, cap your first sets and go for heavier weights on your working sets if you want to actually grow.
>>71078761Can we see your optimized form and 2pl8 bench?
>>71076175Less than 1% of the general population can do it. Most people in any given gym can’t do it…..but everyone online is repping out 10x10 @ 315. The actual number of men who can do 1 rep at 315 is 1/10,000. A fat ass at my sons bball game claimed he used to bench 615. People are full of shit
>>71076942Ramp sets are a good way to build volume and warm up at the same time. e.g. 135 x 8 160 x 8185 x 8210 x 5-8 235 x 8 185 x F (back off set)
>>71076868what's the point of anything? why do we wake up every day? go workout and stop being a faggot
>>71078853real.The only dude I've seen at the gym benching big weight is probably on roids. Dude mogged the fuck out of the entire planet fitness.Haven't seen him in a while, they probably kicked him out for mogging too hard.I dont like the bench motion DESU. I can do 12+ dips.Put 2pl on the other day just to see, but it felt too heavy and I didn't attempt it, and just dropped to 1pl + 25 on each side.
>working out and dieting since November >Bench 4x10 twice a week>Just hit 28kg (including the bar)
>>71076175I can't even deadlift 2 plates
>>71079064Brutal, this board is incredibly weak.
>>71076175>you can't bench 2pl8>you can't bench 2pl8 x8Pick one faggot. It took me 10 years, 13-23, 145 pounds BW.
>>71076868then why are you here?
>>71078853Agree. There are people who plateau at like 160lbs and still struggle at it after years. If you put 170lbs on some day they would fail and need saving from being crushed. It's no joke, people like that really exist. And they are not crippled or abnormally unhealthy, possibly they didn't do anything involving strength while they were developing as a kid.
>>71076175Unrelated but has anyone done bb squats from a bottom starting position? Have a low DIY rack so I was wondering if anyone noticed any difference between regular squats.Probably no difference in the efficacy, but maybe a core stability risk? Not sure
>>71076175I don't know how long for 8 reps but I could bench 2 plates for 1 rep max immediately.
I lifted over a year and never got to two plates. Lifting is a scam!
>>71076362It's actually 102.06kg but yuropoors are too poor to afford that 2.06.
>>71076868You stopped too early you idiot. You get sex once when you reach two plates and another two at three plates.
>>71076175Took me a few years. First couple years I just went to the gym to fuck around benching like 1 pl8. Wasn't until I looked into properly training that I actually hit 1/2/3/4 for reps.
>>71076868What did you expected to happen when you started?
>>71079333I was a horribly weak, sickly child that only did nerd shit and I can bench 2 plate. You think maybe it's a diet thing? Like maybe the people that plateau there aren't giving their body vital nutrients to grow or something?
155 lbs for 4 reps here, 2pl8 is and always seemed like an insurmountable mountain.meanwhile 4pl8 dead or 3pl8 squat seem perfectly reasonable.Which one do you think is harder?
>>710795504pl8 dead. I hit a 180kg dead when I could barely squat 100kg and could only ohp 60kg on a good day.
>>71076515>I saw a Greg doucette video that said less than 1 % of lifters can do that and that it takes 5 yearsIt's all subjective. I started being able to bench 60kg as my 1rm. My background was being a skinnyfat nerd, and it took me 3 years to hit that. I have a buddy who never gym's but plays sport avidly, and his first 1rm was a pretty easy 100kg. He could hit 140kg (315) in a year or two at most.
>>71076755you could easily 1rm 90, don't be a bitch. respectfully
>>71079633What is this in non cheating units?
I can do weighted dips for 2pl8s but not bench press since I hate that exercise.

>>71076175If you are struggling with bench at low weights, do push-ups too. It is that simple and ywmi.
I can't. I'm only at ~160lbs for reps.I don't know what my 1RM is. I lift at home alone and don't want to risk it.
I can for 15 reps but I like cables better
>>71076635nah he doesnt. i mean yeah he needs to lean bulk but hes fine as is. he just needs to keep lifting in a caloric surplust. ex skelly, but i used to bench 80kg whilst weighing 60kg bw.

Did 295 yesterday, after I got a new 1rm squat of 385 so I probably could have gotten 305, at least 300.I'm so close to 2/3/4/5 I can taste it.
>>71076977plates are standardized at 45 lbs or 20 kg, you know this
>can OHP 1rm for 145>can't bench 145 for 5 repsI really need to work on my chest
>>71080475Press to bench135 / 225 = 0.60 ratio225 / 315 = 0.71 ratioYou should hit 135 press before you hit 225 bench. Comparatively, a 2 plate OHP is very hard, and you should be squatting 4-plate well before that.
>>71080485Micro-loading is kinda lame, a 92.5 kg pr wouldn't feel as good (the smallest plates at my gym are 1.25 kg)
>>71080861Focus on getting a good pump at a slightly lower weight, BARELY SQUEEZING OUT 1 REP OF (european weight) is not going to help. Find the weight where you can push out more than 5 but struggle to get to 10.

>>710761752 months in i can bench 30kg, am female, first experience lifting. Is it bad?I always feel that benching is the hardest to me
>>71080934Try putting more weight on the bar.
>>71076175benched 2pl8s for reps at 16 yrs old. Wasn't a bloated POS, weighed 155 at the time when all I had was a bench. Best advice is to do bench 2-3 times a week and work out triceps plenty. Lying tricep extensions did it for me. Most of you guys should be able to at least get near it, just be consistent and strive to push yourself more than you usually do. Main thing you should learn as a novice/intermediate is intensity when lifting. Adjust hand placement, learn 2 arch, plant feet properly on the floor, and lower barbell.
How much do they weight? I can bench 2 plates (2 on each side) that weight 45 lb (ca. 20 kg), with a 44 lb (ca. 20 kg) bar.

>>71078917You will never find this in a strength athlete's or bodybuilder's program. do you wonder why?
>>71076175Out of people who actually go to the gym, whatever percentage that might be, I'd say only around 30% can bench 2pl8 - and by that I mean with full range of motion and without a spotter taking half the weight.Just go to any gym and you'll see, it's rare for anyone there to be benching that much. I feel like a lot of peoples perception on this is skewed by liars on the internet, saying they benched 2pl8 within weeks of starting. Anyone who really got that strong knows the time and work it takesAnd my bench gains hot tip is dumbbell bench. I find it activates my chest a lot better than barbells, I'm always a lot sorer afterwards and get a much better pump. Builds strength a lot more rapidly, which then translates to barbell strength gains
>>71081654Change the x8 to x5 and it's literally lifted from madcow intermediate (popular and effective strength-based hypertrophy program). By all means, keep on doing that straight sets 10x across and let us all know about your lack of progress.
>>71076526you're either a woman, still a kid, or just don't eat lol.If you are actually an adult man then you need to eat brah, eat a lot of high quality food and keep lifting and you'll get stronger. Bros today I benched 80kg x 12 85kg x 8 90kg x 6 And I was fatigued aswell cause I was 5 on. No belt no nothing What is my estimated 2pl8 bench? I’m going to try it on Tuesday
>>71081722pyramiding up with the same reps as your working sets is retarded and a waste of energy. no strength athletes or bodybuilders run madcow (reddit).
>>71076175I can, and we all can even if we don't, yet. Keep it up bros.>>71079465Kg is actually the weightlifting standard.>>71076601I second bulking up.Don't be a lard or eat whatever, but you are likely undereating. Try hitting 75kg over the span of a year. Not only does a higher bw affect your lifts, a caloric surplus allows for higher training volume and faster recovery. You're not as far from 2pl8 as you think, in all honesty.Consider training OHP if you don't, it helps BP more than vice versa. Dumbbell presses also helped me.8 is a high rep range, you should figure out some sort of range cycling. Train your 3RM, 5RM etc. 8 isn't that great for strength and as you move on you'll find that there's different teachings at different ranges and you need to play with that a bit.
>>71081797>sub-maximal effort training doesn't exist and no one does it. Incorrect. You're doing 4x working sets @ 70% / 80% / 90% / 70%.
>>71076601dude I hover 43-45kg (i'm lazy and suck at bulking) and bench 1plate 5reps,3 sets on bench days. Do SS or 5x5 bench progress and you get there in 3months (at your current level)
>>71081904you do understand greentexts are supposed to quote the other poster, right? sub maximal training shouldnt be done BEFORE your topset, the fact that its all in the same reps as well indicates that this is just arbitrary.>I want to make sure Im already tired from doing the least important part of my workout right before I get to the important part that requires focus and drive because I am a dyel faggot who loves drinking cumno you're right this greentexting thing is cool

What is "bare minimum" in places like /fit/ is "super elite" in the real world, I've realized this years ago. Hell, the majority of people working out at the gym don't seem to realize that the point is for the weights to be getting heavier and always be hard to lift, not just doing the motions, so how are they supposed to get to 2 plates?

>>71083366That's an extreme example, but it's functionally not that different than working with the same 10-20 kg dumbbells for the 1000th time, never struggling, never failing, never even getting red in the face or grimacing, which is how most people lift. >>71083323Of course 100kg is not crazy heavy, but it's heavy enough for your body to start telling you "Nah, I don't wanna" when you first start approaching it, so you're not gonna just find yourself benching 100 kg one day without paying much attention how you got there. Normies seem to not realize that the point is to disregard that "That's too heavy" voice and power through, they just listen to it.

That's why they can work up to 2pl8 in 2-3 months of simply increasing the weight on the bar every session. Muscle doesn't grow that fast.Meanwhile I trained for a year and only got to 1.5pl8 for 1. 2 months to hit a competition standard touch and go 2pl8 for 1 rep, but I could do 15 BW pullups and 25 dips before I entered the gym so I likely had the necessary muscle to do it already, just took some technique/neurological gains. Then I hit a brick wall just above 2pl8, slowly eeking up to 110kg now several months later.>>71084920If you can do 1.5pl8 for 8-10 reps, you can likely hit 2pl8 for 1.
>>710840443reps 5sets. Including the bar, so 1pl. I know I'm not weak, but I still have a lot to go
>>71076175If I weight 225lbs I bet I could bench 2pl8s
>>7107617510% topsweak motherfuckers smdh
>>71076863Nearly every guy i see on the bench is doing 2pl8 at mine, myself included. Funny the difference between gyms. It's not even a hardo specialty gym. Plenty of women and old folks come for the treadmills.
>>71082578WAGMI
>>71078853This right here. Half of the people here are making shit up or are exaggerating, especially given the nature of this Tibetan sock milking forum. That said the autism and commitment here may also account for a disproportionately high number of actual 2pl8 benchers. We are almost certainly fitter than the general population (inb4 som1 posts the sad obese black anon).Keep in mind also the importance of bodyweight ratio. A 225lb fatass benching 2pl8 is nothing, versus a 175lb person doing it while kean and with good form.I usually train with 2.5 pl8 for sets of 5-8. This took me like a decade. The army and night shifts really fucked everything up for me despite good training. It taught me to really respect sleep and also mindset and staying chill to keep your cortisol and glucose healthy.
>>71076175I can bench 2pl8 for 6 solid reps full ROM. I’m 5’10 but have pretty long arms (~6’3 wingspan) so I’m pretty happy with it. Been trying to focus more on hypertrophy lately. I’m surprised by how mediocre my OHP apparently is though, I can do 1pl8 x 4 reps and that’s considered a lot less impressive from what I’ve seen.
>>71085275I lift at a uni gym.I see 2pl8+ for reps all the time, but 1.5pl8 is the most common. Most I ever saw was 4pl8 for a single, 3pl8 isn't really rare either. There's a selection bias because there are several gyms around the city you can go to, and this one has the best equipment, so stronger people want to go there while I think it's intimidating for weaker people.
>>71076175I cannot. Stuck at like 175 lbs. Have trouble keeping my delts from doing more work than my chest and know this is holding me back.
>>71085111What you mean including the bar? So like 135lbs or 225lbs??
>>71085396135
>>71076175Currently happy benching 70 for 3x12, dont want any injuries until finish cutting.
>>71085669That's not 2 pl8s my guy
>>71085970I didn't claim so...
>>71085695>benching 70 for 3x12>cuttingpls be troll post
Are you all not eating right or something? I hit 2 plate in 3 months and that’s on shit sleep

>>71086053We're not all 240lb lards like you
>>71086179I’m 160
>>71081357bros.... im at a over 4/6/9.5/9.5....how do I make my upper body catch up
>>71076942What the fuck.
>>71084217I hopw you have a home gym, otherwise you act like a real nigger at the gym.
>>71081764104kghttps://strengthlevel.com/one-rep-max-calculatorMaybe try 95kg first and work your way up though. People often underestimate the huge difference 5kg can make.
>>71086890>>71081764sry I thought you said estimated 1rm
>>71079822>bench is easiest>deadlift is second>squat is third>OHP hardestfor mepress and squat are the easiest to fraud out of these, not a coincidence
>>71082780a lot do, imagine unironically needing to pin to bench lmao2pl8 you gave yourself away
>>71076175I’ve been training for 13 months and I just finally hit 1/2/3/4 after benching 2pl8 for the first time yesterday. Idk for some people (lanky cunts I’m looking at you) progressing bench is annoying and gay. When I first started I used to train with one if my mates every now and then and he still has difficulties with bench. His form is just awkward and respectfully he just doesn’t have that dog in him to disregard his own safety and push himself.
>>71078987I can do about 12 dips, and I can bench 215.
>>71079056Hey, someday, your diet will end, and you will have more energy to make progress.
>>71079713SCxPxLx | | VxxSCPLxJust treat every missed workout like an extra rest day, then do whatever you were supposed to do next. All that happened was that you were more well recovered before your next chest and shoulder day, instead of being less recovered. There’s no difference otherwise.
>>71087366the problem you you your friend have is likely that you're br*t*sh
>>71081741Thank you 7 years a DYEL anon
>>71085978whats wrong with cutting? is it not correct to cut if you have fat you want to get rid of?
>>71081943>outing yourself as a newfag
before I started lifting weights for wrestling I boxed. Since we did a pot of push ups I could bench 210 the first time and hit 225 within 2 months
>>71081268I've never seen a woman bench irl so I guess it's good
>>71076175never really trained bench press but I'm at 70kg ohp abs 55kg behind neck presslast week i trained bench because i realised that my chest won't actually magically get too big unless I'm on roids (yeah needed too long to unnormie myself)and yeah i easily did 2 reps of 100kg Benchidk what all the fuss is about, literally haven't trained chest onceyou must be genetic dead-ends bros>picrel is me rn after morning shower imagine getting mogged by a 30 yr old who has never benched ahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha
>>71088056>imagine getting mogged by a 30 yr old who has never benched ahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahaI easily ohp'ed 70kgs my first time when I benched over 2 plates. you're a faggot
>>71086795I do by i mostly go to the gym for motivation, I put the weights back on the rack after every set nigger
Am I the only who thinks getting to a 3 plate HB ATG squats is way harder?
>>71076868I'll prove you wrong.
>>71088597NTA but judging by the looks of your delts you push pressed 70kg, not OHP'd
>>71088597you're ultra ugly lol
>>71076175Today I will remind them
>>71086505Stop taking roids
>>71087996>lying about other poster's implications is oldfaggotry
>>71087821doing hypertrophy training on a cut is suboptimal. You are causing more muscle damage that your body lacks the nutrients to repair and grow and have less glycogen with which to fuel these drawn out workouts.
>>71090116>>71090129seethe cope and dilate
>>71087296oh no I "gave myself away" to bunch of cartoon watching dyels.I dont bench 2 plates anyway. I'm almost up to three. In before some dyel says "lol you need to roid to bench 3pl8s"
>>710808611.25 kg plates are not microloading, they’re standard loading. It is standard to add 2.5 kg at a time, and if you try to add more than that at a time, you are retarded and don’t want gains. If you want microloading, there are 0.625 kg plates out there, but they cost money, so I never used them until recently, when they magically appeared in my gym.
>>71076868you should kill yourself NOW
>>71086890no i already benched 2 pl8's in jan 23
>>71076347>>71081253When I bought my first set of weights the dude at the checkout had a slight grin/smirk on him as I was about to take them away - he was also in good shape himself while I was completely dyel. So we were both slightly concerned on if I could take them out by myself in one go (and frankly it was a little uncomfortable). And I thought afterwards about how I should have said to him right before I picked them up - "my first workout". But of course I didn't, I just walked out, and will never get that opportunity again in my lifetime. Always happens, later thinking of the perfect thing to say.
>>71076868dangerously based
>>71076175Wasn't genetically gifted in lifting and tried cutting too hard off the bat to get shredded. I bulked and ate more and low and behold it helped significantly.2019-2020 benched 45+25 for my max2020-2021 covid destroyed gains fuck globohomo2022-2023 came back strong and hit 225 x 1. Ate more and more. 225 x 5 eventually 8x.Then this year I just hit 275lbs max on my bench. Will be trying to increase more but working on a summer cut so strength gains aren't the priority. Biggest tip I received is actually arching the back, but keep your ass on the bench. You SHOULD do this to progressive overload even if you consider this cheating, because your tendons need to keep up. Using actual wrist wraps helps and flat palming the bar is a major advantage. Actually take your form seriously and record your bench. Follow proper bar pathing. Stop winging it and trying to go for volume. Do less other shit to train your strength and start with Bench. Too much training can really tire your chest out so if your goal is strength, train for it.
