It will never cease to amaze me how fat people get. I'm reminded of the wonderful story of Dune which was published in 1965. In that story the leading villain Baron Harkonnen is portrayed as a man of all consuming appetite, weighing in at 440 pounds (or 200 kilos). This was a monstrously obese man in the mind of the author Frank Herbert in the 1960's. So fat in fact that he needs suspensors which are basically devices that suspend the weight and make it easier to move around. He can no longer carry his own weight.In modern America, we have millions of people above 440 pounds. We have tv shows called "My 600 pound life" which displays their corpulence and bed destroying ways to the whole world. We have big fatties driving around on scooters just to get around Wal-Mart. In the 1960's, 440 pounds was unimaginably big. I remember my dad telling me that when an NFL star was over 200 pounds in the 1960's that he was considered to be a giant. When people read Dune they likely envisioned a historical figure like King Henry VIII gorging himself all day, as both figures were royalty. But no, in modern America, millions of people can afford to engorge themselves at a level previously available only to royals. You no longer have to imagine.But the worst part is while that portrayal was over the top for its' time, it is a reality now. So bad that people will do anything but lose the weight. They'll make up a 500 page novel of excuses rather than putting down the chips. At this point with everything we know about medical science and health, no one should be overweight. Instead, everyone is obese. It's time to realize that fatties are a lost cause, we can only just sit on threads like this and laugh at them. Hopefully some will get the message.
