What's wrong with walking?
>>
Don’t see anything inherently wrong here, running is bad for long term joint health, running is boring, and being out longer by walking is good for mind and body.

Truth. People get bogged down in trying to be perfect and if it can't be perfect then might as well not bother. Can't run a mile? Better just sit on the couch. Didn't get 8 hours of sleep? Might as well not lift today.

>>
>>65144355
Reddit is right.

I walk (hike) on a 12% incline treadmill for 90 minutes a day at 3.3mph and I burn well over 1,000 kcal. I'd have to jog for about as long to burn as many calories, which is much harder on your joints.

I see so many gymbros do little to no cardio, then bitch about needing to eat so few calories to lean down. Most of you are total pussies when it comes to cardio.
>>
>>65145181
I mean, healthline is one of the few websites I trust about fitness info. Even their articles on the covid jab don't contain any propaganda.

Since the first day i gained conciousness 'til the day i moved away i saw this motherfucker every single day, running
>didn't have a car
>didn't have a family
>refused to greet you if you greeted him, he just ghosted you
>fanny pack always on
>even ran through the one grocery store we had when shopping

motherfucker literally wouldn't stop rooning
>>
>>65144355
Nah, studies show that fast hiking burns more kcal per hour than running does..
>>
>>65144965
It's very easy to develop an overuse injury, especially when you aren't lean.

Similarly to weight training, where people measure their strength progress only by muscular strength and don't think about tendons and other connective tissue, runners gauge their progress only by their respiratory capacity and end up doing too much too soon.

As long as you take a measured approach and slowly increase distance or speed over a long period of time you'll be fine.
>>
>>65145110
>one of the best forms of cardio
fucking dyel. try to get fit and you will realize that there is nothing more inefficient and boring as running.

I don't understand this bullshit that running hurts your knees. Running at 160kg and never felt pain. 120kg now and have only gotten faster and stamina grew.
>>
>>65145428
but does hiking burn more than walking
>>
>>65145445
it's pure fatty cope
>>
>>65145445
on a machine theres much less risk
outside on uneven ground and changing elevation there is a possibility of injury, but good form and paying attention to the floor minimizes this
>>
>>65145445
If you aren't heel striking you probably won't develop knee issues. Retards buy heavily padded running shoes and then slam their heels down on the ground when making contact, forcing your knees to absorb whatever impact the padding didn't.
>>
>>65145448
Hiking is just walking at an incline. Set your treadmill to 12-15% and try to walk at a brisk pace. You'll be drenched in sweat after an hour.
>>
Running injuries happen when one does too much too mast, or with bad form. The “knee” garbage is total bull and running or any other kind of leg exercise strengthens the muscles that hold the patella in place and in the long term is good for your knees
>>
>>65144415
>running at 60 miles/h

Walking or cycling are probably the best weight loss tools for beginners. However, while walking sounds like a piece of cake, the time it takes to get the same distance as with running will grow quite quickly to unbearable numbers. Once there is some cardio gains already, 1 hour runs are pretty great, because the alternative is to walk for 2 hours.
>>

Not true, our ability to throw objects is also unsurpassed in the animal kingdom. Even chimps can only manage to throw projectiles at 20-40mph.
An untrained human can easily throw a rock at 60mph and any strong man can throw at over 100mph. We have specific anatomical adaptions in our arm and shoulder morphology that allows us to do this, meaning it was selected for. One theory is that packs of hominids would use showers of rocks to scare off apex predators that had just made a kill so that they could access the carcass for themselves.

Both likely happened to some extent at different times.
Persistence hunting ends when the animal is too exhausted to keep running. At that point, spears or flint knives would be enough, or you could just bash it on the head.
Throwing stuff was an existing behaviour amongst primates, but the hominids that gave rise to us learned that they could use it to scare off predators. Around the same time as these changes were occurring in our shoulder anatomy, Africa's jungles were disappearing and being replaced by open savannah. That's a great environment for predators like lions, hyenas and cheetahs, but not so great for apiary primates like our ancestors.
The only hominids that would survive in that environment would necessarily need to adapt to moving around during the hot African day time, hence naked bodies and sweating to keep cool, and would need to be able to access calories.
Maybe it started from scavenging carcasses abandoned by lions initially, but it probably wouldn't take those hominids long to figure out that they could get a much better meal by waiting for a large predator to kill an animal, then scare it off by throwing heavy rocks at it to secure the kill for themselves.
Our ability to walk and jog for long distances without overheating might even have started, in part, from following predators around the savannah as they hunted, waiting for them to make a kill.

On the contrary, the vast majority of injuries occur in beginners, whether to poor form or overtraining.
>Results: After screening 815 abstracts, 13 original articles were included in the main analysis. Running-related injuries per 1000 h of running ranged from a minimum of 2.5 in a study of long-distance track and field athletes to a maximum of 33.0 in a study of novice runners. The meta-analyses revealed a weighted injury incidence of 17.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] 16.7-19.1) in novice runners and 7.7 (95% CI 6.9-8.7) in recreational runners.

My grandad lived until 91, and was still playing golf and hillwalking until his late 80s.
If you age well, with fitness and good health, you can enjoy living life pretty much right up until you croak.
If you age poorly, unfit, accumulating chronic health conditions then you will probably have a miserable time of it.
I'm going to try and age like my grandfather.

running is great when you are at a bmi and muscle makeup that the human body evolved for, i.e. weighing 50kg as a full grown man of nearly complete muscle and little fat. Running as a modern man fed on corn starch and seed oils as a 90kg skinny fat dyel 6 feet man or a 110 kg 5 10 redditor will absolutely destroy your knees because their knees are neither conditioned to absorb asphalt or even the soft earth as they never focused on fitness, and that human knees were not designed to handle those loads and also last a lifetime of use. You want to be able to run 10 miles whenever you want? You better be a 55kg man. You want to run 10 miles as an office worker? You're going to destroy your knees and the running sport is full of these people who destroyed their knees.

Running is quicker but feels like more effort - relatively unfit people can walk but they will feel like they're dying if they try to run
also you "need" special clothes and shoes to do it and you get sweaty so then you have to change/shower
>>
>>65148779
it's probably a mixture of inspiration by what they see in nature and a kind of zen mind-state you get it by doing something physical but that doesn't take much effort/thought.
I used to have a summer job cleaning equipment that was loaned out to scho/organizing equipment they rented to kids and it gave me a lot of contemplation time, came up with all sorts of project ideas during that time

Tbh? It can kill your knees and shoulders. Either you're installing lamps to the ceiling or junction boxes close to floor. The time in-between is spent bending plastic or aluminum pipes and nailing fasteners every 20cm's for cables.

Apart from that, it's honest work. The principles and basic knowledge of electricity hasn't changed for hundreds of years, so once you get the gist of it, you're set for life.

If you nail your tests and licences related to it, you can get a cozier job as an inspector, trainer or supervisor with fairly moderate effort, and leave the more physically unpleasant tasks to the young and naive.

Achievable in 4-5 years, set for life.

A lot of people, my mother included, fuck their knees up running because they wear modern cushioned shoes and land every single stride on with stretched leg on the heel. If you take your shoes off to run you'll immediately feel it and revert to running naturally, which is to touch the ball of your foot first and cushion with your calf muscle. Run correctly and you won't end up like my mom with no cartilage in the knees.
>>

Even carrying only 10 extra pounds of fat is a massive added strain that will take its toll on your knees over a long enough period of time.
You should only doing long runs if you’re already lean and fit.

I may be weird but when I run or bicycle the flab and bounce of my fat makes me want to get rid of it more. For cycling it's the act of being lighter means I will be faster and can climb better up a hill. While being leaner for running just means I can go farther which is fun.

He died at 69, 51 years later.
51 years with an extra month and a half of waking time per year gives him an extra 6 years and 4 months.
So he could have just lived normally, enjoyed getting a good night's rest, lived until 75 and broken even. Everyone who lives to 76 enjoys more waking hours of life than he did, and also gets to enjoy sleeping properly.
