do you do it, why or why not?
when and when not to do it?
>>
>>56238813
I don't do it because I'm a powerlifter
If I wasn't, I would try and fit it in at least once a week
>>
why wouldn't you OHP
>>
>>56238813
Do it because its awesome
Every single workout
>>
I OHP. It does me well. It's lifting afterall
>>
Why wouldn’t you do one of the best shoulder workouts
>>
OHP is based
It also makes people look more than any other exercise lol
>>
>>56238813
I do, it’s my best lift and helped build my shoulders. I hit 1 before I hit 2/3/4 on the other lifts. Pin presses from your sticking point (nose, forehead, lockout) help a ton.

I do it twice per week, one day focusing on going heavy, the other day focused on volume (think 531 type split). People say not to bench and press in the same workout, I’ve never had problems but again I split the volume up so maybe that prevents the issue.

chest/tri day
back/bi day
legs/shoulders day --> military press
>>
>>56238813
Military press is a better option to prevent you from using your legs. If you wish to stand just clean and press
>>
>>56238813
>do you do it, why or why not?
Yes. I think having big shoulders is very important for having a good physique... plus it's fun.
>when and when not to do it?
Do it 1.5 to 3 times per week... myabe 4 times even
>>
i do it every chest/shoulder/tricep day. it's literally a staple shoulder exercise for a reason.
>>
friendly reminder that if you cant ohp your bodyweight for 3 reps you are in fact a bitch
>>
>>56239113
I can do half mw for 5 reps

If you want big shoulders to increase your width you'll do them.
>>
>>56238826
For the same reason as the guy above you. If you want to train powerlifting seriously, you can't spend half your pressing time doing a lift that doesn't transfer well to the bench. There are plenty of bench accessories you should do rather than OHP
If you just want to be generally big and strong however, yeah OHP
>>
>>56238813

It's the most based lift. Literally making grills sploosh when you do at least one plate for reps.
>>
>>56238821
You are only a faggot
>>
>>56238813
Hurt my back doin OHP and never once deadlifting. Wtf yall.
>>
>>56240080
dude i arched my back too far, I can walk without pain in my lower back but am i fucked????
>>
>>56238870
Do you do the 531 reps on one day then the 10x10 at 50% the other?
>>
>>56240070
What do you mean?
>>
>>56240088
I recovered but my pain was in the pivot point between the thoracic and lumbar. Being long-limbed and having bad posture from years on the computer make for some serious flexibility issues in the neck/shoulders and hips/hamstrings which make doing things safely kind of hard without a lot of effort in mobility.
>>
>>56240184
oh okay so you recovered but anon does that mean im gonna recover and do ohp again? i dont lknow any other shoulder workouts :CCCC
>>
>>56240184
>>56240088
>>56240080
Weak cores. You're supposed to bend your knees a little and tense your core
>>
>>56240251
I bend my knees and do weighted crunches? got it thank u very much nigga
>>
>>56240031
>ohp is a bench accessory

other way around newfag.
>>
its helped me build great shoulders and traps. now i just got to stop being a fat shit and cut
>>
>>56240279
>strengthlifting
Go back to your Rippetoe cult
>>
>>56238813
yes, because its one of the big 5, once a week on a 4day split
>>
>>56238813
hands down favorite lift. 190lb 1rm. think to yourself what cavemen did to attract girl: lift heaviest rock over head
>>
>>56238813
Does it stunt growth like some fags say it does?
>>
>>56240545
>Yennefer of Vengerberg
Patrician taste, anon.
>>
>>56240031
Who said you have to do it 1:1 with the bench?
You can always treat it as an accessory and do it less often.
>>
>>56240251
>bend your knees
No. Flex your glutes, quads and abs
>>
>>56240273
You suck in your stomach and brace, holding that position so you keep your spine neutral
>>
>>56242570
>You suck in your stomach and brace
No you don't you. Flex your abs outwards. Sucking your stomach in is some kind of bullshit 80s football coach myth
>>
I like the standing OHP, but it can be replaced with high incline sitting overhead press for more pec growth and bench carryover
>>
Exercise for pussies who can't into handstand push-ups.
>>
>>56242668
I can do about 20 at 190lb but I also ohp
>>
>>56238813
Good exercise for strong, healthy shoulders.
Not very important to do otherwise, e.g. if you compete in powerlifting.
>>
>>56238821
Powerlifter hahahaaaahahahaha powerlifting = faggotry
