I've always thought Cartier has the ugliest watches I've ever seen. That meme roman numeral dial is terrible. JLC Reverso does rectangular watches right.

Square/rectangular watches do not feel the same on the wrist as round watches and some people find them uncomfortable. But apart from that, yeah, it's a great watch. It's actually quite versatile and dresses down pretty easily. It's not a pure dress watch like a gold Cartier Tank or Calatrava. It's very thin and light. Any nice watches with high versatility?Want to clear my current collection and have just two
>>17538383The steel Reverso is one. Most of JLC's Master Control line is actually pretty versatile, in fact. Some of the Cartier sports watches like the Santos or Pasha go with everything. The Datejust is about the most versatile watch ever. If you've got that Reverso then a good pairing with it would be a slimmer sports watch like maybe the Zenith Chronomaster Original.
>>17538383I think everything in that "classy sports watch" category is very versatile. like the basic Soister Perpetual or half of Grand Soiko's catalogue, these basically never look out of place
>>17538394Daydate's a good option, thanksI do prefer dressy watches and that seems like a nice sportier one, as opposed to the Reverso being more dressy. I might get pic related instead of the Reverso
>>17538398Going to wait for a price drop first
>>17537378i agree with this image but I wonder where the cutoff line is where someone say that from this price tag on you cant reasonably claim to pay more for increased manufacturing quality, superior design or materials and are simply paying for brand name to flexi'd say its in the low to mid four figures
>>17537971Just like ur ms
>>17538402Price of luxury goods never drop.
>>17538415I think he meant used
>>17538408The whole point is that the cutoff line is entirely arbitrary. The idea of paying more for brand name to flex doesn't hold completely water because at some point manufacturing quality is superseded by engineering costs or handcrafting. Sure, there's a lot of brand name marketing stuff that goes into price, but when you're paying for a Sarpaneva or something, you're buying the hand-craft, not the industrialization. To your point, though, yes, there are people who ignore everything else but price and brand name in order to flex. The dollar value cutoff point for that is dependent on the forum. On the high-end subforums on Watchuseek or something, it's going to be in the six figures (and probably multiple pieces). Here, it's probably about 5,000 USD.
>>17538430Prices outside of retarded fashion bullshit reflect quality and demand. A rolex costs more and is nicer than a seiko a Vacheron is nicer still and the low volume independent stuff is even nicer.

How is amazon.co.jp? Thinking of buying a Seiko as my first watch but they're expensive in my country(India). Are there any other good international sellers?
>>17538434what even is quality? something very different from demand / supply I think. and the latter has much more bearing on the price, which is why some ugly limited edition Rolex can cost much more than watches with superior finishing and more artisanal production
>>17538463not sure what your definition of cheap as shit is, but there are some Seiko 5s that pull off this aesthetic well for around 100-150$the SNK355 and SNKL41 are my favorites from the line. I prefer the latter a bit because the hands look more classically Seikoish like a SARB or something
>>17536877Based fellow Reverso enjoyer
>>17538487>what even is quality? That is, unfortunately, pretty subjective and also inextricably tied to price. As an example, "Finishing" is a fun buzzword used around here, but it means different things depending on the method used and the degree of industrialization.Rolex's finishing is entirely automated. No human touches most watches, the only assembly job done by hand at Rolex is gem setter (not movement jewels, but for the diamond dials and bezels, etc). Rolex's finishing is great and generally flawless.Compare that to a HH/Independent brand. The finishing is done by hand. It's more intricate but there will be flaws, a missed spot here or there in a bridge's anglage, or perlage not perfectly spaced. The HH's finishing is more ambitious and definitely more artful, but it's not perfect. The Rolex's is perfect, but also completely anonymous unless some flaw mistakenly made it through final QC.

>>17538528Nomos is quite popular, unfortunately, despite /wt/'s malding-level hatred of the brand. If you don't like their styling (I, personally, don't care for it either) then nothing can be done on that front, but from a technical perspective, ignoring the subjective things, it's everything that /wt/ claims to want.*>independent>in-house>automatic>thin>good water resistance>not oversized*what /wt/ really wants is to be able to flex on poors.

>>17537431might piss off people that are trying to "preserve the authenticity" of a cheap mass produced watch but i installed an NH36 on mine after seeing others do it.
>>17538563>I know, and it just makes me more mad that they have all of this going for them but they look like shit>so much potential wastedYou're not wrong, but I don't know what else they could do?Copy the Swiss style? For better or worse, this is what German watches look like. Not everyone wants the original Glashuetter Lange/GO/GUB-style. (The history of the German watch industry is tangled and fascinating.)They could try to do what the Japanese do and just put out a thousand chaotically over-styled watch designs per year and hope one of them is a hit with customers.I think a lot of the hatred also comes from the fact that "HOMOS" has wormed its way into /wt/'s collective brain and "I don't like their case design" is partially a way to justify ex post facto a hatred that is mostly irrational.
>>17538567Correct, an SNKL43 with a royal blue dial. Most lights other than sunlight it just looks like a super dark blue and almost black. Just took some fresh OC for you.
>>17538577to be fair I don't really hate most of their watches, it's mostly just the Orion that rubs me the wrong way. most of the others are just boring to me. the ones with some complication thrown in tend to look a bit better too, makes them look less basicthe one in the pic for example I like. but the damn orion... stop throwing it in my face, Teddy Bulbasaur, it's so ugly
>>17538541Post some rare cheap watches to flex on poors
>>17538583thanks anon, it looks nice. the white dial one also seems to have a subtle sunburst effect to it IRL, will be a fun little shitter to wear in the summer
>>17538594Same. Even if I don't like it, I respect the Tangente for being faithful to the historic 1930's design, like how JLC and Cartier keep making Reversos and Tanks in the classic style. I like the Club. I think it's a pretty neat-looking and very capable sports watch. The Ahoi is similarly cool-looking. Their attempts at higher end stuff like the Lux and Lambda are pretty unimpressive for the price, even if the movements themselves are excellent.
>the sneedmaster use aluminium bezel Fucking why?
>>17538598yeah the Lambda looks pretty nice, but at that price? no fucking way, I'd rather have a Glashutte Original or just save up for a Lange at that pointthe Club is alright, I like that it comes in all those funky colors. maybe they should go more into that, that would help them stand out more stylistically
>>17538597I wouldn't call it a shitter: its a good quality watch, accurate time, and most people will call it attractive. I have a Casio white face watch that I don't hate, and a White Parnis but for some reason I just don't like white watches anymore but realize I have so many black and dark blue watches too. Maybe one of these days I'll pick up a color other than white or 'dark'.
>>175386011. it's traditional, which is important to moonwatch buyers2. it (arguably) looks better. ceramic is often too shiny3. it keeps costs down and is easier to replace4. plenty of other chronos use ceramic bezels (even other Speedmasters), buy one of them if aluminum bothers you so much
>>17538598The club looks like dogshit in person unfortunately
>>17538614>The club looks like dogshit in person unfortunatelyDisagree. I have an AD near me so I've been able to see the entire range in person. It looks the same in person as it does in pictures. Some of the ones with the colored dials may look a little darker or brighter in natural light. The case finishing is all just simple high-polish, but it's well-done. No obvious waves or ripples. The dial printing is crisp. For the price, it's really well-executed. It's not going to be Lange quality, but it's only like 5% of the price. But you compare it to a 1,500 dollar Seiko and it's much, much better.
>>17538626I have too, that's why I'm telling you it looks like ass. The case looks like a child's toy. The crystal looks like it belongs on a much cheaper watch. Only the dial and hands look nice.I don't know what seiko you're comparing it to but a cheap grand seiko mogs the shit out of a club in terms of F&F.
Hey guys, can anyone recommended a cheap durable stainless steel watch, preferably with a black face? I don't need superior nippon quarity forded over 9000 times, I just want a cheap sturdy watch that the hands won't fall off of while using a rotohammer, like what happened with this Casio pos.
>>17538627Just post your Homos memes already. We know you want to. FWIW, they are funny.
>>17538627>The case looks like a child's toy. You must have had some interesting toys. Using a unified case and bezel is actually pretty interesting in terms of case construction when it comes to sports watches with 100m WR. It's something you usually see in dress watches.>The crystal looks like it belongs on a much cheaper watchHow? They don't use AR? Neither do Rolex or Cartier.

>>17538632I'm a raging SJW you retard, if anything homos and their gay agenda are selling points from my POV. Why the fuck would I go to a watch store and ask to touch the gay watches if I wasn't pro gay? So I could argue about it with a bunch of NEETs on 4chins?
>>17538634I'm not a big fan of rolex either. Never handled a cartier so I can't speak to that.I like the 100m. Like I said to the other anon, people don't generally go to the shop to finger fuck the merchandise because they hated how it looked on paper.

I'm thinking of giving up on autos and just taking the quartzpill. What's a good compact all-rounder HAQ in the vein of an Explorer? Looking at this Long Jeans since that one 9F Grand Seiko people like doesn't have any loom.
