If I don't have any acne or exzma problems whatsover but want get on tret purely for anti-aging, am I still going to purge? If so what sort of timeframe is it likely to last for?

Starting with 0.025% btw.
>>
>>17533994
you're going to shed dead skin and it will be noticeable so always use tret at night and always follow it up with a heavy moisturizer like cerave. my "purge" lasted about a month
>>
>>17533994
what are you, a generic invalid?

My routine from the last thread.
Cleanser is the Round Lab Dokdo 1025 cleanser.
COSRX snail 96 mucin essence when I need the hydration.
Moisturizer is Laneige Cream Skin refiner.
Sunscreens are Beauty of Josen Relief Sun and Missha Soft Finish Sun Milk, which I use alternatingly.
Only active is Tretinoin .05%. And I'll use the Etude Soon Jung 2x Barrier Repair cream at nights after Tret.

>>17533994
I just started it and had no issue except one small spot of irritation (but no redness) and if you don't exfoliate semi-regularly the skin turnover is fast so you will be shedding like a snake. I just take a wet cloth in the shower and lightly scrub to break all the dead skin off and I'm fine. Tretinoin compound with a moisturizer and sunscreen during the day. Already seeing my finer lines disappear after a few weeks, hopefully my deep forehead line will alleviate a bit
>>

Is it ever worth it to go up till 0.1%? I started at 0.025% and over the last 3 months bumped up to 0.05%.

I want to start using sunscreen daily. Is it really worth paying twice as much for one of the fancy moisturising suncreens or is ordinary sunscreen like this okay for daily use? I don't want to look any more pale (I'm already very pale, hence why I use sunscreen) and I don't want to look shiny like a sheet of polished stainless steel. I'm a guy btw.

Is there any downsides to using retinoids?

https://youtu.be/Xxb6EIKpS3s
https://youtu.be/Vu7-FBgoZyY

Watched this guy's videos and want to start a proper skin routine (already have cerave cleanser/moisturizer). Basically all i need to add is retinoids and some form of sunscreen.

My friend took accutane (which is essentially concentrated retinoids) and it fucked his libido and he couldnt get a boner for 3 months. Are retinoids estrogenic at all?
>>
>>17534310
no it is not lol
>>17534306
vital proteins collagen peptides with vitamin c and hyaluronic acid. it's actually insane how great this shit is but its expensive and ideally you want take it twice a day so it will go fast
>>
>>17534967
>are retinoids estrogenic
no but the downsides are that our skin becomes extremely photosensitive so if you just use tret and go outside all willy-nilly than you're going to do more damage to your skin in the long run. tret at night, twice a week max, and use sunscreen all the time
>>
>>17534959
A quality sunscreen is probably the most important out of all your other skincare products. I have never had acne ever. But once when I was visiting a cousin and we were to go surfing together, I used some of his sunscreen and in a few hours my face was red and I had acne on my cheeks out of nowhere. Fuck that shit, took a week to completely go back to normal.
>>
>>17534959
I use the one from Beauty of Joseon. Not that expensive, but super hydrating and pretty cheap. It contains niacinamide though, i don't know if you r skin likes that
>>
>>17533994

Will this clear up psoriasis?
>>
Anyone know what I should use for picrel? I was thinking about using azelaic acid.
>>
>>17535656
Whoops
>>
>>17535393
Yes, it is. HA is good for skin products that go on your actual skin but eating it doesn't do anything. And free form collagen is just protein with extra steps. You can get the same thing from eating meat or drinking chicken broth and it's probably better for you. Your digestive system is dismantling it into aminos before it reaches your skin one way or another. Chugging collagen isn't going to make it migrate into your skin by osmosis that isn't how any of this shit works.

If you want to waste money it's your money just don't spread this misinformation.
>>
>>17535659
>>17535656
When in doubt the answer is always tret
>>
>>17535669
Should I start with 0.025 like OP? When do I increase concentration?
>>
>>17535686
You should only start with .025 yes. Plenty of people have written this up already but you only really need to increase concentration if you've reached 7x a week nightly treatments of .025 and been doing that for a few months with no unmanageable peeling/dryness/irritation. If you[re ordering online I'd just get like 6 tubes of .025 and by the 4th tube you'll probably know where things are headed. My guess is you'll eventually want to move up in strength for vanity reasons and not because your acne needs it.
>>
>>17535716
>if you've reached 7x a week nightly treatments of .025 and been doing that for a few months with no unmanageable peeling/dryness/irritation and the acne is still happening
fixed for clarity. I haven't had a pimple in years and I'm only on 0.025 but mine was never as bad as yours

people talk about legalizing weed, how about legalizing not having acne without going to the derm every 2 months
>>
>>17535659
Try curology. It's an easy way to try out a bunch of different things without having to deal with seeing a doctor.
Once you find out what works, you can cancel and get it yourself elsewhere.
>>
>>17535885
Same plus the dead skin would bunch up on my face while I apply other products. Had to scrub it away with a dry towel which would cause more dead skin to shed lmao. The purge period was insane but happy with the results.

How long you been at it with tret? Were you targeting a specific area on your face for acne or was it for general anti aging?
>>
I've been on 0.05% tret for about a month and its done jack shit, I've been peeling minimally, as in the day after its gone. I've been using it for acne, how long until I get skin like a babys ass?
>>
>>17536692

Just buy Japanese sunscreen. Its insanely better then American sunscreen. You can get a decent sized bottle of skin aqua uv moisture gel for $15 on Amazon. I would still probably wear a light moisturizer under it but if you have greasy skin you probably don't need one.

Just finshed epruis/isotrentonin aka oral retinoid a week ago. Looking online it says to use sunscreen with the treatment however the derm never mentioned this so I didn't use it and my face seems to be fine.
My current routine is just cleanser with a blue neutogena mositourizer once a day before bed
Do I need to exfoliate if im shaving every other day?
Would something like the odinary buffet show visiable imporvment or does it just slow aging?
I had a routine going because of the treatment that I want to continuie however I don't want to buy a bunch of shit that barely improves your skin
>>
>>17537539
Peptides are pretty decent, they will help fill in fine lines and wrinkles but the effects aren't permanent. Don't get buffet it feels nasty, get the ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA instead, if you don't notice any difference after a bottle you can drop it. Also wear fucking sunscreen, get some skin aqua uv gel on amazon, it's light and doesn't feel greasy or oilly at all. If you want to exfoliate the Neutrogena skin perfecting daily liquid exfoliant for dry skin works pretty well and is mild. You just splash some on your face and then put your moisturizer on over it, or you could get the ordinary 10% lactic acid and use that 2x a week. But if you use acid exfoliators you need to wear sunscreen
>>
>>17537559
>HA
Moistourizer states it has HA, can you have too much of it or does it not matter
>>
>>17537580
>can you have too much ha
It doesn't matter unless you are one of the very rare people who think it irritates your skin. Its in 2/3s of the stuff i use everyday and its not an issue.
>>
For me it's tretinoin, jap moisturizer and jap sunscreen

What sort of 'baseline' affordable skincare routine/products would be worth my time? I only moisturise right now. I don't like the idea of being a rampant consumer, but if there is only one or two things I should do, I'd do it.
>>
>>17538096
Wash your face with cerave foaming face wash if you have oily skin, or Neutrogena hydroboost fragrance free foaming gell facial cleansernif you have normal or dry skin. Get a bottle of aveno or vanicream facial moisturizer, or just a bottle of cerave daily moisturizing lotion and use that as moisturizer. Basically any decent moisturizer is fine, i would be looking for one that is cheap, doesn't feel heavy and is unscented, aveno sheer moisture unscented lotion would probably be another good one.

If you live in Europe laroche posay might be more available as a drug store skin brand. Just their cleanser for normal skin and their standard facial moisturizer are another solid choice.

Is there a template for skincare outside of the face?

>>
>>17538686
cerave the brand is in europe, but their best product (SA cream) is a bastardized version that uses urea and not SA

Wash your skin with dove bar in the shower, i prefer unscented. Dry off gently will towel untill you are still slightly damp, slather on thin layer of Aveeno Tone + Texture Daily Renewing Body Lotion everywhere except on your dick for mild exfoliation. If you have body acne use some salicylic acid face wash on it in the shower maybe put some cerave SA lotion on it after the shower. If you have keratosis pilaris rub amlactin lotion on it when you get out of the shower. If you have eczema wash with cleansing oil in the shower and slap cerave eczema lotion or whatever other eczema lotion on it afterwards.
Regular soap sucks it drys out your skin a lot, scrubbing with a towel is also bad for your skin, if you need to exfoliate rub gently with a washcloth in the shower.

If I still have acne at 21, should I still be waiting it out or should I do more about it? I've seen a (shitty) dermatologist and I'm on benzoyl peroxide (Onexton), but it only does so much. I think the next step up is Accutane, but that seems a bit extreme.

Ever since I started washing my face with a cleanser I started having dandruff on my eyebrows. I keep trying to specifically avoid that area but it's not that easy especially once I splash water on my face. Should I apply moisturizer over my eyebrows as well, or is there something else I can do? Shampoo them with anti-dandruff shampoo maybe?

I'm not a doctor but in browsing online derma telemedicine sites they're pushing hydroquinone for "private areas" which I assume means anal and genital bleaching

Does the hydrolized collagen in my daily spf do anything notably good for my skin or is it just there?
>>
>>17539591
Don't use that miracle toner and Paulus choice bha exfoliant on the same day, that would be a lot of BHA. They are basically overlapping products so use up the miracle toner and then start using the paulas choice. And please wear sunscreen when using chemical exfoliation. You can get a bottle of skin aqua uv super gel for $15 on ebay or Amazon and its super lightweight, you won't feel like you have anything on your face, nothing like the greasy stuff you put on as a kid when you went to the beach.

Radiant lite hyperpigmentation cream
Be careful start out 1x or 2x a week and increase slowly, stop if anything weird happens

Wash your eybrows when you cleanse your face don't try to avoid them. Also yeah put moisturizer on the skin under them. If that doesn't work try and find a milder cleanser and look for something unscented, its possibe the one you are using might be causing some minor skin irritation.
>>
>>17539869
It doesn't hurt, it probably results in some temporary hydration and plumping of the skin but it's hard to say if it does anything more.

thanks anon, i'm going to patch test the toner on another part of my body besides the face is there a generally agreed location?

currently i only put on lightweight korean sunscreen like joseon when i rarely go out after chems would you recommend i just put it on regardless (shits expensive)? i'm home most of the time with blackout curtains so no sunlight

any adapalenebros here? 1.5 months in so far, feels good
got into it instead of tret because i wanted to start out with something less likely to cause irritation
negligible side effects (i moisturize twice a day), though i once accidentally got it around the creases of the nose which caused huge flaking

I patch test on the inside of my forearm
Im supposed to tell you you have to wear sunscreen every day but its probably fine if you only put it on when you go out as long as you don't sit next to an old window with no uv filtering all day inside. Make sure to put it on at least 15 minutes before you go outside for maximum effectiveness.
>>
>>17539906
i'm full NEET shut in mode atm i feel like no sun for weeks has done wonders to my skin. other than missing out on vitamin d what's the downside for my skin?
>>
>>17539916
I throught adapalene was more harsh but maybe im misremembering. Any way if you are on .1% adapalene and its been going smoothly you should be totally fine switching to tret without major issues. Just don't go straight to .1% tret, start out at the lowest concentration and move up after a tube or two.
Or just stick with adapalene for a while, nothing wrong with it really except that tret can be stronger, iirc adapalene .1% is roughly equivalent to tret .025%
>>
>>17539934
No downsids, you should be wearing sunscreen every day when you go outside.
But consider talking a micronized vit d3 supplement so you don't get osteoporosis or something from vit d deficiency.

So do people in say Scotland (or other similar countries), where there’s just a few sunny days each year, have really good skin?
Doesn’t really seem like they do but on paper it seems like they should.
>>
>>17539971
No thry don't but that's more because of the rampant alcoholism and shitty genetics. Also your skin is still getting uva and uvb damage even if it's not bright and sunny out.

>misinformation
Tbh anon I have zero information about how this shit reacts in the body. The biology of consuming collagen is completely to me. All I know is I bought vital proteins collagen peptides, take it twice a day, and my hair is thicker, my nails are stronger and grow at an insane rate, and my skin is observably softer, more flush, and more plump than when I don't take it. Reviews for this shit all over the internet reveal very similar experiences to my own. It works.
>>
>>17539971
I go to Scotland pretty regularly and you can tell who takes care of their skin there. White people who actually take are of and protect their fair skin have the nicest skin in the world hands down

Is there significant uv exposure from indirect sunlight?
For instance I sit in a maintenance bay where the sun shines through a window in the evening and reflects off of the white floor.
I’m not getting hit by direct sun but I can certainly feel some light and heat coming from the reflection.
>>
>>17540230
It depends on the window and if it blocks UV and how reflective the floor is.
>>
>>17540260
Glass and plexiglas block UV-B rays but let UV-A through. Curtains or special window filters (unlikely anyone has them installed) help to block remaining UV-A rays.
>>17540230
Evening rays aren't as intense and heat comes via infrared rays which don't account for ageing. You're absolutely safe.

Why does my face get red and burn when using products after I shave? I use a fresh blade and have tried using different kind of products before and after the shave.

>>17541479
>wet shave is not an option
lol
Before shaving wash area with gentle cleanser, put on some aveno Calm + Restore Nourishing PHA Facial Exfoliator, leave it on for whatever the directions say, rinse it off. Then slap on a nice layer of Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel, shave with a decent quality fresh razorblade, the bic dual blades work fine, don't make excessive pasees, apply more shave gel if you need to.
Afterwards rinse clean again, optional, splash on a thin layer of some korean hydrating toner with cica in it like A'PIEU Madecassoside Fluid
Finally apply moisturizer to damp skin
>>
>>17541499
What products are you using? Aftee shaving your skin may be more sensitive or the products you apply may absorb more easily. Its possible something you are applying is causing some irritation. Avoid applying any alcohol or any fragranced products and consider changing your skincare routine so that say if you shave in the morning you apply the majority of your products at night or vice versa.

I went through this exact same thing. I had bad acne throughout my teens and it was killing my social life. I decided i wanted to go through with accutane. My derm started me at 20mg once per day, we did this for 3 months. The 4th month we did 40mg, and the last two months 60mg. It was the best medical decision i have ever made. Acne was gone after one week even at the lowest dosage. It hasn't come back after 9 years. The side effects were minimal(nose bleeds, dry skin, a couple light headaches) all went away after getting off the drug and haven't returned.

If you are at the point where your acne makes you feel like you cant truly live because of how ugly it is, in my opinion, go for it.
>>
>>17541622
If you still have any acne scarring a few sessions of micro needleling with a derm with make a massive improvement, judt don't diy it or get it done by some beauty shop.

Sorry if this ain't the place to ask, but can anyone recommend a good hand lotion? My hands get insanely dry in the morning for some reason, and I hate the idea of having old lady hands at like age 30.
>>
>>17543270
Had good luck with o'keefs working hands lately. They trick is that if you wash your hands frequently you want to reapply lotion while they are slightly damp, at least when it's practical to do so.
You can also get a tub of a thicker lotion, whatever you see at the drugstore and put a genrous application on at night before you go to bed. That helps a lot.
I find that just putting some lotion on my hands at night is enough keep them from getting dry and flaky.
If you wash your hands a lot or they are in really rough shape there is this stuff called gloves in a bottle that coats your skin in a thin layer of silicone that resists washing to some extent so they will stay protected.
>>
Are cleansers a meme? I splashed some warm water on my face in the morning today then wiped it off with a paper towel with light-moderate pressure. The paper towel physically removed all the oil easily. Skin felt the same as if I used my Cetaphil cleanser.

Throw in a matcha clay pore mask, propolis anti-inflammatory mask and then a 10-12% lactic acid peel once a week and it's amazing.

Pick a drugstore brand, laroche posay, cerave, aveno, Neutrogena hyroboost, whatever is easy to get where you go grocery shopping or whatever, buy face wash for normal skin, buy moisturizer for normal skin. Wash your face with face wash, put on moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp.
If you want to use a retinoid use a slightly heavier moisturizer like a regular bottle of body lotion. Wash face, put on pea sized amount of retinoid on damp skin, wait a minute or two, put on moisturizer. I suggest doing it at night but whenever you normally shower is fine.

You can also use an oil based (not oil free) cleanser before you use your face wash. You use it on a dry face rub it in then wash it off with water and the oil will get into your pores and dissolve the gunk, easy to get on Amazon just search oil cleanser and get whichever is cheap.

can creams with urea cause skin peeling?
>>
>>17544882
>Urea, also known as carbamide, is a keratolytic (peeling) agent used in some skin care products. Ingredients with keratolytic properties are used to soften and slough off the outer layer of dead skin cells.
So basically they can cause peeling because they help exfoliate old dead skin cells.
>>
>>17544882
>>17544923
Depends on the concentration. 5-10% urea is moisturizing. 20-30% is exfoliating and typically used for stubborn dead skin like heels and elbows. Don't use those on your face.
