I've got to say, this thing arrived earlier today and it's absolutely stunning in person. It looks nice in photos but they don't entirely do the surface finishing justice. I have absolutely no idea how Casio can make the base Oceanus models to the price they do. It's a real shame they're JDM only.

>>1709299215 bucks?! That's really decent.Thanks, anon!
>>17092367didn't know this was the big bulky ugly watch general
>>17092990People do tend to buy a large when they should get a medium. (And sometimes the interesting combinations are only available in larger case sizes.)I think in the example you posted, the guy was actually comparing sizes, rather than showing a wrist shot of his own watch. But regardless of the wearer, when comparing watch to watch, the Reverso is superior to the Tank.
>>17092990The LC tank wears a lot smaller because of the "lugs" being integrated the way they are, whereas JLC has more normal lugs. You need to size way, way, WAY down on a Reverso for it not to overtake your wrist unless you have pretty big wrists.
>>17092999We tried Piaget Altiplano general, but it got no replies.
>>17093000The bulk hurts. I have a small-ish sized wrist (~6.75in) and every Reverso except for a medium monoface felt like an unstable block of steel when I tried them on. It's just a really weird watch on the wrist that will just flat out not work for certain people depending on their wrist shape. I agree that the Reverso is a better watch but you can still get tanks that have JLC movements or Piaget ultra-thin movements. That's good shit.
>>17092997Yep. A great price. It's a nice size, not tiny like the terrorist watch, and not big and chunky. Lightweight. Strong, durable, and nice and clean looking. It's my fav casio.
>>17093012>you can still get tanks that have JLC movements or Piaget ultra-thin movements. That's good shit.I know you used to but I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. The Tank LC I used to have had an F. Piguet movement in it but it was from the late 70s.The only Cartier I can think of that uses a Piaget movement is the Drive Extra Flat which uses a 430P (manual wind, two-hand) which is also used in some Altiplano models.
>>17093012The new Reversos have a curved baseplate. The lugs don't jut straight out anymore and it has improved wearability immensely.
>>17092707I wish green on bracelet was an option
>>17093001
>>17093071You can always do it yourself. Buy two, swap the bracelet and strap, sell the one you don't want.
>>17092853Will this logic ever be defeated?
>>17092900>fuck off huge GMT hand>compass bezel
>>17093143>Will this logic ever be defeated? It's self-reinforcing, so no.
>>17093032>I know you used to but I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. It's a little confusing because of branding reasons I suppose, but pic related which I consider the best tank currently on offer uses an "8971 MC" movement, which is actually just a JLC 846 used in some Reversos.
>>17093158Lol, that is confusing indeed. In the old days, Cartier freely copped to using outside movements. Hell, they even boasted about how good the movements they sourced were. Now, everything has to be in-house, which means they simply lie about doing the thing that they've always done.
>>17093162It’s just standard Richemont obfuscation. I don’t know why they do it because a JLC movement is a selling point. They even do it with the Vacheron Fiftysix which has a movement based on…a Cartier 1904. When there are plants like ValFleurier churning out movements, distinctions like “in-house” lose all meaning unfortunately.
>>17093143It’s undefeatable, that’s why people still get so upset by it.
>>17093165There's also a lot of instances where the overlap is inevitable. All ALS's movements are made in Glashuette and all JLC's movements are made in Le Sentier, but for all the other brands (VC, Cartier, Panerai, IWC, Piaget, etc) they have their movements made to varying degrees by ValFleurier or each other. If it goes through ValFleurier, though, it will be made along a specific architecture that will be easily traceable.Piaget, for instance, makes their own movements, but also sources movements from JLC and Cartier via ValFleurier. Piaget then turns around and sends other movements to Cartier. Cartier makes some of their own movements but also gets some movements from ValFleurier. To mapit all out would require a lot of red string.
Is the B640WB /fa/ approved? or is it to faggy?
>>17093178How is it legal to say a watch has an in-house movement if it was designed, produced and potentially assembled and decorated by a totally different company? Am I going insane or does this shit make no sense?
>>1709316556's movement was used by cartier, but it wasn't developed for them. the vc is assembled, finished and regulated by them. AP even uses movements by JLC. 56 is a cool watch, btw its caught my eye before, i like sector dials

>>17093845I'd like it more without the cyclops but that's real nice either way.Mechanicals are nice but it's also cool to see companies try out different mechanisms.
>>17093856>It's also cool to see companies try out different mechanisms.Past tense. Those have been discontinued for a while now. At one point, quartz movements were hyped as the next frontier in luxury watches (So thin! So accurate! Batteries last years!) but once the Asians started making them for pennies, then mechanical movements went back to being king in the luxury segment.
>>17093858Yeah I'm aware unfortunately.Thing is there's more you can do than 'just' a quartz timepiece. I recently picked up an Oceanus that's basically just pretending to be a dumb watch. Time sync to BT or radio, auto hand alignment adjustment, independently driven hands that park the seconds hand to save battery in the dark and spring it back to perfect time when you pick it up again, all that stuff. The amount of under the hood cleverness going on reminds me of why I like mechanicals, it's that same feeling of wonder at the elegant execution of some complex under the hood sophistication to deliver something seamless. If Casio can do that for a few hundred with super nice finishing I'd love to see what crazy shit could be done going further in the real luxury bracket. A quartz watch doesn't have to be 'just' a quartz watch. But I think I'm off topic at this point anyway.
>>17093858Too bad really. In my opinion quartz with sweeping seconds hand like Bulova precisionist, GS spring drive, or one of the rare few others like those hand full of Casio's and Citizen's should have been the next step. Batteries have slowly become better and with solar or eco-drive I really can't see reduced battery life being such a huge drawback. Not to mention it's much easier and cheaper to add fancy looking complications and like >>17093858 said there's smart stuff you can do with quartz that can't be done on mechanical watches.
tried out pic related today, why did it look so much smaller than a 37mm military-style Seiko 5?
Are there any fitness/outdoors use case watches which aren’t Bluetooth smartwatches? Not sure if I’m being retarded trying to distance myself from smartwatches.
>>17093878I swear pic related looked more like a 39mm piece on my wrist and I don't have enough of an eye for proportions to understand why
>>17093878>why did it look so much smaller than a 37mm military-style Seiko 5?Because it's a smaller watch. It's got a 19mm bracelet and very short lug to lug length. It's also slightly smaller than 36mm diameter. Rolex just rounded up in their specs.
>>17093861>>17093866It is too bad, but it's kind of a moot point now since "no one needs a watch anymore". Of course, your phone can do anything that any watch can do. The watch is a luxury piece now and one of luxury's hallmarks is hand-craft.ALS is revered for what it is in large part because of the wonderful hand finishing of the case and movement. Does any ALS owner really care that much about a difference in accuracy of 3 sec/day vs 6 sec/day?
>>17093856i didn't like the cyclops at first either having worn it for over a year now i miss it when wearing a different watch. the legibility in general is extremely good which cam to me at least as a surprise given the gold hands on gold dial>>17093858and now the asians make mechanical movements for pennies
>>17093886>The watch is a luxury piece now and one of luxury's hallmarks is hand-craft.This is true but also kind of dumb given that machines are capable of much better precision. Just imagine watches with microscopic details on the dial, for instance it wouldn't be impossible to inscribe words that would only be seen as texture with the naked eye but could be read when putting it under a microscope. It's pointless sure, but I'd also call products with such small details luxury.
>>17093861>I'd love to see what crazy shit could be done going further in the real luxury brackeWell there is Grand Seikos 9F Series and Citizens a060 and 0100 movements.
>>17093896>and now the asians make mechanical movements for penniesThat's true, but along the lines of what >>17093886 said, it's the finishing that counts. Cranking out movements is easy. Taking the time to perfect them is harder.
>>17093029the real screws are nice too
I want a datejust.
>>17093882thanks
>>17093810>You can't talk about Omega or basically any other brand without the thread getting spammed with "Rolex cope"Yeah I wonder why
>>17093942Great set. I really liked the mid size version of that Seiko quartz, too bad they stopped making them.
>>17093955I have to say, from those pictures I prefer the dial on the Omega for the red/orange and beige/cream/champagne/silver or whatever you want to call them. The date on the bottom also creates more symmetry than on with the DJ having it on the right. The look of the case, bracelet, hands and indices still looks better on the OP imo, but still I can see someone who wants a date complication buying that red dial Seamaster over a DJ.
Thoughts on this watch?
>>17093988Can't afford a Nomos? Also, the subseconds is way too close to the center of the dial.
>>17093988>it's a Nomos with none of the redeeming qualitiesDon't.
>>17093996>>17093998>Nomos
>>17093955omega really fucked up the proportions on this one
>>17094016The dumbest thing was to switch from teak dial to sunburst dial.

>>17093996>Can't afford a Nomos?Fuck no.>Also, the subseconds is way too close to the center of the dial. You have a point there.>>17093998Ok I won't.>>17094000That pic alone is enough of a reason to not even want an homage watch, thanks anon.

>>17093988>time knife
>>17094136Messer also means measurer, the one who measures. So 'time measurer' or 'the one who measures time'.
can anyone ID this watch? first impression seiko 5 but not sure
>>17094149My first impression was a 5 also, but upon closer inspection you'll notice that the '5' isn't actually where it's supposed to be (under the Seiko logo) but on the bottom. It's not a 5 but it could be an LM, Lord Matic, so it could be this one.
Looking to buy a vintage Omega. Does anyone have any tips or guides on buying one without getting ripped off?I have my eye on a vintage Seamaster, but not sure what to look for.
>>17094161Probably this case but with a black dial. I'm almost certain it's a Lord Matic of some sort.
>>17092405You had a strap made for that nice watch and this is what you came up with? Fuck this place.
>>17094136Literally german transation of Chronometer
hey /wt/, is the invicta pro diver a good entry level choice?
>>17094171What decade is this from?I wouldn't buy it just because of the bracelet (it's molded) that screams 80/90s to me aka the worst period for Omega.IMO only 50s/60s Omega have SOVL, but they sell around 2 or 3k now.
>>17094211You can always get another strapDoes look kinda of that era, but it is still fairly timeless
So sugess now has an el primo homage. For a moment I thought that this watch would be the most desirable budget mechanical chrono, since it has a 12h totalizer for the chrono. I have never been more wrong, because sugess has added to this watch something I did not think is possible, they added a subdial that's even more useless than the 24h subdial. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the 12h subdial.
>>17094171Is that seller called Closer? If it is run away, not sure what the scam is but I think money laundering. Had a bad experience with him, check the reviews.
>>17094250Those saw blade minute marks are awful enough to pass on it
>>17094250>a subdial that's even more useless than the 24h subdialI'm still waiting for a 24-minute subdial...
>>17094209Is there a quartz movement that doesn't hold up to chronometer specifications?
>>17094279>Is there a quartz movement that doesn't hold up to chronometer specifications?Yes, plenty. You do realize that quartz and mechanical movements have different standards right?
>>17094285No I did not know that, interesting.
>>17094289Fair enough. The main difference between quartz and mechanical movements in terms of their accuracy is that mechanical movements are susceptible to rate changes based on position (face up, face down, crown up, crown down, and so forth) while quartz movements are susceptible to rate changes based on temperature. So quartz movements aren't tested in various positions, while mechanical movements don't need to be tested in as many temperatures. It goes without saying the standard for quartz is tighter than for mechanical. (+/- 15 sec/month vs -6/+4 sec/day, respectively)You may have heard the term "thermocompensated" before when talking about quartz movements. That is required for a quartz chronometer. Basically the movement checks the temperature and slows itself down or speeds itself up accordingly.
>>17092393I like it
This watch is so gorgeous it nearly makes me reconsider my aversion for wooden watches. Also, are Orient Bambinos pretty good? I've seen good reviews, and since I'm strapped for cash I might make it my next addition.
For me, personally, its R O L E X
>>17094250>the 12h subdialwhat movement is that even?
>>17094252>vintage watch>not getting ripped offpick one. if you want a cool vintage but not actually vintage Omega you can get them on aliexpress.
>>17094316The crown is too small, the date window frame is too thin and the indices look a bit cheap. At least the case is made of metal and not wood, so it's not actually a wooden watch. It's still a shitter though. I was eyeing their watches a few years ago, i liked the idea of a marble dial, but i decided to buy myself a Seiko and i'm glad i did so now.
>>17094326>got the tattoo>still only has an entry-level model.thanks for the laugh anon. where'd you find that gem?
>>17094345It's funny because that's what the poors do, they buy the cheapest shitter with the logo and turn it into a totem. Same poorfags will try and pimp out a base level Mercedes with decals and bullshit

>>17094362>the explorer is still the best looking rolex thoughDebatable. It's not as gaudy as the Yacht-master II or as boring as the Sub, though. That's for sure.
