Have you tried it? What's it like? I almost blind bought a bottle last year because it's a pain to get samples.

What is it close to from the rotation? never even heard of this guy and looks like a basement mixer. Last really independent solo thing I tried was rogue perfumery where all the samples ended up being disappointments.

Except it is filled with exactly that, what are you talking about? Did YOU read it? Who would buy this?

"Film Noir is a hidden gem, it smells like nothing else in recent memory and the warm, elegant drydown lingers for days on cloth or hair. Named for the luminous curling beauty of cigarette smoke in old black-and-white films where flirtation mixes with intrigue and everyone smoked constantly, it’s what cigarette smoke would smell like in an ideal world. Which is to say: it smells nothing like cigarettes. The central accord of Spanish lavender, neroli, tomar seed, rose, allspice, orris, honey, vanilla absolute, patchouli, Buddhawood, vetiver, oud, choya loban, tonka, civet (vegan) and oakmoss creates a lingering aura, a mysterious but soft presence that subtly envelops the wearer and creates an unmistakable dry-woody-vanilla-powdery trail that’s never heavy or unpleasant. The perfect morning-after fragrance, it’s wonderful to wake up to on a pillow or undershirt and never grows stale.

Film Noir is incredibly versatile, perfect for cold winter days but with fresh, light and dry-woody aspects that make it great for summer wear as well. It’s also highly unisexy and smells great on skin. On men it seems to project more of the woody-spicy character, whereas on women the sultry, blonde-woody, vanilla and subtly powdery-mossy aspects are accentuated. Performs particularly well when worn in hair."

What an amazing description where he compares it to cigarettes, but it doesn't at all, and says its for cold weather.... but hot too! Oh and it smells good on your skin and NOTHING else in recent memory is like it, WHOA. On men it projects differently then women... im sure, it has oakmoss! ... and vanilla.... cool. Fuck this idiot and his shitty cologne, and fuck you too you furry faggot shill

God I used to love Issey Miyake… Shame that it has been reformulated so hard that the fragrance is now a shadow of its former self. I used to wear the fuck out of that shit so hard. The Issey miyake of today is like snorting really bad speed and then you ask yourself… „am I high now?“. The origonal was high quality speed, it was a punch in the face of astringent freshness. POWER!!!

I’m considering getting a bottle of Molecular 01 to layer Issey miyake.. I would give anything for a „Vintage bottle“ of that good shit for those nostalgic vibes.

What's the best way to apply frags that don't have a spray top? I feel like just dabbing it on my wrist and smearing it against my neck doesn't give proper coverage.

Also, tried out the D&G light blue forever yesterday. I was pretty impressed with the performance, even though the grapefruit note doesn't last long.
>>
>>17090605
Never smear fragrances, always dab. If it has a restrictor type element in the bottle opening, splash it on your neck like you would apply hot sauce to food. If there is no restrictor and it would all cone out if you tried splashing like that, this is non ideal and I would suggest getting some empty spray bottles off Amazon and pour it into one of those.

>>
>>17090704
They’re not good for dates. Shower, shave, wear nice clean clothes, and brush your teeth for dates. Go light on the trigger of your fragrance. Wear what you like to smell and what you want to convey as your personal style. Iris smells like lipstick and gay, it’s like wearing a pink shirt. If that’s what you want to convey and enjoy smelling, wear it.

>Would it be appropriate for work
no one's going to hate you if you wear these to work. many people just like something more sensual in the evenings and more fresh and clean for work, as a sort of handy olphactory metaphor to convey an image of themselves
but realistically you can wear these anywhere. just maybe not in super high heat

>Is Ambra Aurea worth the price tag?
ambra aurea is probably still my favourite in my collection together with Jubi XXV. if you are a fan of ambers (and myrrh), it's 100% worth the price. however, there are good alternatives (ambre precioux by MPeG, vento nel vento by 1920) that come close for a smaller price

>Or anything from Profumum for that matter.
sure, as long as you have no problem with extrait concentration and linear frags -- acqua e zucccero, sorriso, acqua viva and acqua di sale are all great, linear fragrances
>>
>>17090949
A bit one dimensional, but if you like the smell they're kind of worth it because they use very high oil concentration, it's basically extrait de parfum. Compare it to other brands making extrait flankers and selling them for like $400+.

As for ambra aurea, many will put it in their top lists of greatest ambers.

I like it. It's not something I wear all that often. A nice change from the usual. I wish some of that opening sweetness stuck around the entire time. It's gone after about an hour. Then shifts to dry smokey leather for the rest of the day.
The smoke from a charcoal grill and a leather boot shop is how I'd describe it.

If you decide to get it, look for the 'gift set'. Bought one recently for less than the cost of a 50ml on its own.

>>
So I’m early in my fragrance journey and I made the mistake of buying alot of cheapies on Amazon. This Chanel de Bleu clone smells the worst. I got this because Jeremy fucking loves Chanel de Bleu and if he likes it, it must be good. Yeah I’m retarded…

Right so… this clone smells very familiar in a bad way, it smells like axe deodriant/shower gel on steroids. I feel like it’s something that a 16 year old/poor/uneducated person would wear… I can imagine that this clones captures the essence of Chanel de Bleur and that it also smells like lynx shower gel. This smells like the colour dark blue… not in a good way.

Right so, could it be the case that a lot I’d designer fragrances have this “manly lynx” smell? I could imagine that this is the case because most bros have really bad taste. I hate the smell of typical mens shower gel/deodorant.

Why would you wear a fragrance that smells like axe? I kind of understand guys like this kind of manly smell. But I can’t fathom any woman finding it good..

I don’t want to smell like something that reminds me of axe, I want to fragrances that smell interesting, like green… and I don’t leaves and shit. I mean the actual colour green..

I want to smell futuristic and metallic.

I want to smell like the inside of the handbag of a really expensive prostitute, like makeup and lipstick and shit…

Like why would you want to smell like axe? I thought that people get into fragrances because they don’t want to smell like axe…

Encre Noir is coming on Saturday and Armaf Club de nuit intense obviously,,.

I’m really looking forward to Encre Noir, maybe I won’t like it, but atleast it won’t remind me of a teenager/Highschool locker room…

Thank you for reading my autistic ramblings,
>>
>>17091876
>Why would you wear a fragrance that smells like axe?
It's kind of a trend, and those fragrances are considered "easy to wear" and are made to be sold en masse to people that are not really into fragrances and just want a "smell". For people that are more interested in the hobby they aren't that good because you know there is better stuff and you care about it if it makes sense. Also people that don't do this as a hobby haven't smelled a lot of things and probably don't have interest to do so, thus they stick with those easy to wear things. Hope it makes sense

you are retarded brother.
Also I'm pretty sure you are wrong, as no one ever said this smells like axe before, and it's percieved as a good frag generally. Try it on a few times and it will probably grow on you.
Buying any frag before at least sampling all the frags in a parfumerie is a mistake. You first need to get a grasp on frags, then you can formulate your opinions and what you like and what not.

The OG cool water is a very good summer scent imo, the flankers are ass and smell like laundry detergent tho

nope, CW is just extremely overrated just on this thread. Last time I asked the woman (and she was in her fifties) at Ici Paris what she thought of CW and she said it's for old men lmao.
>>17092017
Never found the flankers, but the OG smells exactly like fresh laundry, there is no mistake, it's just huffing fresh laundry. And I don't want to smell like I'm wearing fresh laundry, I want to smell like I am wearing a fragrance.

Dunhill Fresh just came yesterday. If you like Fahrenheit you need to check it out, it's like if Fahrenheit was dressed up as a wetshaver fougere. I'm getting prominent mint, coumarin, lavender in the opening, as well as what seems like the ghost of Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte. The star though is that ozonic methyl octine carbonate from vintage Fahrenheit that makes its way here too, along with the heady vaporous florals from the original Fahrenheit. Chamomile and honeysuckle support the green ozonics in the heart. The burnt woods from the drydown of Fahrenheit have been cut out, replaced by a clean fougere base. This is an excellent soapy take on Fahrenheit, perfect for spring and summer. Not recommended if you don't like Fahrenheit though, the main Fahrenheit smell is here and it's extremely noticeable, smelling more like vintage Fahrenheit than the current stuff does.

Why the hate on Cool Water? It's what I wore exclusively for YEARS, and I must've received at least a hundred compliments on it. Everyone liked it as it wasn't stomping on your face offensive and it smelled clean. Women, men, family, friends, coworkers.

I don't hate it, I'm disappointed by it. It smells clean but only that, that's the problem. It would be great to spray into your wardrobe or on your underwears. Almost all blue frags smell like that. There are some good ones that smell a bit salty fresh but all the major ones have this shower gel vibe. Even the better ones like BdC Parfum. Disgusting shit but easy to do.
The reason is that you can’t fit a lot of feelings in a fragrance. You can do fun, you can do masculine, soft, sexy etc. but not all of those together.
So instead of thinking and working on it, they just churn out blue stuff because it smells like „fresh man“ and therefore offers a generic solution that most people will perceive as „doing the job“ and therefore it’ll sell.
That’s unironically why Aventus is so great. It’s masculine, fun, fresh and a bit soft and sexy at the same time without being a blue one or using other tricks. It’s great in itself.
That said, CDNIM is a disgusting cheap and fucked version of the real one. Smells shitty. At least do yourself the favour and order a small sample of the real one to compare.
Encre Noir is absolutely based though. A simple masterpiece for cheap.

Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L'Homme Bleu Électrique
>>
>>17092638

>>
>>17092643
Yes, you can wear it all year round at every occasion. It's just another aquatic freshie to me. My bottle might have gotten batchcucked by L'Oreal, but it really isn't anything but another designer frag.

>>17092648
Personally, I prefer LNDL BE, and I even get decent longevity out of it when I spray it on clothes.
>>
>>17092552
based on what you already have i'd go with an oriental/amber/spicy frag. something different. for (relatively) not-so-pricy options

>Spicebomb Extreme
if you can splash out a bit:
>Profumum Roma Ambra Aurea
>MFK Grand Soir
>>

Profumo.
>>
>>17092700
they would be heavy and not really suitable for summertime wear in a hot climate. but it's good to branch out. maybe just buy some samples for like $4 just to see if you even like those kinds of frags. other hot-weather viable options:
>chanel allure homme sport
>aqua di parma colonia (/assaluta/intensa)
>nishane hacivat ($$$)
>xerjoff 40 knots ($$$)
armaf makes some decent creed clones for like 10% of the cost
>club de nuit sillage (silver mountain water)
>club de nuit milestone (millesime imperial)
>club de nuit intense (aventus)
>>
>>17092721
Sure I might try them out but I'd be bummed to buy something I can only wear two months per year at most, you know? I'm already frustrated about The Dreamer because I really like it but it's just unwearable right now and at least until next november
Thanks again for the recs. I've heard of Armaf but an anon in the previous thread said the differences with the originals were jarring once you've smelled them. Personally I can definitely smell a difference between Cool Water and GIT even though they're often described as very similar, although I guess CW isn't a clone so it's not the same thing
>>
>>17092732
armaf is going to smell more synthetic. but you're comparing it to creed which is known for their photorealistic freshies. i have just about every creed you can think of and also have sillage and milestone. sure i can tell the difference... but for the price it's hard to beat
>>
>>17092736
Yeah I guess you're right. How's the performance? Creed itself is mediocre in that department in my limited experience
>>
>>17092657
>stormy, dark aquatic vibe
Should I get ADG Profumo before it's discontinued since everyone seems to cream themselves over it and it apparently fits the description?
>>
>>17092745
Not that guy but anyone who shits on Creed because of longevity/performance has never owned a single Creed fragrance. Instant giveaway.
You can spray a new batch of Aventus once and you’ll literally smell like it for days. And it almost doesn’t change at all.
I’ve had people tell me the whole room smells like it because some got on my jacket from spraying it two days prior. I’ve showered several times in between.
I’ve washed shirts that smelled like Creed after a 40 degree wash cycle.
That shit is insane.

I don't know, I'm not getting that from GIT. I don't spray it often but it doesn't have that kind of insane longevity. I remember Virgin Island Water lasting quite some time but it eventually became a skin scent, haven't tried it for a long time though.

>Calone or methylbenzodioxepinone, trade-named Calone 1951, also known in the industry as "watermelon ketone", was discovered by Pfizer in 1966. It is used to give the olfactory impression of a fresh seashore through the marine and ozone nuances. Calone is similar in structure to brown algae pheromones like ectocarpene and is also distantly related in structure to the benzodiazepine class of sedatives.
>Calone is an unusual chemical compound which has an intense "sea-breeze" note with slight floral and fruit overtones. It has been used as a scent component since the 1980s for its watery, fresh, ozone accords, and as a more dominant note in several perfumes of the marine trend, beginning in the 1990s. In 2014, Plummer et al. reported the synthesis and fragrance properties of several related aliphatic analogues

Interesting stuff, thanks for making me aware of its existence
It doesn't sound trashy, though
>>
>>17092861
It's use is limited nowadays by EU or ifra regs so it doesn't get used by the barrel like it used to.

>Kenzo Homme Eau de Toilette Intense
How similar is it to Kenzo PH?
Was calone better than calypsone scent-wise?
>>
>>17092889
It's different from the original, it's got a bunch of akigalawood in it which is a selective extraction from patchouli oil that is more abstract and peppery than a full raw patch oil note.
Calone was very popular and widely used for a long time, calypsone is a new captive (expensive) molecule so it doesn't have the same wide use. I would say they smell similar but different. With some small amount of the population witha certan gene (5% or less) think calypsone smells like rotten eggs.
Kenzo ph intense is probably better than the current kenzo ph formula but maybe not better than the vintage bottles. There is also now a new Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum that is more focused on the akigalawood and has less of the aquatic calypsone notes that people say has a similar vibe to bois imperial or Ganymede.

This morning I applied two sprays of molecule 01 on my neck, and one on the back of the neck.
It's weird. Sometimes I get a whiff of a woody smell that reminds me of something I can't put a name on, but the rest of the time I smell nothing.
>>
>>17092700
Try get a sample of either. A couple of ml will last you a long time.

>is sundowner by tauer worth the price?
Don't blind buy expensive niche fragrances. But if you want to get samples I'd get that one and L'Air du Desert Marocain from Tauer.
When I first smelled sundowner I got childhood flashbacks from smelling my dad's Marlboro cigarette packages. The amber accord came through as it dried down. So if you like real tobacco it's pretty good.

A good start for exploring niche fragrances is to follow Luca Turin's guide and sample those given 4 and 5 stars.

Anything xerjoff is a meme.
You can get a bottle of good oud oil for $200. One swipe projects for 6 hours or more.

>What are your thoughts on, Heritage, Habit Rouge, L'Instant, and Vetiver extreme?
>heritage
Nice lavender opening and a nice Mysore sandalwood dry down (vintage bottles). Gives me relaxation and focus vibes. Good for winter and formal days
>habit rouge
Nice rose, vanilla, and funk. It has lots of transitions and never gets boring. Good for date nights with the wife.
>L’instant
Citrus opening, Cocoa and dark floral mids, and sandalwood dry down. Similar vibes to heritage but maybe more modern with the gourmand flare.
>Guerlain vetiver extreme
This is what I’m wearing today. It’s a modern take on vetiver without iso e with Guerlain quality. It has a incense dry down and a herbal opening. I bought 5 bottles of this because it’s discontinued and I can’t imagine any modern vetiver I’ll ever like more.

>>
>>17093646
If it's edp and extrait of the same fragrance, they'll likely have different notes. From what i heard, just changing concentration can have unpredictable changes to the smell, so they would need tweaking of the formula either way. So especially the designer brands use it as a flanker.

Not at all. It's slightly masculine, clean, linear
>>
>>17093640
I think the first one i linked where it says it has a sour bitter resinous note will give you the sort of medicinal disinfectant aspects you are looking for. You could also look at the hindi oils but those tend to trend more in to barnyard animalic notes over bitter medicinal ones.
>>
>>17093646
>what is the discernible difference between edp and extrait.
Definitionally an edp is a lower concentration of fragrance oils than an extrait. However in designer perfumes for example sauvage the difference is both the concentration of fragrance oils and they are faily different fragrances overall.
The biggest difference would probably be chanel no 5 where the extrait/pure parfum is made with an incredibly high amount of expensive natural ingredients while the other concentrations are almost wholely synthetic.

This is a lovely light green chypre. Reminds me of a lighter Etruscan Water, must be the jasmine and then fresh cut grass and hay. Opening, fresh like Jicky. I think I got whiffs of a light honey tobacco in the dry down reminiscent of Naxos, but obviously not as obnoxiously sweet. Summer in a bottle. For fans of Pour monsieur and the likes, although the oakmoss isn't that prominent which makes it fresh, less dated and a bit more unisex.

Disclosure. Sprayed on Bois Belize in the morning and sitting next to a cold fire pit that reeks, so that might influence my current impression.

Very forgettable clubbing fragrance. Seems well blended and smooth, I wouldn't say flat but a really gradual curve without a well-defined peak and no single note pops out. Extremely intimate after 10 mins on skin as well.

This arrived today. Holy shit I’m impressed. I really like this. This is what I want to smell like all the time. I understand that people don’t like this and say it smells like death. It’s nice feeling like you have an aura, a creepy polarising aura.

It is a nice well composed fragrance but it does run the risk of getting called dated. You will just have to see what happens, my wife loves all my old man fragrances.
I think you are removed enough from when people were originally wearing these fragrances that unless if just happened to be your gf's grandfather's Cologne she has probably never smelled it or anything like it before and won't have any kind of "old man" mental association with the smell.
